The special interest money for McCain hasn't come in yet, but it will. Why do you assume that it won't? Your article is based on this assumption. McCain hasn't been exactly clean about all the private fianancing of his general election campaigning that has been going on for months while Hillary and Barack were contesting in the Primary. Since the Republican convention comes last, McCain can continue to privately fund his general election campaign with private funds longer than Obama can. Why don't you write a balanced article about these factors?

FREEAMERICA: THIS IS NOT A STORY ABOUT MCCAIN, QUIT TRYING TO DIVERT ATTENTION FROM THE TOPIC, THIS IS A STORY ABOUT OBAMA BEING A LIAR,...STAY ON TOPIC

And bloggers, Obama has a staff of 300 PAID bloggers, so when you see people on here attacking McCain on an article about Obama it is most likely them, one of their tactics is to try and divert attention away from negative publicity about Obama, and look at the reponses, they don't want to talk about his lie, they want to talk about the war? Here, right now, that's not what we're talking about. Obama's integrity is in question.

RDOMINGUEZ - FACT - 1.7% confirmed comes from lobbyists. Obama didn't say it was more - he just said the funds came from lobbyists - and that is true, per the fact! HELLO? THIS IS NOT A LIE!

Moron! If I put one ounce of water in the fuel tank of your car and then kfill the rest with gasoline, is your car "fueled" (ie: the motive force provided by) the water or the gasoline? Obama's comments were calculated, inflammatory, and inaccurate, just like he has accused his opponent of using. Both candidates are POLITICIANS!!! The real question voters must answer is which lying, conniving, self-absorbed, out-of-touch peckerwood do you want in the White House.

      Wow, this is funny RDominquez.

You can actually go to each candidate's site and find out who REALLY has the campaign to flood the blogosphere with paid bloggers, and I'll give you a hint, it's not Obama.

Here's a link where you can sign up to be one of McCain's bloggers. LOL.

You just sent me a video that says Obama wants to pursue an aggressive agreement for public financing reform. There is no proof that an agreement was reached. Still all we have is "he said/she said" thing, which, in politics, means jack squat.

And the guy narrating the video is anything but unbiased. Come on now!!!!

YOU SEE IT'S NOT A QUESTION OF JOHN MCCAIN BEING GUILTY OF A CRIME, ITS A CASE OF POOR JUDEGMENT. ADD THAT TO THE FACT THAT JOHN MCCAIN CANNOT EVEN USE A COMPUTER AND GO FROM THERE. QUITE CLEARLY, THE MAN IS NOT QUALIFIED TO RUN THE GREATEST NATION ON THE PLANET.

I mean give me a break stop making such a big deal out of this. Obama has 1. 6 million Americans donating $100 $50 $25. Thats a form of public financing. His money is coming from grassroots support stop making this such a big thing.

ruthella10 this is exactly the kind of idiotic liberal idealogy that's going to ruin this country... all you do is complain about problems and have no solutions. Obama's economic agenda is not gona get us out of this downturn it's only going ot make it worse ... but librals like yourself are to blind to see it.

  • Posted By: ruthella10@aol @ 06/20/2008 2:53:24 PM

i find if very funny that the Republicans cant seem to win a fight unless their opponent has their hands tied behind their back. Dirty pieces of you know what. I am with Obama...you GOP pricks hate it when they get beat at their own game. Get ready for some more, because you unpatriotic, greedy, incompetent, butholes are going to "reap the whirlwind." PS. Hope you like getting kicked when your down!

  • Posted By: Prt10 @ 06/20/2008 2:52:48 PM

I think it is too bad Obama had to change his position. But seriously he HAD too - the money gives him so many more options. In the past the Democrats have been dwarfed by the Republican money and now they can turn that around it. It is unfortunate that he has to change - but it would be even more unfortunate if he turned down a situation that can help him win the election.

  • Posted By: Truthinstructor @ 06/20/2008 1:11:47 PM

The fact that he renegged on a prior commitment and will be the first candidate since Watergate to opt-out is bad enough, but his utterly lame blame McCain game raises serious questions as to his integrity, which once was his strongest suit.

    • Posted By: chindognyc @ 06/20/2008 1:23:58 PM

You know the truth. You know why McCain wanted Obama to accept public financing. You know about the 527. Give me a break. He never broke his word. Read the letter.

      • Posted By: ara9557 @ 06/20/2008 2:49:50 PM

Brother, you have drank too much kool-aid! You can't defend a lie with more lies. If you want to believe him that is okay. He is slick in his decision and should be saluted for it, but the lame excuse should not.

    • Posted By: jplatypuss @ 06/20/2008 1:18:21 PM

Though in fact Mr McCain committed a crime in switching from private to public financing and then back again in the primaries.

  • Posted By: USA4life @ 06/20/2008 2:47:53 PM

I agree with what Obama has done. He and his advisors clearly understand that he will need way more money to win certain states that are primarily republican states..His goal is to be able to fairly campaign in those areas that he is projected to not do so well..McCain and his advisors are upset because Obama will be able to clearly out campaign him in his own backyard..McCain was content with the idea of public funding because he knew no matter what..he would win those key states...Obama has way more money to use for advertising and campaigning and will be able to more effectively get his point across to those people who have not made up their minds and targeting the disgrunted repubs that may switch. That fund would have limited each candidate to roughly 84 mil a piece..and everyone knows..if you want to beat a McBush and get the repubs out of office..you are going to need way more money than that..lets start with 300Mill and counting! advantage Barak Obama.

Once again the barack Obama and the Obama campaign are doing what they said was so bad about politics in Washington - attempting to make their opponent the bad guy with false and misleading information. How is that going to change the way business is done in Washington?
How do you get away from the partisan polarization by fueling it?
This election is an opportunity to take the high road as stated or do what has always been done and it will show us if there is a real effort to bring change or if this effort is just a ploy, a sham really being perpetrate by a shameful politician with no shame.

    • Posted By: justthefactsplease @ 06/20/2008 1:25:28 PM

just jerry - Barack is only talking about what is invetiable regarding these 527 groups. Sure their not out there now but just wait til fall they'll be everywhere and I guarantee McCain will do nothing to stop it. Taking the high road doesn't work as we've seen before i.e. John Kerry. Obama is doing what he needs to do to get to the Whitehouse and I appauld him for doing so. It's about time someone hedges these swiftboat attacks before they being. That's "just me" anyway.

      • Posted By: kgibson20 @ 06/20/2008 2:47:25 PM

Until Obama is in office he's going to have to play the game the way it is set up or he will be detroyed come November. It would be a little silly to say now I'm voting for McCain because Obama acting like a typical politician. They represent two different sets of ideas. If he's voted in and doesn't follow through with his promise by at least trying, than look for another option, just as people should have done with Bush after his first term. My guess is that Jerry is probably just a McCain supporter trying to cast doubt to people that haven't made up their minds yet

...probably, looking up the word 'semantics' or 'truth'

  • Posted By: Sillmyril @ 06/20/2008 2:46:08 PM

Thanks Newsweek, now I KNOW you have no pretense of objectivity and I will totally ignore any and all links to you and hope your advertisers suffer the consequences as millions of Obama voters do the same.

  • Posted By: cromagnan @ 06/20/2008 2:45:35 PM

Hey wearthem, Is it a lie that people feel better supporting OBAMA? No it is true, we feel better with him than with Bush. Until OBama gives us a reason not to like him, we agree with what he says and want our country to be in a better place with finances, foreign trade, military might and so on. When we think of MCCAIN as our leader, we get a bit depressed. That is why he will LOSE.

  • Posted By: FreeAmerica @ 06/20/2008 2:45:19 PM

    and RDOMINGUEZ disappears...hmmmm

  • Posted By: Lionidze @ 06/20/2008 2:44:20 PM

The Newsweek article fails to mention that the RNC has more than $50,000,000 in hand to run against Obama than the DNC has for a similar purpose against McCain. That will be added to McCain's public funds. And $19,000,000 of the DNC money can be controlled by McCain's campaign. The rest the DNC can spend asit designates. The Republicans have had more money for the presidential campaign in all recent elections. Obama is simply leveling the playing field and of course everyone is getting upset. But it will be nice to see a Democrat in a financial position to challenge the Republican warchest for a change.

Yes, this brings him equal to every other politician in the History of the World who changes his mind when it favors his goals.
Yes, all politicians are self-involved hypocrites who are the least qualified creatures in the multiverse to rule us.
However, I like Obama's lies of positive change more than McCain's promises of a century of Middle Eastern blood and war.
