    Valadezaj:

I don't know what planet you're from, but here on Earth, everything is not about freakin' Hillary. This particular story has nothing to do with Hillary, and right now, I personally don't give two craps about Hillary. I do, however, care very much that a fellow AMERICAN who has served this country well for many years has died, leaving a wife, a child, and aging father, AND AN ENTIRE NATION IN MOURNING.

Clearly you don't respect yourself, as you're so willing to show your a$$ to everyone posting here. Maybe you haven't noticed, but no one is joining you in your Russert-bashing for Hillary's sake; not even Hillary, who issued a statement of condolence to Mr. Russert's family today. The only one here who seems not to "get it" is you, which is no surprise to me as you've got your head jammed so far up your a$$ that you obviously can't see and don't care that your country is grieving the loss of one of its best and brightest today.

Tell you what: Since in your mind this is clearly all about you and your anger over Hillary, why don't you grab a mirror, stare deeply into it and pucker your lips. That way, you can see what you look like to everybody here: A great big giant a$$hole.

If you look I was replying to "tired and old's" comment. He brought Hillary up.

    If I should go tomorrow
    It would never be goodbye,
For I have left my heart with you,
    So don't you ever cry.

Tim, you will be sorely missed.

I think that the highest compliment that I can pay to Mr. Russert is that he was truly a journalist. In a world where we have politicians a but not statemen and reporters who seem to cut and paste press releases. Mr. Russert was only out for the truth wherever it might lie and as my wife says; when an interview was over, you never knew where Mr. Russert stood.

Thank you Mr. Russert, your insights were instrumental in getting the American people to understand politics as a whole. The ease and clarity at which you spoke allowed many to wrap their minds around the often deliberately confusing political system we've all tried to understand. You were a true journalist in an era of flashiness and muck-raking where the real stories often got lost, and it was you that brought it all back into focus for all of us. Thanks again Mr. Russert, you will truly be missed.

    Evax
Because of his strong Irish-Catholic background he would be a better Republican and someone I would vote for.

Why can't the Democratic Party nominate a presidential candidate of Tim Russert's caliber? Is the party going to be over?

Sunday morning, coffee and Meet the Press..........it just won't be quite the same anymore. I am an active duty member in the Navy, in 2004 when I was stationed in DC, I wen to a book signing of his at this small book shop on Pennsylvania Ave on Capitol Hill. It was lunch time and I was in uniform and on a tight schedual. The line was out the door and I did not think I was going to have the time to get the book signed. He saw me there and let me come to the front of the line, and then stood up and shook my hand thanking me for my service then signed two books that I bought earlier. It really was one of the nicest feelings and one that I won't forget.

Yes it really is like an old friend dying. Sunday will never be the same.

I grew up with Tim Russert on my television. My parents watched Meet the Press, and although I'm sure I didn't pay too close attention when I was younger, something about it stuck. Now that I am off and married, my wife and I have a Sunday ritual of coffee and Meet the Press. Though I never met the man, it truly does feel like a family member has died.

He was the news media's most objective interviewer, and an honorable human being. I had more respect for him than for any other journalist. His loss will be felt especially in the coming months. If it's Sunday, it's Meet the Press, but it will never be the same.

Sincere condolances to his friends and family, by whom the blow is felt the most.

This is a thought which could easily be overlooked: Russert and his colleague Chris Matthews represent the bright face of American Catholicism: tolerant, learned, caring. The old face of Catholicism, represented by Cardinal Spellman and Father Coughlin was intolerant, medieval, and anti-intellectual and fascistoid. Hooray for John XXIII and Vatican II which made Russert and Matthews possible, even in the unpromising Irish-American milieu.

Tim lived as a man of integrity, and I hope the likes of Fineman, Wolf, Campell Brown, etc who are bias will change for the best and follow the steps of TIM.

The news of Tim Russert's death came as a shock to all of us. I am feeling a sense of loss, although, of course, I didn't know him personally, but I have watched him on TV during this entire political campaign. Regardless of whether or not I agreed with his views, I respected him immensely. Rest in peace, Tim...you've earned it. My thoughts and prayers will be with the family and friends of Tim Russert.

P.S. valadezaj...shame, shame, shame on you!!!!!!!!!

Thank you Howard for this fine assessment. I am anticipating the void we will have this fall, wondering how we will make sense of everything that is happening. But we will have his legacy to aim for - all that is best about American discourse. Peace be with all who are mourning the loss of this magnificent human being.

I am looking at a picture I shot of Tim in 1976, sitting next to Pat Moynihan, beaming at his mentor. They were at a press conference near my home town of Oneonta during the Senator's first election campaign. Tim and I were the same age, both from a working-class Catholic background in upstate New York, yet in his life, he managed to find a route which bypassed what had discouraged me about my intended career in broadcast journalism. He was able to parlay his brilliance and honesty into a position where he could actually speak truth to power, without worrying about pandering to the masses. In a day when political discourse often consists of "yelling heads", when whoever lies the loudest and longest creates the "reality" they want to exist, Tim was able to do his resaerch and confront lies with the truth, insist on answers and not evasions, and give us at least one location in the miasma of Mainstream Media where it might be possible to see a glimmer of truth. I salute Tim for being willing to go out there and slay the dragons, wherever they may be. I regret that he will miss what seems to be a groundswell of energy which I hope will lead our amazing country back to a position where we are respected as the fair, democratic source of inspiration for the world, unlike the last few years of horror we have endured. I know Tim will be watching with great interest and helping any way he can. Go get 'em, Tim.
