some pretty innapropriate comments from Hugh over here...regardless of YOUR perceptions, this article was intended to eulogize a man in a particular context, and thats all. Whether or not you agree with his politics, or the vehicle in which is was delivered is irrelevant. Your comments reflect the underlying hostility and intolerance that I find so pervasive in 'conservative' thought....shame on you 'Hugh', and RIP Mr. Russert

Mr Meacham, I always enjoyed your participation on Meet the Press - so thank you for this lovely article.

You do credit to one who did credit to us all.

Comment: My condolences to the Russert family and all that worked with him. Tim was a man that could be trusted. What ever he told us you knew it was the truth. Or he pressured his guests until he got the truth out of them. He will be deeply missed. I don't know what I'm going to do with the election time . I alway wait for his opinions on what is happening. I will really miss him. My heart just aches for his wife, son and dad . tgthis

Jon, Well done. Thanks for your comments on Tim Russert and his Catholicism roots. It defined who he was and it was this essense of him with which I connected most. As I grow older I realize that their are lives you never forget and deaths that leave holes in your own life. Tim Russert was one of these. He will be missed.

To the Russert family and all of the NBC family, our heartfelt condolences go out to you in this time of profound loss. As a fan of politics, I made the Tim Russert show and Meet the Press a staple of my Saturdays & Sundays, and thanks in large part to Mr. Russert my wife for the first time has been engaged in the political process. She called me in tears when she heard the news yesterday. His was a true American story and he set an outstanding example of fatherhood, journalism and truth gathering from our political leaders. I can only imagine what it would have been like to know him as a friend. While I confess to be a proud democrat, I often watch everyone from Keith Olbermann to Sean Hannity - but when I wanted to find the true center regardless of who I was rooting for, I listened carefully to everything Tim Russert said.

He was a great a treasure to this nation and will be deeply missed by this family.

As a political junkie, I I totally loved this man. There is no one in broadcast journalism who even comes close to Tim Russert. How can we even have the general election without him? And as a Christian, what an example he is of living your faith in an authentic way. God bless the soul of Tim Russert. Thank you, God, for his wonderful life and shining example.

I guess God wanted better election coverage...well, he's got the very best now.
But where will the rest of us get honest news coverage now....sigh.
    God Speed Mr. Russert

I am a Buffalo native & attended Canisius High School (Class of 1966 - two years ahead of Tim.) The root of the Canisius term "jug" is the Latin word "jugum", which translates to "yoke", not "yolk" as indicated in your otherwise sterling tribute. Perhaps someone has already noted this erratum - probably some former student,, like me, gratefully inculcated by the Jesuits with a healthy attention to accuracy, particularly regarding etymology. Buffalo may have not won the football Super Bowl (Yet - that one's for you, Timmy!!) but the city & environs triumphed in the Super Bowl of Class Acts in the person of one Timothy J. Russert. We'll wear your memory on our collective sleeve in the same manner as you wore your love for Buffalo & its residents on yours. Requiescat in pace.........Amen.

    as it relates to etymology.

What a beautiful article about a beautiful man. Nice job.

TV & politics will never be the same without him. He will be so missed. My heart is heavy with this loss.

    Jesus said, "Come to me, all you that are weary and carrying heavy burdens, And I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; For I am gentle and humble in heart; and you will find rest for your souls;
for my yoke is easy, and my burden light."

God has him now, Tim, may you be at peace.

he is so impressive that every common person understands what he wants to express to people in a very easy way of expression for very complicated matters! He is really a great genius in press field all around the world.
It is difficult for us to understand why his doctor didn't do the same great job as Tim Russert finding his illness earlier. Tim???s doctor is an internist, not a specialist in cardiology, so why didn't Tim Russert go to more than one doctors to have a complete check from different angles by different specialists? Are these great valuable people like Tim to the nation of USA worth of going to different doctors to have different checks? Is that strange saying "flip-flop" in politics affecting the normal behaviors of great people like Tim Russert for freely changing his/her doctors?
The doctor seemed paying too much attention to politics, such as Physicians for Human Rights, and other matters related to politics around the world, it seemed that Tim's doctor is not a great physician, but a great politician, ask him how much new techniques has he learned from his colleagues? Doctors should be more advanced in techniques, rather than in politics which will deviate his energy a lot from his physician career!!!

A truly huge loss for the world. Politics will not be the same with out Russerts straight-forwardness and determination to give the public what it deserves; the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. I looked up to him in my teenage years, I look up to him now as poly sci major.
Tim, "it seems like we hardly knew you. We love you, and we miss you."
