There are LOTS of wonderful people in Wyoming, college educated, with teeth, mostly Republicans. However, my friends in Laramie are all firmly behind Obama, and they are Republicans. You never know.

To be sure the signers of the Declaration of Independence represented the enfranchised classes of Englishmen, but they also knew the difference between a republic and a kingdom and they understood the significance of a government based on a written consititution. Writing under a pseudonym in the Boston Gazette in 1774, John Adams both asserted the English origins of the new republic and its aspiration to something different when he famously quoted the English republican theorist James Harrington's call for an "Empire Of Laws And Not Of Men," strategically substituting the word "government" for Harrington's "empire." We have in the last seven years seen a sustained and often successful effort to replace that government of laws with something closer to the royal prerogative against which Harrington wrote in 1656.

In this respect the Obama candidacy Is ... Not About An Individual ..., but about reasserting the distinction of a nation, membership in which is not hereditary but elective. To think of the unlikeliness of a similarly African-British, African-French, or African-German leader is on one level to be reminded of our peculiar national history and the role of slavery within it. But on another level it is in one fell-swoop to reassert the American exception the Bush administration has most assiduously suppressed -- that in America, citizenship -- in a technical sense -- is not by genetic inheritance or collective memory, but by subscription. "We the people" sign our names to a document that attempts to spell out and bind "a more perfect union." For us, this is the difference between being a subject and a citizen, and I suspect this reassertion is what remains truly revolutionary about us.

I suspect it is the underlying prospect of a deeply willed renewal of our national subscription to the government of laws and not of men that has made the Obama candidacy so exhilarating both here and in Europe. But this exhilaration comes also because we hang now, in the interim, by a very finely spun thread. What is at stake in the coming election could not be more clearly drawn than it was in the Supreme Court's five to four affirmation of habeas corpus last week. Five to four! The next President will almost certainly choose two justices during his tenure. John McCain has already indicated that he will choose justices who resemble Roberts, Alito, Scalia, and Thomas -- that is, justices who will reverse Roe v. Wade; but such justices will also fail to uphold the real American exception: the citizens' subscription to checks and balances and to the written-out rule of law. Justice Stevens is 88 years old. May he live forever. But as we rejoice over the prospect that America will soon once again be a nation of hope in which the rule of law is re-affirmed, we need also to remember that we stand today but one vote away from the end of the line.

Obama will not win and the polls are premature- and we all know it- The enuthusiasm for this person who studied under Reverend Wright will come back and bite him- He is not trustworthy and if he was not "black' he would not have won over Hillary. Obama preeches to wide audiences because he is afraid of people one on one- He has no experiance and no qualifications to lead a country or a business. The Democrats who want "change' must realize that 'change' can be very disasterous with Obama, 'oh boy!' wake up.!!

    • Posted By: Kboogie @ 06/16/2008 9:19:50 AM

I hate to be the bearer of reality.......HRC would have NEVER been a candidate, if she wasn't married to Bill Clinton. Her time as 'first lady' was her catapult into politics. She wouldn't have had the fortune of being seriously considered as a Senator if she wasn't a "lucky wife".

Today's Gallup: "Not only has Barack Obama recently opened a small lead over John McCain in Gallup Poll Daily tracking of voter preferences for the general election, but he leads McCain 52% to 41% in public perceptions of who will win in November. Democrats are slightly more confident that their presumptive nominee will prevail in November -- 76% say Obama will win -- than Republicans are about McCain's chances (67%). What tips the balance of national opinion more strongly in favor of Obama is that, by a nine-percentage point margin, independents join Democrats in believing Obama is likely to win."

      Wait, it gets better.........

Don't forget Rasmussen: "The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Sunday shows Barack Obama attracting 46% of the vote while John McCain earns 39%. When ???leaners??? are included, Obama holds a six-point advantage, 49% to 43%. This is the eighth straight day that Obama has enjoyed a lead of five-to-seven points "

Looks to me like no one cares about Rev. Wright, anymore. Except you, who is now, unfortunately, in the minority. Looks like Dems want his kind of "change."

      • Posted By: Richard1327 @ 06/17/2008 5:11:37 PM

And Obama would have never dared to be a candidate if he wasn't black. What white senator with one year experience in the senate would have had the nerve or the backing of 95% of blacks to run for president? Not even Jim Webb had balls that big and he has military experience and a functioning noncocaine chain smoking brain.

        • Posted By: Kboogie @ 06/17/2008 6:30:15 PM

Sooooooo are you upset that he ran for POTUS, or that he received a mojority of the Democratic support? I don't understand your point. Black or white, he ran on his own merit. HRC ran on the premise that she was a "shoe-in". She even said, in an interview, that she had NO strategy after super Tuesday. That's HER fault.

He doesn't control where he gets his votes. HRC was getting the majority of the black vote before Bill offended everyone in S. Carolina. Again, I don't understand your argument. Jesse Jackson is black and only won one state. Obama won b/c of more than his ethnicity. But, whatever helps you cope. LMAO!!!!!!

I think McCain will win if Obama can't defend himself from the growing accusations that he is bring MARXISM in the the United States of America.

MANY HILLARY FANS WOULD FORGIVE MCCAIN OF HIS OWN SINS BUT NOT OBAMA. THE HILLARY FANS, TAKING A CUE FROM BILL CLINTON NOW UNDERSTOOD WELL WHY HILLARY LOST. IT WAS ALL THE DESIGN OF DNC HOWARD DEAN WHO WAS A SOCIALIST. IT WAS CLEAR THEY'RE MOVING TO CHICAGO.... THE ROOT OF ALL COMMUNISM IN AMERICA.

    • Posted By: sjpersonal @ 06/17/2008 6:07:37 PM

Ok, are you serious? Chicago is the root of all communism in america? Seriously this is your point?

    • Posted By: Nins @ 06/15/2008 10:42:32 AM

      Dear Pearl,

If you would take the time to read Obama's book Audacity of Hope, you would know that Obama is against Marxism, and discusses how both Communism and Socialism have FAILED. Obama is a Constitutional scholar who loves America and thinks it has the greatest political system on earth.

While you are at the library, get copies of McCain's books also. Read them and compare them to Obama's. I think that you will be pleasantly surprised.

And, I beg to differ with you, but I think the root of all Communism in America is in Joe McCarthy's brain.

All kidding aside, the headquarters of the American Communist Party is on 23rd Street in NYC, not in Chicago. The headquarters of the American Nazi Party is in Arlington, Virginia. Chicago was, in times past, known for being a gangster town. It was also known for it's rough and tumble party politics. But when you say "Communism," Chicago does not just leap into my mind.

I think that you need to get your facts straight.

EGee I'm black and if I were president I wouldn't change America into being like Africa not a really small chance in hell. As for the Whittie comment been black for over fifty six years never used it and the first time I heard it, it was used of Sanford and Son. It will sound funny using a term that is not used by the majority of blacks just a few during the Prior (Richard and Red Fox) days.

McCain said that Roe v Wade is a flawed decision and he will do everything to help overturn that decision. He also said that women should not make that choice. He is actually saying that women do not have the right to decide what to do with there bodies. So if you get raped and you are pregnant , under McCains rule, you will have that baby and like it. You angry Hillary lovers, please by all mean, go and vote for McCain. You old ladies know that you don't have much left on this planet and you don't care about the young women who would have to grow up and be told what to do with there bodies. Remember who is McCains friend. The Texas Republican who said that women who get raped should just lay there and take it. You angry Hillary lovers really are starting to make me sick.

No, I believe that too. Just wanted to hear what you thought. I think it is way too much of a major issue for a President to even think about addressing especially given all of the major issues that will be on the plate of the next President to resolve.

This is a position that is just not based on fact. All right to life issues are decided by 5-4 -- so far, in favor of women's rights. But take away one pro-choice vote and substitute an anti-abortion vote and women will lose their right to chose. If you're planning of voting for McCain thinking he won't follow through on his promise to appoint a Scalia-like justice and work to overturn R v.W, you may be heading for a rude awakening. Why would you assume that McCain's published position on this is not a true assessment of his goals. The own thing you have right is that it would, indeed, take women back to the stone age.

      • Posted By: Nins @ 06/15/2008 10:09:58 PM

I have been DYING for someone to ask me to prove my assertions that McCain has PROMISED to stack the deck in the Supreme Court and overturn Roe vs. Wade.

        Here's a direct quote:

"John McCain believes Roe v. Wade is a flawed decision that must be overturned, and as president he will nominate judges who understand... Constitutional balance would be restored by the reversal of Roe v. Wade, returning the abortion question to the individual states... However, the reversal of Roe v. Wade represents only one step in the long path toward ending abortion. Once the question is returned to the states, the fight for life [must continue]..."

Guess, just guess, where I got this quote from? John McCain's official website!

McCain says that not only will he force the Supreme court to overturn Roe vs. Wade, but then he will fight at the state level to ban it, making it illegal everywhere.

        See for yourself:

        http://www.johnmccain.com/

You keep posting the "fact" that McCain does not want to overturn Roe vs. Wade, that this is a rumor made up by Democrats to scare people away from voting for McCain. But please, if you have not done so already, go to McCain's website and read his official stand on this issue. And stop posting lies about this. You know it's true that McCain has promised to overturn Roe vs. Wade.

And the BarackStar has no problem, vetoing any bill to abolish it, if elected POTUS. He "wouldn't want to punish his daughters, for a mistake, with a baby." He will trade life for a vote.

You know, I know that McCain is for some chgs to Roe vs. Wade, but it will never happen even if he really decided to pursue it (think its on his site to appease pro-lifers personally). But after reading about Obama being pro-Partial Brith abortion, and looking up what this procedure is, im abhored. There is still a ban on this procedure now, is that correct? Is it up for a vote anytime soon? For those people who do not know exactly what this procedure is, here is what I found to describe it:

OBAMA IS PRO - PARTIAL BIRTH ABORTION:

What is Partial Birth Abortion: http://www.whatispartialbirthabortion.org/

  • Posted By: willnotvoteobama @ 06/16/2008 4:12:32 PM

I don't think people are supporting Obama because he is a black man. Sure , he is smart ,charismatic and a bright politician but sorry to disappoint, it's not because of his pigment. Maybe he gets a good number of votes due to it, but that wasn't the crushing reason for his upset of Hillary. Like him or not, the guy is very very impressive. His delivery has been remarkable over the past year. But all of those reasons still would not (out of no where) sling shotted him beyond one of the most powerful politically machines we have ever witness- the Clintons.

No way folks , this was much larger. The reason Obama was successful in overthrowing "Clinton" was clearly due to something else. In 2004, after the Kerry lost, Move on .com and the radical loony left vowed they would own the Democratic party in 08 !They made true on their goal! Today, they are one of Obama's strongest financial and political supporters. "Move on" also support many other radical groups that are also pro-Obama. It intrigues me ,as well, that Obama strongest support appears to be those who hold "quiet hatred" towards their own country. (A country ,mind you, that gives them freedom like no other.)

It's clear Obama supporters know that he is the best candidate that can make the U.S. A . weaker in the eyes of the world. That's what his supporters want! Call it guilt or misguided views that are based on MTV, Hollywood and foreigners (quietly and politely) who would love to see another 911 in America. In the last 7 years ,after 911, it has become a transparent phenomenon. What ever is the cause, higher minds must prevail . Lastly before I leave you, The the top 10 groups supporting Obama:

    1. White guilt
2.Yong white followers of idiotic rap music.
    3. Bush Haters
    4. American Haters
    5. Elitist Hollywood Loons
    6. 60 years old who want to relive their radical 60s years.
    7. people who ignore the fact that political correctness has gone a muck.
    8. People who think Obama may give them something for free.
    9. David Lettermen and his entire audience!
    10 Americans who hate America!

Take that David letterman! You America hater!!!

Straight from National Press Club events calendar. I can't stop laughing. America will soon find out why, the BarackStar is so skinny, and is/was a chain smoker....hahahaha

    Larry Sinclair on Barack Obama
There will be a Pre-Registration for Press beginning at 1:00pm. All press must show media credentials and must obtain an event press pass to enter the event.

Washington, D.C. - Despite death threats and an organized campaign to prevent him from speaking publicly, Larry Sinclair -- on June 18, 2008, at 2:00 PM (Sign in begins at 1:00 PM) in the Holeman Lounge of the National Press Club, 529 14th Street NW, Washington, DC 20045, will for the first time reveal the corroborating evidence for his claim that on November 6 + 7, 1999, Larry: (i) met Obama at a gay bar where Barrack Obama arranged for the purchase of federal Schedule II drugs, (ii) which Larry and Obama thereafter ingested and (iii) then engaged in hi-risk, homosexual activities.

Larry's story burst on to the scene on January 18, 2008, when Larry released a short video containing these allegations on YouTube.com. That video has had close to a million views yet the mainstream media has completely ignored Larry's serious allegations. Thereafter, a clearly orchestrated campaign to discredit Larry began on the internet which forced Larry to resort to federal court to protect his reputation.

At the press conference, Larry will (i) reveal the corroborating evidence for his allegations regarding Obama, (ii) address the time-line of the response of the Obama campaign to his allegations and the murder of Donald Young, the openly gay choir director of Trinity United Church of Christ, Obama's now-former church and (iii) the significance of the refusal of U.S. District Court Judge Henry H. Kennedy, Jr. to allow Larry's case to proceed.

TO ALL INFORMED VOTERS............STAY OUTTA THE MATRIX!!!!!

The group paying the bill at the press club event is Veritas Federal Media, an LLC political consulting group headed by Joseph R. Giganti, a conservative commentator who served as national media strategist for Alan Keyes, when Keyes ran for the Senate seat against -- HELLO -- Obama!!!

"Giganti looks like he could be at the head of this nasty piece of business with Sinclair, since Veritas Federal Media, the group sponsoring Sinclair's political porn presser, is obviously quite close in name to Giganti's original group Veritas Media Group, LLC, as well as his other group, 'Veritas Media Group.' Or maybe it's just a coincidence that 'Veritas Federal Media,' with a similar name of other Giganti media groups, popped up to sponsor Sinclair him on June 18th.

"To give you some foundation, Giganti has also been the go to guy in the past for the National Pro-Life Action Center, including several events over the years. He specializes in misinformation and propaganda on all things having to do with women's reproductive health, including places beyond our borders. He refers to these efforts as "so-called family planning," believing in abstinence only, of course, no matter the practical difficulties, the actual evidence, or the dangers to women, including poor women around the world who are especially at risk to HIV/AIDS."

For some reason, the press club is wiling to WHORE itself out, but media types don't seem much interested in actually exploring the authenticity of the story.

        Hi KB,

I have peaked at one of the Larry Sinclair youtube videos, the man loos as though he is "Sick", no teeth and all. This might be the reason behind this money for meds, there is also another piece of garbage who made a similiar video. This is below disgusting, on his site Mr. sinclair notes The Globe and Enquirer, yet I have never seen this on either of their front pages, nothing else to do in the grocery line, he also mentions that the RNC is cooperating with him, how surprising.

        THESE PEOPLE ARE SLIME!!

It's totally disgusting. It has all of the elements of an "assassination" atempt, w/o the dead body. Sinclair is just the "patsy". He has neither the brains, or the money to architect such a design. It's the same thing that happened to JFK, RFK, MLK.....

It's only going to get worse, though. Fasten your seatbelt!!!

Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama said Thursday the United States cannot use its military to solve humanitarian problems and that preventing a potential genocide in Iraq isn???t a good enough reason to keep U.S. forces there.

???Well, look, if that???s the criteria by which we are making decisions on the deployment of U.S. forces, then by that argument you would have 300,000 troops in the Congo right now ??? where millions have been slaughtered as a consequence of ethnic strife ??? which we haven???t done,??? Obama said in an interview with The Associated Press.

???We would be deploying unilaterally and occupying the Sudan, which we haven???t done. Those of us who care about Darfur don???t think it would be a good idea,??? he said.

Obama, a first-term senator from Illinois, said it???s likely there would be increased bloodshed if U.S. forces left Iraq.

???Nobody is proposing we leave precipitously. There are still going to be U.S. forces in the region that could intercede, with an international force, on an emergency basis,??? Obama said between stops on the first of two days scheduled on the New Hampshire campaign trail. ???There???s no doubt there are risks of increased bloodshed in Iraq without a continuing U.S. presence there.???

The greater risk is staying in Iraq, Obama said.

???It is my assessment that those risks are even greater if we continue to occupy Iraq and serve as a magnet for not only terrorist activity but also irresponsible behavior by Iraqi factions,??? he said.

So people who really care about Darfur are happy to let the Arab genocide against Black Africans continue, because deploying troops to crush the racist jihadi insurgency isn???t a ???good idea???? Doesn???t that strike anyone as a disgustingly amoral stance?

And since when is genocide considered ???irresponsible behavior??? as opposed to unmitigated evil?

Obama just exposed himself as either completely shallow and naive, or some sort of emotionless leftbot.

Barack Obama for President of the UNITED States of America.

BARACK OBAMA WILL BE THE BLACK OR WHITE KING OF:

UNITED SOCIALIST STATE OF AMERICA,,, LIVING LIKE IN AFRICA.

      USSAA for short.

I just want to say God bless you Nins. You manage to remain civil and intelligent in the face of so much trash. Thank you for staying the course and holding to the truth.

Thank you so much, Xeye, for those word of encouragement.

I have to say though, that I do not always remain civil, even though I wish that I did. Sometimes I tell the racist rumor-mongers where to get off rather rudely. But I do always hold to the truth.

            Thanks again.

After Obama looses he should move to Kenya and run for President there. Obama could take Rev. Wright to Kenya with him..

Being a president of the US is the most stressful and demanding job in the world. I have nothing against McCain, but its a simple fact that someone in McCain's health condition at 72years wouldn't have the energy to be an effective president. There is a reason afterall we retire at 65.

The best strategy is honesty. Obama has to confess to voters what happened during his 20-year marriage with Wright, and show articulately that there is not a latent Wright virus tangled in his genome. To cover up this problem with other strategies would prove meaningless. Overall, Americans cannot take the risk to elect a quasi-terminator who may be programmed to lie and licensed to kill.

I just heard something interesting in all the tributes paid to Tim Russert. Apparently, he made an offhand comment during the 2000 election about one candidate winning the popular vote while the other won the Electoral College. This year, he has made an offhand comment about a 269-269 tie in the Electoral College. I've noticed that many people who post to these boards do not understand the electoral process and I thought I would get a warning out early

In the event of a tie in the Electoral College, the election of the president is given to the House of Representatives. The party in the majority, obviously, would win in this scenario, i.e. the Democrats.

I can almost hear the howls of protest now. "The peoples vote should elect the president, not the House of Representatives." and so on. Like it or not, however, this is the law -- the way our system has been set up to determine elections. It's not going to change between now and December (when the Electoral College meets).

One more thing, electors to the Electoral College are not bound to vote according to their state's vote. Under the Constitution, they are supposed to make a learned choice. Originally, electors were appointed by state governments as a way of giving the states more input to the national governement. As suffrage got extended to more and more people, states decided to have the electors to the Electoral College elected by the people. Throughout our history, there have been several instances of electors who did not vote with their states -- most recently in the 2004 election when one elector from the District of Columbia voted "present." In all previous cases, the "faithless" elector made no difference, but if -- by some far out chance -- this election should come down to a 269-269 tie, one faithless elector would make all the difference. And it would be 100% legal and definitive.

Again, I can hear the howls -- but this is our law.

Now, having said that: I think Obama will win this election in a walk by duplicating the Kerry election map and adding New Mexico, Colorado, Iowa and Virgina. Ohio and FLorida are not needed in the mix for a win.

Mimi, while it is true the House of Reps decides the Presidency in the event of an Electoral tie, each member does not get a vote. Each state gets 1 vote, so just because one party has a majority does not necessarily mean that party will win. Please know your facts before posting comments.

Thanks for correcting me. I forgot the part about one vote per state. So, to determine the outcome, you would have to look at the make-up of each state delegation to see if it was majority Dem or GOP. Don't have time now -- but I probably will before long -- just in case Tim is prophetic again.

Hillary Supporters thinking about voting for John McCain:

Just a few reminders about his positions over the years:

    (1) He voted to impeach Bill Clinton - your candidate's husband.
    (2) He voted for he use of torture (water boarding).
    (3) He has consistently voted and stood against women's right to choose.
    (4) He wants to continue on in Iraq as long as necessary.

If you decide you would much rather support your own party's nominee, Barack Obama,. please come join us! You will be welcomed with respect and friendship!
