Did Howard Fineman take this poll? He is so deep in the tank for Obama he hasn't seen daylight since November.

  • Posted By: News and Notes @ 06/23/2008 10:34:17 AM

Be extra careful. For months, Obama was leading Hillary in the polls in Indiana, and was up by about 15% in North Carolina. Then, the last week before those elections, Hillary was up 6% or so in the polls in Indiana, and closing in on North Carolina. That set up new expectations. When she won Indiana and lost North Carolina by a predictable 15%, it was considered a crushing defeat. All becuase of false expectations set up by polls. Be very, very cautious

Reason why there will be a slow bounce is McCain's inconsistency. Do republicans even really know this guy
    :
    * McCain used to oppose Bush???s tax cuts for the very wealthy, but he supports it.

    * In 2005 he said that he opposed the tax cuts because they were ???too tilted to the wealthy.??? By 2007, he denied ever having said this, and insisted he opposed the cuts because of increased government spending.

    * McCain strongly opposes a windfall-tax on oil company profits. Three weeks earlier, he was perfectly comfortable with the idea.

    * McCain supported the drilling moratorium; now he???s against it.

    * McCain thought Bush???s warrantless-wiretap program circumvented the law; now he believes the opposite.

    * McCain was against privatizing social security. Now he is for it.

    * McCain wanted to change the Republican Party platform to protect abortion rights in cases of rape and incest. Now he doesn???t.

    * McCain thought the estate tax was perfectly fair. Now he believes the opposite.

    * He opposed indefinite detention of terrorist suspects. When the Supreme Court reached the same conclusion, he called it ???one of the worst decisions in the history of this country.???

    * McCain believes the telecoms should be forced to explain their role in the administration???s warrantless surveillance program as a condition for retroactive immunity. He used to believe the opposite.

    * McCain supported storing spent nuclear fuel at Yucca Mountain in Nevada. Now he believes the opposite.

    * McCain believed the U.S. should engage in diplomacy with Hamas. Now he believes the opposite.

    * He wanted political support from radical televangelists like John Hagee and Rod Parsley. Now he doesn???t.

    * McCain said before the war in Iraq, ???We will win this conflict. We will win it easily.??? Four years later, McCain said he knew all along that the war in Iraq war was ???probably going to be long and hard and tough.???

    * McCain said he was the ???greatest critic??? of Rumsfeld???s failed Iraq policy. In December 2003, McCain praised the same strategy as ???a mission accomplished.??? In March 2004, he said, ???I???m confident we???re on the right course.??? In December 2005, he said, ???Overall, I think a year from now, we will have made a fair amount of progress if we stay the course.???

    * McCain went from saying he would not support repeal of Roe v. Wade to saying the exact opposite.

    * McCain went from saying gay marriage should be allowed, to saying gay marriage shouldn???t be allowed.

    * McCain criticized TV preacher Jerry Falwell as ???an agent of intolerance??? in 2002, but then decided to cozy up to the man who said Americans ???deserved??? the 9/11 attacks.

These polls this early aren't very meaningful, especially this early. I hope this doesn't give Obama and his supporters a false sense of security. Some Hillary supporters who are "leaning" towards Obama are doing so with the expectation that he will show more substance. He hasn't yet. He is a brilliant politician and orator, but he needs to show us more and reassure us more if he is going to win this election. It's not where he stands on the issues, it is his ability to deliver that everyone is waiting for. What kind of change can we expect?

I just found out the McCain's, who have Mega Money. have over $200,000 on credit cards, paying over 25% interest on it. Obama has over $200,000 in his children's educational fund. This was told to me by an Evangelical Christian. To him, today, "Family Values" is how things are going with his kid, not a catch phrase that gets his knee jerk vote. People have seen such depth of discussion in the primary they are not being moved by things that can be explained by simple explanations. And assuming that you can predict people by what demographic they fall into just doesn't reflect the thinking of the actual people I am running into.

    • Posted By: sharenews @ 06/23/2008 1:18:41 AM

. . . . and your point is. . . ? John McCain is at an age now in which his children are grown, we well taken care of , any schooling completed and McCain and his wife should be able to make expenses in their later years after raising a family. They have plenty of money to take care of that credit card, you holding their wealthiness against them? As for Obama, thats great, he is in his early years in raising a family and is wise to keep piling those dollars into a fund for his childrens schooling/college. So again, what is your point?

      • Posted By: marksgershenson @ 06/23/2008 1:27:19 AM

I think what is being said is that Obama is doing the right thing for his family and McCain is not doing the right thing because of his credit card debt. So it may seem that is good.....
        See the link below...

        • Posted By: dreffein @ 06/23/2008 2:42:54 AM

Cindy McCain is worth $100 million. $200,000 on a credit card is chump change for them. Jeez - with all the real issues, who cares about Obama or McCain's credit card debt. Next.

          • Posted By: sharenews @ 06/23/2008 3:00:56 AM

Hey Dreffein, how are thing going on your end? Do you know the answer to this question I posted about whether www.MoveOn.com acts like a 527 group in some capacity as that site does produce smear ads (e.g. baby Alex in the 100 yr war) at times.

            • Posted By: Pia1981 @ 06/23/2008 8:12:37 AM

GM Sharenews. What is the 527 moveon.org all about? I must have missed that. Discuss please, thanks.

              • Posted By: marksgershenson @ 06/23/2008 9:43:35 AM

I refered sharenews to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/527_group as a possible answer to the question. I used the argument since moveon.org does not need the Obama camp to approve the ad, therefore it might fall under the 527 category. Since I am not an expert, I also asked in my disucssion with sharenews if anyone knew for sure to please post.

I was trying to point out with all due respect that the presvious poster was making the point of what McCain wasdoing was somehow not good, who knows. Any amount @25% would be moronic, It does not take a math geniius to figure out that the amount he would owe would double in three years. I was showing sharenews where I think the person got the information from....

I will repeat one more time because of your remarks, our country is in serious trouble. We are in a quagmire that is costing 30billion a month, gas at 4.50 a gallon, people are choosing between buying gas or eating or going to work to buy gas and not have enough for food, uninsured is at an all time high, our federal debt, and deficit is kiling our economy, the mortagage crisis has created a recession in parts of the country, and GNP sucks, we lost 4000 plus men and women who's famiies are forever damaged....so before you next someone, read previous postings, and you may learn just a little bit more of my insights to what is going on....I reserve next for outright racist remarks, bigtory, defamation, etc.

If I don't know who the poster is,at least at a minum perhaps ask why they may have done that type of posting....I read sarcasim, I know sarcasim, next time b4 u insert foot into mouth and bite it, do little bit of inquiry. Sharenews and I share news, postings, etc and have had several disucssions over topics with mutual respect, and laughter...join the bandwagon you may have some fun too....

GM Dref., I agree. They need to pay that debt off. Perhaps Suzie Ormond can help, lol!

BTW, Dref. I saw your post about 'the wedding'. Cute! I will def consider inviting you if and when, since you did bring us together in a way. No plans to meet yet though since I need to think about it. Like I told Jim in my post on saturday, I usually don't let men pick me up on blog sites.

        • Posted By: sharenews @ 06/23/2008 2:02:04 AM

I went to the article you posted the link to and it still does not change my thinking. The McCains are affluent. They can accumulate a debt up to (at least now) $200,000 and pay it right off if they want. Maybe they charged something for 200,000 dollars planning to pay it off right away. And even if they do not pay it off right away, they have the money to majorly cover the balance. But even I have called my credit card provider and said Hey, get rid of this 25% or I will take it elsewhere. That Id slap them in the head about. But then, they dont have to worry about money. Just a fact.

      • Posted By: JustAJoe @ 06/23/2008 3:24:04 AM

The point was I was being told this by someone who was a "McCain Voter". He says he is going to vote McCain, but if you look at what he is doing, he sure looks like an undecided voter who is still gathering information. And his mind seems pretty open, if you ask me. Comment on the worth of polls.

Personally, anybody with pays 25% interest who doesn't have to is a financial idiot. I know, they have a lot of money and this is just some corner of their finances. They probably don't even deal with it personally. Sorta like running the Federal Government.

    • Posted By: onepoker @ 06/23/2008 10:23:43 AM

Its probalby a revolving card that they pay off everymonth. Its not unusual for wealthy people to have high expenses. I think the MCCain children will be just fine for college.

    • Posted By: Pia1981 @ 06/23/2008 8:05:33 AM

25% is insane! I'm under 5 and I'm no wealthy politician.

John McCain is So much More than a politician. It will be Refreshing to have a man like McCain serving as our president:

JOHN MCCAIN COMBATING AUTISM IN AMERICA

John McCain is very concerned about the rising incidence of autism among America's children and has continually supported research into its causes and treatment. He has heard countless stories about families' hardships obtaining a diagnosis for their children's autism and accessing quality medical treatment. He believes that federal research efforts should support broad approaches to understanding the factors that may play a role in the incidence of autism, including factors in our environment, for both prevention and treatment purposes.

John McCain was proud to lend his support to the Combating Autism Act of 2006, which he cosponsored, and worked to ensure its enactment. This law is helping to increase public awareness and screening of autism spectrum disorder, promote the use of evidence-based interventions, and create autism Centers of Excellence for Autism Spectrum Disorder Research and Epidemiology. John McCain understands that despite the federal and scientific research efforts to date, the exact causes of autism are not yet known and greater research is needed to understand this disorder. That is why in November 2007, he joined with Senator Lieberman in requesting the leadership of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, which has jurisdiction over federal research into autism, to hold a hearing on federal research efforts regarding factors affecting incidence and treatment in order to help determine where research efforts can best be directed. As President, John McCain will work to advance federal research into autism, promote early screening, and identify better treatment options, while providing support for children with autism so that they may reach their full potential.

this has been a big issue for Mccain for a while not just a single bill but we are glad that Obama supported it also.

Its early yet. . obama will be a mcgovern/dukakis. time wil prove him to be unsuitable especially for now. now they connected him financially with the ethanol industry which he champions severly. The American people are not stupid and I have faith that this huckster will not gain the confidence of the majority.

vote Mccain 08 he sucks less

  • Posted By: vakosh @ 06/23/2008 10:27:09 AM

Newsweek should change it's name to Obamaweek because that's all it's ever about , always positive in his direction, and borders on slanderous lies to prop him up. No such thing as "real" journalism anymore with this hack of a magazine.

  • Posted By: Micky Marsh @ 06/23/2008 10:17:54 AM

Yes I have no doubts, the number 15 will prove to be a very important number in this election year.

  • Posted By: Pia1981 @ 06/22/2008 8:15:13 PM

Citron16, I see from several of your posts that one of the main issues you have with Obama is that you believe him to be a Muslim. If he was, why would that be so bad for you? Muslims are human beings like the rest of us. Don't you agree? I really am interested in your answer, so if you could be so kind to respond, thanks.

    • Posted By: stevieraycharles @ 06/22/2008 9:25:28 PM

Citron16...does not answer direct questions aimed at his/her analysis. I will say I'm a little sorry for abusing Denmill and Citron...but not much. When they both begin to speak like humans they will be spoken to as such. I hope the posters of the interesting and informed comments understand my mirroring technique, and I hope you understand that, I am trying to clear the path for intelligent discourse, by running the unqualified off....You should see the damage I can do at the Fox News sites!!! Hoo-boy, like pickin' fish in a barrel! Anyway, I see a nice steam of somewhat intelligent thought and no sign of Denmil , I think my work here is done for now Vote everyone, whoever you want to vote for, but Vote...C U soon!

    • Posted By: rwethereyet @ 06/22/2008 9:59:46 PM

Possibly bothers Alot of people because "Obama Lied about it". We are wondering Why? Why would he say he is Not, when he is? It doesn't bother people that he IS a Muslim....it's because he "lied" about it.

      • Posted By: Pia1981 @ 06/22/2008 10:10:30 PM

Sorry, lying is not the problem citron has with this Muslim/Obama issue. The issue seems to be that citron believes Obama is a Muslim period and doesn't want a Muslim for president. I have seen enough of citrons posts within the last two months to have figured that out.

I thank you for replying to my post.

        • Posted By: Pia1981 @ 06/22/2008 10:19:00 PM

PS rwethereyet; I'd like to add that there is no proof that Obama is Muslim nor that he lied about it to cover it up. More smear tactics from Obama haters. It matters not though, because Obama takes the presidency in Nov.! Enjoy! I know I will.... at least 4 years of him and possibly another 4 in 2012..

          • Posted By: rwethereyet @ 06/22/2008 10:25:21 PM

It's a very close presidential race this election year. I don't think we'll really know the outcome until the very last vote is in. I do expect McCain to win. He is most experienced to lead America at this point in time. I will sure be Relieved when this is all over. I must admit, it's pretty Scary that Obama has the support he does "so far".

            • Posted By: Pia1981 @ 06/22/2008 10:35:22 PM

I wouldn't get my hopes up if I were you. McCain will lose. Remember, there are more registered Dems this year then ever. They will vote Obama. In the primaries Obama beat McCain in 40 states in the popular vote. In some states he wiped him out.

              • Posted By: sharenews @ 06/23/2008 2:30:35 AM

Did Obama really wipe McCain out to that degree? Where is the supporting link to confirm this is true for us undecided voters who are trying to learn more about McCain vs. Obama. Thanks.

                • Posted By: OldGamer007 @ 06/23/2008 9:59:10 AM

Check out realclearpolitics.com... As an example, McCain only received 1% of the vote in West Virginia. The more important numbers are total voter turn out, but with the republican party fractured in three pieces (Religious, conservative, and the neocon), it's hard to say where the chips will land...

Well, if you're scared now, hang on to your hat, because Obama is only going to get more support between now and November.

  • Posted By: votenic @ 06/23/2008 10:00:36 AM

Obama's lead is far more than 15 Points, McCain is slowly but surely losing his grip. There are too many people that want out of Iraq. http://www.votenic.com

Citron, I'm waiting for your reply to my comments. What happened? You were here, having a good old time, then poof, gone. Did I scare you away? I will find you and post my question to you again. Later.........

    • Posted By: marksgershenson @ 06/22/2008 11:38:13 PM

Everyone, including myself has called him or her out on his or her bs, plus the comments are racist, inflammatory, and sounds like he or she is full of bigotry. If a person posts reasonable comments, like myself, and you can look all over several blogs, then I respond in kind. However, when a person does what Citron does on postings, I will not tolerate the bs. I think most people have tried to show/cite different references indicating the postings that Citron have made are just what I stated.

I have plenty of patience, but I will not stand for bigotry, and statements that are off the wall. Citron is not the only one that has been called out on bs. I use these blogs as a learning tool, to grow, and respect other people and their opinions. Most do that with honesty, and integrity. Citron is a minority of posters who does not follow reasonable postings, respond to reasonable questions, and spews things that turn people off....

      • Posted By: Pia1981 @ 06/23/2008 8:25:26 AM

I completely agree. I may be wrong but I believe Citron may be a teenager and shouldn't be here posting.

My pundit's prediction: Obama will win the election in November. McCain has a few things going for him, but generally, he doesn't stand a chance with today's general mood across the land after eight years of Bush. Sorry, folks, but Obama will be it.

And you sound like an idiot. Seems if people refer to blacks the way you just referred to Denmil THEY would be called RACEIST and HATE MONGERS. Yet you choose the same way to refer to someone you don't agree with. I, for one, can't seem to find anything redeeming about Mr. Obama since there is NOT much to measure him on except his church, friends, and advisers,

    • Posted By: bwlear @ 06/22/2008 3:34:23 PM

It's hard to see something when your not looking for it. Try looking back at some of this guys post. While I dont agree with personal attacks, I do understand why he would call this particular poster out due to his demonstrated history. I didnt see him say anything racial in his attack so where does this "if he was black " thing come from? I thougt people of color were the ones who always play the race card.

      • Posted By: chindognyc @ 06/22/2008 4:33:53 PM

What is people of color? Please refer to black people as people, not people of color. Blacks have been through alot throughout history to deserve to be called a man or a woman. Not people of color.

        • Posted By: bwlear @ 06/23/2008 8:06:31 AM

Blacks are not the only people of color . The phrase refers to the majority of people on this planet. And as a black man I can call myself anything I choose, I have earned that right. And when I respond to the negetive, stereotypical, racial post, I feel it not just offends black people, but all people of color.

    • Posted By: stevieraycharles @ 06/22/2008 6:43:30 PM

No I am sure you are missing the point...I am mirroring him..Kida an anything you say Denmill bounces off me and sticks to you...It's fun and easy.......Like confusing Cheerleaders with something shiny.......Guess it went over your tiny tiny tiny mind Mr. God Bless U.S....you've really convinced me with your handle that you're true blue....LMAOAY! Simpleton!Waht I don't agree with is Denmills use of the language, so he will be talked about in the same manner in which he speaks of others...it works well on children, try it with your own, I'm sure, no doubt, neglected, misbehaving mewling little kids, which I'm sure you slap around after you get done with your wife....Isn't free speech great? Someday you'll get it...someday you'll love this country as much as I do...someday you will comprehend how to bring a bully to heel. Other thing is, who ever said I support Obama...I think neither person is really qualified. And stated such, or can you only read the little words? What I hate is fools thinking they can promote the exact discourse I'm shoveling directly and personally their way, when they start speaking without the hateful rhetoric, will get off of them, otherwise this is it 'til they clean it up. Some people make their beds, and then they must lie in them. Good luck with the reading thing.

Not sure how to poise this question but here goes.
MoveOn.org has produced smear ads in the past (one recently w/baby Alex going into 100yr Iraq war).
527 groups have produced smear ads in the past (may be some on the burner now)
Which is the worse of either method if both are capable of creating the same product which may be a Smear ad. Trying to figure out why MoveOn.org is not a 527 group. . . or is it?

    • Posted By: marksgershenson @ 06/23/2008 1:08:29 AM

I think the swiftboat ads against Kerry set the standard...I haven't tried youtube, but I bet if you hunt just a little bit there something will show up. I am not sure if MoveOn.org is a 527 group, however I would follow the logic based on the ad was not approved by Barack's campaign that it would fall under that category.

I am sure you know already based on my past postings, I don't want to assume anything, and if anyone who knows the answer to sharenews specific question, go for it.... Logically too it would seem to me that veteransagainstmccain would fall under the 527 too

      • Posted By: sharenews @ 06/23/2008 1:24:13 AM

I just saw one of that groups ad today on youtube, Veteransagainstmccain. I think you are right about that one, that it is a 527. It will be interesting to see what others also think about 527groups and the moveon.gov site (as I know it is not a group focused just on the presidental campaign, it represents many american causes in which people contribute to go up against various issues in this country.

If you believe wikipedia, which some things are pretty accurate, than the 527's listed there should be as I clear my throat accurate

hmmmm 80% of Republicans responded for MvCain and 80% of Democrats responded for O'bama. The Independents were 48 -36 O'bama but with 16% Undecided. Hmmmm. Doesn't sound like a 15% margin to me, does it to you?
And they were registered voters not likely voters. Keep posting the lies Newsweek.. It only serves to motivate true anti_socialist Americans to vote Against O'bama, the afro-centric Marxist. Lots of O'bamaniacs here today. Does he pay you or are you just happy to be trying to destroy America?

Awe what a good little sheep. you hit just about every one of the Sean Hannity/FOXpublican talking points that there has been, so cudos to you.
UNFORTUNATELY, as usual you are FULL OF RACIST SH!T! Nobody cares about Rev Wright, unless you just want to again boost his numbers and make him stronger, like each time it came up in the primaries. Also Only about 13% of voters still think he's Muslim, 13% why does that sound familuar? Oh yeah that is the combined number of people from Wva And Kn who said they would not vote for him because he's BLACK, not Muslim, BLACK.
You see I have figured out the whole "Muslim" joke. I refuse to believe that 43 million people can be that STUPID, when it is clear that he is NOT and NEVER has been a Muslim. He is however BLACK and always has been (at least half). It's not ok, or socially acceptable to hate himm for being "Black" you can't just come out and call him the "N" word, not anymore. BUT, you can hate him if you "believe" he's Muslim, right now that is acceptable socailly, now only by about 28% of the population, but it's easier to claim that's why YOU hate him and get away with it then to just say..."I hate that "N" word"...and it makes you angry that you can't just come out and say it, you think it should be your right, and it is, you're just a coward, so you say "Muslim" instead of "N" word. Shame on you RACIST.

It might be MORE than 15%, actually. Why? Because polling is taken from land telephone lines, not cell phones. Obama has an unprecedented young following who mostly use cell phones and no land lines, the polling is not reflecting any of those people. Obama's lead is higher.

Now that is a very interesting point I had not considered - but you are absolutely right. There are a lot of young people who only have cell phones.

So with all your ranting and raving, why bother reading Newsweek? Or are you afraid of a Black President?

Rasmussen is the only acurate poll company. The leftys always over sample democrats early in the cycle to give their guy a boost. As election day nears the Leftys dial back in so they don'y look like fools. Look at 2004. Rasmussen was exactly right. Obama currently has a five point lead with leaners.

    • Posted By: Cazador1972 @ 06/22/2008 12:26:32 AM

I disagree. In '04 Rasmussen had the least accurate sampling, giving the election to Kerry. If only they had been right!

Thank God Kerry lost and will run for Senate and the nation will not have to put up with him forever.I think 91% blacks and Brown are voting for BHO go figure it out who is race conscious.Race is on both sides you can trust it on blogs.Progressive or left wing leaners are die hard socialists who want to do nothing and want to be funded by Obama.
