Fed up Texan - I couldn't agree with you more. Once Graham, Schuller, Osteen and the rest of the Sons of Satan follow Falwell to the gates of Hell maybe America will become the respected leader and the beautiful country it was meant to be. I am a Canadian by the way and a proud Christian.

Falwell said he wants his ???people to be the most intolerant people in the world???

"I really believe that the Pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians, ... the ACLU, People For the American Way - all of them who have tried to secularize America - I point the finger in their face and say 'you helped this [terrorist attack] happen." Jerry Falwell
    -----
Falwell was an evil, hateful man.

I think the reason you guys have such strong feelings about an out spoken Godly man is that he was right & you know it. This is where you hate is born

George Washington would not pray in public, Thomas Jefferson wanted complete separation of Politics from Religion....and all these people you mention may be religious, but none of them are the Falwell Right Wing Nut cases.........I respect people who practice what they preach.....not the hateful garbage of the lunatic fringe.

For you Biblical literalists: Did God flood the Earth when Noah lived?

If so, were there pregnant women living on the Earth at that time?

    Did those women die?

    Is God therefore an abortionist?

The moral majority put these people in office that have sestemicaly robbed our economy now they need to fix it.

The Democrat party has systematically created a third world country inside of this country. That promotes paying people to have children out of wedlock, paying people not to work and on and on (secularism and humanism). This has also enslaved the very people that the party has told for more than 40 years that it would save. This enslavement and indoctrination has created several generations of people that are dependants that cannot think or do for themselves. The liberals try to base their entire belief system upon gray areas of what if and to whom can we blame societys problems on, when it is not the federal governments responsibility to fix these things in the first place. Taking some personal responsibility, living with Christian ethics and morals would change alot of things in this country for the better. However the fact remains that liberalism is not based on these ideals. Liberalism is based upon the idea that man is in control by his arrogance and pride and that he can fi\x everything on his own of which by the way we were never intended to be able to do. Jerry Fallwell was not perfect no one is and if there is anyone that thinks they are they are sadly mistakened. I find it very interesting that there are so many of the people that have made comments here about Jerry being hatefull when it seems to me that most of the people that are making comments are being hatefull as well? Doesnt it tell us in the Bible about the dangers of being hipocritical and spreading gossip. Oh but I am sorry most of you would not know that judging by what has been posted. I find it to be very true almost everyday that the liberals are the ones that are intolerant if it does not fit their belief system ( a system of double standards dont do as I do do as I say do). I am a member of a racially mixed church in Memphis Tenn ( Oh but that just cant be according to the major media outlets this is a racisist country) I sing in two different Christian bands.and what I see more and more is that we all need to take or focus off of self and focus on God because it is not our right to judge others at all, and to ;let God worry about others for that is his job.

No I don't believe the Moral Majority supported any liberals

Washington, Jefferson, HamiltonLincoln, Roosevelt, Truman, Kennedy, Reagan, Clinton, Obama, Martin Luther King, Winston Churchill, Margaret Thatcher, Tony Blair. All pathethic minds? All cooks? No respect for any of them?

Those weak-minded Christians. Our country and the world would be so much better off without them.

    • Posted By: joeybarney @ 06/11/2008 12:18:05 AM

      All kooks? i guess so.

    Fallwell was a monster.

I speaking my mind, therefore I have a backbone and should be admired.

    Fundies, send me your money!

What a great idea. Start a website! Get non-profit status. Become a demi-god!

The person who said that churches should have to pay taxes was right. It would curtail a lot of this nonsense.

      • Posted By: washchadblip @ 06/11/2008 12:17:42 AM

Yep, they should pay the moment they're political. Let's see what they value then: their "faith" or their things.

I think it is ironic that so many of these comments contain hate, but yet Dr. Falwell is frequently referred to as a hate monger. Dr. Falwell was a man, willing to speak out for what he thought was right. He was willing to take the heat. He didn't sit back waiting for someone else to confront issues. Many of the issues he spoke out against have been silently eating away at the foundation of our great Nation. Consider the issue of prayer being removed from our public schools. Look at the condition of our schools today. Is there a link? Look at the alcohol and drug problem today. It is destroying our youth. It has contributed to the increase in violent crime across our Nation. Look at the family situation in our Nation. Divorce is at an all time high. Let's face it, our own Government has contributed to some of our Nation's most serious problems. It is their lack of backbone to speak out in support of what is right. It's not the popular thing to do and for sure they might lose some important votes. And let's not forget about citizens like you and I. Why haven't we spoken out against these problems? It is easier to allow someone else to take the heat and then sit back and tear them apart. Dr. Falwell was a man of conviction and he was not afraid to stand up for what he believed in. We all want to continue enjoying the freedom we have been granted throughout the years and we want our children to grow up in the same free Nation that we have enjoyed, but there is a price for that freedom. During the past few decades our Nation's foundation has been weakened by our Goverment's unwillingness to stand firm on some of those basic Godly principles that our founding Fathers had established. Unfortunately today we are experiencing the negative results of this change. You can argue all you want, but there is a connection, and I admire the fact that Dr. Falwell was willing to take the stand he did against these changes. He did what you and I should have been doing all these years. We should have been shouting just as loud in defense of our family's best interest, for our children. We didn't but he did. And for that he was willing to pay the price. I consider it an honor to have graduated from Liberty University and I am glad that I have had the opportunity to see him in action. I believe he lived what he preached. If we want to continue enjoying freedom in our great Nation, I think you and I need to be praying that God has someone else to come forward, someone else who is willing to speak out for our Nation's best interest, someone who is willing to take the heat. America, wake up before it's too late! One day you may lose what you have been enjoying all these years. Then who are you going to blame?

What a terrible human being ??? her husband was a pig and she is living in an abyss of ignorance

  • Posted By: fed up Texan @ 06/11/2008 12:10:35 AM

What an achievement to take to the grave!!! Having created a cadre of slack-jawed, unintelligent, and under-educated hate mongers unable to think for themselves. They need a gluttonous, (check out the 7 deadly sins, widow Falwell) hatred-filled, and self-righteous demi-god to "lead" them? To hell, maybe?

The widow Falwell must need a new Mercedes and a Rolex by now, so she has "done gone and written herself a lil' ole book". Too bad most of Falwell's flock of mindless sheep won't be able to read and comprehend the words. They can barely spell the words on the protest signs at the abortion clinics before they plant the bombs and assasinate anyone who does not agree with their flawed take of Scripture.

Yep, Mrs. Falwell definitely should stick to lots of "purty Jesus pictures" and short one-syllable words and sentences. Falwell was one of the false prophets that the Bible warns about, so he should be burning right about now. What a grease fire that must create.

Thank Falwell's group for the current state of the United States economy in bloc-voting for Bush, based not on job-specific qualifications, but whether he was pro-life and a Christian. I go to church every Sunday, and I am on the church board, so I am not atheist;; just DAMNED analytical. I know a fake when I see one. And that fake is indeed Jerry Falwell;. a liar, bigot, hate-monger, and divisive blow-hard, Who in hell would buy this book? Except maybe the subject of the book.

    • Posted By: washchadblip @ 06/11/2008 12:14:47 AM

I like you, Texan. I too attend church and it's not a church that dedicates itself to electing a pro-war, pro-torture, pro-wealthy president. We feed the poor and clothe the homeless.

Comment: eltithian: Before calling me an idiot, why don't you READ all of my posts and rebutt every argument I make.
I was indoctrinated like you obviously are, being raised catholic and then turning to the baptist "faith" before I actually READ THE ENTIRE BIBLE and found all of the mistakes and myth and errors in it.

How can you possibly believe in a magic "sky god?
This is the 21st Century or haven't you caught up to it yet?

    Posted By: elithian @ 06/10/2008 23:51:50
Comment: Oh, by the way I do believe in a Great Almighty Sky God and I hope he keeps believing in me. As far as the bible goes, read it three times cover to cover and still not impressed but the sunrise eally gets me every time:P

Comment: I believe in Knowledge and I can recogniz the absence of it. Man can no more study atheism than he can study God. Life is an inexplanable joy that neither religeon or the lack of it explain. I know the crap you call research. It is ust as groundless as the religeons you complain about. Yes, I am indoctrinated, not by words but y experience. God bless my wonderful life and I am sorry you can't see the magic in the big blue sky because I see it very clearly and it is beautiful.

    • Posted By: betddragn @ 06/11/2008 12:12:53 AM

You just told on yourself! LOL That was short list. There are no mistakes in the BIBLE

    • Posted By: mnmanariesram @ 06/11/2008 12:09:37 AM

Elithian comes on here and chooses to imply that I am an idiot because I have actually read and researched the entire bible, the history of it and the mythical orgins of the cult of krishtianity while he himself admits he is not impressed by the bible, but yet still believes in a "sky god"!!!

Elithian simply takes his brains out of his head, and chooses to believe because he sees a "pretty sky".

Wow, talk about indoctrination and believing for purely emtional reasons and not any fact based ones!

Say hi to the tooth fairy too tonight, Elithian! :)

THE REASON THE RELIGIOUS RIGHT IS STRUGGLING IS BECAUSE PEOPLE HAVE BEEN NOTICING THAT IT DOES NOT WORK. IT IS A SCAM THAT ONLY BREEDS HATE AND INJUSTICE AND FRANKLY PEOPLE ARE TIRED OF BLAMING OTHERS FOR THE NATION'S ILLS. AND ALSO, THIS IS THE 21ST CENTURY, I THINK THAT WE NEED TO KEEP RELIGION TO OURSELVES.
I FRANKLY DON'T BELIEVE IN AN INVISIBLE MAN IN THE SKY BUT IF YOU ALL DO, THAT'S OK TOO.

This is to all the highly religious ones posting. Stay away from apples because the witch might have put a spell on them just like she did to snow white. Believe that? NO!

    • Posted By: cathy78 @ 06/11/2008 12:05:09 AM

I agree. I am a Catholic, but Catholics are party animals. We don't go to the extreme. We don't need to, because we know we are the only true religion. Jesus liked to turn water into wine, and Catholics like to party as well.

      • Posted By: rakrunr9 @ 06/11/2008 12:11:36 AM

seriously you keep on with this one TRUE religion. Youre on the same wavelength as falwel just a little nicer. btw there there are 33000 differant variations of religions in this world. That is a bold statement you hold so close.

It is time that we begin to see beyond the political jargon that has been thrown at us by anyone and everyone who wants to lead in this country. I too am a Christian. I too have sinned. I REFUSE to follow any "religious" leader who tries to control the political system. Hmmm where do I get my example? my Lord. He was tempted by all the worlds and he refused. He at one point, in talking about taxes, stated, "Render unto Caesar what is his." Do you think sin is unique to the U.S. or this time period? Christianity needs to get out of the pews and onto the streets. Jesus did. I pass no judgement it only belongs to God

    • Posted By: washchadblip @ 06/11/2008 12:11:02 AM

      Ah, a real Christian.

  • Posted By: tlkgrams @ 06/11/2008 12:10:31 AM

Perhaps people who didn't know Jerry Falwell could only see their intolerance of the issues he took to heart and not the man himself. Knowing him personally was to know a man who loved people, would give the shirt off his back to help the most needy, spoke out on issues that he felt were strategic to the country, loved God and his family. Those who pass judgment without knowing the man must feel a need to debase others to feel better about themselves. Every knee shall bow and tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. (Isaiah 45:23)

Before, I am accused of being an atheist, let me say, I bleieve in my God and think, he and I are ok. he has let me live to be 89, so, either he doen't want me around, or, he's satisfied, with, the way I'm doing things.
I'll find out before, too long.
I remember reading a magazine, called Analog and Science Fiction, back, in the mid 70's.
The Editor was man called John Campbell, with each edition, he woud write an editorial, on various things.
One that I remember and I quote, "No other endeavour , in the history of mankind, has had as much money and man hours expended on it and produced less, than, organized religion".
Perhaps, we should spend our Sundays at home, talking to God.

    • Posted By: MauiKimo @ 06/11/2008 12:00:59 AM

What list of failures did he recite?

In the name of Christ, people have been fed, clothed, educated, hospitalized, orphans and widows cared for. The gift of written language for over 400 people groups has been the mission of Wycliffe Bible Translators. Governments have been reformed, slavery outlawed, children adopted, housing built, agriculture improved and families and lives healed.

Where would we be without the Reformation, somewhat ironically, Martin Luther's actions freeing millions from what had become an oppressive and lost form of Cristianity gave birth to the renaissance, which eventually sought to disprove God. Even the Catholic church has commented on the benefits of Luther's action on itself.

True, men have used religion as an excuse for war, for slavery and oppression, but many if not more wars have been fought over land, treasure, and personal offense. And the gathering of gold has been the cause of slavery, child labor, etc more so than religion.

      • Posted By: sprues1 @ 06/11/2008 12:10:08 AM

Good enough, nothing wrong, with any of that. Commendable, so why do you need an organized church.
You can help any one you want to.
You can stay at home and do it, or you can go to a place, that needs help.
So, whey do we haven xxxx denominations, claiming to have the only true faith?

    • Posted By: elithian @ 06/10/2008 11:38:51 PM

I disagree, some of th art is really great as re the mosques, temple and cathedrals. Mother Theresa wasn't too bad either. Perhaps it is like everything else;balanced

Vote for Mc Cain? More blind following and not thinking from so-called conservatives. Disernment seems to be a very limited gift from God these days in the Replublcan world.
