i think its funny how people think not buying gas or even stealing it is hurting the gas company.
one that gas is paid for by the station you get it from so the oil company has its money before you as the consumer does anything bout it. is you readthe article you would have seen that one of gas stations involved had to suck up the $4000 tab.
second the idea that everyone can just stop driving for a day is absurd. trucks need to get food to stores so you can eat. Buses need to take kids to school, people need to get to work, and business need to run. not buying gas for one day wouldn't hurt the company as much as it would our economy .

"Truckers are increasingly falling prey to thieves targeting diesel, which has also reached stratospheric prices. "

You say, "stratospheric prices. ". You just a bunch of spoiled cry babbies in the USA, we have been paying double of that per gallon in Europe for Years!

Perhaps it is time you all ask "Why in heavens did we all vote for the catastrophic economic and war policies of George Bush?" And it would be a smart article to write next:

Why haven't impeached Gearge Bush and profitiering Vice President Dick Cheney yet"?

You know, the gag order by the Bush administration on the investigation on over 70 USA companies involved in the stealing of BILLIONS of dollars in Iraq and belonging to the US taxe payer! (Halliburton is one of the main ones, does Dick Cheney name ring a bell?)

I don't think its right for the gas to be stolen, but I don't feel its right that hard working citizens should have to pay these high gas prices.
What did they think was going to happen? People were all going to be able to pay these crazy prices, things need to change with these crazy high prices. Most people are working two and three jobs just to make it by and now the prices keep on rising, but the work wages stay the same. Come on! There needs to be some kind of balance here. The people of this nation can only take so much of this unbalance economy.

Do you really believe that a alternative fuel hasn't already been discovered? Or that an engine that gets 100 miles per gallon hasn't already been invented? As soon as these wonderful things are brought to light, the inventor is "termininated" or the patent is bought and buried by big oil heads. You mean to tell me we put a man on the moon, but can't come up with an alternative fuel source...or a super engine....COME ON!! Our government is behind it people...

Truckers don't go on strike because you can't get 2 of them to agree on 1 thing and the union truckers and the company trucks won't go on strike. The big companies get their fuel at a discount and are advertising to come work for them and only pay 1.99 a gallon for fuel? How do they get that? If the truckers would do as they are doing in France ~ America would shut down ~ no if's and's or butt's but no one will do that because they have no backbone. I own my own truck and I pay for my own fuel and I know of lots of guys who are stealing fuel from the pumps and from other trucks ~ thank god they have not hit us ~ if they do they'll find a gun in their face and a bullet in their belly!!

I agree with militarylife, also the answer is not in blaming other countries, they have as much right to buying oil as we do and we certainly cannot sustain ourselves with our own oil. our demand for oil is ridiculus, you can blame China if you want, but that's not going to solve the problem. we need alternate sources of energy AND Fuel efficient veicles, so please stop blaming other countries. we need to respect them if we want to be respected. We ( in the USA) are not the owners of the world, and we need other countries as much as they need us.

I know!!!!!....lets just not buy gas for one entire day...everybody, city by city, all over the world....see what happens....

Hahahahah. The more gas/oil prices goes up who would blame anyone from stealing gas from any gas station across America. The gas companies get rich ans some people get hit hard due to the fact American compines don't want to support a cost of living hick for the American tax payer's. I stand up and give a thumb's up for anyone who pulls a stunt like this. Who cares if the loss of the gas my take another rise due to stealing. It's the point that no matter if it's justified for any good or wrong reason that the oil compines need to know that that the average American is tired of paying riseing gas prices as they get rich. I think it's time that the gas compines give back to us. We pay there wages and bills. I'm sure there is enough money that they could get togeather and form a rebate for the American people. Maybe if they stop hiking prices no body would think of stealing gas...... hummmm something to think about America.

right now Gas in Germany is $8.00 a gallon.
by the end of the summer it will be even more.
As Americans we complain at the drop of a dime. Thinking we are intitled to more for less. Our jobs get out soursed because the people there are willing to work for lower and pay and work harder for it. We are a lazy nation that has gotten itself into such a whole that we are finally looking up and wondering how we got here. But instead of doing anything about it we sit around and complain point fingers and blame everyone else but ourselves.

How most off all of you hit it right on the money.

First the environmentalist. They have gone to the extreme. Gov Terminator joked they were supposed to build a massive solar energy plant in Mojave. Now it is on hold , because of a court order to protect a desert squirrel that know one has seen in twenty years

As for the truckers. You bet hey will , and they have to . Yet many cant due to contracts. I have three friends that are independents, and subcontractors. They started their business in 1977. To fill their tanks on the semi then was 300, Now 1700. They pay for their own fuel. It is not covered in the transport cost..

Back to the wildlife. The founder of Greenpeace , who left the organization years ago, because they got off the right path. He proved has naive some are. Many who support the cause have no idea what they are supporting. He proved it on Penn and Teller's show BS. They asked many in parks in LA and Norfolk VA. It was a mumbo jumbo on how this ITEM cause problems to the environment etc...they all signed....What were all signing against.....WATER suckers. Same with many that are falling on the band wagon of Global Warming. Though you don't see the massive groups of scientist that doesnt support it. They show periods or high and low temperatures around the worked similar to those now...

As for DRILLING. Enough is enough. Yeah...build more Nuclear Plants. More refineries. Yes like many in the oil industry. will admit. Many geological surveys shows that there are many oil fields waiting to be tapped North and South Dakota, Montana, and other regions. Yes off shore. Sorry the BS last month when some one said oh ...HURRICAINES> Forgot to mention that their are 14000 platforms in SW Gulf, and Katrina went right over them...NO LEAKS , or SPILLS. As for the ALASKA.., both Houses vote for it in 1995...WHO VETOED IT...BILL CLINTON. Now CONGRESS SHOELIAR said that it would of only dropped the price three cents. To bad he got it wrong. That was report if they took out crude from Reserves
The geological reports shows that there is more oil there then all of Saudi Arabia,...They have tapped head there now

Time to drill, F****K the importation. Hell TED I AM A IDIOT KENNEDY voted he did not want wind generators off of Hyannis port...ruined the view

Mail your senator and congressmen a drill bit.. Alternate sources are fine, but not practical or ready, that is the next Manhattan Project...You can drill and protect the environment. When was the last time you heard of a spill etc from a oil drilling site....?????????????

Bush is not the best, but sorry Clinton did very little to help. He sure blew it , when Sudan told him they had Bin Laden and would turn him over to US., and yes they had reports on him then and his bozos....THEY BLEW THAT ON TOO
Global Warming...Yeah any one see how much I am a bore Gore is making off it...Yeah time to send him the the ROBOT FAT FARM for some Solar sweating

thats why every honest citizen should have the right to bear arms to protect what is theirs. a few news stories about gas theifes being shot by home owners would deture atleast a few theiving fools

  • Posted By: SickOvAmericanSheep @ 06/13/2008 12:33:10 AM

I agree the majority of Americans are too damn zombiefied to even stand up and make their voice heard. As long as they can clog up the roads with SUV's and can watch reality television taking their attention away from what crisis lies ahead. Then they see it as being no so bad cause it has not quickly affected them. I can't see how paying over a $140.00's to fill your tank would not affect you. How will your children get to soccer practice oh dear oh dear. Fact is many people in America just don't care enough to even try and stand up for anything.

regulate and stop subsidizing the oil companies, good nite people

  • Posted By: ouch!!!! @ 06/13/2008 12:29:41 AM

I know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...lets just don't drive for one hole day....everybody, city by city all over the world...see what happens...maybe if there is no demand......what do you think?

  • Posted By: cholex @ 06/13/2008 12:27:28 AM

Militarylife stay in Germany because you don't want to come here and spent lot's of your paycheck on gas even if you drive a scooter

  • Posted By: Non-following sheep @ 06/13/2008 12:25:04 AM

All of these comments seam to be a little off subject.... unless you are justifying theft with price?

  • Posted By: hilohawaiian @ 06/13/2008 12:23:30 AM

Right now, the cost of a gallon of gas at my gas station is $4.27 (Hilo, HI) and the rojection is that it will go as high as $5.00 per gallon before the summer is over. What has caused this crisis? First, our government saw this coming but did nothing to require automobile manufacturers to design and engineer cars that would be more fuel efficient and/or use alternative fuels. Secondly, our country has not allowed any new refineries is the last 25 years. The EPA requirements are so stringent, it was not worth the oil company's money to build new refineries. Hurricane Katrina took out several refineries in the Gulf thus making it extremely difficult for the remaining refiners to keep up with the demand. The result? Higher fuel prices.
Thirdly, with the rapid expansion of the Chinese and Indian economies (unfortunately due to outsourcing of American jobs) theire is more demand for oil worldwide and that equals higher fuel prices. Fourthly, our government owns oil sources that would provide our country with 60 plus years of fuel but refuses to allow drilling in those areas. Why, who knows but it is probably due to the influence the oil companies have in Washington. Fifthly, ever wonder why a gallon of gas costs $2.50 in Mexico but $4.00 across the border in California? The Mexican government nationalized their oil comnpanies and regulates the price of gas. Why can't that be done in the US? Politics, I'd say. Unfortunately, the main reason for the high price of gas is ours - the American citizen. We have been told for years that this was coming but we chose not to listen and let our government make all the decisions. Had we stood up and demanded action from Washington, things would be very different today. So we are our own worst enemy and now pay the price. Too bad!!!
