How about McCain taking money from a fundraiser who takes rape for a joke!!!??? Nothing to say???

Though Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama's policies were similar, they did, at times, disagree. Obama wholeheartedly disagreed with Hillary Clinton's proposed gas-tax holiday.

We should not create fictitious narratives about the democratic primary election to further personal arguments. It was beyond either candidate to allow or disallow Florida and Michigan votes. The decision to seat Florida and Michigan fell on the Democratic National Committee's Rules & Bylaws Committee.

In terms of coattail riding, the same could be said for Hillary Clinton; but, I think it is beneath this heightened conversation to interject prophecy, conspiracy theory and/or wishful thinking.

Why argue on petty issues? Obama is NOT black nor White .He's a symbol of unity ,the whole said they have Confidence in Obama then john McCain....are we going to make fools of Ourself and being Isolated by The rest of the World just because black and white issue?

Everytime there is a close election, the votes candidates need to win are always separated into groups..such as the "black" vote the "latino" vote and the "women: vote. If you look at history those categories were taken into consideration so they could "win/buy" the election. Once in office, nothing is going to change..You'll go from the "black" vote to just "blacks" you go from the "latino" vote to just latinos and the "women" voters will go be to be just "women". No matter who you vote for...everything is going to remain the same or get worse.

It is so easy to blame sexism, or racism for that matter, for everything that goes wrong. The Clinton campaign made mistakes in the beginning, and in the end Bill was a handicap. When two run, one has to lose.
I was unpleasantly surprised by the anger of some women, and their threat to not vote for Obama. Do you want to prove sexists right by being vindictive and overly emotional when your candidate loses? Do you really want to lose our hard won rights, by not voting in November or by voting for McCain? I hope you all come to your senses

Many of your comments were valid and issues that Mr. Obama should consider, but your insinuation that a "Black" man can take up the cause of "white" women took me off guard. Why only "white" women. Why not "women." Why should Mr. Obama only take up the cause of "white" women, why not all women.

This country has to get over this pre-existing condition called "Racism."

Black people are less relevant in this country. Given the history of race in America, I argue that there would not have been an article such as Quindlen's that would have articulated the political concerns of black people--or any other peoples of color.

White women does not the United States make, and are not the only group/vote that presidential nominees should vie for. It is the duty of every candidate to speak to the needs of all groups--those who have been historically entitled as well as those who have a history of disenfranchisement.

You brought up good points for Mr. Obama to think about but why is the cause for "white" women. What about Latinos, African Americans, Chinese Americans, Japanese American women. Couldn't you have just said "women"

This is a great article and I have more advice for Obama on how to connect with us women. The cause of real women's advancement has been largely abandoned by teh feminiet cause who chose to focus on ABORTION as the seemingly one and only issue concerning women for the past 25 years. Well, the sexual revolution devolution of the family abortion etc. was more above deconstructing good values than it was about helping women. In fact, I would argue it has hurt women to a large extent as many men feel comfortable walking away from their families and who is left to do EVERYTHING when they do that? WOMEN! I am a single working mother-highly educated and is a "good" job. YOu know what---even with almost $70,000 in income (gross) I often cannot feed my kids, I drive a 15 year old jalopy, have no TV and no money--why? DAYCARE costs more than state college and it can't be financed. How can women advance in the workplace if they can't even afford to go to work becasue there is no help for low er middle to middle class moms for daycare. If I was flipping burgers at Mickey D's my daycare would be all paid for but since I dared go to college and law school, I am deemed not needing help. WRONG. Women's issues are often middle class and family issues--except we women are hit harder when we're mothers. Another way to help me---if I didn't have so much education debt--my life would alot better. Again, women and middle class issue (higher education affordability) is the same. Remember women have alot of nurgens at home and if you want to help us, help ease those burdens that gives us time to develop professionally, the incentive to work and the reward for it.

Adjusting women's maternity leave before and after delivery would certainly help.

Any ideas why, after the incredible media ballyhoo in his favour in the time after Hillary quit, Obam didn't get a lift in the polls?

He's dead even with McCain, according to Gallup.

The media love this slick fellow.

    Not the average US voter.

In case you missed it we have been joined by one of the 13% of America who claim Obama is Muslim.

I figured out why they say it, it's not because they actually believe it, it that's it is relatively "ok" to hate Muslims, but NOT to hate blacks, so it's not that he's "black" that they hate him, it's cause he's...you guessed it....Muslim.

What a sad 13% you are, you're right in that group that still think the country is fine, and who support Bush and WAR FOR OIL.

Hussein's not a mohammed??? Someone needs to tell his brother.........

The Jerusalem Post, via LGF, reported:

Barack Obama's half brother Malik said Thursday that if elected his brother will be a good president for the Jewish people, despite his Muslim background.

In an interview with Army Radio he expressed a special salutation from the Obamas of Kenya.
Barack Obama's brother Malik Abongo "Roy" Obama is a Luo activist and a militant Muslim who argues that the black man must "liberate himself from the poisoning influences of European culture."

The Democratic party has always been the party to champion issues important to women, and I expect that to continue. As this article so nicely points out, we need candidates who will speak up about issues of decent child care, issues of decent elder care, issues of reproductive rights - and you can bet that person won't be McCain.

The 70's may be over, but the reality is that many women have a disadvantage in the work place because they are women, or more to the point, because they are mothers, and increasingly, because they are daughters.

However, I, for one, did not have the luxury of riding my husband's coattails to get ahead in my chosen career, like HIlary did; I got respect in the workplace the old-fashioned way - I earned it. If someone was underestimating me, I and I alone made sure they didn't underestimate me for long.

I have gray hair and crow's feet, too, but Hilary was never MY surrogate.

This election is not about a vocal minority of women who refuse to give up their cherished role as victims. It is also not about a vocal minority of men who want to cling to the good ol' boy way of doing things. Both minorities are becoming more irrelevant, thank goodness.

This election is about using the brains God gave us to work together to fix what the republicans have broken.

Anna, do you know who Barack is? I might suggest reading his book "Dreams from my Father" before making broad assumptions about his life. He clearly spells out how his grandmother was the main bread winner in his family. She was VP at a bank who earned that title by being the first one there in the morning and the last one to leave. She saw less qualified men climb up the corporate ladder faster than her because of her gender, yet never called them sexist. His mother raised her family as a single mother, going to grad school for anthropology and living half-way across the world fulfilling the requirements for her degree. The women who made Barack who he is do not fall into stereotypical rolls that you assumed in this article.

Can I also mentioned he spent years in Chicago helping single mothers improve their lives? Go to the South Side of Chicago and you will find a large number of women whose lives he helped in every way he could. His life was shaped by strong women and he will never take that for granted. The women in his live were ahead of their time, feminists before there was even a term or a movement.

Be reminded that we owe to Nader the 8 years of hate towards america throughout the world; an insane invasion in Iraq; a trillion dollar debt to China; a lack of essential services to our country's lowest payed class and, and ... generated by the bush administration.
