Obama will say anything to get into the White House. His supporters say, "Well he's just doing what he needs to do," BUT that's TODAY, and TODAY his lie was strategy, but what makes you think if the man was to win, he wouldn't LIE to you his supporters!?!? And take back some of the things he's promised you??? And try to rationalize it in a similar way??? WAKE UP! He's a liar, he'll lie to anyone to get where he wants to be, and one day, if he were to win ( I don't see it happening) BUT if he did, he'll be lying to you, his loyal supporters who "BELIEVE" in him. SO WAKE UP! HE'S A LIAR! DON'T VOTE FOR THIS MAN!!!!

In addition, a major part of the RNC fund raising machine is made up of "bundlers" who get donations from groups of corporate employees. In many cases, this is really just another way for corporations to make donations, and I'm quite sure that the Lobbyists point this out when they ask for favors.
a vast majority of Mr Obama's donations come from small independent contributors much of it sent over the internet, not "bundlers".

Good write up. Love your info jplatypuss

Finally, this can all be summed up by this snippet from an article in the New York Times today:

"Each political party can also raise and spend money to support its candidate. Donors can give up to $28,500 to party committees, as well as often-unlimited amounts to 527s, nonprofits and a bevy of other committees that exist outside the formal party structure, to influence the election."

While individual donors can only contribute around $3,000 to individual candidates, they can contribute nearly $30,000 each to the RNC or the DNC.
Which means that lobbyists can easily just throw the money to the party rather than the candidate, and still have the same net effect.
They were probably waiting to see if Mr Obama would fall for the "Public Funding" line, We should start to see a large amount of large donations enter the RNC coffers in the near future.

As long as the Republicans can rely on 527's and other PAC's to launch destructive attack ads and what-not, the system is broken and can't be fixed. It's not so much they give money to McCain; they fuel McCain's campaign machine by their despicable smear tactics and actions, not by money they may directly contribute.

It's funny how shallow a so-called news organization digs for the truth!

McCain has flip-floped about this issue. McCain knew he could not match the same amount that Obama can make and he wanted Obama to accept public financing so that Obama would only be limited to a certain amount of funds. Then McCain would use the Republican's war chest that has more then the DNC could think of. McCain also has the help of the 527. I don't blame Obama. If you read the note he wrote, you would see that he still did what he said he would do. You guys really need to get your information correct. You people who have been dogging Obama since day one will not change the mind of the voters. They know how the Republican machine works and everybody knew about the 527. If Obama accepted that deal, it would have been easy street for McCain.

    • Posted By: Debunked @ 06/20/2008 1:27:55 PM

Obama already have his 527 groups or should I say support groups attacking McCain. Your argument is weak. The truth of the matter is simple----Obama changed his mind once he saw that he could raise more money with private funding that public funding. It is that simple! All he has to do is say so instead of coming up with lame reasonings. Honestly, I can't blame him, he just need to be real about it!

The fact that Obama changed his mind isn't much of a concern to the McCain camp, I don't think. They knew he was. But they also saw that even though Obama outspent Clinton like crazy and had way more money than her, he could not put her down. After the February contests, people started to slowly wake up and they sent a strong message to Obama and the DNC and that message was WE CANT BE BOUGHT!
Unfortunately, the Democratic Party has shown that they can.

McCain is jumping on this to show that Obama is nothing but a typical politician who will do and say what he feels is necessary the same as everyone else. They are outlining Obama. After Obama is the official nominee, McCain and the 527 will begin to define Obama! Obama is making it easy because he continues to make such huge gaffes. He is giving them the ammunition they need!

Obama has no real record or accomplishments. All he have is his rhetoric, that is his credibility. The credibility is out the window when he does TOTALLY opposite of what he preaches! And it appears that he is the king of saying one thing and doing another.

Let's get one thing straight right off the bat: Barack Obama was right to opt out of public financing for his campaign. Had he not done so, he would have limited himself to spending just over $80 million in the months leading up to November, compared with a potentially much larger amount he will be able to raise from his supporters. It would have been, at the very least, an attempted political suicide.

Still, the rationale he gave in the video in which he announced the move was, pure and simple, spin. And the facts in at least one part of his argument, which has since been picked up throughout the left, were -- at best -- questionable.

"We face opponents who've become masters at gaming this broken system," Obama said. "And we've already seen that [John McCain is] not going to stop the smears and attacks from his allies running so-called 527 groups, who will spend millions and millions of dollars in unlimited donations."

Look, this won't convince the baiters, the haters and those generally frothing at the mouth but..

As one of those million and a half small donors..

I'm GLAD he's not taking public financing. When he started out no one thought he was going to win..really, not even him.

No one had any idea that we, the American public, were going to get behind him to this extent, no not even him.

No one anywhere predicted that Americans would reach into their own pockets to help him NOT take PAC and Washington Lobbyist Money and still make a credible run for president. And shatter EVERY fund raising record in the process.

To say that many Americans are "personally invested" in this campaign is not a piece of rhetoric, we are literally.

But guess what, liberals have indeed learned a thing or two both about and from the Republican Hate Machine. This year we are pragmatic, practical, and GOING TO WIN.

We don't care if the smears fly..period. We are now so used to the Republican Hate Machine, that we just won't believe ANYTHING Republicans say, they are the boys who cried wolf one too many times. Obama will not lose votes between now and the election based on idiocy..you watch.

We don't care if he Outspends McCain a million to one, we will finance it.

We wouldn't care if his wife really was an angry black woman who's not too proud of her country right now. Many of us are angry..bitter..and not too damn proud of this country right now either. This does not mean that we do not LOVE our country, it means you can love someone and still know that they're acting like an idiot.

(And for anyone who thinks everything is going so damn dandy here in the good ole U.S. of A. maybe you should march your happy butt down and sign up for military duty. I hear it offers exciting travel opportunities.)

America is sick of a Republican party that has betrayed it's own values and all of the rest of us, a party that is OK with torture, with suspending habeus corpus, with politically motivated firings in the judicial branch, with no-bid contracts to the vice presidents company, with $4 gallon gas, that could have been prevented, or at least begun to be dealt with at some point over the last eight years, with TWO WARS while they are trying to start a third, with endless lies that led us into a tragically unecessary war and killed and injured almost 50,000 American solidiers, with running up a trade deficit so huge, and a deficit so big that they are unimaginable, and de-regulating the entire lending industry to create a "housing bubble" that made the economy look like it was doing fine..until it fell apart.

So Hurray Obama..Keep that advantage, defeat John McCain..hell defeat EVERY REPUBLICAN IN CONGRESS..Depose EVERY Republican Governor. Period. We have seen the face of the terorists amongst us, and they are holding the sensible, old fashioned values part of the Republican party and middle America hostage to FEAR..Neo-cons SUCK.

How much lobbyist money in the RNC??????
This is lame fact check at its best!!!!

    • Posted By: jplatypuss @ 06/20/2008 1:16:44 PM

Technically their correct. But only technically.
They don't count money "bundled" by lobbyists or corporate representatives as being PAC or Lobbyist money. Go Figure.

  • Posted By: letterhead @ 06/20/2008 1:15:06 PM

But, the fact that Obama is choosing to do this IS change... and it's a reaction to the amount of support... Much unexpected support.. that his campaign has received. The republican's attempt at making this a negative thing is ridiculous, and looks like nothing more than saying "Not fair! We can't raise that kind of money." Why's that McCain? Because people don't believe in you enough to support you.

  • Posted By: jplatypuss @ 06/20/2008 1:07:29 PM

The Republican machine will be relying on the following:
    1. McCain's fund raising
    2. The RNC fund raising
    and
    3. 527 groups sponsored by PAC's and private big money funding (swiftboaters)

The RNC has already raised a much greater amount than the DNC, and the National committees are not bound by Public Financing if the nominees choose to use it.
Thus this whole issue is a farce. Both Mr Obama and the RNC have proven ability to raise money, the DNC and Mr McCain do not. Therefore Mr Obama abviously needs to use private funding sources to keep up with the RNC funds.
In addition, the reason for using public financing in the first place is to reduce the influence of PAC and Lobbyist money on the candidates through donations. As neither Mr Obama or Mr McCain are receiving such moneys in any large amounts, there is no point to public financing in this particular campaign.

Is anyone surprised that the candidate of change and new politics continues to STRETCHHHHHH the truth and outright lie?

Obama is weakening his own campaign by showing that he is nothing but an old school politician. Say what you want about McCain but he isn't the one who is saying he is going to change Washington!

The MSM has allowed Obama to get away with just about everything that he is now very comfortable with lying, stretching the truth and not living up to his campaign theme. However, I dont think he's realizing that all he is doing is giving the 527's much ammunition. When those massive attack ads start rolling, the MSM will have no choice but to address it!

Obama and many of his supproters are all happy now, just wait until he becomes the OFFICIAL nominee.......

From one concerned citizen of U.S.A,

Dear American Voters, reporters, media. professionals, political parties, and presidential Nominees,

Hon. Senator McCain and Obama, besides each having many attributes and characteristics.

The critical differences between the two of these presidential presumptive nominees in my opinion are as under:

    1. Presidential "Temperament and Caliber".
    2. Little Washington "insider Versus outsider" experience.
    3. "Vision and mission" for our nation future rather than past.
    4. American policies, " first U.S.A Centric" than any other country [ ies ] centric.

In my professional opinion Senator Obama leads in all above qualities and attributes.

Senator Obama and his administration along with congress will address all the critical current and future domestic and foreign issues, challenges, and opportunities in coming the years.
