Things tend to get worse before they get better. Corruption has crippled Mexico's economy for the longest time and is also one of the main reasons drug cartels are so succesfull. One solution would be to execute all corrupt officials (to include anyone in uniform to political leaders at all levels) on the spot when caught red handed. This may help deter some career paths from crime to something more beneficial to the country.

We spend $25 billion each year on the great war on drugs. Obviously, it hasn't worked. Why not try something different like federally funded drug treatment centers for people who want to shake the habit? If we keep doing the same thing year after year and expect different results, we are nuts. Disband the DEA. Get rid of the cowboys. Fire the drug czar. Try a different approach for the benefit of both countries.

Americans want drugs. Selling drugs to Americans is good business. Keep smoking sniffing and injecting Americans. I cant believe the naive and stupid americans who think the drug war against americans and their freedom can be "won." Thats like america "winning" in afghanistan and iraq. You see america is the problem, stop listening to media propaganda, Americanism is a threat to the world.

Felipe Calderon is doing a great job with what he has, Which isn't much a whole lot of corrupt state officials, cops, and even military. Money is the root of all evil once poor decent people now with $$$$ signs they will kill their own brothers, mothers, and fathers. America needs to build up the borders with US military and capture, or kill any drug smuggler it is in our best intrest for or futures sake. GOD BLESS AMERICANS FERMAN MARTINEZ

It won't help to tie anti-drug hysteria to the problems of this Hispanic invasion. Secure our borders now! Speak English or go home!

Jim45D, I think the best thing for you is to change your citizenship and move to Sinaloa full time. This country does not need spineless wimps like you. With an attitude towdards drug dealers like yours, you might as well join them. Jim are you running a small litte import business between Sinaloa and the United States????

  • Posted By: flanker127 @ 06/13/2008 7:38:21 AM

jim45dn , You need to go back to Sinaloa to live and why don't you change your citizenship while you are at it. The United Stated will be better off without spineless wimps like you. If you can't take a stand for yur country then what good are you. Attitudes like your are NOT how this country was founded

We need to implement Singapore's policies on drugs. The last time I was in Singapore I took a tour and the subject of illegal drugs came up. I was told by the tour guide about a group of drug smugglers that dared to pass through Singapore's territorial waters. The Singaporean Navy was called out, the smuggler's ship intercepted, the crew brought back to Singapore, and the smugglers immediately hanged. That is how you run a war on drugs. The U.S. government is obviously not serious about preventing illegal drug use or they would adopt similar measures. We also need to close the border totally and permanently with that great s h i t hole to the south a.k.a. mexico. It is full of thieves, druggies and scoundrels of all sorts who are ultimately dragging the U.S. standard of living down. The border patrol needs to be ordered to shoot to kill anyone crossing north from mexico.

Mexed: Where I'm from moonshine is big, big business,.We leave them alone. If one doesn't..then one might not have a place to sleep tomorrow, you could get your ass dynamited out, or killed, or both. I say leave these people alone. We didn't cater to revenuers or the govt. and we don't tell either. As I said earlier; I have property in Sinaloa, and when we visit there, and the goofy customs ask where are you coming from...we tell them Sonora. Otherwise they'd tear our vehicle apart...trying to put a feather in their caps. The Border Patrol and Customs are in on the deal also....never doubt it.

I live here for work and love so many things about the country. Two comments: 300 years of supression by the Spanish forever influenced the Mexican culture. To survive they learned to obeye overtly, and get what they needed by whatever means possible. Corruption is endemic. You doubt everything. You may lose everything tomorrow. Nothing should be taken at face value. Laws are guides. Second comment: when the USA can get some self discipline and no longer be the worlds largest consumer of illegal drugs, the Drug lords may lose some power. The demand will guarantee the continuation of supply. There is no way to patrol the entire boarder and all entries by air and water. It is impossible. The big users up north are the ultimate reason for the wealthy of the drug lords in Mexico

Mexed, I agree with you 100%...the problem is the US, and all the freakin' little dopers here in Az. If they didn't buy it then the cartels wouldn't have a place to sell. I have property in Sinaloa, am American, and I have never had a problem. I know plenty who deal there, but I wouldn't tell these *** here if they paid me.

  • Posted By: Jim45D @ 06/13/2008 6:39:42 AM

Why in the hell don't the freakin' US stay out of Mexicos drug business. If the bastards here in the US want to indulge in it...so be it;. The only reason that the US is involved is because they cannot collect tax dollars off the cartel there or here in the US. Have you idiots forgotten the probition era?

I found the comments from mexed concerning cultural attitudes of Mexicans to be interesting. I am an American who has lived in various parts of Mexico for the last 14 years, and have both enjoyed the benefits of this attitude, and been the victim of it. I understand how it came to be,but still don't understand why in continues. I view Mexico as still being a large Hacienda, with a few in power, controlling the the masses, with promises of so little. The corruption that exists, sometimes makes things easier in the short term, but never beneficial in the long run--it just purpetuates the problem. My hope for the future of this beautiful country, is that as the old dinosaurs of the political system die off, and the younger generation matures, is better educated, well traveled, more informed, and comes into power, than perhaps attitudes will change, and Mexico will prosper.

Mexico is a very poor country where the minimum wage is about $5.00 a day (not hour). There is an old saying in clasical economics (JB Say): "Supply creates its own demand." Not so! As long as demand for drugs exists here, Mexico will meet the supply. Indeed, the more the Mexican government cracts down, the more incentive their is for the drug cartels because the effect is to limit supply and raise prices. The "tough habit to break" is in the USA and it is the drug habit here.
