he could say anything, flip flop all day long and it would still be okay with the Obama "blind ones". As stil a Hillary supporter who will not vote for a loser again in the general. I am now an ind not a dem as of Wed ater he said he was the winner. I will vote against Obama. Four years of McCain is really not that bad then voting for an empty suit.

I am glad they brought up the fact that the system does not work perfectly. As an employee of a hospital system that is switching to a paperless system, I see the problems every day. There is a lot of work that needs to be done to perfect the software and its ability to communicate with other systems. It should also be pointed out that ALL of the additional privately owned ancillary medical professions (O.T's, P.T.'s, Orthotists, Prosthetists, Nursing homes, etc) will need to be part of this as well, not just physicians, pharmacies and
hospitals. Most of these private facilities are small and may not be able to afford the burden of paperless software systems.

i dont understand why this article is sort of "accusing" of obama of misleading. someone has to set the wheels in motion and set up an environment to make the transfer to electronic records possible.

nothing happens overnight, and i applaud obama for taking this by the horns and making it the cornerstone of his candidacy.

    • Posted By: citron16 @ 06/17/2008 3:07:55 PM

Clinton's health care plan would be much better, even Mrs. Edwards said that!!!

  • Posted By: unitedwestand03 @ 06/17/2008 7:47:50 AM

raddave.....are you honestly in the military cause if you were you would probably know about a 201 File...cause I'm pretty sure that isn't completely electronic...I still think you carry that as your personnel records because it's paper.

    • Posted By: raddave @ 06/17/2008 11:14:07 AM

Actually the 201 file has pretty much gone away. The only things in it now are items that have to have a signature on it for legal purporses, such as SGLI forms and emergency notification records. Every other item in our records is electronic. Even evaluation reports are prepared, signed and submitted electronically.

      • Posted By: unitedwestand03 @ 06/17/2008 11:59:07 AM

Then why do you still carry the 201 to SRP or any form of mobilization. Why does it contain all the information about your entire medical life in the army.

        • Posted By: raddave @ 06/17/2008 2:53:56 PM

And since you said "mobilization" I assume you either were or are a reservist?

I have several questions for the editors of Newsweek regarding this story: why is Newsweek simply reprinting the article from factcheck.org without doing any investigating or "fact checking" themselves? I ask this because factcheck.org is not always non partisan or correct. Mediamatters has reported on several factcheck.org stories that factcheck.org had to admit weren't completely factual and/or were misleading and/or misstated dsetails(http://mediamatters.org/items/200802140013?f=s_search,http://mediamatters.org/items/200610300009?f=s_search,http://mediamatters.org/items/200609220002 to name a few). It would also be very interesting to know the political affiliation or preferences of the people quoted in the article. Finally, why didn't you also print the factcheck.org articles that debunks McCain's entire budget plan(http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/the_budget_according_to_mccain_part_i.html,http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/the_budget_according_to_mccain_part_ii.html). Let's keep it "balanced"....

    • Posted By: Zombiehero @ 06/16/2008 8:51:50 PM

They did post McCains budget about two weeks ago. So why you still complaining? Media only biased when its not in favour of Obama?

      • Posted By: e.nigma57 @ 06/17/2008 2:35:47 PM

First of all, I didn't see the story two weeks ago and that is part of the nature of my comments. To your point implying I only think the media is biased when in favor of Obama, that statement completely misrepresents what I actually said and is about as ridiculous as something I would expect from a Limbaugh or Hannity. Far from implying or even suggestion the bias you assert, I made two things very clear, first, factcheck.org is not always right and that applies to both parties, although they seem to err more on the dem side. Second, in light of factcheck.org not always being correct and at times seeming to show a bias, I made specific reference to knowing the affiliation of the reporters because without knowing that, the question of political bias goes unanswered. Beyond that, I question why both articles wouldn't be printed on the same day or at least within a day or two. A side by side comparison would do much to eliminate the perception of bias in the reporting and would provide a much more balanced way to realistically assess both candidates economic policies. So, considering my goal and point were about keeping it "balanced" for both sides and the contradiction between my actual comments and your response, what are YOU complaining about?

Remember both Hillary and McCain wanted to save Americans a whopping 30$ for the summer months by lifting a "gas tax" that would have then cost hundreds of thousnds of Americans their jobs. Now that's "frivolous"...

        • Posted By: GustoMaybe @ 06/16/2008 9:34:32 PM

HDavidson once again you know nothing. Stimulus would have been available to those willing to travel largely within the US by car this summer. Thus incenting folks to stop "staycationing". Instead now we have a bunch of friviolous people like yourself thinking we'll give another "tax cut" to working class people and let them spend it how they please. End result is a decline in the dollar and an increase in cost of living to all those strapped Americans who buy imports (see Wal-Mart). But hey at least this time you have a bunch of silly Nobel Economists in your corner. The gas tax is the best stimulus plan going and will have no effect on adoption of longer term green solutions.

Senator Obama's health care team is either poorly informed or purposely misleading the American public. Yes, we all want cheaper, more available, effective health care. Do I believe his plan will deliver it? No way. One may want to vote for him for many reasons, but solving health care problems should not be one of them.

  • Posted By: paulte @ 06/17/2008 11:50:30 AM

Like duh, why aren't medical records already electronic? There is no need to revamp the whole system. Most people are satisfied with the health care system as it is. There will always be a group of people which will need govt help and won't be able to pay it back. That's the safety net.

You can't force people to buy health insurance in a free society but you can penalize those who end up getting government help when they could have afforded health insurance. It's called the IRS. Anyone who ever gets govt help for medical services will never receive a tax refund until they pay back every cent.

As far as the working poor, the govt could offer subsidized health insurance to them.

So you have the four groups:

    1) people currently covered by health insurance who need no govt assistance

    2) people who could afford health insurance but don't buy it who would be required to pay back any govt assistance they receive through the IRS

    3) the working poor who will be able to get govt subsidized health insurance

    4) the poor who will be covered by a safety net

The money the govt pays for the safety net and the subsidized part of the working poor insurance is the total the govt should have to spend.

  • Posted By: summer1216 @ 06/17/2008 11:24:42 AM

It is clear that we can have a health-care system that covers everyone and is billed efficiently for less money that we spend today. (see "Healthcare, Guaranteed: A Simple, Secure Solution for America" by Ezekiel Emanuel.) However, I can see various possible reasons for not presenting an idea this new in the middle of a campaign. Obama has to get elected first before he can bring about the changes he promises to make.

    • Posted By: citron16 @ 06/17/2008 11:33:37 AM

Polititions make all kinds of promises to get elected and then once they get elected nothing happens!!!! Obama if elected will forget all his promises just like the rest of them.

  • Posted By: Obama Drama @ 06/17/2008 11:29:57 AM

Obama has said many changes since he got the nomination. It is like he tricked people into voting for him on these issues and promises and now he is saying totally dif promises. Iraq being one major- now he says 16 months at least before he will get out- what is that about? His hiring of Hillary's ex campain manger that Patty Solis Doyles? Seriously? What's up with that? She was fired for srewing Hillary - was that a plan with Patty and Obama? I think more than a news plimp is in needed here.

  • Posted By: amendment2man @ 06/17/2008 10:48:05 AM

I love the allegorical and symbolic way that the obama supporters express themselves. it accurately reflects their candidates orientation as he also speaks in allegorical generalities.

you cannot get past the fact that obama is of a very Left Liberal philosophy. Most of America is moderate right leaning. He tries to temper his true self(super liberal) to appeal to the majority yet when they do not fall in line then they are labled as "bitter" and "clinging to the wrong issues". well my friend these issues define a candidate and are factors which will be deciding points for those voters. obama is saying that things shich are important to these people shouldnt be??!! this means that he really has no emphaty to others who do not see it his way. I am afraid that this is not the mechanism on which democracy is built.

If 75% of the people care about these issues then who is he to discount their desire for a matched government. super liberals will NEVER appeal to the right of middle majority. The press and his supporters try to deflect this by making it a race issue instead of the true issues which exist. Its not about race it is about; Issues, philosophies as well as obama's glaring lack of presence and experience on the world stage as well as his voting records which are party line all the way(extreme left Liberal).

its not race its experience. the voters are not bitter just oriented diffrently. rhetoric can only go so far before concrete action is needed to back it up. obama is not prepared nor does he have the substance to be President of the US.

  • Posted By: Jack999 @ 06/17/2008 10:22:10 AM

Obama understand the roots of the Evils Policy, his very practical solutions and step of the Future of America in long run. You're Smart thinker Obama.Yes Our Country are now being diagnoised with CANCER.We need a smart "Research Team" to eliminate this Problems at its root cause to tackle its existence for ever just not a loser temporary solution.

  • Posted By: amendment2man @ 06/17/2008 10:20:15 AM

obviously obama is embellishing and promising things that he cannot deliver. His empty promises and rhetoric can be barely differentiated from Clinton. Mccain demonstrates better judgement due to his presence over 25 years in gov't. Mccain knows the process in implementing policy and it is not so simple as a wave of the hand as obama has promised.

He really appeals to the idealistic non experienced segment of the population who really don't have an understanding of the legislative process. I really think these people think that the President is a dictator who waves his hand and makes it so.

look at the clintons promises in the 90's. we were supposed to have this health care thing done by now! what happened? NOTHING. their campaign theme was also '"change"; The only thing bill changed was the reputation of the US from tough and unbeatable to cowardly and afraid.

obama is a real SALESMAN. Tell you what you want hear, after you buy its too late.

    vote John Mccain

    HE REALLY DOES SUCK LESS

We do not know if his plan will work in the stated time especially since Doctors, major pharmaceutical firms and journalist who maintain the status quo along with a great many political figures, will stand in the way of change. Many of Obamas' policies will have to be hard fought, because many want things to stay the same. We need to purge the systems of these antiquated Neanderthals before change can come about.
