my Jetta TDI gets close to 50 mpg around town...and have gotten over 60 mpg on conservative hwy trips (through the mountains). The hybrids get OK milage...but at the expense of the environment, due to the manufacture and disposal of the batteries....and on the hiway, when running only on gas, it's not so good.

PS a buddy scared a couple thiefs away from behind his shop.....in the morn we found a brass punch beside the truck

PPS next time the economy is good...get (AND READ) a book or two on how to not only survive, but prosper, during a downturn in the economy so you will be able to give yourself credit for doing well instead of blaming the government for your doing poorly!!!!

I would like to see what a chemist comes up with as to the actual amount of gasoline in a gallon of gas. MSDS showes it as .05%. So what are we actually paying for? MTBE 99.95% of the contents of a gallon of gas. Check it out for yourself.

I would like to see someone have a chemist anaslize a gallon of gas, according to a MSDS sheet it's only .05% gas and the rest is chemicles eg. MTBE. Check it out don't listen to me.

what the heck are you goin' on about mondo78? I'm sure that you can find a more appropriate place to whine than here. I know I would appreciate you sticking to the subject. But if you insist....poor baby, are you having a rough time? Are you having trouble paying for gas for your widdle SUV? Did you have to move into a smaller house? Go freakin wipe your nose and tell it to somebody that gives a crap. logical budgeting my ***, pay attention!

It is nice to see that some people still believe in the good government bs unfortunate as it may be. It is the American way to have and do things bigger and better that is driving us down. It is a consumption issue the caused a big problem with fuel prices but that is not the sole issue. You would also be IDIOTIC to think that our government wouldnt hesitate to capitalize on even the slightest fraction of a penny from the American people, Which has also played a big part in the escalated prices. As for the housing crisis, there are circumstances beyond our control that caused this. Primarily pointing to your GOOD GOVERNMENT!! Bought a house great, jobs good, awesome, wait CEO moves your job to Mexico, damn sorry about your job, gl with the new house... Only one example, but its not only about the lack a logical budgeting, *** happens to more people than the government wants you to believe and they pass it off as currupt lenders and bad judgement by the buyer!

Remington and Winchester are better than the locking cap and it also reduces the chances your neighbor will have the same problem next week!!

Unfortunately, Selahbrook is so right when it comes to our government! Our government could care less about its people. Why should they care if gas hits 5 or 10 dollars a gallon when they have millions sitting in their own personal accounts at the bank!!! It is sickening to think that our entire economy is going down the toilet while our government sits back and continues to laugh at us while standing in line at the bank to make yet another unearned deposit!

  • Posted By: selahbrook @ 06/15/2008 11:12:15 AM

Our government doesn't care what happens to us. Their pockets, mouths, and gas tanks aren't being emptied. Their children are being taken care of very well. Our past government officials AND future officials aren't worth the powder it would take to blow them to hell. We were once the strongest nation. Now the other nations are probly laughing at us. It's a terrible time when chldren can't go to school to learn because diesel is so high and the common citizen can't make it work to earn a living because they can't afford to drive. Good Grief!!!! I wish our officials would stop saying " how they would change things" and somebody do it.!!!!

It greatly appears that you are all not seeing what is really happening. While it is true that some of the comments about the oil companies and government and our over-reliance on oil are on point, they are not the major drivers of the current cost of gasoline. It is being drove up on the commedities and futures exchanges, which is coupled with the fact that the American dollar is very weak abroad. THAT is the true reason for gas prices being what they currently are.

  • Posted By: selahbrook @ 06/15/2008 11:05:34 AM

This is completely uncalled for!!! We are supposed to be the country of dreams and wealth. Now our government has our nation so ecnomically challenged that we are stealing gas from each other just to make a dollar. Our presidential candidates can say what they want to about how they will lower gas prices or stimulate our economy. They don't care about the citizens. They are all just cushioning their own pockets while we are all left to fend for ourselves and our children. Our govenrment is a huge let down and I don't see our future government doing any better.

I have a Toyota Camry Hybrid and I consistently get 40-42 MPG with a combination of city/hwy driving on a weekly basis. I have had the car for 18 months and the only time I get less that this is during the winter months, where my MPG average is still about 38.

It didn't even make your list.

Come steal my gas, please. My brother and I had somebody steal some diesel from an irrigation generator in an orange grove. So we put a bigger tank out as bait. Over the next month we got two different sets of thieves and knee capped them. We don't call 911.

One can only hope that in the process of drilling a hole in a tank, the thief causes a spark. I would gladly sacrifice my car to see a bar-b-qued thief.

The definition of guzzle is "to consume to excess", not steal. Thieves are stealing gas, but you have no way of knowing whether they are guzzling the gas after they steal it.
