Wow we might as well stick a fork in McCain, but one question. Why is the Gallop Polls showing a 2% difference and this polls shows 15%? I think once again the Media will print what makes Obama look good because they have to protect there investment. If they wanted to print the polls then show all of them. Why write a cover story on one poll when there are more polls that reflect a different showing. If Obama becomes president then he would of had a ton of help from the media and I for one don't like then the playing field is fixed so the outcome can go a certain way. The American people can follow the issues we need to deal with or they can play the soap opera and vote for Barack. At least in this movie we will know how it ends even before the credits begin to roll, it no need for popcorn ladies and gentlemen just hand my ticket stubb. McCain 08.........................

A presidential candidate is responsible to show what he wants to do and how he will do it once elected. So far, Obama's lectures are still skin deep. Voters have to know in advance what is underneath the skin. For example, is there a latent Wright virus tangled in Obama's genome? When American troops leave Iraq, how will Obama keep peace in that region or he does not care? I trust that Obama can do one thing better than McCain: To persuade black males take good care of their families instead of committing crimes on the street.

  • Posted By: devanbp@yahoo.com @ 06/21/2008 3:16:21 AM

Please give me a break. Less than a month ago this was a statistical dead heat. Now, with no significant news, he jumps 15 points? Newsweek's polling procedures obviously need help. I'm not a McCain supporter, neither do I care for Barack Hussein Obama. Anyone who believes this jump is a complete moron.

Amen to devanbp! Does anyone think that any of the Fortune 500 uses product research methodologies as bad as the American media uses for political polling? Frito-Lay would shoot any researcher who produced results with this wide a variance on the public's opinion of a new potato chip. And in Plano TX, they would get away with it under the old Texas law of "He needed killing!"

I think more important than anything else is that people go and exercise their right to vote...regardless of who you want.... polls change like the color of my wife's hair...depends on the speed of the gray, and which way the wind blows.... sit back and watch the show...this is just the beginning of the bs...

  • Posted By: spencerg @ 06/21/2008 5:54:16 AM

I guess Michael Hirsh drew the short straw. No one in their right mind would want to defend a poll result like this. Of course, since Hirsh has so little credibility any way (his normal articles are proof that being a journalist doesn't make you an expert in anything) he may well have volunteered to write this nonsense. And to think that Meecham complains that college kids prefer the Economist!

Hahahaha, y'all are so UPSET by one little teeny bitsy poll, just MONTHS away from the real deal... why bother posting such frustration - it only makes you look desperate.

Poor McCain't - Ain't it a McShame he's gonna lose!??? Oh, no, wait a minute -- the Bush will start a war in Iran to support Israel and your big WAR HERO will come ALIVE!!! He will end up winning, fear not!!! War profits are just too GOOD TO PASS UP in an election year. Vote for the one who can profit by mass death and destruction the MOST. That would be the GOP candidate.

Oh, they've had their day in the sun already - they've already spoken. And what a huge silver foot they've put in their collective mouths, to coin an Anne Richardson joke. BORING OLD FARTS - Let them all retire and go live in Florida with their pots of money in offshore accounts in Nassau. Big deal. Go away and let the real people run the country.

Corrected copy - Stereotypes - Brent Robert Barry proved that White men can jump. Tiger Woods proved that black men can play the "elite" game of golf.. Both of them have championships under their belts. However if they and the American people had still believed they were "out of place" we might not have experienced their magic.. Lets get past the "race card waste of our time" and on to doing what Americans do best. That is making use of the abilties of our citizens. Lets show the world that the statue of liberty is not just a big doll, but the mother of the greatest race the world has ever seen. That our strong belief in equality justifies our championing of it in places like Iraq and Zimbabwe. I am a black man who is still consideringl who to vote for in the elections. . As a retired military man I know where Senator John McCain's heart lies and that he deeply loves America. At any rate, I will make my decision based on who will do the best job for a country I spent my entire adulthood defending. Odd as it seems, the success of Senator Obama's campaign has "freed me" to do just that. To exercise my right.to vote free of race, creed or stereotypical impediments. So can we please move on to dscussing the economy, world problems and the like. The sooner we see the race divide in the rear view mirror , the sooner we can make the best of the new century we have been given. The men and women who I saw die for America got us to this point. In honor of their memories, lets make the most of it. In either case you will be voting for a TRUE AMERICAN.

What have you been smoking? If it isn't clear to Americans at this point who is ruining this country and who the REAL threat is, then maybe our great experiment in democracy will simply fail. What's funny again about the comedic stance you are taking love234america, is the beauty of the fact that you are the one so horribly imbibing from the toilet of the Media...your every word shakes with the fear and loathing they want you to have. Secondly, I would be careful with the things you say and the people you support...you are making accusations about a man that you know are not true, when it is indeed a matter of congressional record that George Bush Grandfather had his bank taken away for working with the Nazi's, George Bush's Dad currently sits atop the 5th largest defense contractor in the worldalso funded by The Bin Ladens, I mean who's kidding who?

Stop trying to step on someone who is truly trying to help us out and get us back on track. My goodness, is it so important that we keep the GOP in control? Why can't we try the Left out for a little while - we'll end up in the happy center anyhow. I for one would love to see our health care system totally overhauled - take the "insurance" out of the term altogether - the insurance companies should be eradicated from the equation.

Is,nt it interesting how polls are so ACCURATE when a Republican is ahead and grossly INACCURATE when a Democrat is ahead? Obama is a Media "Darling"? The Media is not kind to ANYONE so it's far past time to get OFF that kick. That Dog wont hunt anymore.Know this,John Mcain is a very good Man and fellow Veteran of D-Nam era as I am "BUT" it's "YOU" To far right radical Conservatives who are blinded to the history the Republican Party the last 12 years and REFUSE to see clearly that John McCain has embraced President Bush policies? If you love high Gas prices--Job exportation--War---Tax breaks for Big Oil
Companies and Big business -- and Veterans returning home with no place to lay their head and millions kicked off the VA System for the FIRST time in American history--then vote for George Bush for the THIRD time.

    • Posted By: WhenStarsTurnBlue @ 06/21/2008 1:16:51 AM

McCain is not a conservative. Why do you think Rush and all those conservative talking heads are in an uproar that he's the nominee? They all hate him because he's a moderate.

      • Posted By: raddave @ 06/21/2008 2:21:36 AM

Correction, McCain WAS a moderate, until he was defeated in 2000.

        • Posted By: WhenStarsTurnBlue @ 06/21/2008 2:40:45 AM

If McCain wasn't still a moderate in 2004, why would Kerry want to run with him? It's only the last couple years he's been trying to appeal to conservatives a bit more to shore up his run in 2008, but he's still a moderate.

          • Posted By: Concerned Ctzn @ 06/21/2008 4:32:28 AM

Once again, I totally agree with you. I've already said this several times, but I'll say it again: McCain is no angel, nor is he the perfect candidate, but the truth is he has far more experience and leadership qualities than Obama.

I don't think any of us will ever find a candidate that we totally agree with on every single issue, so as voters, we need to look at the big picture. I simply pick the candidate that I feel is most qualified to be CIC and that I feel most comfortable with. For me, that happens to be John McCain.

  • Posted By: gneubeck @ 06/20/2008 8:09:28 PM

The circus comedy that constitutes the Obama campaign. This is a scenario that has repeated itself multiple times on other issues. On terrorism - Obama is asked a straight forward question on his anticipated policies to combat terrorism; and, he responds in an equally forward manner that he would handle the issue as a police action. The McCain camp immediately exploits Obama's naive response, correctly highlighting Obama's dangerous inexperience and lack of understanding of the gravity/complexity of the issue. Obama's handlers immediately haul him into the cloak room; advise him that his response was feeble and misguided; tell him what he should have said; and, send him back into the public forum, teleprompter in hand , to read his handlers prepared text on the latest version of his position. The Main Stream Media immediately chimes-in lauding Obama for what he meant to say on the issue all-along!
Unequivocally, Obama is the equivalent of a circus clown; a stand-up comic; a circus-barker attempting to lure the mentally-challenged into the tent with promises of an epiphany; a Charley McCarthy mannequin that appears to lip-sync the commentary from his ventriloquist controllers. This man is an virtual imbecile who is totally without the capacity to speak intelligently on issues on which he has not been previously programmed by his puppet masters. P.T. Barnum was right on target when he observed: "There's a sucker born every minute." ; but, hopefully the American electorate will not be duped by such a charlatan. Greg Neubeck

Gneubeck - your ideas belong to a tiny, uneducated minority. Even those logical around you endorsing, well whoever it is you do, would 'unequivocally' disagree with you. To claim that Obama is not intelligent just shows your own naiveties.

    • Posted By: WhenStarsTurnBlue @ 06/20/2008 8:19:45 PM

I've noticed that with Obama the last several months. Everything from him saying he'd invade Pakistan to talking with leaders without pre-conditions. Suddenly a few days later, his position is entirely changed after his Democrats leaders had to quickly teach him what to say. It's like he's a puppet, and it really scares me.

Even on little things, like hte flag pin and Jim Johnson. First he says it doesn't matter that he doesn't wear one, or that he's won't vet his vetters, but suddenly you see him in flag pins everywhere and Johnson went bye-bye. He does everything he's told to do. He's not a leader.

America please wake up a realize the sickness we have been fed by the Bush Administration. Give Obama a chance; he is the best chance we have. We can only hope that we won't let us down but we know that McCain is going to the nothing different from what we have suffered thru for the last 7 years: lies and more lies. America please give the man a chance I think he will return the country to the things we once stood for, for the things that so many have died for and for the things that have always made this country the shining light of the world. In a short time we will be able to forget the nightmare we have had living at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and the fact that the whole world knew our President was a total fraud. Please get behind Obama, the man deserves a chance.

I'd have been more than happy to vote for a Democrat again in the GE this year if we had a more moderate, experienced candidate. The more I research and learn about Obama, the less I agree with him on nearly all the issues, particulary his strong pro-choice views of wanting to lift the ban on partial-birth abortion.

McCain may be a Republican, but he's a moderate and has a strong history of working with Democrats. So strong that Kerry considered him for VP in 2004. So my stances on the issues are more similar to McCain's than to Obama's. McCain ran against Bush in 2000, and has different views than Bush does, so comparing him to Bush just doesn't hold water with me. I wish McCain would've won the 2000 nomination, as he was doing well until Karl Rove sunk him with those horrible rumors about his adoptive daughter being an out-of-wedlock love child with a black prostitute. I started to dislike Bush from the beginning for stunts like that.

I'm not voting by party lines any longer. I'll vote for moderate candidates, and avoid the liberals and neo-cons. They're just too extreme for me.

      • Posted By: Concerned Ctzn @ 06/21/2008 4:07:44 AM

Good voice of reason. I feel the exact same way. I was really impressed with Gov. Bill Richardson. I thought that he and Joe Biden had the most experience. In fact, I would have easily voted for a Richardson / Biden ticket. Oh well, McCain it is. I see him as a moderate as well.

      • Posted By: raddave @ 06/21/2008 2:16:34 AM

Obama doesn't want to lift the ban on partial birth abortions. Where do you people come up with this ***?

        • Posted By: WhenStarsTurnBlue @ 06/21/2008 2:30:55 AM

The media, Obama's record, and Obama himself:

          http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/04/01/AR2008040102197.html

          http://www.ontheissues.org/Social/Barack_Obama_Abortion.htm

          http://www.barackobama.com/2008/01/22/obama_statement_on_35th_annive.php

The first thing he'd do if elected President is to sign the Freedom of Choice Act, which would take away state's rights to put limits on abortion. Most state prohibit partial birth abortion, but Obama wants the ban lifted. He says a woman has the right to choose, but I don't think any woman should be able to go through with such a barbaric procedure. It's too gruesome and inhumane.

our country is in a recession...we want a 9.5 trillion dollar deficit to go away, we want the 30 billion dollar a MONTH quagmire to go away, we want to honor, mourn our losses, and remember the 4000 plus who gave up their lives, we are tired of the last eight years, we want forward looking leaders....are you better off than you were eight years ago? Do you enjoy paying 4.50 a gallon? And finally about tax hikes, where is the money going to come from to pay off our deficit? Answer those honey and then we can further discuss issues that afftect a majority of the US....I am being easy on you....ask Hollyroller what I can do when blanket statements are made....

      • Posted By: csc5502 @ 06/21/2008 2:11:41 AM

Apparently you can do NOTHING about blanket statements that are true. There is no recession. When the economy is growing, by definition it is not a recession. 4.50 for gas? Obama refused to say he was against that; he said he just wished it had happened more slowly. Since he won't let us drill, wants to punish the oil companies, etc. exactly how will he lower that? Wind powered cars? Give me a break.

        • Posted By: marksgershenson @ 06/21/2008 3:46:22 AM

You made a silly example with the gas prices creating a recession...no, it starts with the subprime mess, people are upside down to their loans, foreclosures, etc. We have created our own perfect storm...sadly, we have handed our power over to our government and big business more so over the last eight years...yes you can site examples of takeovers in the 80's at the start of this mess and argue that the result of what we have now was partially created by the rule of the largest size rules

A balanced federal budget does help stabalize the economy. Sure the mess was created by politicians, but who elected the politicians in office...we did...so we the people need to show that we mean business by voting, and turning the power back to the people who put the politicians in office.

The power of innovation will make or break our country. I like the idea that oil companies change their brand to energy companies...inviting more creativity in the marketplace...we are in a transition period that may take up to a decade to start seeing the effects of us getting off of foreign oil...we are already in a quagmire for oil...

And finally depending on what part of the country you are in will determine if you are experiencing growth or not...we are just seeing the tip of the iceberg with our economic issues...the saying goes if you are out of work, it feels like your in a recession, if you are working, there is no recession....perhaps your lucky not to be unemployed...tell an unemployed person that there is no recession and see what they tell you. Remember statistics of growth are as good as the data that comes in and from what part of the country you are talking about....

      • Posted By: csc5502 @ 06/21/2008 2:40:57 AM

By the way, the $9.5 trillion is TOTAL federal DEBT. Annual shortfalls are call "deficits." That debt has been rising steeply since the 1970s, when it first hit $1 trillion under Carter. Both parties' presidents and Congresses have run it up. The monthly war budget is about $16.2 billion for Iraq AND Afghanistan, NOT $30 billion a month. Casualties? In Vietnam it was 15 KIA/day. Iraq? 2.3/day. All too easy.

And btw usually I do use the right terms usually have taken micro and macro econ classes....so my bad....but the bigger question is, do you want to keep things the way they are and I never get a straight answer....please enlighten me...thank you...and btw depending on what part of the country you are living in, will determine if there has been growth or no growth, or contraction...I need sleep....

Until then I won't consider voting Democratic. I will continue to push for improvements in the Republican platform however.

Oh well, thank you so much for your help - the GOP can sure use a hand - it's got a serious image problem. BIG GOVERNMENT, BIG SPENDING, BIG TAXES (in future generations, due to the war)... ALL THE BAD THINGS THAT THEY accuse the "liberals" of...

I for one want an INTELLIGENT PERSON leading our country - someone I can admire, respect and support.

The GOP has produced no good candidates since Reagan, and even he wasn't that great... by some measures.

The only way to pull together and solve these problems is to vote out the republicans, get out of Iraq and start spending some of that money to improve the lifes of our own citizens

You make little sense. Logic is a friend. Try and connect with it.
Stick with a complete economic and social failure..... Why?

In reading polls, check out the bias of the pollster. Rasmussen, for example, is right-wing biased if you look at the questions in the poll and how they are asked. Rasmussen polls will favor McCain. So check ALL polls to see the other questions asked and the responses. In Rasmussen latest polls over 70% think off-shore drilling will help reduce oil prices, a patently absurd idea but one the Republicans are promoting. Any question with that kind of response will inform you who the bias favors. On the other hand, if you find a poll where the other questions show a 70% support for withdrawing troops from Iraq, that will indicate the bias of that surveyed group. Before criticizing the NEWSWEEK poll, wait to see other polls within the next few days and what other questions are asked in the polling. By the way, NEWSWEEK tends to be more central than TIME magazine that has long been a right-wing vehicle. US NEWS is also bias toward the right. NEWSWEEK varies from story to story, but is middle of the road overall. Newspapers such as the NEW YORK TIMES and THE WASHINGTON POST bias toward the left, so look at their polls carefully. It matters a lot what questions are asked and how they are asked in addition to the presidential preference questions.

Barack Obama???s dream is???Bring about real change, change that we can believe in. His passion for change is the pillar of his authentic Personal Brand. Parts of his speeches: ???America is a land of big dreamers and big hopes. It is this hope that has sustained us through revolution and civil war, depression and world war, a struggle for civil and social rights and the brink of nuclear crisis. And it is because our dreamers dreamed that we have emerged from each challenge more united, more prosperous, and more admired than before??????.The true test of the American ideal is whether we???re able to recognize our failings and then rise together to meet the challenges of our time. Whether we allow ourselves to be shaped by events and history, or whether we act to shape them. Whether chance of birth or circumstance decides life???s big winners and losers, or whether we build a community where, at the very least, everyone has a chance to work hard, get ahead, and reach their dreams???.Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek???. I don't want to settle for anything less than real change, fundamental change - change we need - change that we can believe in. It's change that I've been fighting for over two decades ago. Because those dreams - American dreams - are worth fighting for???.
    ---------------------------------
Dream it, hope it, believe it, fix it in your mind, visualize it, accept it, respond to it with love, passion, and integrity, give your peak performance to it and you will achieve it

no dream + no hope + no self-knowledge + no thinking + no mindset change + no integrity + no passion + no trust + no love = NO SUSTAINABLE CHANGE
