I have a queston about Obama's fundraising. Just a thought. He has over 1.5 million contributors who have averaged about $100 per donation. Question: are these the kind of people who can really afford to be making donations to political campaigns, especially in these troubling economic times? It reminds me of the TV evangelists who prey on the downtrodden to support their ministries.

TYLER - The price of oil swelled to another record high Monday morning - before dropping back. It almost hit $140 a barrel - but then fell 25 cents. It appears - a recent increase in oil output from Saudi Arabia -- is not driving down crude prices. Former Speaker of the House, Newt Gingrich, who started a bipartisan group called "American Solutions for Winning the Future" held little back at the Texas Republican Convention. He wants to use American solutions to change to the U.S. energy policy.

Simply put - he's fed up with Congress: "The problem is not big oil or the foreigners," said Speaker Gingrich. "The problem is not the Saudis. The problem is getting Congress to do it's job." And that job, he says, is to start using the energy we have. "Congress outlaws every conceivable energy source," said Speaker Gingrich. Gingrich is making his case for domestic drilling by launching a campaign with Actor Chuck Norris, with the slogan: "Drill here, Drill now, Pay less." The campaign is urging Congress to do something now to bring down gas prices. Speaker Gingrich also has thoughts on speculators. "It's people who are betting the U.S. is too dumb to produce (its own oil)."

He sides with East Texas Congressman Louie Gohmert -- when it comes to speculators and drilling. "If you began selling off two million barrels a day...we can pump out of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. It would immediately bring down the price of oil." Speaker Gingrich proposes selling off half of the reserve - now. "Do it suddenly..without telling anybody in advance and punish every speculator."The very speculators, he says, that are betting against America."

I think a little more effort needs to go into examining just who Obama's supposed small donations are coming from since I read that an audit showed some of the people supposedly donating were dead and some were children. Why isn't it being investigated?

    • Posted By: Iamnotamused @ 06/21/2008 2:50:49 PM

Well you have to fill out a form every time you donate money to his campaign. Your name, number, address and you have to say you are 18 yrs. or older so if KIDS are lying where are parents? Let's try and put the ACCOUNTABILITY where it belongs...on the parents if children who are LYING about their ages.

Readers, be informed, and beware! Sam Bodman, US Energy Secretary, is a Bush appointed Yes-man. Bodman states that insufficient production is making oil prices soar. Bush wants you to think that the OPEC countries are responsible for high oil prices, but the truth is, OPEC has been significantly increasing production over the past several months. Where is all that oil going? It's being stockpiled by US investment banks, who are creating a fake shortage to drive up the price. Congress has already started to investigate this criminal practice. Bush, who has deregulated the banking industry, tries to blame it on OPEC. By now you should be familiar with Bush's MO: he says you should be very afraid of Muslims.

Who you should really be afraid of are investment bankers at Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley and Lehman Brothers. Check this out:

Michael Masters of Master Capital Management (a global investment manager) testified before the Senate Committee on Homeland Security & Government Affairs a couple of weeks ago. Quotes from his testimony:

"Today, Index Speculators are pouring billions of dollars into the commodities futures markets, speculating that commodity prices will increase. In the popular press the explanation given for rising oil prices is the increased demand from China. According to the DOE, China's demand for petroleum has increased in the last five years from 1.88 billion barrels to 2.8 billion barrels, an increase of 920 billion barrels. Over the same five year period, Index Speculators' demand for petroleum futures has increased by 848 million barrels. THE INCREASE IN DEMAND FROM INDEX SPECULATORS IS ALMOST EQUAL TO THE INCREASE IN DEMAND FROM CHINA. Index Speculators have now stockpiled, via the futures market, the equivalent of 1.1 billion barrels of petroleum, effectively adding EIGHT TIMES as much oil to their own stockpile as the US Government has added to the Strategic Petroleum Reserve over the last five years."

"The Senate has asked the question "Are Institutional Investors contributing to food and energy price inflation?" And my unequivocal answer is "YES." In this testimony I will explain that investment banks are one of, if not the primary, factors affecting commodities prices today. Clearly, there are many factors that contribute to price determination in the commodities markets; I am here to expose a fast-growing yet virtually unnoticed factor, and one that presents a problem that can be expediently corrected through legislative policy action..."

The US Commodity Futures Trading Commission is ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL. They're supposed to be protecting us from these kinds of abuses, but Bush allowed loopholes in the CFTC regulations that you can drive a truck through. An oil truck, that is.

I am beginning to have huge doubts about Obama. He only decided to not take the public funding so that he would have no limits on how much he is allowed to spend out of the several hundred million he has managed to raise from where??? If you use public funding, you have limits set and have to account for it all. The American Public needs to wake up and ask - just where did this nobody unknown come from all of a sudden and where is he getting all his money from? Look at all the derogatory remarks made by him and his wife about our country, our people and especially whites. No one would stand for someone saying those remarks about blacks or asians or even muslims. Why is he allowed to say them and then he gets applauded and nominated? I hope more people do like I did and take a second, more clear look at this man before it is too late. This is not the person we need running our country. McCain may not be the perfect person for the job either, but it's almost a case of McCain is the lessor of two evils. Think about it before it's too late and start asking the rgiht questions. Open your eyes, People!!

Community organizing has nothing to do with filling pot holes and covering graffitii. Your comment is so full of anti-social comments I really do not know where to begin. I will simply say, I pray to God, most people do not share your hate. As a community organizer Sen. Obama spent his time helping people find a place to sleep, get a hot meal and get medical attention. Could it be that you think he mostly helped black people so it really should not count.

He got ten bucks from me. If he got another ten bucks from ten million more Americans - more than that support him and this is a country of roughly three hundred million - that's a hundred million dollars. It's absolutely feasible for him to have raised 100% of his money, legitimately, from supporters - mostly in small dollar donations like mine.

Nice try with the "I am a reasonable person but I just have my doubts" approach. Unfortunately, you weren't quite good enough - a careful read of your post shows you're just another Republican trying to pretend not to be just so you can add credibility to your post.

The last time I checked, the average contribution amount for Obama was $150. His money is coming from millions of American's who believe in his message of hope. When was the last time a Republican candidate could say that ... never.

Enlighten us, will you? What derogatory remarks has Obama and his wife said about white Americans? You might persuada a few voters if you could give exact quotes and cite your source for the quotes, along with the dates. We can all use more information. Smears, however, are just given with a broad brush and somehow have little regards for facts. Open our eyes by giving us the bare facts if you can.

    • Posted By: Gdenco @ 06/20/2008 5:16:50 PM

What derogatory comments have he and Michelle Obama made about America and "our people, especially white people". Quotes please. He raised the several hundred million dollars from individual donors making multiple contributions of $25 or less. Just what about this is so hard for you to believe? One doesn't get elected a United States Senator as a "nobody unknown...all of the sudden". One earns the post. You display a shameful amount of ignorance in your post. You claim to have taken "a second, more clear look" but it's woefully apparent you're looking through a broken lens.

It sounds to me like you have always had your doubts. You really should not generalize, if you have concerns about something Sen. Obama or his wife have said, be specific so we can help you to not have your doubts. If you are talking about Mrs. Obama being proud of her country for the first time in her adult life then let me offer this: she was talking about politically, she was proud that people from all walks of life are coming together to support her husband. If you mean something else, then by all means say it.

Speaking of FEAR, Bipolarmom, here is the latest talk coming out of Obama's mouth, in which he is saying that the Republicans are going to use tactics to make us voters very scared of him, where one of his comments is (when talking himself ) is this: He is young and unexperienced, and DID I MENTION HE IS BLACK (!!!!) Whattttttttt? What is this man doing talking about RACE and FEAR due to race, when he is supposed to be the great Uniter. Here we go again. Obama stirring up the whole race talk. HERE IS an excerpt. This guy is unreal: What is really funny about this, many of the U.S. voters are ALEADY afraid of this guy, OB. It doesnt take a GOP ad campaign to make them feel that way!

Obama: 'They're going to try to make you afraid of me'
    Posted: 08:04 PM ET

From CNN Political Producer Alexander Marquardt

JACKSONVILLE, Florida (CNN) ??? Barack Obama told supporters that Republicans will ???try to make you afraid of me??? in remarks he made Friday at a Florida fundraiser.

"The choice is clear. Most of all we can choose between hope and fear. It is going to be very difficult for Republicans to run on their stewardship of the economy or their outstanding foreign policy.

???We know what kind of campaign they???re going to run,??? said the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee. ???They???re going to try to make you afraid. They???re going to try to make you afraid of me. ???He???s young and inexperienced and he???s got a funny name. And did I mention he???s black????"

In similar comments at a Chicago fundraiser last Thursday, Obama told supporters that Republicans would try to portray both him and his wife Michelle as "scary."

"They???re going to try to make me into a scary guy,??? he said last week. ???They???re even trying to make Michelle into a scary person. Right?" And so that drumbeat ??? 'we???re not sure if he???s patriotic or not; we???re not sure if he IS TO BLACK.' (??????????)'

When he pulls the race card out of thin air like that, it just doesn't seem right. If there had been attacks from the GOP or 3rd party groups, then I could understand him bringing it up and rightfully so. But the way he says it implies that the GOP is racist or something along those lines. Obviously, I don't always agree with the GOP as I've been a democrat my whole life until 2008. But they actually have provided more opportunities for minorities to make progress (Colin Powell, Condi Rice, Clarence Thomas, etc) then the dems have. That's a pretty low blow to accuse the other side of racism. It's something Karl Rove would do.

"And then on Thursday, Fast Eddie Obama had his finest hour. Barack Obama has worked on political reform more than any other issue. He aspires to be to political reform what Bono is to fighting disease in Africa. He???s spent much of his career talking about how much he believes in public financing. In January 2007, he told Larry King that the public-financing system works. In February 2007, he challenged Republicans to limit their spending and vowed to do so along with them if he were the nominee. In February 2008, he said he would aggressively pursue spending limits. He answered a Midwest Democracy Network questionnaire by reminding everyone that he has been a longtime advocate of the public-financing system.

But Thursday, at the first breath of political inconvenience, Fast Eddie Obama threw public financing under the truck. In so doing, he probably dealt a death-blow to the cause of campaign-finance reform. And the only thing that changed between Thursday and when he lauded the system is that Obama???s got more money now.

And Fast Eddie Obama didn???t just sell out the primary cause of his life. He did it with style. He did it with a video so risibly insincere that somewhere down in the shadow world, Lee Atwater is gaping and applauding. Obama blamed the (so far marginal) Republican 527s. He claimed that private donations are really public financing. He made a cut-throat political calculation seem like Mother Teresa???s final steps to sainthood.

The media and the activists won???t care (they were only interested in campaign-finance reform only when the Republicans had more money). Meanwhile, Obama???s money is forever. He???s got an army of small donors and a phalanx of big money bundlers, including, according to The Washington Post, Kenneth Griffin of the Citadel Investment Group; Kirk Wager, a Florida trial lawyer; James Crown, a director of General Dynamics; and Neil Bluhm, a hotel, office and casino developer.

I have to admit, I???m ambivalent watching all this. On the one hand, Obama did sell out the primary cause of his professional life, all for a tiny political advantage. If he???ll sell that out, what won???t he sell out? On the other hand, global affairs ain???t beanbag. If we???re going to have a president who is going to go toe to toe with the likes of Vladimir Putin, maybe it is better that he should have a ruthlessly opportunist Fast Eddie Obama lurking inside.

All I know for sure is that this guy is no liberal goo-goo. Republicans keep calling him naïve. But naïve is the last word I???d use to describe Barack Obama. He???s the most effectively political creature we???ve seen in decades. Even Bill Clinton wasn???t smart enough to succeed in politics by pretending to renounce politics."

You don't lose your American citizenship if you live out of your country. Once an American always an American. so this person who is trying to say that Obama's mother was not really a legitimate American citizen because she lived in Hawaii at the time of his birth is wrong. Also Hawaii was a state in 1959. But what if it hadn't of been? His mother could have lived in Timbuktu and she would not have lost her citizenship and any children born to her would be considered Americans too. I am an American citizen who has lived in Europe for almost 20 years and I AM STILL AN AMERICAN CITIZEN AND CARRY AN AMERICAN PASSPORT AND GO FOR RENEWALS AT THE AMERICAN EMBASSY AND I CAN VOTE AND SO CAN MY SON WHO IS ALSO AN AMERICAN CITIZEN. AND WE ARE VOTING FOR OBAMA. So........

This is just more distraction from the issues we face as a country. I'm sure when Obama was "considering" public financing he never knew average Americans would be so supportive through small donations. So now he is a bad guy for not shutting off our link to his campaign? I'm glad he opted out, because now I can continue to support with a few bucks here and there. I fell like I'm investing in a better USA by doing so, and I'm sure I'm not alone. McCain might take public financing, and it will only be due to the fact that he lacks that same support, because we see through his Flip Flop Express....

Nah I don't have time to work for his campaign, but I have contributed. I just think it's real funny anyone would claim Democrats are trying to buy a campaign when the Republicans are the party of the rich elite. Remember Bush saying, " Some call you the haves, some call you the elite, I call you my base" ? The party hasn't changed it's tune, and McCain plans for even more tax cuts to his elite base. The thing no one counted on before this General Election is that millions of average Americans would contribute like they have. It's a huge factor in why you won't see McCain leaving the Senate this year.

I'm a member of the Democratic party and Obama may be being funded by those who intend to harm the United States of America. They are a perfect match. Terrorists are anti-American and Obama is anti-American. He clearly can not get support from tax payer money. He apparently doesn't want the US government looking at his books of who donated him money. This way he is free to accept money from those who want to do America harm and not be held accountable for it. Like I said, I'm a member of the Democratic party and I will not be voting for Obama. I will be casting my vote with McCain to help Obama not get elected. I have no problem with African American's running for President. In-fact I think it is long overdue. I do have a major problem with malconents who lie, (attending a hate church for twenty years and never knew it was anti-american, not!!), and who are anti-american.

    • Posted By: sedonakaren @ 06/20/2008 3:23:25 PM

Do you know what, Sir? We don't need racists in the Democratic party. And frankly, you don't sound intelligent enought to even vote. Obama is the most transparent candidate who's ever run for president. McCain and his wife are able to hide all his assets in her name, and she refuses to release her records,. The summary she released after much pressure is hardly any real information.

Did you notice how much McCain is whining about Obama's finances? Does anyone really believe he would do ANY different, if the situation were reversed and HE was able to attract the kind of support Obama does?

In addition, McCain knows all about playing the system and is using 527's and the RNC to do his dirty work. The RNC has 10's of millions ready to go to work for McCain that is over and above the federal moeny he's taking....so he isn't the lily white pasty old man he appears to be.

I have to laugh most of all, however, when I hear McCain whine about Obama "flip-flopping," and "not keeping his word." What about McCain's flip flop on taxes, the100 years in Iraq (and now suddenly we'll be out by 2013, and most of all, What about his word to protect the troops? He let them down when he was too much of a worm to even show up when they voted on the GI bill. Well, they don't need him, but it would have been nice if he had actually supported the troops.

      • Posted By: eternity875 @ 06/20/2008 3:30:37 PM

Nice propaganda, sedonakaren...McCain and Graham had a better GI bill they wanted to have voted on but the dems "tabled" it and pushed the Webb bill. McCain did not vote against GI's and you know it. He also explained the 100 year comment as akin to our PRESENCE in Germany and Japan, but it's more convenient for you Obamabots to spout rhetoric than state the facts.

        • Posted By: Bona Phide @ 06/20/2008 3:38:38 PM

The statement about McCain having a better GI bill is a downright LIE! He said it himself that the bill would hurt the military's ability to RETAIN TROOPS. Do you realize what he meant by that? That if we give the troops too many education opportunities, then they would pursue them ,and not stay in the military. That is such a lowballed and disgraceful stance to take when these guys put their lives on the line for us. AND coming from a former military man it's unfathomable. Eternity please don't post slanderous information on here. You are seriously misinformed.

Bona...you are the one who is misinformed. I said, if you will read, that Senator McCain and Senator Graham had a better bill...yes, it does reward length of service...bet you want to be rewarded in your career for longevity...the military is a career choice for many, many young men and women...you wouldn't like it if a newbie received the same benefits as you and it would do nothing to keep you there. Like it or not, we do need to have a military and I think a trained, experienced military is the best thing we can have. This is not slanderous and you are out of line. Did you know the Graham bill also allowed for the unused education credits to be transferred to a spouse or children if the soldier chose not to use them? It think that's a fantastic benefit, as the mother-in-law of a soldier. You know nothing of my stance and I doubt you know any soldiers. I believe you are a "bona phide" obamabot! :-)

I know plenty of soldiers from Marines, Army, and Navy. Many friends of mine have served numerous tours, and many feel like they got lied to by recruiters in terms of the education opportunities they would get when they returned. This is a time of war where troops get burned out real quick. You call them "newbies" and insult their service to our country. Using the fact that they would opt to pursue education after serving our country instead of a military career is a cop out. This bill id great for our troops morale, and McCain not even showing up to vote on it is the ultimate insult. If it were the other way around you would be ALL OVER Obama right now.

I think it would have been nice for the congress to be allowed to see both bills for GI benefits (the Webb bill AND the Graham bill) so the merits of each could be discussed. Possibly, if they had done that, the final bill would have been comprised of the best of both bills...but that is the status of this ineffective congress...there is no willingness to work together which is why they hve a considerably lower approval rating that the president.

After 8 years of misrule and cronyism and war-mongering, I wouldn't vote for a Republican if he was a saint. Enough is enough. Your post is so filled with misinformation and innuendos that it hardly deserves a reply. Some Democrat you are. I'm sure they don't need party members like you.

It is truly unfortunate that Obama had to refuse taking government money to help finance his campaign. If the Republican machine could be trusted, Obama most likely would not have had to go in this direction. At this point in time, the system rewards those that chose to get around the idea of conducting fair and honest campaigns. No one knows how much money PACs and theRepublican National Committee has collected under the table . Only a fool would trust them to be honest. Considering this, what would you suggest that Obama do?

    • Posted By: McCainwillwin @ 06/20/2008 11:55:25 PM

I would suggest osamabama drop out now and concede the election to McCain. Save the taxpayers a bundle of $$$ that won't have to be spent on secret service protection. The guy's an inexperienced, freshman senator, who had to limp across the finish line for the nomination. Turn out the lights, dems, the party's over : P

In your dreams, "my friends", in reality, 'tis McCain who, after 3 months with zero competition, still has zero lead, and in some polls is 15 pts behind, Obama. And BO's only put up one ad so far. Get ready, here we come! O 08

            • Posted By: McCainwillwin @ 06/21/2008 2:22:38 AM

Believe what you want. The only real poll is the one conducted on election day in November. That glorious day will be the day the dems drink the Jim Jones coolaid because they blew another presidential election. Until then, enjoy the false hope these phony polls show.

    • Posted By: anotherview @ 06/21/2008 12:53:19 AM

It is not "Government money". The public funds come from the voters, the American people! Who can't be trusted is Obama. He is on record as supporting public financing and would use it. Until that is, Obama discovered how much money is out there.

And he will need it all as he didn't even get a surge against McCain when Hillary withdrew. Perhaps voters are looking at more than charisma and rhetoric now, like getting a feel for this unknown man who miraculously had the funds back in 2004 to launch his presidential bid.

      Trust....Obama...hardly!

Americans are very lucky to has a President that is so smart and caliber as Obama in handling Finance and do stop the Breakdown in the system of Public Finance MAJORLY so with the Corrupted within Republican Party. Obama has instructed Howard Dean NOT to Collect any Money from Pacs ,Lobbyist during this Election Campaign. We all Know RNC has more then 400 million contributes by the Lobbyist ,republican Air free Advertisment for John MCain 12 hrs a day and Pacs ,contributes ,while DNC has less then 25 million let alone for Convention in Denver.

John McCain is going to receive 85 million Public Finance,527 group spending million of dollars for John McCain in paying his ALL his Advertisments, and many others lobbylist.McCain has complained about the undue influence of lobbyists when it comes to electing politicians, McCain himself has five times as many lobbyists raising money for his campaign as Obama does: 70 to 14, according to Public Citizen, a non-profit advocacy organisation. It doesn't take a statistical genius to realise that's one lopsided fight.

We all Know the Candidates Party can Support his Candidates in Election,RNC with 400 million lobbyist money can support John McCain. If Obama going to accepted this 85 Million in Public Finace how on earth he???s going to have FAIR fight?????.He know DNC unable to help him out on this finance matters

What's lame is that narrow focus on lobbyists and PACs, and not on how McCain has gamed the public financing system, first on it, then off it, then back on it and exceeds its limits, even borrowing against public financing! That's not even legal. Where???s your outrage that the FEC has no quorum and can???t monitor donations this campaign season? Add his shadow-funding set-ups, for who better to game the system than he who, backed by his lobbyist pals, set it up (from Huffpo April 21, 08)
The Wall Street Journal reports on the details of McCain's fund:
    "McCain Victory 08" -
The new structure allows up to $70,000 in individual contributions by channeling the money into different McCain-centric funds. The first $2,300 of that would go to McCain's primary campaign. The Republican National Committee would receive $28,500 of the donation. The remaining funds would be divided equally, up to $10,000 a piece, among four states the campaign has designated as battlegrounds for November: Wisconsin, Minnesota, Colorado and New Mexico.

The non-partisan organization Public Campaign Action Fund has published an open letter to McCain asking that he drop the system: You and your campaign will describe

barrack Hussein obama has but one political agenda, to bring America down and let the UN and foreign interests take control, for his own benefit. He will do this by over-taxation, entitlement and welfare programs, take from the wealthy and the middle-class to give, not to our own poor, but to the Kenyas and other countries who can't take care of themselves. He will immediately attack our constitutiional liberties, one by one, beginning by removing the 2nd Amendment, also to dismantle our military and our ability to defend ourselves. For what? To feed his friggin ego and try to keep that wife of his off his back. People, you better wake up. You better question his intentions, what "changes" is he offering. He hasn't offered a single idea or "change". Absolutely nothing substantive. He only uses someone else's ideas and rhetoric, that haven't worked in the past. Wake up!! This guy is a moron. Oh, he might have made it through law school and that crap, but he doesn't possess the wisdom or "common sense" to use his intelligence. What a rip-off!!!

" ... to bring America down and let the UN and foreign interests take control, for his own benefit"

What exactly would that benefit be?

" ... entitlement and welfare programs, take from the wealthy and the middle-class to give, not to our own poor, but to the Kenyas and other countries who can't take care of themselves. "

That sounds a tad racist, now doesn't it.

" ... will immediately attack our constitutiional liberties, one by one, beginning by removing the 2nd Amendment, ... "

Most redneck's can't distinguish between the concept of reasonable gun control and abolishing the Second Amendment.

" ... dismantle our military and our ability to defend ourselves. For what? To feed his friggin ego and try to keep that wife of his off his back."

To use your very eloquent response - WTF?

I might agree with you on some of this stuff... however, I got cold feet after listening to O characterize his pastor as his mentor. You know, the one who thinks the government created aids to kill the black people?

He lies about it saying he never heard such a thing from him, then, when he realized how stupid that sounded, he reversed himself.

And that's just the beginning. Yes, this poster was out there, but not anymore so than the "Reverend Wright", who Obama idolized.

            • Posted By: Zig Zag @ 06/20/2008 6:53:14 PM

I agree with you that the whole conspiracy theory about the government introducing AIDS to the black community on purpose is ridiculus.

But no one really knows the dynamic between Barrack and is pastor - especially if you didn't attend that church for a as long as Obama has. Was his pastor always like that, or did he change over time? I have had a couple of situations in my life where I have looked up to people, and over time, they changed - and not in a good way - but you hang in there with them, because you remember what they use to be like.

Obama's pastor is entitled to his opionion - which Obama has stated he does not agree with. That's good enough for me.

              • Posted By: Johnsonium @ 06/20/2008 7:00:11 PM

Exactly correct. We buck against the concept of uniformity of opinion. Yet, we are expecting everyone around candidates to perfectly parrot their opinions. Obama has a nuanced relationship with Wright. You don't always throw out the baby with the bath water when it comes to personal relationships. I think Obama is commendable for not judging his pastor simply because they have disagreements.

                • Posted By: Skypoint @ 06/20/2008 7:13:44 PM

But please explain to me why someone would sit in a pew and listen to someone that spewed this crap for over 20 years?

As I've said before, how many Catholics go to Mass on Sunday and then throw a condom on for some hanky-panky with their wife?

The Wright controversy is effectively dead. Obama successfully defused it. Those who are still harping on it object to him for other reasons and are grasping at straws.

The point is, unless you have been going to that church for twenty years, you don't really know if he has been "spewing that crap" for all this time.

            • Posted By: Johnsonium @ 06/20/2008 6:54:13 PM

Wright is once-removed from Obama. Should we pull out the statements of folks also once-removed from McCain? At least with Obama, it was his personal pastor. In McCain's case, folks he actively courted have said things about different groups of people that make what Wright said pale in comparison. Sure, the statements of McCain backers are not as incendiary as tarring an entire country, but they are more vile their hatred and insensitivity. Hitler was sent by God? Katrina was punishment by God? Wright criticized the American government. To me, that's much less egregious than attacking whole swaths of Americans due to their skin color or perceived sexual "immorality".

I've never understood the right-wing crowd that loves to criticize the government as a concept and in the specific when Democrats are in charge. Yet, when they have the reigns of power, critiques of the government are likened to treason.

Really? White America? So only white people are responsible for American foreign policy? Someone should tell Condaleeza Rice.

There's a difference with criticizing the government and "hating America". Wright has voiced some nutty conspiracies which I personally don't believe. However, there are nutty conspiracies on the right as well. Have you seen "The Clinton Chronicles"? Where was the outrage against that libelous nonsense?

People trying to knock down Obama due to Wright are going to lose. You need to find a different tact. There must be some other angle you can use to turn people away from Obama. Fortunately, I believe Obama will effectively defend himself against the barrage that is surely coming his way. He won't be swiftboated.

He was a good community organizer years back which might be why he faired well with his campaign. Well, yeah, having the DNC and all of the MainStreamMedia helped a tiny bit (hehee) too; but unfortunately did a disservice to the voting citizens that still dont know who this guy really is as he has never been fully vetted like others, especially given he came out of no where and when a pattern of questionable things became quite obvious the media had to at least mention (e.g. Wright) some stuff. But in no way has this guy been fully vetted. Im hoping that will happen between now and the GE. God help us if the vetting happens if /when he gets into the White House.

If the public is contributing to Obama's campaign willingly and with small contributions, he will owe no favors to anyone. And what could be "public financing" more than the way he's chosen to do it?
I don't see how that is buying anything,. It's not like using his wife's private jet or loaning his campaign $11 million of his own money, or using future receipts of federal money for the general campaign as "collateral" for the primary, or anything like that. (Recognize anyone here?)

  • Posted By: mioilman @ 06/20/2008 2:54:25 PM

If Obama could just be honest as to the motivation for changing from public to private donations that would be one thing. Barack Hussein Obama never does anything with out blaming his flip flop on other nefarious forces. When Kerry was confronted by the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth he vowed to take the heros to court. Candle Face also communicated his intention to relese his war records. The lying liberal did neither. Our any of you Barack Hussein Kool Aid drinkers troubled by the release by Move On.Org of the new TV ad where the mother in need of a shower declares her child will not be available for the war In Iraq. The truth is - it is the liberal faction that has allowed America to explore and become Great! If we never tried to change how things work - they would break and remain broken. That is what we're seeing with the GOP spending like there's no tomorrow, borrowing from COMMUNIST CHINA to boot! We're fighting for the oil companies but we can't keep the lights on in the summer! We can't rebuild New Orleans, we can't fix anything anymore as a result! So this is good?

The fact of the matter that the most liberal, social based governments in Europe are also the most successful and have surpassed the standard of living in America by far.

Look at Finland, Denmark, Sweden , Norway , Iceland for example. Look at the Euro's value, look at the surpluss' and they all have liberal governments.

John Kerry did in fact release his military records. The swift boat veterans were trying ot say that his evalutaion reports and his award recommendations were false. There was no way that John Kerry could prove that they were not. It would have been like McCain trying to prove he didn't have an illegitimate black child. It would be imporssible and the swift boat veterans knew this.

"He is going to tax us at a higher rate than any other developed country" Where do you get this nonsense? Have you seen tax rates of France, Germany, The Netherlands? Obama wants to roll back the Tax cuts the Bush administration implemented, that would not put us anywhere near the countries mentioned above.

Fact is, if we want the education, health care, and standard of living that these people share, we will need a government that we have faith in, and be willing to pay higher taxes.

I'm willing to pay high taxes, if my government has the transparency to spend the money in ways that secure my future.

I'm NOT! Government sponsored health care, government education and the redistribution of wealth is NOT the function of government. I'm not willing to pay one cent more for socialist programs!

Hmm, last I checked European countries taxed their citizens at a rate of about 60% or higher. The United States of America has THE lowest tax rates of any country in the world. So what are YOU yammering about?

Business is what has destroyed this country. Tell me, you must have a REALLY good job that hasn't been shipped overseas. My sister has sat at the same desk for several years and worked for 3 or 4 different companies because they had all been sent overseas.

Again, prove it to me with numbers, facts, etc. You can't! All you can do is just talk, talk, talk. It is not like the Republican side of the fence haven't had their share of screw ups in the economy and other issues, and I am not just talking Bush here. It is very true that Obama's plans may fail. However, it is very true that McCain's plans may fail. That is not the point. The point is that this country, more than any other time since I have been alive, needs to veer at least 90 degrees. I am willing to vote for someone that has the gumption to try taking a different path, fail or succeed. Don't sit here and give me Fox/Republican talking points, please.

Excellent strategy even though it make Obama another politician, saying how important public financing is, then inventing a reason why he won't use it because he can blow McCain out of the election, if an election can be bought.

So each donor can go to the $2300 max between now and August, then do it all over again. That is something like over 300 million....twice! And McCain will have 84 million!

Obama couldn't win with the voters against McCain outspending her 3 to 1 or better. We will see if he can buy the Presidency outspending McCain something like 7 to 1.
