Ya know, I own an SUV. Last August I bought a 2007 Nissan Xterra as I needed the space for my 2 children, my wife, and the massive amount of baby things we must take with us every where we go. (ie, strollers, baby bags, toys, etc etc) At that time I lived only 7 miles away from my job.
I was laid off and now must drive about 40 miles one way to get to work. My new job only paid about 1500 more than my last job...but I don't see that raise. All that extra money +more goes right into my gas tank.
I have no choice but to drive to work. There is no bus, no commuter rail, no public transportation that goes from my town to where I work.
At this point in time, we are trying to sell our house so that we can move closer to where I work, but with the market the way it is, it has just been sitting there.
While the gas prices aren't yet causing us to miss meals or to not pay other bills, it still takes a chunk out of our "fun money", We used to go out every weekend to shows, to shop, to camp, etc. Now we must plan ahead and factor in the additional gas cost and food costs. Where as before, we never gave it any thought.
We have reduced our spending to compensate, but this sucks. I bust my @$$ to earn a good living and its all going right into my gas tank.
