Hey Gistca.. You can buy the White House, YES YOU CAN.

    • Posted By: gistca @ 06/20/2008 3:35:54 PM

Buying it is a hell of lot more American Than taking it (GW in 2000), I hope The RNC has learned their lesson. This Country has had more Disasters under this man that at anytime in History. Maybe the RIGHT rev. HAGEE can put that in one of his Sunday Morning Sermons.

      • Posted By: eternity875 @ 06/20/2008 3:48:09 PM

According to your buddy Al Gore, the natural disasters would be the result of global warming, gistca...and the RNC didn't take the White House...the Supreme Court made that decision and the dems put a few of those guys in place...:-)

Much ado over nothing. Obama had placed conditions on which way he would raise funds right at the beginning, but you're not reporting on that. Your story is missing a few bones. Of course, now, with news being 24/7, you have a lot of pages to fill and time to kill so this is another one of those non-issue stories the political agenda is full of. McCane is flailing on all counts so I guess you can take a hit at the Big Guy. Quit majoring in the minors. Your credibility is on the line also.

Give me a break Oprah, I mean Obama. Which way do you want it? You have all these backers behind you and we, here in the real world, know the deal. By the way. What are you always looking at when your on camera? You look upwards to your left and right but never at the camera.

    • Posted By: kgibson20 @ 06/20/2008 3:36:44 PM

Considering that he's attracting record setting crowds and that several of them are gathering in arenas and other facilites that have people seated at a higher elevations than himself, it would be proper technique to address them in a manner which would cause someone to look up and to both sides.

    • Posted By: justthefactsplease @ 06/20/2008 1:18:34 PM

know what deal? I have no clue what the hell your talking about in that incoherent mess you call a comment. jughead is a more appropriate moniker for you.

You reporters make me sick. The Repuglicans have been gaming the campaign finance system for years and you did nothing but excuse the practice by hand wringing and fake concern. Now Obama has found a way to really get financed by the American public and in an unexpectedly spectacular fashion and you guys are running scared. This process is out of your control that's why you want to find ways to stop it. Money talks, doesn't it? Well we are voting with our money. Let the market work it's magic! (LOL)

This man, Barack Hussein Obama is a snake oil specialist. He belongs out west on a covered wagon selling special medicinal tonic (alcohol & coloring) to the indians. Then he can work his way to the boardwalk of the county fair carnival giving you three throws for a dollar to win a 5 cent doll.

    • Posted By: Nor-Cal for Obama @ 06/20/2008 3:35:09 PM

Hey Waddy, how are those west Virginia summers when working the coal mines ehh? Hows the emphysema?

    • Posted By: gistca @ 06/20/2008 3:25:06 PM

You're only about 100 years behind the time, Your tribe has destroyed all of the Native Indians.

Well spoken for a backward, obvious racist, hillbilly inbred - who else would make such idiotic and ignorant remarks! For all the GOP's righteousness, they have more philandering gay, 'wide stance' members than the rest! Go you self-righteous pedophiles!

This article is almost funny, if it weren't so pathetic. It talks more about past elections, than about 2008. Perhaps the DNC USED to take PAC and lobbyist money. Obama wasn't running then, remember? I notice you don't mention that Obama has the extra expense of having to fight hundreds and dirty racist smears about his being a facist, a communist, a Muslim, and whatknot. Also those about his wife being "angry," and "scary." I'm just waiting until Fox comes out with some trash about his 8 and 10 year old daughters.

Obama "flip'flopped." Maybe so. McCain doesn't have clean hands on this either. In fact, he's currently being sued because of the way he used Fed funds for the primary and then used his not-yet-received Fed funds for the General as "collateral" for a loan during the primaries. At least what Obama did was legal!

I also have NO doubt that if John McCain discovered he was able to raise the kind of excitement and money Obama has, he would have done the same thing, and never looked back.

McBush has flip-flopped on so many more important things, and continues to lie about disagreeing with Bush. He supported Bush 95% of the time last year. A truly "loyal" Bush lacky, was he!

    • Posted By: Nor-Cal for Obama @ 06/20/2008 3:33:17 PM

Flipflop is not a word that defines anything. Politically expedient moves in times that call for them. (I.E. 'changing your mind'

For C Sake, he filled out a questionare 18 months ago and said he supported public financing. I guess thats his 'word' in holy grail terms??? Cmon people.

  • Posted By: cannonmama @ 06/20/2008 2:29:55 PM

I'm not even surprised. Obama said (in february) that he would go along with public financing. Now that he realizes he can raise more money, it just isn't convenient anymore. Anyime a system doesn't work for Obama he calls it "broken". I have no doubt he will win the election but we all better be hanging on because it is going to be a nasty ride for 4 years.

    • Posted By: Rocker68 @ 06/20/2008 3:28:20 PM

      what about the last 8

    • Posted By: Rocker68 @ 06/20/2008 3:26:20 PM

what about the nasty ride we have been on for the last 8 yrs. $4 gas hurt yet? buying cheap crap from Walmart from our slumlords (China) hurt yet? unemployment hurt yet? retirement account hurt yet? groceries? Are you that rich or that stupid or both?

  • Posted By: befair @ 06/20/2008 3:26:19 PM

Why do you keep talking about Sen. Obama's faith, he and his wife are christians. You really have to accept that fact and if you are going to be so indignant about Rev. Wright then show the same concern about John Hagee and his many followers who sit in his church year after year listening to him preach his shocking, hateful and divisive messages. Are we to assume that all of them share Pastor Hagee's sentiments on catholics, jews and victims of natural disastors.

  • Posted By: Nor-Cal for Obama @ 06/20/2008 3:26:14 PM

Obama's camp has made a politically expedient move, reversing a trend of GOP dominated years of our financing the democrats. As an Obama supporter, i too, wish it was less masked in a 'broken system' based rhetorical, as I feel that private financing , while in it self a public finance system, has a few holes too. All in all, a short term loss, and a huge long term financing gain for the Obama camp.

Comment: How is 4000 Dead americans blowing Bush's Lies out of proportion? This is the problem, you're ok with LYING and CHEATING the American people but you distrust OBAMA? Talk about drinking the kool-aid?
it's UNAMERICAN to forget what has happened - Are you Proud we now TORTURE too? McCain is!

    - Are you that naive to think that the militants and terrorists extremists don't do the exact same thing to their captives. And I think McCain may know a little something about torture considering he was a POW himself! But perhaps you choose not to think of the Americans who literally threw themselves out of windows when faced with that option or dying a slow terrible death by burning to death within the WTC. For me, I cannot think of a worse torture than that! And whatever it takes to get these lunatics to talk and prevent something like that happening again, I'll back. And the reason you can complain at ALL is because of the millions of servicemen and women, like John McCain who defend your right to say rubbish like this. Pass me the Kool-aid!!!

    • Posted By: onepoker @ 06/20/2008 3:23:19 PM

Water boarding is just our way of saying thank you for killing 2000 of our citizens.

    • Posted By: FreeAmerica @ 06/20/2008 3:19:58 PM

As an American - we were always proud we did not STOOP to the torture tactics of our enemies! McCain should know about torture but somehow, he has forgotten. I lost a friend in the first plane that hit the towers that day, leaving a pregnant wife that we had to remove all the televisions from her home so she would not keep seeing her husband's plane go into the towers all day long! The birth of her son without his father! Tell ME! TERRORISM Today is an IDEAL - you cannot occupy, invade an 'IDEAL' - BUSH has made matters worse not better! Saddam hated Bin Laden - this is history. Yes, he supported HAMAS but you know, that is the Arab-Israeli issue - it was not HAMAS who attacked us. Why did BUSH allow the Bin Laden family to leave the US the very next day? But, as Americans enroute that day had to prove we were Americans in order to deboard a plane? Why haven't we found BIN LADEN? Because he is SAUDI and BUSH will not go against the Ssudi's. It made me ill to see our President - hold hands with the Saudi royalty like he was a lackey? It's all connected - bin laden and the Saudi's but we can't upset them now can we? Yes, I am willing too!

  • Posted By: Chitta Nirmel @ 06/20/2008 3:22:57 PM

Come on, you gushing, fevered, hopped-up Obamaniacs!

If Hillary had done exactly what Obama did, would you have been so supportive of her right to change her mind and raise lots of money?

Yes! Yes! I know, the Republican party sucks big time - which is why our nation's progress has become so constipated with that liar "Resident Dumbush". Voting for McCain will only prolong and intensify the agony. So as a thinking person I will, of course, vote for Obama over McCain - but please set and maintain high standards for all candidates and not just your flavor of the day. Please!

  • Posted By: cromagnan @ 06/20/2008 2:23:22 PM

Wow, YOU GUYS AT NEWSWEEK ARE JERKS. I HAD NO IDEA YOU WERE ALL REPUBLICANS.
I WILL NO LONGER VISIT YOUR SITE AND SUGGEST OTHERS BOYCOTT A SITE THAT USES HARSH UNPROFFESIONAL VERBAGE TO SLAM POLITICAL CANDIDATES.

    • Posted By: Tommypie @ 06/20/2008 2:29:41 PM

Cromagnan: Thank you for pointing ut that you have to be a Republican to tell the ruth. I knew it all along, but now I no longer have any doubts. So Newsweek is using "harsh, unprofessional langjuage" to tell its readers that B. Hussein Obama is a liar. I knew that all along, too.

      • Posted By: befair @ 06/20/2008 2:50:20 PM

When you address Sen. Obama as, B. Hussein Obama are you being sarcastic? John McCain has a common name. Some people refer to men who visit prostitutes as "John's are we to assume that Sen. McCain must visit prostitutes then. Should we assume that he may be serial killer like John Wayne Gasey. What about John Wilkes Boothe, should we attribute his deeds to John McCain since they share a name.

        • Posted By: Tommypie @ 06/20/2008 3:02:58 PM

befair: B. Husseim Obama's father, a black man from Kenya, was Muslim. Just because Obama's parents divorced does not mean that his father had no influence on his son's faith. And, why did the Obama campaign remove two women with Muslim head scarfs ftom their backdrop the other day? Too, close for comfort, huh. Obama knows that a Muslim could never win the presidency. Obama may not be Muslim himslef, but since he wants to "make nice" withthe Iranian president, I am worried. You cannot make peacd with the devil. Force is the only way to attack these low lives.

          • Posted By: befair @ 06/20/2008 3:21:03 PM

I doubt Sen. Obama's father had any influence on his faith since the Sen. was only a toddler when the man deserted the family. Our current president has said that muslims are to be respected in this country. Those who bring this subject up are too easily frightened I think. Do you think McCain staffers would let people wearing STOP THIS WAR tee shirts, sit behind him while he gives a speech. It is all together possible that the women in head-scarfs had an agenda other than simply listening to Obama's speech.

  • Posted By: wgoin @ 06/20/2008 3:20:21 PM

I have no problem with him deciding to let his campaign be funded by individual donations. The only reason McCain took public financing is that he can't raise enough to compete with him. But he has no problem letting the 527 organizations that Karl Rove influences bash Obama. Oh, he says he doesn't like it but he won't totally denouce them - wait and see!

  • Posted By: RDOMINGUEZ @ 06/20/2008 2:47:03 PM

You know, the Obama supporters tell the McCain people to WAKE UP, and listen to them, when it's laid out for them plain as day that Obama is a liar, and the still don't listen. You're in love with Obama and nothing can snap you out of that FOG your in, so it's probably a lost cause. You'll believe anything the man says and follow him even to the slaughter. Well, we'll see who has greater numbers in November and hopefully Obama will keep lying and exposing himself for what he truly is, a dirty politicial aspiring to be the next NIXON!

    • Posted By: PleaseSaveAmerica @ 06/20/2008 2:49:25 PM

But the same can be said about you regarding McCain. You can't be snapped out of it either. You are also in a fog!

Jeez, show me facts. Show me proven lying. Talk about the gazillion issues facing this country and how those are going to be solved.

      • Posted By: RDOMINGUEZ @ 06/20/2008 2:54:32 PM

I'll find proof, I'm searching right now, you might be able to fool the ignorant people who believe so easily, but I SAW Obama say one thing, besides he signed the agreement. I'm not sure what more proof you need!

        • Posted By: raddave @ 06/20/2008 3:19:17 PM

Obama filled out a questoinnaire asking if he planned on using public financing. He did mark yes. He also wrote : If I am the Democratic nominee, I will aggressively pursue an agreement with the Republican nominee to preserve a publicly financed general election." A questionnaire is hardly and agreement to use public financing.

SNAKE OIL SALESMAN?? That has no substance and means nothing. Do you have any comments that are in line with the 21st Century?

    • Posted By: Dansterpower @ 06/20/2008 3:11:01 PM

Here is a link to help you understand the general meaning:
      http://idioms.thefreedictionary.com/snake-oil+salesman

Specifically in relation to Obama, I use the term to mean that his proposals will bury the country and my children further in debt, his policies further engrain the "entitlement" attitude which has taken over America and reduced its competitiveness, and his policies will prolong Corporate Control over our health industries. That's what it means in this instance. These comments are VERY Specific and VERY inline with the 21st century. And you . . . ?

      • Posted By: cromagnan @ 06/20/2008 3:13:35 PM

OH I get it, and McCain keeping us where we are, will help you and your family somehow?? something does not add up with your logic.

        • Posted By: Dansterpower @ 06/20/2008 3:17:01 PM

Huh? Please stay on Topic. I am not a McCain Supporter at all.

  • Posted By: Nardwilly @ 06/20/2008 3:14:55 PM

To use the word lame is highly prejudcial even if this particular claim by Barack is not accurate. BUt you make no comments on the other point which is entirley relavent, 527s. As a matter of fact 527s can be worse. Also just because there is no lobby or PAC money today, does not mean there would not have been tomorrow or in October.

  • Posted By: cromagnan @ 06/20/2008 2:40:45 PM

You just figured out that Obama is a polititain? Your a bit slow. At least Obama wants whats best for us and is a public Servant. GW Bush forgot that he was a public servant and thinks of himself a ABOVE the rest of us. that includes you slim.

    • Posted By: Dansterpower @ 06/20/2008 2:45:27 PM

Please, if you want to see a politician who truly wants "What's best for Us," head on over to Ralph Nader's website -- t here you will see a true public servant. Obama is simply a snake oil salesmen with new clothes. To really evaluate either his or McCain's policies is to understand that they are both two sides of the same coin: Freedom reducing, debt increasing, special interest players. Neither has any true interest in taking the hard stands and making the difficult choices that will benefit the middle and lower middle class in this nation.

Educate yourself: resist the Kool aid

      • Posted By: cromagnan @ 06/20/2008 2:50:19 PM

You are ASLEEP. Ralph Nader? You need to look at the big picture and not live in a midro world where we only focus on one or two issues. Picture Ralph Nader negotiating with the Middle East or the leaders of the Communist world.....Please NO........it's a nightmare!!!!!!!!!!!!!

        • Posted By: Dansterpower @ 06/20/2008 3:14:41 PM

I can picture Nader negotiating a lot easier than Obama. Those countries will Roll Over Obama. I guess our definitions of "asleep" versus "aware" are different. I am confident in my mind and my life's work. I have made it my business, literally to analyze culture and politics and am confident of where I sit. I respect our right to differ. History will prove me correct on the legacy of Obama. I recall Jimmy Carter's good intentions, rhetoric and personality as well. Outstanding. Obama's policies are nearly identical to Carters and Obama will end up the same way. Good intentions without little knowledge and strength in terms of implementation.

    • Posted By: Judy Judy @ 06/20/2008 2:49:44 PM

"At least Obama wants what's best for us and is a public servant".?! Priceless sarcasm! Wait... it is sarcasm, isn't it? You really couldn't be serious? An intellectual like you? Nooo.

And while I can't prove it directly, methinks your comment relative to the Keating Five was directed in response to my comment posted just ahead of yours. Trust me, smart guy, I know all about the Keating Five, etc. etc. I'm not an idiot who is still drowning in the lie that is the Left/Right, two-party paradigm. Get over yourself and get a clue.

"Wants what's best for us"! Ha ha.

      Go Bob Barr '08!

      • Posted By: cromagnan @ 06/20/2008 2:52:04 PM

You are living in a CAVE. Open your mind and try to see the rest of the world and not your living room and your computer screen. You have no idea what it takes to remedy the problems we have TODAY.

        • Posted By: Judy Judy @ 06/20/2008 3:08:46 PM

Um, yeah. You got me. I live in a cave. I spend all of my time on my computer. I have no common sense and have all the time in the world to post meaningless disserations on the Keating Five on the Newsweek Comments board.

Seems to me that, if you truly believe that any politician only wants what's best for us (as you put it) then you are the one either living in a cave of with your head in the sand. Don't lecture me. You are obviously a guillible idiot who would appoint a leader over yourself simply because you are powerless to make change happen in your own life. You're a victim. You need the government. Yet you somehow believe that when the great State takes over that you'll somehow be at the top of the heap... spared the problems that are associated with collectivist, socialist, STATIST societies.

You're even dumber if you believe that McCain versus Obama is truly a battle between Right versus Left, or that there is any difference between the parties or their agenda. The agenda is POWER, my friend, and you don't matter. The State will see to that.

Try opening YOUR mind. Stop believing that within the heart of ANY politician lies a reserve of altruism. Stop giving your life and your rights over to the State, and stop believing that one side takes fewer rights than the other. It's just a sophisticated shell game, and you're dumb enough to fall for it. We all are. Every single election cycle.

Anyway, I reiterate... Bob Bar '08. Won't make much difference, but what the heck.

    • Posted By: Dansterpower @ 06/20/2008 2:48:17 PM

Thanks for expanding the topic to include G.W. -- but make no mistake. I don't support him, did not vote for him, and don't like Obama or McCain. Can you wrap yourself around that? The Topic that Obama is not who he seems to be, without making assumptions? Can you do that, Slim?

  • Posted By: gistca @ 06/20/2008 3:07:50 PM

Right On to OBAMA & The Dems, you swift boat bullbleeps for "RNC Truths" are only crying because he has peeped your hold card. AWe're not laying dead or playing dead this time around.

Yes, this brings him equal to every other politician in the History of the World who changes his mind when it favors his goals.
Yes, all politicians are self-involved hypocrites who are the least qualified creatures in the multiverse to rule us.
However, I like Obama's lies of positive change more than McCain's promises of a century of Middle Eastern blood and war.

Newsweek should just come out and endorse McSame. How irresponsible of Newsweek.

I can't figure out why anyone with a brain would vote for McBush. Then again, I still can't figure out how a man with the intelligence of a monkey could be our president for the last 8 years.
