There is nothing Obama can say or do to get me to vote for him!!!! I live in Chicago Illinois , Obama has done nothing as Senator and since I live in Chicago where Trinity Church is located I have heard alot of things about this church mostly bad things. Obama belonged to this church for 20 years and called Rev. Wright his mentor and saw nothing wrong with what was preached there. His friendships with Rev. Wright, Farrahken, Pfleger, Ayers, Rezko, your choice of friends tells alot about a persons charactor. This is not someone I would ever vote for and no it has nothing to do with the color of his skin! The DNC democrats made sure he won the nomination, but I think alot of women will not vote for him. There should be no Superdelagates and no cucuses and then this election would have been fair! Now the democrats think we should all unit together in November and vote for Obama, I think NOT!!! NOOBAMA!!!

I agree also. I think they are seriously underestimating the number of people who are crossing over to vote for McCain. I will be joining you.

You have the exact numbers, right?

      I agree.

I thoroughly enjoyed this well-rounded and well-reasoned discussion. It is a breath of fresh air. As a WF, 52, I too think there needs to be a real commitment to delivering on women's issues. It is not enough to support or understand the issues. I am dismayed by the animus expressed by so many bloggers who continue to choose non-issues as the basis for their lack of support of our nominee. To those who have some imagined "experience" threshold by which they measure Obama, the only threshold that really holds water is intelligence and judgment beyond the Constitutionally mandated, 35 years old, natural born, no experience necessary. Many of our great past Presidents did not have what we today would consider "experience," but managed to lead and govern in laudable ways (think Lincoln). Those of us who are disappointed that Hillary did not carry the day, we cannot throw our vote away out of spite, malice, racism, rage or even single issue animus (gay marriage--does anyone really give a toot who marries whom? and how does anyone else's marriage impact the Nation's economy, security, etc.?). Let's be reasonable adults and support the best candidate available this election cycle. Our daughters are counting on us.

    • Posted By: citron16 @ 06/16/2008 4:39:58 PM

We are not throwing away a vote out of spite, malice, racism, or rage. Voting for McCain is picking the better candidate. Also the DNC and democrats should learn that "We The People" are suppose to elect the nominee and president and they did everything in their power to make sure Obama won!!

Obama should have cleaned up his back yard before he decided to run for President !!!

      • Posted By: hotstuff @ 06/17/2008 4:46:17 PM

  • Posted By: thebm4life @ 06/16/2008 3:27:50 PM

Ooooh, that was a rough comment. I do agree with alot of it though, alot of women complain about the imbalance of equal pay and opportunity. But I know alot of corporate women who have been "blackballed" by other women in the company who rebuilt a comfortable workplace into a political nightmare and malicious estrogen-ized melting pot, where if you don't agree with them, you are OUT. In addition to that, these same women become more vindictive and heartless than the men that they replaced. 1 more thing, and alot(not all) are all too willing to interject emotional variables that have nothing to do with real numbers and conditions, just to achieve their PERSONAL OBJECTIVES. It should always be business, never personal, in BUSINESS. But women have a tendency to take ALOT of things personally. That is not a leader, but more of a dictator. TELL ME I AM LYING!!!!! TELL ME!!!!! WE ALL, EVEN YOU WOMEN, know what I am talking about.

Look how Nancy Pelosi did her best to push Hillary out of the democratic primary becuase she is jealous

" What Senator Obama and I share
        is so much greater than our differences;
and no matter who wins this nomination,
I will do everything I can to bring us together
        and move forward!"
        Hillary Clinton

        • Posted By: citron16 @ 06/16/2008 11:17:50 PM

Hillary had to say that!!! What did you expect her to say!!!!

          • Posted By: hotstuff @ 06/17/2008 4:39:49 PM

All Democrats should say and do that!
And if you can´t, then you´re not a Democrat anyway.
And your posts reveal your Republican affiliation!

No, Texas, just speaking how I feel in my heart. Hey!!! I used to live in your state BTW. I loved it--Pittsburgh is really warm and friendly, but when I lived near Dallas I loved it. My relatives are still there....they've been there longer than when they were here.

Terrific article. I enjoyed it and "Ditto" it all over the place. I am a Hillary supporter and remain so and found your article absolutely true, very true to the point and very, very well written. Thanks for saying so eloquently what I was thinking but do not have the expertise to put on paper. I just wish Obama had the intelligence to put Hillary on the ticket in order to assure the White House for the Democrats in November.

    • Posted By: dreffein @ 06/17/2008 2:31:39 PM

jpusa - Obama will not put her on the ticket. He just hired her former campaign manager (who HRC had fired) to be chief of staff for VP. So, it's clear he is being insincere when he says HRC is on his "short list".

Most of the pundits like David Gergen, Candy Crowley and the idiots at MSNBC think this is a major slap at HRC. I agree.

Are all you woman really going to vote for a man who wants to overturn Roe vs Wade? Are you really willing to let a man tell you what rights you as a woman can have in this country? Are you really ready for another four years of Pres. Bush policy??????? HAVE YOU LEARNED NOTHING THE PAST 8 YEARS??? So if you really want no heath care for our children, more of our children dying in Iraq and an our economy to keep going down the drain, then vote for McCain. If your children really matter to you and THEIR FUTURE then you will vote for the canidate that will make sure they have a chance in the future!!!!! I am a young white woman in this country. I would love to see a woman in the White House, but I will not sacrifice my childrens future because I am bitter that the woman lost. If we elect John McCain in office then everything that Hillary Clinton has worked for to liberate woman will be for nothing. Our young girls will never have a chance if we put another republican in office. Our young girls will have no rights left. QUIT BEING SELFISH AND START THINKING ABOUT OUR CHILDRENS FUTURE!!!!!

    • Posted By: pcooney @ 06/17/2008 1:49:47 PM

You are absolutely right! What sense does it make to vote for someone who is the complete OPPOSITE of Hillary in November to what, teach us all a lesson?? The future of our children is at stake! We women need to stop whining and start THINKING!!

  • Posted By: ayoss58 @ 06/17/2008 3:24:41 AM

Well, if wishes were horses beggars will ride. Wasn't it Hillary wishes that Renzko, Pastor Wright, and others show up???.
Now it is his citizenship. Before it was his name, his kindergarden papers, drug use,the traditional somali garment he wore on his African tour. Now it is citizenship!!!. How pathetic!!!.
If anybody has a citizenship problem, it is John McCain!!!.. McCain was born in Panama Canal not on the mainland of the United States. The constitution is very clear: only American born in the United States shall rn for the office of president. McCain even doesn't have a birth certificate. How can you prove he'seven American?.
Even if you prove that you can not change the fact that he was born in Panama, an irrefutable fact.Panama was never and still isn't one of the 50 states!!!.

    • Posted By: cookiegramma @ 06/17/2008 1:33:49 PM

It is time you learned the law of the land my friend. Your information is not fully correct as reguards being born as a citizen. People born on military bases, in US embassys ect. are born as citizens of the United States and thus are able to become president of the country. Please do some research into this type of thing before boring more people with your lack of education.

    • Posted By: catspaw @ 06/17/2008 1:33:17 PM

John McCain is an American Citizen considering the Panama Canal was a US terrority at the time of his birth and at less one parent was US citizens serving in the military.

Ridiculous article - Anna Quindlen is attempting to rehash old gender battle lines instead of viewing the world as it is today. Women have more opportunities than ever before. No, it's not yet an equal playing field, but it is getting better every day. Instead of writhing in the wounds of the past, the author should take notice of how the women of my generation voted - for Obama, en mass. Yes, the "old women" to which the author referred still vote, but voting for a woman simply because they'd like to see one in the White House before their time is up is petty and selfish. If they really want to do what's right for the younger generation of women, vote with them. Vote for them. Vote for Obama.

Excellent commentary/letter. This writer has stated so eloquently what I believe many women in America are feeling. I thnk her for speaking for the masses. Her points are well taken and valid. Although this leter was directed to Sen. Obama, I feel it should be addressed to all the powers that be in our great country. The USA needs to open its eyes and ears and hear what the female populaiton of this world are saying. We are only aksing that we be recognized and respected equally for whatever contributions we make. Bottom line is, if it weren't for the women of this world, where would we all be???

I had stopped reading Newsweek since it published its biography of Barack Obama based only on selective materials included in his autobiographies. But I was intrigued by this title... I should have known better. My teenage son has autism. He struggles to read verbal and non-verbal social cues. I taught him to listen more to what people do than to what they say. Trying to redeem Senator Obama for disrespecting Senator Clinton and the female voters who supported her, in these few months before the general election; by putting words into his mouth that would placate you, points to your need to rationalize voting for this man despite the fact, you obviously know better.

    • Posted By: nicsea @ 06/16/2008 6:26:33 PM

How exactly has Barack Obama disrespected Hillary Clinton and the female voters who voted for her?

I won't vote for McCain, but he was born an American. I don't care if he was born in Panama. That is a weak, weak argument that he was not born on the U.S. Continent ... LOL. The guy is STILL a U.S. citizen.

  • Posted By: ayoss58 @ 06/17/2008 1:41:53 AM

But formeroobamarobot, you now admit you are McCain's footstool without being asked or dated. Will John McCain pay you anything like supporting women rights in the workplace or the army?. Will he be pro-choice and pro-universal health-care???. So sis no dowry means politically you're worthless in the eyes of your new king McCain.Noone pays for a free breakfast.Good luck with McCain.Watch for when he dumps you, we will be rejoicing in the blogs!!!.
For serious and principled women, not these irrational soccer moms, let your vote count for something you believe in and will make a difference in your lives and your country. You are the majority not these irrational, raging and fanatical Hillary supporters. We shouldn't even bother anymore about them. They are rich and old and selfish like their qween. They don't need universal health care, abortion rights nor have anyone in Iraq. For them it's game of trying to hijack the VP having lost the nomination.Hillary was no champion of the majority of principled and decent women but that of these fanatics. You know them by their irrational arguments and extremism. Any woman knows that to throw your self at any man who hasn't sincerely asked for it is worst kind of humiliation a woman can heep on herself. Some women see it and others don't. Perhaps that' why we will still have some women supporting and contributing to their oppression in the 21st century.By November Obama will be history but will you be fine under the weight of McCain oppression of women rights???.

    Barack Obama is hollow.........
Didn't we hear all this same crap when Carter ran for office? We all know how his presidency turned out!

    • Posted By: HelloHello @ 06/16/2008 9:57:51 PM

What is all this crap you are talking about my fellow American archmsu? Please enlighten the young voters because some of us are not as well informed as you are. Is McCain's crap any different from GWBushs'?

      • Posted By: archmsu @ 06/16/2008 10:17:45 PM

Where you alive during the Carter presidency? If not, have you studied your history(facts, not emotion)? For starters....His campaign was about "Change," (Insert your problem here) that great buzz word. During his presidenct the economy tanked, inflation rates were rasied, unemployment was rasied, and we had an oil embargo, forcing americans to wait in mile-long lines to get a couple gallons of gas. Then there was that hostage crisis that he screwed up, leaving americans dead. And to top it off, he ruined the lives of thousands of American athletes by boycotting the olympics in Russia, just so he could say he was tough on communism. He was all talk.......... And by the way....why do you instantly assume that i support McCain? I didn't mention anything about him, you "hater."

        • Posted By: citron16 @ 06/16/2008 10:31:27 PM

You are very right Obama is like Carter. Carter talked about change and could not back it up!!!!

          • Posted By: HelloHello @ 06/16/2008 11:03:14 PM

Archumsu here is a HUG for calling me a "hater". To answer your question about my existence, I was still in my crib but thanks for asking. Thank you for informing me with "all this crap". I don't believe I assumed anything about you and Mr. McC. I was only asking you a question since you seemed to be so informed about presidential crap duplications. I was just wondering how you two are so sure Mr. Obama won't be able to back it up.

            • Posted By: archmsu @ 06/17/2008 2:31:50 AM

I jus kidding around about the "hater" thing........They're both idiots, i have no faith in modern politicians.

    • Posted By: marksgershenson @ 06/16/2008 11:49:52 PM

It is funny, I have been around for 54 years, and I remember the crap all too well. I am not a Carter fan at all, and I also consider his tenure a failure...There were two things that still stand out in my mind....One which is the greatest accomplishment was the peace accord between Israel and Egypt Nobody seems to remember. The second item has to do with our energy problems....Here is a website that showed his foresight regarding our energy problems...this is from 1977 and see how prophetic this is...
      http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/amex/carter/filmmore/ps_energy.html

And finally, there is new evidence that the federal reserve did not exactly play their cards correctly when he was president. I think there was an article either in CNN or Newsweek where the feds were not aggresive enough when he was in office to tame inflation...it created what would be considered a perfect storm that created chaos in the economy that took a recession during Regan's years to stop the inflation.

Unfortunately the bad overrode the two positives in his four years. He is up there with the top 10 worst presidents ever. I don't think Obama is Carter, but only history will be the judge...
