You need to wake up or is this how you like your country run, because if it is I guess voting for McCain is your best bet to get 4 more yrs of GWB.

I would suspect that you don't have anyone fight that you care about fighting in this war because if you did you wouldn't be voting for McCain. I would guess that you are very weathly so you don't mind paying $4.00 for a gallon of gas. I would guess that you like see the rich not pay hardly any taxes while the average joe struggles to keep there home.

I feel sorry for you because this is not a country that I want to continue to see run in the ground any longer!!!!!

I am not wealthy, and I do have relatives fighting in the war. I don't like paying $4/gal for gas. However, I will not be mislead to think that those problems are all the fault of the current administration. On gasoline prices, for too long, both parties have not dealt with the problem. Part of the problem now is that the supply does not meet the demand. Democrats and environmentalists have blocked efforts to help with gasoline prices. On taxes, it is foolish economics to think that raising taxes helps anyone but government agencies and politicians. We need to realize that too much is paid in taxes and that our problems are NOT SOLVED by the government. Those who want higher taxes, or think we can soak the rich live in a Marxist dream. Visit the former Soviet Union if you want to see how the people were "helped" there.

Dennis, you and the Soviet Union, good grief, this is not the 40's - get over the "Red Scare" for hell's sake, we live in the 21st century now. I'm sorry, I'm trying to be respectful, but you are really out of your depth. You are now so blinded and fooled by those that you support (think about that statement dude) that you now believe somehow that Clinton is responsible for the gas prices we see now? Not the war, no no no, not price gouging are you kidding me, Exxonmobil would never! Seriously buddy, gas was $1.27/gal when bush took office, this is not rocket science. And people listen, Republicans have been doing this since Reagan put us into a recession. They say, no you can't judge the current administration based on the things they've done, (this is their argument) 'bill clinton benefited from Reagan's trickle down economics, we're only just now reaping the effects of it' (don't you people remember how the republicans said that once the budget was balanced and we started seeing surpluses?). Therefore, it stands to reason that bush didn't create all of these disasters, it's actually the 8 year after effects of Clinton's administration - you people LOL! So sick it ain't even funny...

        • Posted By: Dennis in Denver @ 06/12/2008 7:25:33 PM

I am not out of my league, nor are you. In a civil society, each is entitled to an opinion. I can respect your opinions, and hopefully you will do the same without using demeaning phrases, or poorly chosen language. Respect begins in the kind of language one uses when speaking to those whom you disagree with.

The point about referring to the Soviet Union is that those who want a centralized, socialstic government can look to past socialst governments for their success/failure. Those who dismiss past history are destined to repeat it.

I'm not blaming the Clintons for high gas prices-- you read far too much into people's comments. But, the high gas prices are not the fault of the current administration either. Democrats have/are contributing to the problem, too. For too long energy policy has either been based on maintaining the status quo, or with the notion we need to jettison existing fuel sources. What about a transitionary period. Those who hold an elitist position think we just suck it in and force everyone to transition, while they conveniently forget the high cost. A high cost that the poor, they CLAIM TO CARE ABOUT, can least afford to pay.

The problems we face today are not caused by one person or one leader. To suggest otherwise smacks of extreme partisanship or at its worst-- elitism that considers only one view as valid. .An elitism that can lead to authoritarianism. We've already seen this developing for at least 20 years in this country.

Dennis, I do respect your opinion, as I said, I am really trying to be respectful - and I have to try based on what you said - because it BURNS me up. The way people all around are trying to carry water for this administration, NOTHING will ever change. And you are right, if we don't learn from our history, we ARE destined to repeat it, which is why we should be investigating how this president fooled us into a war and how his vp are benefiting from the war profiteers. I digress, what you said just sounds like carrying water, passing the buck instead of putting the responsibility where it belongs. You are also correct, it is not one person or administration but it is the legacy that they set that CHANGES things, and like God said, a good tree bears fruit. A rotten tree cannot bear good fruit and vice versa. I judge a tree by its fruit and the positions you support have produced ROTTEN FRUIT! But I do apologize if you were offended by my tone or language. I care a lot about what is going on and I want NO cop outs or excuses for this administration or the next! thank you

I hate when Politicians took an advantage and manipulates on religious ground to gains his Politic Score.Trying to out be evangelicals as self-righteous, hypocritical, prudish, old school throwbacks? In any event, the media has been enjoying his barbeque sauce and I am sure he is a real swell guy, but he is made out to be some kind of statesman, just by virtue of his tenure in Washington, and that is simply false, as the coming weeks of the campaign will continue to expose..He is a hypocrite who 'decries influence-peddling by special interests' while stacking his campaign team with lobbyists who do business with ruthless dictators. This is a fact and is beginning to be known more and more by the general public as people increasingly obtain information online and step further away from traditional news sources.
America and his natural dominance elitist philosophy in adopting and advocating its American's Democratic values for the world to follows. This is very ambitious and expensive itself, sadly been used as a major tool for any American politicians manoeuvre to be President of United States.

For Instance China,How do they going to pressure China to accept the practice of American's Democratic principles, when it's heritage have been stretch for 3,000 years History.

Democracy shall never be enforce prematurely because of the cultural differences. In China used to be Dynastic rules, their own democratic principles,NEVER had a process of electing their Leaders by Head Counts, but by Head Chop.Check out the fate of Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 18 and 19). Take a look at Romans 1:22-32. Pretty sobering reading - if you are not too self-important and arrogant to think you've already got it all figured out and don't need the input of the Ancient of Days. Don't guess they teach Proverbs 1:7 at those Ivy League schools

I keep reading this stuff that he has NO experience. After 20 years of elected pubic service? Remember his experience has seen him vote for a gas tax before in Illinois only to vote against it when it came for renewal noting the intention did not work. What we want is sufficient experience and not experience that has left you indentured to what is wrong in Washinton.

Now the experience argument though false is at least a fair issue. There are totally wacko issues against this guy being addressed at http://my.barackobama.com/page/content/fightthesmearshome where he factually and completely addresses the rumors of whiteygate, maddrassasgate, muslimgate, and book distortion with proofs (for those who choose to hold on to such stuff).

Someone responded that he had no record of not strictly orthodox party lines. Here's three quick reent examples to the contrary:
    1. Spoke promptly against the gas tax. Democrats were friendly towards this a year ago.
    2. Proposed tax cuts for middle income folks (further cuts than the Bush cuts).
    3. Spoke against the Iraq war while up for election at a time in which it was popular nationwide and virtually every politician and yes democrats were not courageous enough to dissent or read the intelligence.

11 years elected public service, 8 local and 3 in the senate

      • Posted By: OH-IO for Obama @ 06/12/2008 7:31:23 PM

I guess working as a community organizer doesn't count as public service to you? What about working in a soup kitchen, or a VA hospital or the peace corp??? Not good enough for you?
And by the way, after being on the campaing trail now for 16 months, this is Barack's 4th year in the US Senate and yes he was a legislator in the State of Illinois legislature for 8 years, which gave him the experience and obviously the support from millions of Illini because they elected him to the US Senate even after he spoke out publically against the war at a time when people were being called "un-American" for not supporting this faux war. I say, he has the RIGHT kind of experience, working and living AMONG the people. On top of that, he's way ahead of most people in his vision for the future. Lastly, it will be difficult to make the changes we are talking about. To deem him the same as McCain b/c of Jim Johnson, when he has raised half of his quarter of a BILLION dollars from US not PACs and lobbyists, is just plain ridiculous. The part of the reason Jim Johnson was an unpaid vetter and volunteer is b/c Barack is keenly aware of his history but also respected his merits for the job.

Comment: Here is what I hear from almost every soccer mom and dad. Obama scares them. You don't spend 20 years in a church where they act like that and practice such hate and we are supposed to believe he never knew what was going on? Please, it doesn't pass the smell test. Just like his association with Rezko. Middle America, in my area, absolutely laughs at the man-crush the press has with Obama and frankly we've stopped watching your networks.

Well just as amazing, everybody that you seemingly polled, I polled too, and my gosh, they contradict everything you say....keep the word scare out your statement, and personalize like this, I am scared of Obama because he is Black, and if that is what you want to say, be a man or woman about it...don't throw the mom's and dad's in the middle of your own personal fear...of course when you blog, you can write anything you want to without substantiating whom you talked to, what city or state are you from if your living in the u.s. or out of the country.

I need perspective and supporting evidence of why you feel the way you do from I, not us or we....perhaps I would agree with your assesment with more meat, and less emotion...and I will be happy to join up in your cause....once you give me more things to chew on

I'm not afraid of Obama. I simply do not trust him. You were awfully quick to point the racial fear finger back at me. That's not it either, it's a matter of common sense. What we do know about the man is that he makes bad decisions on who he associates with. Take a look at the headlines over the past few days. He has now sidestepped the man he choose to vet his VEEP possibilites, hummmm.
And NO I'm not voting for McCain. I'm not sure what I'll do yet. But the process still has to go to the Democratic Convention, maybe there will be a miracle........

Hillary suspended and held onto her delegates for more than one reason. Should be a fun convention.
Maybe her war machine is busy doing their dumpster diving.
Too bad Pelozi wants to shut the military up and not talk about the good news in Iraq. The lefties want us to fail so bad...bunch of sickos.
The president doesn't set the gas prices. Neither do congress but they won't let us produce more of our own. More political posturing and to hell with us who have to pay for it.

Obama does not scare this "soccer mom". It annoys the hell out of me that you people think you can speak for an entire group that you know nothing about. Instead of focusing on what Obama or McCain will or will not do for our country, you continue to focus on topics that are non-issues. There is no issue with Rezko, if there were, the republican machine would have uncovered the details by now. Rev. Wright may not speak the way you like, but most of what he has said in those controversial sermons was true. He doesn't hate white people (I'm white), he is angry at our government for their actions against blacks and other minorities. While I love my country, we do have a lot to not be proud of, and we all know it. I have seen enough negative press about Obama and Pews Research did study that showed there were more negative hits on Obama than Hillary or McCain. All these pathetic excuses are indications that you have absolutely nothing of substance to hold against Obama except your own prejudices.

McCain is a HUGE opportunist. He's against something, then he's for it. He was against Bush's tax cuts, now he's for them and plans on increasing them - wonderful - keep spending money we don't have! Have you ever wondered how we are to pay for this war in Iraq??? There has NEVER been a war like this where taxes haven't been raised to pay for it. Get real.

McCain also was against occupying Iraq as he now wants to do. Look up his comments from just last year on this topic. He's ridiculous.

McCains healthcare plans will result in no more employment based health coverage AND it will do away with coverage for pre-existing conditions. If you have a pre-existing condition, you'll be placed in a separate healthcare pool - you know what that means? Just like car insurance, high risk means high rates. DO YOUR HOMEWORK AND STOP MAKING UP NONSENSE!

      1) You frighten easily
      2) You watch FOX TV

Fox (or "FIX" as we call it) tends to all those fears and keeps them nurtured. When you decide to grow up and think for yourself, the thinking world wi'll welcome you back.

P.S. By the way, did you see the latest on Fox? One of the female "broadcasters" su ggested that the good luck "fist-bump" that Michelle Obama gave to her husband when he won the nomination, might be a "TERRORIST message!" THAT ought to keep you fearful people going for awhile!

    • Posted By: Iamnotamused @ 06/12/2008 9:33:14 AM

Good question...unfortunately you can't throw a rock in Washington DC without hitting at least 5 people that used to work for them in some capacity. As a matter-of-fact you can't throw a rock and hit anyone in Washington DC that hasn't been involved in someone elses cabinet/administration that isn't older than dirt (sans the pages) but you get the point. ALL of DC is old and entrenched in their ways and while it may have worked for a while, old and entrenched is why we are where we are now. Bush didn't do this by himself...he had a LOT of help from his friends.

I couldn't help but laugh when, right after he got elected for his 2nd term, that people who had been with him in the first started jumping ship like rats. They had to have known that something was up and wasn't right. I about fell off the chair when Colin Powell AND his son quit!

On the contrary, the Johnson affair is important, as it says something about the candidates judgment and those with whom he associates. On that count, Obama is found wanting. He has a long-standing friendship with a racist pastor (Wright), a racist priest (Pfleger), a radical willing to use terrorist tactics (Ayers), an indicted financier (Rezko), and a man on the receiving end of financial favors (Johnson). You can bet that if Obama were a Republican that their would be much more said, and not an effort to "sweep it under the rug" by the Obama Robots.

    • Posted By: J.Richter @ 06/12/2008 5:35:12 PM

Same exact things can be said about MCain:
Freindship with a radical pastor (Rod Parsley), radical preacher (John Haggee). Both have been thrown under the bus.
Lobbyists all over his campaign - Five have resigned (so much for ranting about Obama's one). Charlie Black is still there after lobbying for foreign dictators.
Lobbyst form his economic team - Phil Gramm wrote the law for the current housing mess and benefited from it.
Himself has been censored for innapropriate practices with Keating 5 (compared to OBama whose ex acquaintance was the one involved - one that has not ben associated with him since 2005).

Does your complaint have equal opportunity or is it not intended to convey fair review?

  • Posted By: mcleodmn @ 06/12/2008 6:22:30 PM

I love particularly love the discussion over McCains VP. Does it really matter? McCain could have Jesus as a VP and he'd still lose in a landslide. At least 14 Republican members of Congress have refused to endorse or publicly support McCain for president, and more than a dozen others declined to answer whether they back the Arizona senator. Are you kidding me? Evangelicals hate him. Right wing pundits bash him. He is looked at as an old, boring version of George Bush except he has less party support and can't raise any money. Registered Republicans are leaving the party in droves. The Republican party is arranging the furniture on the titanic.

Now imagine the total antithesis of this situation. That is what is going on in the Democratic party...

Regardless of your party affiliation, to deny these facts is to deny reality.

Political racism is no different than racism that puts down people because of their ethnicity, racial or religious background. It's time to elevate the debate to a civil tone and stop putting down people because you don't happen to agree with their politics.

As I wonder if all Americans are aware that any individual that holds a position within our Goverment doesn't pay Social Security nor do they pay into Medicare. Therefore, the Goverment doesn't match 6.2% on Social Security nor do they match 1.45% on Medicare. As they speak of our economic struggles and the possibility that Social Security or Medicare will not be around in the coming future, no one has commented on why they have never contributed nor has their contributions been matched leaves a sour note on my mind. Believe me, if they were like every other American in the USA these Goverment benefits would not be in the shape it is today. I am finding it hard to vote for anyone at this point. It's not fair nor is there justice behind this type of policy they leave behind. They make more than anyone and yet, they are exempt from having these deductions made through payroll. With this in mind, who is our right candidate? None that I've seem have even commented on these issues and never will. Why? I realize that this comment is gear around this topic, but it is worth reading when we face the possiblity of losing what we considered part of our retirment and medical insurance when we reach this prime age, which is being move to an older age bracket. This is totally unfair and unconstitutional. I think as Americans we need to pull together and have them join the band wagon and pay what they are suppose to contribute. Then these benefits may be around for our children to come! Stand up Americans, don't let this continue! We are requried and so our the young people in this world. Even when they know it won't be around when they become eligible. Instead, they speak of Universal Health plans that will cover all Americans and yet they miss the most obvious and that is with their contributions these plans would be strong and viable.

What are YOU smoking? Everyone in the U.S. except for Railroad workers, pay into the Social Security and Medicare funds.
You must have it confused that if you are an American living overseas...you don't pay FEDERAL TAXES (this does NOT include SS and FICA) on monies made up to $75K. I know, I used to live overseas. However, this only applies if you work on the local economy.

The person who responded below me is right...check your facts and get them straight before you say it. It can ONLY make you look intelligent even if you really aren't

      • Posted By: jdin2003 @ 06/12/2008 6:03:08 PM

Public school teachers (and other public school employees) in Texas do not pay into Social Security. They pay into the Teachers Retirement System. They also pay FICA taxes (and of course, Fed. income tax).. The same is probably true for public school teachers in other states in which there are state-run teacher retirement plans.

I think Fineman is really a bitter hil supporter. Since Hilary dropped out, he's been nothing but negative and loosely attempting to create a controversy where there is none. I understand attempting to be "objective", but if that is really your purpose, why are we not talking about Bob Gramm in comparison to Obama's selection of Jim Johnson...? You say we know John McCain already, but we don't know Obama? How can you claim people already "know" John McCain when he's changed his answer on almost everything the last 2 weeks within hours of his own statements? Does he really believe tax cuts during war are irresponsible or a good idea? Is it the highest priority of our commander and chief to take care of our returning soldiers or not? One thing you can see from Barack in the year and a half that YOU and I have had a chance to get to know him is that he is consistent. Stories like this are you way of attempting to make him appear to be inconsistent, while John McCain is an experiment in hilarity with his hypocrises. But usually, I like your commentaries Fineman. Just thought you were unattached to either democratic candidate, but I think you're roots are showing this week...

That is also possible. I just hope they do what her most of her TRUE supporters have done so well - MOVE ON! We are in the general now. I think the people who keep that story alive have an ulterior motive as sick as Rush Limbaugh's was...but that's just my opinion

Attention Hillary supporters: I am an Obama supporter and I don't belong to his race (either one). I urge you to understand that Obama supporters would never insult Hillary anymore. Reason is simple - everyone knows he needs your (Hillary supporters) support. Why would an Obama supporter decrease the chances of Obama getting elected by saying vitrious things about hillary? just think about that and then you will realize those who say bad things about hillary are actually McCain supporters who are warmongers and are filled with hatred towards humanity. Obama and Hillary supporters unite. Democrats all the way!!!!

The person that will ultimatly have the most influience on Obama is his wife, unfortunatly she has just recently become proud of the United States. A bit scary don't you think? I don't care to have someone like her, or her husband who will not place his hand over his heart in front of our flag represent either my country or myself. I came from a military family, my father fought in 3 wars to give them the freedom they have to be disrespectful. I suggest that the Obamas should do that on their own time and dime, not mine.

The flag was NOT in sight. It was the National Athem that was playing that he did not put his hand over his heart.

You can't be serious. Obama also has ties to lobbyists. Despite his sanctimonious claims to be "change", Obama is tied to all sorts of monied people. He is not the "patron saint" some claim he is.

When are these two clowns(McCain &Obama) going to address the real issues facing this country? What are their plans for the illegal immigration problem? What are they going to do about our out-of-date infastructure (roads & bridges)? What are they "really" going to do about Iraq (we'll be maintaining a force there for decades aka Germany & Japan)? What are they going to do about our educational system, (that is lagging behind the rest of the modern world)? Neither of these candates has really addressed any of these issues. So far they're all talk.............

    • Posted By: Dennis in Denver @ 06/12/2008 5:33:25 PM

Government is not the solution to our problems. The government that governs the least governs the best. For examples of what a meddlesome government can do to wreck things, look n further than to the former Soviet Union. Socialism, statism, whatever you want to call it fails to solve our problems. All that happens is that those in control (the politicians) strive to take more control over our lives.

      • Posted By: archmsu @ 06/12/2008 5:37:57 PM

I agree......but individuals can't build a highway system or a national power grid on our own.

        • Posted By: Dennis in Denver @ 06/12/2008 5:45:11 PM

True. It is a sad commentary that our political system has moved from a serious discussion of the issues and different approaches to "gotcha moments" and "diversionary attacks". The need is for government to address true needs such as you point out, without leaders who create crises in order to grab control over our lives (i.e., healthcare, etc.).

Typically Interestingly about Fineman, because it seems to me that "journalists" can be part some of the most elitist,authority-to-themselves characters.Perhaps thats the price of freedom speech of humanism pseudo.Question is,from where do they derive their gracious righteousness? Likely, it is from their own "conscience," which is hardly objective

Im wondering why American so blinded and prejudice when come to John Mcain,he's th leader of Republican Dog pack when they impreached bill Clinton of of the oval office for monica lewisky scandal but failed to see his own wives bigamy scandals. Now they even nominated him as President Of United, same scandal that involves bill Clinton...Typical Republican Feeds Style.
