RIP, big boy. Condolences to all. But what makes him worthy of such an overblown, hyperbolic, self-indulgent obituiary by the liberal media elite? Why is he better that the uncounted number of saintly, self-less persons that passed away on the very same day? Because the the liberal media elite will never miss an opportunity to blow their own self-important, biased, politically-motivated horn. Objective journalism in the USA is an historical relic. He was a champion of the Liberal Propaganda Machine. Again, sorry for his family. But a more biased liberal shill never there was. Rest assured there will be an even-more biased liberal shill to replace him.

The likes of disgruntled HughLongfellow are not fit to carry the likes of Tim Russert's shoes. He offers a stark contrast to the good and decent man that Tim Russert was. God bless you Tim. Pray for all of us and especially people like HughmorlessLongfellow.

Mr. Meacham, thank you for this article. I admire your work. As a product of a Sisters of Mercy/Jesuit education, I know absolutely the foundation upon which Mr. Russert's life's work is based. I only wish I had used mine as effectively as Mr. Russert. Please excuse my response here at a time when we should be reflecting on this man's contribution to humanity. Let me be blunt with HughLongfellow's comment: you have no clue about the most important aspect of Mr. Russert's character: his humanity. Out of respect for Mr. Russert, his family and his many friends, I'll not say what I really think of people like you. For someone to make this liberal vs. conservative is asinine. You use the phrase "objective journalism" as though you have an idea of what that is. And, "hyperbolic, self-indulgent obituary" suggests that what is being said is not true and that Mr. Russert was involved with any of this. You would not know objectivity it if it jumped up and bit you on the backside. On the other hand, I would say you have a real handle on self-indulgence. It is apparent that you have issues, emotional issues, that need to be addressed. You should go seek out help. May I also suggest that you change your online name to HughMoron.

Tim Russert in my opinion had a wonderful personality, the type of personality you not only like to see in the world journalists but in the public eye. Yes, I'm sorry to see him go, he was a great example for many. I never met him but he was the kind of man if I had the chance I would've been honored to shake his hand.

My condolences to the Russert family. They lost a husband, father, and son. We lost the best journalist on television. I commend NBC for dedicating this past weekend, and still, to Tim's legacy. Anyone who has watched Tim, and some of the others on differtent channels, know that he was by far the Best. He simply did his job. He was never arrogant or boring. He was fair and he was a pro. R.I.P. Tim You are sorely missed.

My heart goes out to Tim's family. They lost a husband, father , and son. We lost a great journalist, friend, all-time good guy. Meet the Press is never going to be the same again. I hope, in respect for him, tht this
program continues in the same vein, as it was with Tim there. No, we will never have another Tim Russert but I'm sure that wherever he is he's rooting for that show. I am deeply saddened by this man's death at so young an age. R.I.P Tim. You've gone Home.

ben nevis @ 06/16/2008 7:26:35 AM Comment: "We can be sure of one thing, Tim is in HEAVEN and preparing to interview GOD". In addition, I can imagine Tim is now talking and smiling in front of a bunch of welcoming worshippers in heaven, saying that his passing has made the greatest news in the world on the day happened to be Friday the thirteenth. Also, there is always a bad side and good side of a story, the bad side is the world has lost a sharp news icon, the good side is that my death happened so fast, which has achieved a great saving in medical cost and human suffering.

A truly great government representative in the media. A real credit to the agency!

One thing's for sure. When we get to heaven, there will dam sure be something good to watch on TV Sunday Morning.

Tim Russert was a true jurnalist. Tim new how to report the news and not just give off the wall personal oppinions. If Tim reported it you knew it was true. He never feed us meaningless gossip and he never reported based on what he thought would get good ratings. Tim we will miss you forever.

Tears came to my eyes as I watched Dan Rather announce the terrible news. It still seems unbelievable. I would just like to say that it is because of people like Tim Russert, Barack Obama, and Chuck Todd, (whom Tim just recruited to the NBC team a little over a year and a half ago) that I now have an interest in politics. My heartfelt prayers go out to his wife, father, and most of all his son. I am glad he got the chance to see Luke graduate from college. The world of politics will never be the same without Tim Russert. He was the moderator whose mission was to hold the candidates and political leaders accountable to their words and to reveal the truth to the American people. Far few television stations sought out for the truth. Many are just worried about "hot topics" for the day and rumors instead of facts. I felt as if I knew Tim Russert. If me and so many others at home felt this way about someone I have never even met, says an awful lot about his character. I can't even imagine how the family at NBC must feel right now. One thing I do know is that is looking down on them now saying "go get em!" His legacy must live on. If they haven't already, all journalists, from the day he passed on forward, will feel somewhat obligated to report the facts. I can't even picture this years' debates and election without him. To show that his work was not done in vain, I know the team at NBC will carry on spreading his message. He will be deeply missed.

Several years ago I met and spoke with Tim Russert for less than two minutes. In those few seconds, his character just seemed to bubble out. He was the neighbor you'd love to have, the mentor you wish you had, and the friend that you always wanted.

To Tim's wife, son, father and his many friends, not being a religious man, I'm unable to offer the warmth of prayer. I can only offer unconditional, kind, and warm thoughts in your time of sorrow. May your memories of Tim always be like he seemed to be in life.....warm, funny, intense and living "large".

It is not often that a television personality makes more than a blip on the horizon of my life but in losing Tim Russert in such an untimely way, I feel there will be a "hole" in my life and our family. He felt like a part of the family as we listened to his wisdom and enjoyed his take on the political scene -our teenage son learned along side us from this inciteful, genuine human being. I am of his generation and truly related to his relationship with his father and his son. Our sadness at his loss can not touch that of his family and his friends and the NBC family who were lucky enough to know him personally but I hope that it helps to knw there are so many of us in the general public thinking of all of you at your time of such great loss. Today is A Father's day for all of us. I felt for Tim's dad who must going through a lot. Tim was the greatest guy in the Meet the Press. I really miss his smiles and his shining eyes. My family going to miss him. We send our deepest sympathy to his family and MSNBC. God Bless.

Everything I know about politics I learned from watching Meet the Press these last 17 years. Before that I was merely a loud-mouthed ill-informed babyboomer / 60s protestor. I feel like I've lost a part of my life. Because Russert gave so much of himself, I am convinced there will be someone to replace him, and eventually aspire to his ideals.

This marks the loss of a true legend. Tim deeply loved his family, his friends, his work....he just loved LIFE and you saw it in his face and attitude every single day. He was intelligent, intuitive, engaging, genuine and always prepared As a journalist, he had set the bar very high for those who try to follow in his footsteps. Who can we turn to now to help us navigate through this political season and those to come? He will be missed.
