Who in hell would buy her lousy book? Except maybe the subjec of the book....

Falwell was a hate mongeing, gluttonous, and divisive false prophet.

Blogger tlkgram says that Falwell "loved people" but most intelligent and analytical people know that this is a lie. He only loved those people that agreed with his warped view of the Bible. He played God by speaking about Christians (and others) that he perceived were sinful, according to his interpretation of the Bible. Tlkgrams speaks about "those who pass judgment without knowing the man", an ironic comment, since this was the cornerstone trait of his ministry.

The widow Falwell must have run out of money and needs a new Mercedes and Rolex, so she has "done gone and wrote herself a lil ole book". Keep it simple for your mindless flock Mrs. Falwell; use lots of "purty Jesus pictures" and short one syllable words in short sentences. Your followers seem to need Spell Check to complete their protest signs at the abortion clinics before they detonate the bomb or assasinate innocent people.

I am a devoted and devout Christian on the board of my church, but I STILL can analyze the facts and misdeeds of the evil Rev. Falwell. I can think for myself, and even vote my conscience; not relying on the views of some lout in Virginia Beach with a limited view of the entire United States.

Some bloggers speak about Falwell's "intolerance" which must sound nicer to them than the word "hatred" which is EXACTLY what fueled the ministry of Falwell from day one.

Remember what Jesus said about the Pharisees. And His disdain for them. There must be a huge grease fire in hell...right about now.

This man is most assuradly burning in hell for all of the hateful things he did and said about gay people like myself. This man was an ignorant intollerant biased boar and I was quite happy to hear he moved on to hell. I am sure he is kept in good company with the likes of Hitler, Saddam and many other poor excuses for human beings with horrid thoughts and views they pushed on others, A tear was definitely NOT shed from me for his passing. Too bad he poisoned so many people to believe and preach the hateful things and messages and ignorant views he preached. If only we could get these idiots to not brainwash their kids as they were brainwashed to be hateful, then this world would really move toward change and tollerance.

Sad to hear so much hate spoken about truth. The bible is God breathed. Time has proven that. This world will only get worse. As in the days of Noah. The only people he was able to save was his only family from among the whole world. Though I didn't see eye to eye on some things he said I do call him my brother in Christ.

      • Posted By: Publius IV @ 06/10/2008 11:44:54 PM

The bible has NOT been the Word of God for centuries now, since Constantine and his team edited out this part and that part, and friars and monks edited or changed parts hey wanted to (because the changes supported their agendae) "Misspellings" and ink smudges have been known to change passage/verse meanings. You bible is no longer any value -- no matter what you believe. You have a constitutional guarantee to believe what you want to, but you do NOT have a constitutional guarantee to force your religion down the throats of other people. 50% of straight marriages fall into divorce in the first marriage, 60% in the second marriage. It must be so easy to blame goys for everything rather than try to fix the failures of straight marriages. I must admit that there was a better feeling of unity and tolerance and yes even love after 9/11, until this topics preacher blamed everything bad thing on gays and other groups, and then we were right back where his political allies wanted the country to be -- fragmented and hating each other. Preachers and politicians are not successful if people work together (like Jesus and his apostles), but the politicians nd religionists ARE successful when America's flocks of sheep are bleating the pablum of religious intolerance and dogma and political cliches.

If only we could get gay's like yourself to keep quiet about your relationships ! But no I have to hear your complaints, gay rights, how steve and bill should be able to raise kids just like steve and amy should, etc. BLAH, BLAH, BLAH. Gay guys even have their own talk and walk. Gay is sinning and I pray that you and all other gays can get these demons out of you that control this lifestyle for you. I dont hate the person, just the sin.

      • Posted By: dtvk100506 @ 06/10/2008 10:34:06 PM

you know the bible says these things will be excepted in the last times. god hates being homosexual and abortion etc. people want to do what they want whan they want so unless the devil gets out of their life they will find the truth out one day at judgement. and when they stand there they will remember what was said on this message board. we need more people to stand up for gods right and maybe the world would be better off.

You just proved all our points as to the type of pathetic excuse for a human being Falwell was. You make clear just the type of followers he had. Some of us gays and lesbians have our own "walk" and "talk", others don't.....so what.....people in the south have their own talk, as do other areas. Idiot.

      • Posted By: dog lover @ 06/10/2008 10:16:23 PM

although I'm not gay myself you should be ashamed of your self you miserable pig. You know that saying what goes around comes around? If I were you, I would watch ny back. I hope very soon, in fact as soon as possible , you end up rotting in hell, you pathetic excuse for a human being..Start learning how to be tolerant, although in your case, that won't ever happen will it?

I think a right thinking American that understands what the nation is standing on will think twice about what Dr Jerry Falwell readily pronounced. America is more than Americans and that is why taking caution of what is been produced there is very important. What is happening right now like bringing of the family institution, relegation of prayer etc. is simply off the important principles that brought America to the world's leadership status. Now, everything is eroding away. You can see the unpopularity of America even on CNN...South Korea, Japan, South America and the list keeps expanding. The question that needs to be answered are were some of these things highly pronounced when America started at least the first 300 years of its existence when her grace, power and influence burgeoned. America needs to strongly reconsider before it is yet too too late!

  • Posted By: williamportor @ 06/11/2008 12:41:08 AM

As a Christian, I am VERY much opposed to people like Falwell hinting and implying that GOD
is a Republican. The G O P uses the Holy Bible as a political tool, and because they do, I'm
    voting DEMOCRAT!!!!

Why dignify this drivel? If Mrs Falwell has a problem sleeping at night, she needs therapy - not to insult REAL Christians by "glorifying" her dead husband

  • Posted By: washchadblip @ 06/11/2008 12:37:36 AM

    I repeat:

Comment: For you Biblical literalists: Did God flood the Earth when Noah lived?

If so, were there pregnant women living on the Earth at that time?

    Did those women die?

    Is God therefore an abortionist?

Jesus said "I've not come to bring peace, but a sword." My friends, how can you not see that God is sparating the wheat from the chaff right now? Anyone who speaks the truth forthrightly and actually has the audacity to call sin sin in our society today is now the devil and the bad guy. We are in the middle of a huge culture war, which is merely an extension of the larger spiritual battle between good and evil that has been waged since the beginning of time. Jerry Falwell was a great man who spoke the truth. For whose of you out there who didn't like that, too bad. The truth is still the truth and you will find out one day when you stand before the throne of the Almighty, Holy God. You will see how truly wrong you were about Jerry Falwell and the religious right. God help our nation right now because so many are so blinded and cannot distinguish right from wrong, good from evil. The left is always saying, "you can't judge," yet they are truly the most judgmental of all. God bless Jerry Falwell and all that he stood for, and may he rest in peace. Shame on those of you who disparage him in the manner you have. It's time all of us Christians stood up and spoke the truth about our nation and its spiritual state. We've been silent far too long. Remember the quote, "the only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing." What a poiniant observation.

How can you be sure Jesus actually said those words? So many people have deleted and changed things in the books and scrolls collected into the bible. There have been thousands of changes to the biblical writings. When you stand before God, he will probably be disappointed that so many people who have the brains that God allowed to evolve into humans failed to use them to recognize the evils about which JESUS spoke when they have seen the PUBLICANS standing on the corners and in public places, thanking god that they are not like other people. JESUS was a rebel, openly against the religious complex, why else would Ciaiphas(high priest in Jerusalem temple) clearly and carefully plot the assassination of Jesus. If Jesus came again today, he would need an army of angels to protect himself from the right wing religionists who are making fortunes selling their version of Jesus (oops that should be Christianity not Jesus).

    • Posted By: doctort @ 06/11/2008 12:00:26 AM

As a Christian, the problem I see with evangelicals is that they have become the very thing that Jesus railed against, legalist, pharicees more worried with what other people are doing than staying on their own side of the street and dealing with their own sin. For your information, the battle between good and evil was the very first heresy of the church called manicheism. Mani taught that the world is in a constant battle between good and evil and the early church fathers soundly put it down because they believed that the only thing that existed was God period... Satin is a fabrication of the middle ages and Dante (who believced there were nine levels of hell). Jesus railed against a church heirarchy, priests, taking money to build buildings, and pharicees who thought they know it all. We were called to be lovers, of Christ and the world, not haters. Love the sinner, hate the sin. What does that mean??? Jesus welcomed all, his love was inclusive, not exclusive. He brought into himself people no one else wanted, expecially the poor, the disabled, alcoholics, tax collectors. Evalgelical Christianity and its right wing corporate leaders don't speak for me as a christian or for Christ. EVery major bible publishing company and record label is owned by secular congomerants. Mike Curb, a major EMI executive, brought into Word records just so there would be a christian presence in this label. Your major Christian stores and radio stations are owned by congomerants. The Christian subculture is no different than that of the world, lusting after the same things, that's why you support a party that so oviously is in the pocket of the corporations. And for all those who think America was established as a Christian country, you have not read the founding fathers or your history, Most of them were Masons, not Christians. And our constitution, which many of you think God wrote, does not even mention him for reasons Hamilton expressed quite often, to avoid the kind of denominationalism that had puritans killing quakers in Mass in the 16 and 1700's. But then, most evangelicals don't read their history, church or American and don't know this. For the church to survive it needs a reformation back to the simplicity of Christ's teachings. Mature Christians are leaving the church because they don't want to be a part of the hate mongering, the self-will run riot, and the spiritual pride and egotism that infects christianity today. The unsaved don't want to be a part of us because they see intolerance and hate. Frankly, I think the church would be better off if it went back into the homes, sold all the buildings, got rid of the priesthood and became the lay church it was when it starfted. Then we might see what real Christianity is all about.

Dr. Falwell? From what accredited College or University did Jerry Falwell actually attend?

Need a source? Falwell used the title of "doctor" from an honorary Doctor of Divinity from Tennessee Temple Theological Seminary (now known as Tennessee Baptist Seminary), an honorary Doctor of Letters from California Graduate School of Theology (an unaccredited institution), and an honorary Doctor of Laws from Central University (Seoul) in Seoul, Korea (an unaccredited institution).

    • Posted By: MauiKimo @ 06/10/2008 11:00:37 PM

Jerry graduated from Baptist Bible College, Springfield. It might have been unaccreditated, but it was a good college for what he wanted to study.

A lot of people have graduated from college and not been educated. Did Bill Gates ever graduate?

      • Posted By: Nins @ 06/10/2008 11:59:35 PM

Aloha, Kimo. How's the weather on Maui? Hot as blazes here in NYC. Sometimes I really miss Kula.

No disrespect to your beliefs, but for Falwell to call himself a "doctor" when he wasn't one is not ethical.

And the reason schools aren't accredited is because they are not very good, not able to keep up with accepted standards. Because of this they tend to get the students who are not able to gain admission to the better, accredited schools.

        Gary's point is valid.

Again, no disrespect to you. But MANY people think that Falwell was a charlatan and a political opportunist. As a person who follows Christ's teachings reagarding "Love they neighbor" and "Let he who has no sin cast the first stone" I can only agree with them. Falwell preached a gospel of hate.

        • Posted By: MauiKimo @ 06/11/2008 12:33:05 AM

Howzit Nins, unfortunately I am sufferingthe heat with you, only in VA. I too miss my home omn Maui, I lived in the Hailiailii area, below Makawo. Would love to talk story with you sometime. i wound up here in part because I was one of the first students from Hawaii to attend Jerry's college. Three fo us, all from the same church arrived at the same time.

As for accreditation, yes, many schools that are not accredited are not very good. there really are not any name schools that are not acredited. However, let us look at a few things in this case. One, I believe it was the late fifties when Jerry went to BBC, at that time acreditation was not such a big deal. Two, as a Bible college, BBC would not have sought acreditation from secular bodies, nor would those bodies have understood the college. Three, as a Bible College, BBC was held in very high esteem by those who were concerned about Biblical integrety.

As for Jerry using his Honorary Dr, a lot of people do, and Jerry would not deny that they were honorary. But let us consider what he did to earn them. Built a national media outlet for his ministry, very cutting edge for his time. Founded a church that runs in the tens of thousands and has ministries for alcholics, unwed moms, children, hundreds of misionaries, founded a school k through 12, founded a college (acredited) that has educated tens of thousands, been a catylist that brought thousands of people previously not involved in politics and got them involved. Sounds like a good lifes work to me.

      • Posted By: sprues1 @ 06/10/2008 11:07:22 PM

I'm a little confused, if it was a good college, for what he wanted to studym, why was it unaccredited

        • Posted By: MauiKimo @ 06/10/2008 11:33:09 PM

Not all colleges seek acreditation, nor can all afford it. As a Bible Colege BBC saw no reason for accreditation. Interesting to note, Jerry sought and gained acreditation of Liberty University at the earliest possible chance, while it was still Liberty Baptist College and had not yet built it's beautiful campus.

I have nothing against conservative Christians, except for the gullibility or corruption of many of their leaders.

Most conservative Christians are focussed on doing good by the benchmarks set out by their particular sect or church. This works just fine until they fail to question why.

Then they become nothing more than good natured, myopic sheep easily led by their (usually) charismatic leaders in directions that may not be in their own best interests.

Take voting Republican..every year, Republicans claim that they are religious, right wing conservatives. They promise to stop abortions, gay marriage, put prayer back into the schools, and uphold some impossible to define thing called "good Christian values".

Do people not realize that each group has it's own definition of "good Christian Values".
For some religions it's not drinking, for some it's the way you dress, for some it's not using birth control, or having an abortion. For others it's Ok for women to be ministers, for some it's not. Etc. Etc.

And the Republicans NEVER deliver for these good Christians, do they? I mean..NEVER.

George W. Bush has had 8 years with a republican controlled congress. He could have done whatever he wanted.

He did nothing, but grow richer, and lie us into a war that has killed thousands.

  • Posted By: Thinkforyourself84 @ 06/11/2008 12:29:39 AM

A real christian would not lump Graham and the others together - it shows a lack of knowledge about each person. The other comments show an intolerance for anything christian. Everyone demands that a christian show tolerance for others, but no one shows tolerance for the christian's beliefs. Falwell had his problems as do most people in positions of power and fame.

Agree or disagree, He spoke the truth with love in his heart. Many people know the Bible and can quote(condenm) people as they see fit. Faldwell was not his kind of person. He hosted a Promise Keepers convention a few years ago and spoke at same. I admired himj for his kindness, openness, and heart felt honesty. I'm sorry I don't have my glasses so I may have misspelled a few words.

But to potray the man that managed to make my hometown a blight in suck a positive light is utterly ridiculous. I live with the callous, judgmental and thoughtless legacy he created every day. Arrogance, greed and intolerance are far from the teachings of Jesus, but an apt description of the principles that run rampant within his organization.

Mithra, Dionysus, Horus?? Those religions are dead. Ancient stories from Egyptians, (who are mostly muslim now) long forgotten and Dionysus greek god of wine??
"crucified and rose from the dead after 3 days" only applies to Christ.
Christ died for athiests too they just need to find him. If science is your religion you just need to dig deeper....it only goes so far untill it reveals his power and existence.

  • Posted By: ArcticForce @ 06/11/2008 12:23:33 AM

He's dead, and the world is better off without him. He and his ilk of the "religious right" were more aptly called the "religious wrong". Good riddance! I have no sympathy for his widow's book; I am sure she is sad that her husband is dead...but that's a given. We don't need more glorifying of his self-righteousness. These kinds of people reap what they sow...to quote a thought from the Bible. Don't come crying to us and expect a lot of condolences; if she thinks that's harsh...well, let those who dish it out also take it!

  • Posted By: llziebell @ 06/11/2008 12:21:57 AM

I think we should "let sleeping dogs lie." Other than the Republican party itself, Jerry Farwell was one of the most destructive individuals to our country, our form of government, and our religious freedom to come along in a long time.
