Bingo -- you hit the nail on the head..

Lots of people lined up behind without too much independent thought.

Thats just silly; Karl Rove is the best dirty politiical figure in modern history. No one in Obamas or McCains staff can hold a candle to the Brain.

Obama won't be only person that wins. The Senate and House need Democrats elected so we can have the real change that is needed. I think that will happen. Then it will be up to them to make the correct changes that are needed. If they do not....we throw them out too. But give them some time. We're going to need at least 8 years to clean up this mess.

Is this election really again about who has a (R) or (D) by their name? Please tell me we as a country are beyond that. Please tell me we have learned lessons from the last decade that makes this election about the future of this country. Please tell me that people are going to vote from their heart and brain, and not from a robotic sense of party loyalty.

I hope we can get beyond many of the non-sensical statements on this forum and actually focus on real issues.

The bottom line, if you are really honest with yourself and not just mindlessly dedicated to the party line, is that a change must be made after the primarily crap we have been through the last 8-10 years. Now the question becomes, who has the freshest ideas. Period. Fresh ideas are needed. I am not saying the fresh ideas will work, but I am willing to take that chance, especially from an energy policy and health care perspective. As a voter in a relatively high tax bracket, you can raise my taxes to do this -- but you better do it right, or I will punish you with my vote later on. I am not an idiot robot who will just vote party no matter what.

That said, if I have the choice between the two, I am voting from Barack Obama. If you are honest with yourself, he brings the hope for change (whether execution comes with that will remain to be seen). McCain is trying, but in the end, you know as well as I do that the hope for change with Obama is about 90+ degrees while McCain might be 20 degrees from the current situation. I think for the sake of my kids, we need the hope for a 90+ degree change in this country right now. A real turn down another path.

"please tell me we are beyond that"
actually it tis worse than that...
I have been told by someone that is a campaign manager that when people can't make up their mind in the poll booth they vote for the first name (names of candidates are listed alphabetically on the ballot)
      I find this very sad.

    • Posted By: mrzoid @ 06/20/2008 6:26:48 PM

You certianly have a hold on rational political reasoning, but the voting public as a majority is still party locked. We haven't moved past that.

      • Posted By: PleaseSaveAmerica @ 06/20/2008 6:29:33 PM

How does that get changed is the question? I suppose Reagan did it in 1980. I fear this election will be another one of those 51-49 elections for all the wrong reasons -- which is "Oh! It's time to vote. I don't really keep up with what is going on in this country at any detailed level, but I know who I am voting for -- the one with the (R) or (D) by their name"

        • Posted By: mrzoid @ 06/20/2008 6:44:53 PM

U cant change the predominate leaning to the two opposing polls. Most people will never opt out of their own comfort zone. The key is the middle, the 15-20% that listens to the candidates before making a calculated decision.

So what! Obama still has the moral ground on this issue. 1-He refuses to accept money from lobbyists and PACs. 2-He has forced the DNC to refuse money from lobbyists and PACs. 3-The small donor, grass roots base of Obama's campaign is the ideal in terms of funding a clean campaign that will not be tied to special interests. 4-McCain already flip flopped during the primary on public financing. First he asked for public financing then after accepting money under those pretenses decided it wasn't enough and as late as February said he was changing his mind. Not only did he change his mind he violated the laws and FEC rules. See this link: http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/02/21/mccain-told-he-must-take-public-money/?scp=2&sq=mccain%20matching%20funds%20primary&st=cse

The point is, Obama is no different t(flip, flop, flip, flop) than any other insider politician (yes, even McCain), which BO claimed he was not going to be like any of the old Washington cronies, so to speak, and that he represented change you could believe in.

      • Posted By: Johnsonium @ 06/20/2008 6:14:18 PM

This is a big change. For once, a campaign will be financed by numerous small donors, instead of a few fat cats.

in the end obama chose not to accept public financed dollars even after saying early on that he would. obama got only half of the democratic vote. the half he got support him regaurdless of anything he might say or do. but the half that didnt vote for him are in equal numbers if not more question his leaership. if we cant believe what he says in small matters its certainly going to make a difference on how we vote in november. throw in the fact that his supporters send death threats to organizations that oppose him into the mixture and there is a lot of caution against voting for him. we all watch the news. we read the blogs. we do so much research on the candidates. what is the point of trying to force someone to vote for your candidate... death threats are in essance trying to do just that. is that the type of change obama speaks of?? i have noticed on this blog that there is no listening on either side. but death threats are going just too far people...!!!

Vote for McCain. I don't care. Irrationality has always beguiled me, but you are entitled to it.

  • Posted By: RDOMINGUEZ @ 06/20/2008 4:31:55 PM

OK, so I was on here earlier fighting it out with "pleasesaveamerica" and others, and I've been watching the arguments, and fellow McCain people, I've come to the conclusion, it doesn't matter what you say, or what argument you bring up, the Obama people aren't listening, nor do they care to listen. All they care to do is taint the minds with their cult following for Obama's CHANGE movement. So, I urge fellow McCain people to talk to your friends and family, join John McCain's website at www.JohnMcCain.com and get involved. Together we can defeat this grassroots movement and put an end to this once and for all in November. We must organize and we must come together, all united, all one, against Obama.

    McCain 2008!

    • Posted By: mrzoid @ 06/20/2008 4:37:17 PM

None of that will change the simple fact that the Republican base just isnt very enthused with their candidate. Its very understandable; not that its McCain's fault, but after eight years of being on top, people just lose the raw hunger the have when their out of power.

      • Posted By: RDOMINGUEZ @ 06/20/2008 4:45:05 PM

You are speaking for yourself and your fellow Obama supporters. McCain has a Republican and even Democratic and Independent base that is very enthusiastic about putting and end to the Obama- Movement. Many have different reasons, some anger, some hate, some racially charged, others not so much. But all will come together in November. Thank You.

        • Posted By: sjpersonal @ 06/20/2008 4:56:54 PM

Please his democratic base as you call it are a few bitter, yes I typed Bitter, women and a few men who are upset that Clinton lost and are so delusional and blinded by their anger that they would vote for a blind dog just to punish the DNC, Obama, Congress, Senate and anyone who had the nerve not to vote for Clinton. They are willing to help Bush/McCain screw this country up even more than they already have just because they are pissed. This is pathetic.

          • Posted By: RDOMINGUEZ @ 06/20/2008 5:07:47 PM

Well whatever the case, he has a Democratic base, I believe it is larger than you think. For whatever reason, John McCain welcomes those votes.

            • Posted By: Bona Phide @ 06/20/2008 6:45:35 PM

Well that's great. I know plenty of republicans that are disgusted with the nomination of McCain. Many plan to either vote Obama, or write in Ron Paul. Remember Ralph Nader pulling votes away from Gore. Well Republicans you have Ron Paul as payback. Enjoy... =)

      • Posted By: miltongalfas @ 06/20/2008 4:52:41 PM

Obama ran on change. Change in funding elections. Now whe find out he lied. He knew than what he knows now. But just like Wright he only changes his values when a corrupt politician does... when it benefits him and not the American people. And I thought he was different. At least McCain doesn't lie all of the time. Just some of the time.

        • Posted By: Zig Zag @ 06/20/2008 6:02:52 PM

You can't possibly be that naive. Take a look at sjournal's post above referencing the Wall Street Journal artcile about McCain circumventing his own finance reform law. Now there's a liar.

        • Posted By: befair @ 06/20/2008 5:22:10 PM

but he did not lie. He said he would aggressively pursue and agreement on public financing. He did pursue it and when it was made clear that McCain was going to benefit from groups like "Freedom's Watch" which has said it will spend as much as $250 million dollars under the guidance of Karl Rove, to attack and defeat Obama, Sen. Obama declined public financing.

      • Posted By: RDOMINGUEZ @ 06/20/2008 4:46:56 PM

It's frankly a waste of time, you have an answer for everything or a lie when there is no answer waiting. That is why. Obama-tactics are very sly.

        • Posted By: PleaseSaveAmerica @ 06/20/2008 4:54:12 PM

Very slick response RDOMINGUEZ when you know you can't effectively rebutt or provide hard evidence. You must have learned your techniques from Slick Willie (Bill Clinton), a Democrat by the way. Do you know what "is" is?

          • Posted By: mrzoid @ 06/20/2008 4:57:53 PM

Isnt "is" a word for a two term presidency with the largest budget surplus in history? Good point.

            • Posted By: RDOMINGUEZ @ 06/20/2008 5:06:24 PM

Yes, I happen to like Bill Clinton, what he did in his personal time was never any of my concern. That was between him, Monica, and eventually Hillary. It was never my business. The huge surplus, however, that was my business and we all benefited.

              • Posted By: mrzoid @ 06/20/2008 5:44:13 PM

I agree, we all benefited; and now were all suffering, and what economic changes do you see on the horizon in a John McCain administration?

            • Posted By: Interested American @ 06/20/2008 5:17:46 PM

"largest budget surplus in history" correction largest projected budge surplus in history. The surplus being based on revenues from 6% GDP growth over 10 years. As the dot com bubble burst in 1998-1999 all of that surplus went away. Come-on, at least pretend to be intellectually honest.

Projections are much like home equity, they only become a reality when the money is in your hand.

You probably are selfish and could care less about your neighbors well-being. War and thousands of people dead probably gets you excited... Be careful what you wish for, Mexico won't tke you back.

      • Posted By: RDOMINGUEZ @ 06/20/2008 4:48:45 PM

You are right, it won't be close. Obama has abandoned the states it takes to win, betting it all that he can win without those states, in the end he will fail, and his overconfidence will ruin him. Look at all the confidence in his supporters, that's why I've sat back all day and let you dig your own graves. You're such an overconfident, overzealous group, and at the end of the day, you annoy people.

        • Posted By: befair @ 06/20/2008 5:43:18 PM

Please do not mistake the clarifing of facts as being over confident. Sen. Obama and his supporters know that we are in the fight of our lives to win this election. We never under-estimate the power of being un-informed. Those who prefer to elect presidents based on who can sling the most mud are sadly successful sometimes and that is why we are more dedicated than ever before to correcting mis-information and shooting down false-hoods when we see them.

Stop whining and start hoping that the fall of the house of Usher (BUSH) is upon us - our planet, our country, and mankind depends on the realignment of this country to the constitution, the principles of balanced government set forth by the founding fathers, and usurped and destroyed by fear and skullduggery in the "W" machinations. As Mr. Thomas Jefferson said, " a little revolution is good now and then", and it is now time for us all to rise up and revolt, regurgitate this cancer of humanity that has parked its derrier at 1600 PA Ave.

You have missed the most important point, and perhaps Obama failed to drive it home. It is minor that McCain and the GOP may not be funded largely by PACs and lobbyists. They are funded largely by huge donations from people who will be at the Oval Office to claim their due if McCain is elected. The major point is the influence of the 527 groups. Obama is going to need a lot of money to shut down the slime. Getting it from middle class donors like myself, he can shut down the filth and be beholding to no one. If 3,000,000 people each give him $5,000, Obama won't even have to answer the phone when we call. That's how I like it.

    • Posted By: Interested American @ 06/20/2008 4:47:04 PM

Now McCain is the hand picked successor, and we are just going to believe that he doesn't have billionaire friends supporting him as well?!?! Please keep grasping at straws. TYLER - The price of oil swelled to another record high Monday morning - before dropping back. It almost hit $140 a barrel - but then fell 25 cents. It appears - a recent increase in oil output from Saudi Arabia -- is not driving down crude prices. Former Speaker of the House, Newt Gingrich, who started a bipartisan group called "American Solutions for Winning the Future" held little back at the Texas Republican Convention. He wants to use American solutions to change to the U.S. energy policy.

Simply put - he's fed up with Congress: "The problem is not big oil or the foreigners," said Speaker Gingrich. "The problem is not the Saudis. The problem is getting Congress to do it's job." And that job, he says, is to start using the energy we have. "Congress outlaws every conceivable energy source," said Speaker Gingrich. Gingrich is making his case for domestic drilling by launching a campaign with Actor Chuck Norris, with the slogan: "Drill here, Drill now, Pay less." The campaign is urging Congress to do something now to bring down gas prices. Speaker Gingrich also has thoughts on speculators. "It's people who are betting the U.S. is too dumb to produce (its own oil)."

He sides with East Texas Congressman Louie Gohmert -- when it comes to speculators and drilling. "If you began selling off two million barrels a day...we can pump out of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. It would immediately bring down the price of oil." Speaker Gingrich proposes selling off half of the reserve - now. "Do it suddenly..without telling anybody in advance and punish every speculator."The very speculators, he says, that are betting against America."

Gas is up because of rampant speculation allowed by the Bush administration's deregulation. This is a fact. Adding more oil that will not make it to gasoline for 10 years won't help this.

I have a hard time understanding why any middle class or blue collar worker would consider voting for another Republican adminstration. I am an upper class who will benefit from continuation of Bush's tax cut for the wealthy and I can afford to wait out a McCain term or two. So by all means impose more grief upon yourself.

    • Posted By: Johnsonium @ 06/20/2008 6:30:08 PM

The cons have been very clever. They've fashioned a story around their economic royalist beliefs that makes it look like they are for the "average joe", when in fact their policies benefit the very wealthy elite. Give them their props. They have based their entire party on this deceit. Hopefully, we'll be able to get some of those folks to see how they are getting raped by the Republicans. I think we're making head way.

Folks, I think we can put a moratorium on this comment board about "flip-flopping" and "dirty politics". All politicians from local elections to the President of the United States flip-flop and play dirty. That is what U.S. politics is all about and has been about for many years. You know that and I know that. For every time you say Obama is playing dirty or flip-flopping, I can name one for McCain. And vice-versa. That is just the way it is. Let's get beyond that.

ROTFLOL!!! The only ANTI-CONSTITUTION party is the democrat party. They think the 1st Amendment applies only to them, and they are the morons who want to repeal the 2nd Amendment.

Yeah. You tell them. What this board needs more of is fact-free libelous rants. There certainly isn't enough of that these days.

In the 1960's and 1970's Newsweek was IMO a liberal magazine- today- judging just by the title of this article- it has gone 180 degrees and is a far right rag. I don't care what numbers you claim. After 8 years of lies from everyone in the dumbya admini9stration, Americans will not accept anything you liars say. In November we will kick all the repugnants possible out of office to bring hoinest government back to America. Newsweek sucks and so does evereyone who voted for the wprst president we have ever had- TWICE.

This is just one article, Newsweek is still pretty liberal; just ask any of the republicans on here if they agree.

It's a fair article, and I'm an Obama supporter. We should all celebrate the media when they responsibly fact check, not dismiss them as biased. Both sides need to forget about bias and just get their messages across loud and clear. Whining about the media is unbecoming and largely futile.

    Lov4America
You're one of the dumbasses I'm talking about. Obama can't speak without a teleprompter? your doofus can't speak with or without one. Take your lousy GED and go back to the hills you came from- pray that we don't shoot everyone too stupid to vote.

Just mention one accomplishment of husseim Obama in the senate???Just tell me what are the changes he is gonna bring??????OBAMA IS NOT QUALIFIED TO BE PRESIDENT PERIOD???By the way I have a lot more than a GED

"I have a lot more than a GED"

I'd certainly ask for my money back from whatever higher education institution claims to have educated you.

I don't get the mccain camp on this - didn't he flip flop on financing earlier in the campaign process. I think Mccain is just pissed because he sees the grass roots support Obama has - raising money isn't and never has been an issue for Obama - and the bulk of the money is from regular folks like myself. I like the way he runs his campaign and he'll make an exceptional president.

I'm also amazed at the idiocy I see in some of the posts. The frothing righties - it's not the dems fault your party has been disgraced by the inept bush administration and the corruption bred in the republican party - you brought it all on yourselves. If you're angry properly direct it to those responsible, otherwise you just look like raging lunatics.

Dunno. Your same Wall St. Journal, the New York Times as well,[for a change],are currently beating up on Obama for not only trying to have it both ways, but also single-handedly destroying campaign-finance reform. Besides, all of this ''grassroots'',I -Take-No-Dough-From -Lobbyists is a pack of hooey, especially when we scroll down the list of ''personal contributors''on the website of the Center for Responsive Politics[www.opensecrets.org] and find that reams of them represent lobbying firms and interests.
