I must be losing my mind. I am writing statements here in a discussion forum like I am going to change anyone's mind about anything. From what I have seen there is only a handful of people that have any sense whatsoever that I would like to have a real conversation with regarding the issues (e.g. mrzoid, etc.).

At the end of the day, no matter what is said about anything, we are all going to go to sleep no wiser, with no minds changed.

I become suspicious when I read that Newsweek has Obama 15 points ahead of McCain in their polls. In all the other national polls Obama is not leading with those kinds of a margins at all. He is leading by 4-6 points which is within the margin of error. I wonder who the people are that Newsweek polled. Newsweek is a totally leftist magazine, It does not surprise me that their polling is off the wall.

  • Posted By: seriouslyppl @ 06/21/2008 12:23:00 AM

This is frightening... Obama's "government will fix all" plans and his stance on foreign policy is setting us up for disaster. We thought G W was bad, but wait until Barack's inexperience and flawed polices take control... I wonder what all those so called "freedom fighters" will do once we leave Iraq... now is not the time to put a novice in the white house.

The National Poll of Polls has Obama 46%, McCain 40%, with 14% undecided.

This poll is often closest to the truth because it compasses many different interest groups, by combining poll data from Gallup, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, CNN, NBC, ABC, Fox News and Newsweek. Because it is a combined poll, it does not have a margin of error.

Puleeeeze Nins, spare us huh. BTW did you have time to take my new survey/poll?

  • Posted By: The truth hurts @ 06/20/2008 11:14:19 PM

The fact is every poll indicates that McCain is losing. Even Fox news. It is what it is.

I guess you haven't got the memo either? So I guess I'll have to repost here.

Cross-dressin', GOP Turncoat, Murdork & Co (FIX News/WSJ) signed on with KID FOX (BO). Let's face it, the Geo-Elitist know a sucker (puppet) when they see one.

Ohh don't worry ... Murdork will still have Bill O'Wrighty play it off like they still stand for conservative values. But it's all just a game to them. In fact, you Ultra-Libs should be thrilled to have all the NEOCON-ARTISTS JOINING THE 'O' TEAM! AM I WRIGHT OR WRONG?

Michael Masters of Master Capital Management, LLC (a global investment management company) testified before the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs just a couple of weeks ago. Here are quotes from his testimony:

"Today, Index Speculators are pouring billions of dollars into the commodities futures markets, speculating that commodity prices will increase. In the popular press the explanation given for rising oil prices is the increased demand from China. According to the DOE, China's demand for petroleum has increasde in the last five years from 1.88 billion barrels to 2.8 billion barrels, an increase of 920 billion barrels. Over the same five year period, Index Speculators' demand for petroleum futures has increased by 848 million barrels. THE INCREASE IN DEMAND FROM INDEX SPECULATORS IS ALMOST EQUAL TO THE INCREASE IN DEMAND FROM CHINA. Index Speculators have now stockpiled, via the futures market, the equivalent of 1.1 billion barrels of petroleum, effectively adding EIGHT TIMES as much oil to their own stockpile as the US Government has added to the Strategic Petroleum Reserve over the last five years."

"The Senate has asked the question "Are Institutional Investors contributing to food and energy price inflation?" And my unequivocal answer is "YES." In this testimony I will explain that investment banks are one of, if not the primary, factors affecting commodities prices today. Clearly, there are many factors that contribute to price determination in the commodities markets; I am here to expose a fast-growing yet virtually unnoticed factor, and one that presents a problem that can be expediently corrected through legislative policy action..."

The US Commodity Futures Trading Commission is ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL. They are supposed to be protecting us form these kinds of abuses, but Bush has allowed loopholes in the CFTC regulations that you can drive a truck through. An oil truck, that is.

Look, there IS a SUPPLY issue too - I'm hardly one to defend Bush, but I do know the oil business.

Read Matthew Simmons' presentation to the Pentagon in Feb. 2008, when prices were just topping $100/bbl. It's not the speculators causing this price spike - it's a goddam supply issue. We are PEAKING OUT ON PETROLEUM. The geologists of the world know this. The oil biz execs don't want us to believe it, but Matt Simmons has been telling the truth - he's a financial analyst in the oil business.

      • Posted By: Nins @ 06/21/2008 12:07:33 AM

Sorry, NoTrouble, I usually agree with you 100%, but when investment banks have stockpiled as much oil in the past five years as China has consumed, then I would say that stockpiling is a bigger issue than supply is right now. However, you are right that the oil is going to run out. We have maybe 20 years left of high production. If we don't wake up NOW and start investing in clean renewable energy then we are doomed. And it will be our own fault for being stupid enough to follow the pied pipers Bush and McCain down the road to ruin.

        • Posted By: notroubleatall1963 @ 06/21/2008 12:14:47 AM

Okay, I don't know much about speculators... and I certainly agree with you, we need to wake up and do something! There is no substitute for petroleum and we use it in EVERYTHING. It will be the End of the Oil Era when we do run out.

Peaking out is not the same as "running out" - it's just the point at which estimated worldwide production (supply) is maximized - from then on, it's in depletion mode - and I am truly not sure that we have 20 years. The analysts like CERA and API are so in the pockets of the oil business they're drinking the same koolaid (I hate that BLOCKED EXPRESSION and Simmons is the only one to tell the hard truth.

I'm on your side too, nins.

Hey wake up "GULLIBLE AMERICANS"! I Also believe Chauvinistic ideals are behind the "Secret Anti Hillary Campaign". If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position, and if it's a woman (of any color) Chauvinistic closed minded males wouldn't let her be in this position either. BUT WE'RE TALKING "HILLARY CLINTON FOR PRESIDENT" the most loved and respected wife of The Greatest modern day President of all time, "BILL CLINTON", and also the most loved husband and wife team in the history of politics. Read the Blogs see what the people really think. And as for Florida and Michigan, I and most sensible Americans believe the Democratic National Committee decision was WRONG for Florida and Michigan, Obama and Clinton's name was on the ballot but Obama chose to take his name off the ballot in Michigan, and that was his decision and his problem. There are 50 states in America and all should be allowed to vote and "ALL" votes be counted. People Know Corruption when they see it. Trust me! -----------------------------------

McCain't AIN'T winnin' -- boo hoo - the white boys in the country will have to do somethin' quick - plan to cheat at every swing state poll possible. Start plannin' boys, you're gonna be pullin' some serious all-nighters. Oh, if and if all else fails, and your boy really does lose despite all cheating and bribing behind the scenes, I'm sure you'll think of something else equally underhanded. Bringing "Dignity and Honor to the White House" (by hook or by crook) - that's the GOP boys for you.

I don't know what you're referring to. I'm referring to the coup d'etat that James Baker and Bush Sr staged to get Bush Jr. "elected" after Gore had clearly won in the Florida exit polls. Never has there been anything so shocking since the JFK assassination - that was another conservative Texan behind that: LBJ. No more Texans in the WH - they come from a long line of crooked sheisters and killers. They're dangerous - if they're not out cheating, they're out dragging some poor fella behind a truck till he's dismembered, or cheering and jeering when a national leader is shot on their territory in front of the whole world. Ignorant crooks, the lot of "em! At least the ones in politics....

Too many people watching this time!!! You'll see ... come Nov. all you BO supporters will finally realize how inaccurate or rigged the polls are. John McCain will win! In fact, I'm not too thrill about JM either, but he's leaps and bounds better than BO!

Corrected copy - Stereotypes - Brent Robert Barry proved that White men can jump. Tiger Woods proved that black men can play the "elite" game of golf.. Both of them have championships under their belts. However if they and the American people had still believed they were "out of place" we might not have experienced their magic.. Lets get past the "race card waste of our time" and on to doing what Americans do best. That is making use of the abilties of our citizens. Lets show the world that the statue of liberty is not just a big doll, but the mother of the greatest race the world has ever seen. That our strong belief in equality justifies our championing of it in places like Iraq and Zimbabwe. I am a black man who is still consideringl who to vote for in the elections. . As a retired military man I know where Senator John McCain's heart lies and that he deeply loves America. At any rate, I will make my decision based on who will do the best job for a country I spent my entire adulthood defending. Odd as it seems, the success of Senator Obama's campaign has "freed me" to do just that. To exercise my right.to vote free of race, creed or stereotypical impediments. So can we please move on to dscussing the economy, world problems and the like. The sooner we see the race divide in the rear view mirror , the sooner we can make the best of the new century we have been given. The men and women who I saw die for America got us to this point. In honor of their memories, lets make the most of it. In either case you will be voting for a TRUE AMERICAN.

Depends on how YOU look at it. There are things Bush has done that I am disappointed with, but that comes with any president. I can say Obama scares the crap out of me. I'm interested in knowing how he's going to pull us out of economic slump, provide FREE college education to everyone, and provide free health care, too. And truly, how are we in an economic slump? Just look at the amount movies pull in each weekend, the number of passengers on an airplane, the number of people who eat out at expensive restaurants on any given night, and more. Nobody's driving any less. Yes, I agree, times MAY be a little more difficult for some, but what happened to hard work? I don't make THAT much money. I had to pay my own way through college with two or more jobs and scholarships. I'm not asking anyone for anything, and I respectively ask the same of others.

Democrats are still pro-choice, pro-consumer, pro-education, pro-civil liberties, pro-net-neutrality!!!, pro-healthcare, pro-gay rights, pro-environment, anti poverty, anti Iraq war, anti trying to teach our kids ID in science class rooms.............

Basically the Democrats still have a construct......and the Republicans have reduced THEMSELVES to talking points rhetoric. The GOP preferred when they were in power to NOT DO THEIR JOBS.

I want SMART people in our government who believe in the rule of law.

The way the world looks to me right now.........and believe me...I've been paying close attention to our leaders these last 15 years................. I can tell you in no uncertain terms.......that ONLY Democrats will get my vote....and the Democrats win in 08.....there is no debate.

                • Posted By: WhenStarsTurnBlue @ 06/20/2008 7:55:43 PM

I'm voting Repulican for the first time in my life because I'm sick of Democrats right now. My first vote ever was for Clinton. Then there was the whole shameful Monica mess, but I kept thinking it was some right-wing conspiracy against him, so I got over it. Then I voted for Gore, only to watch him bumble everything and let Bush win FL. I didn't think Bush would be as bad as he was, and when he said we should invade Iraq in 2002, I was stunned. I never thought it would actually happen, I thought the Democrats in both houses would stop him. No such luck. Then Kerry, one of the most liberal yet boring guys in the Senate, somehow was the Democrat nominee in 2004. He was swift-boated and should have won handily. He had a muddled message and was "for the war before he was against it." Then in 2006, I thought if the Democrats took control of both houses, we'd get out of Iraq like they promised. I live in a swing state and voted and encouraged everyone I knew to vote. And look, here in 2008, we're still there and they're still promising we'll leave if we elect them into office. And we have Dean running the DNC about as horribly as can be imagined, with the MI and FL mess and throwing Clinton under the bus. And the Democratic nominee is the most liberal and inexperienced, a dime a dozen first term Senator that looks good on camera and comes from the ruthless style of Chicago politics while promising everything to everyone.

So yeah, I'm tired of Democrats. I've voted for them my whole life, and they've always disappointed me. They've become more and more liberal, while I get left behind as a moderate and ignored. At least with McCain, he's a moderate and I agree with more things about him than I disagree with. And he has a strong history of working with both parties and isn't always 100% loyal to his party as Obama is. I've been a fan of his since 2000 when he ran back then, and had hoped Kerry would put him on the ticket in 2004.

....and of course the original posty didn't dare answer............

You're probably a toe tapping republican propagandist tool?

Funny that no one can tell me why I should vote GOP this time, using the GOP as the example.

I guess Republicans have allot of "coming-out" to do.

                    • Posted By: WhenStarsTurnBlue @ 06/20/2008 9:07:38 PM

No, I'm not a Republican. If anything, I consider myself a former Democrat who's now an Independent. I'm against ultra-conservatives and ultra-liberals taking extreme views while in office, and will now vote for the moderate candidate and not just blindly follow party lines.

And when I post here, I always type what I feel. I don't resort to copying and pasting the same thing over and over again on every topic, or taking someone's talking points. I'm a real person who starting posting because I was so fed up with Dean, Pelosi, Reid, and Kerry and the DNC that I just wanted to express my displeasure somewhere. I'm not a Republican fan by any means either, but I do admire McCain. The more I learn about him, the more I like him.

I am a statistician by training and the 1000 person sample size infers a great deal compared to the 300,000 person AOL poll recently conducted that had McCain in front by over 20 points at the time I took it. One can argue all about who owns a computer and who owns a telephone, but one would think the 300,000 person sample of much greater value.

    • Posted By: jbkmcd @ 06/20/2008 7:01:41 PM

BTW, a response of 2 million from readers of the National Review would also not compare....

      • Posted By: Speculator @ 06/20/2008 9:44:03 PM

Good point. But I had no idea AOL was considered a conservative source for information or that AOL users were more conservative than the general population. If anything the information presented as news on AOL rarely appears conservative and many of their questions they use for polls very leading.

        • Posted By: ladeyday @ 06/21/2008 12:04:33 AM

From what I've seen, AOL subsribers lean conservative. Hence, those results.

    • Posted By: jbkmcd @ 06/20/2008 6:59:51 PM

Only people without the slightest understanding of statistics would argue that. AOL is not a random sampling of the population by ANY means. Methodology absolutely counts and internet customer polling that is done based on willingness to supply a response within a specific base population does not even come close. Sorry...

      • Posted By: Speculator @ 06/20/2008 9:22:26 PM

You appear to be new to the art of polling. Don't get lost in the who does the selection of the sampling. That's the problem with the way most polls are administered. People participating have to find the time and want to particiapte in the poll. No poll is a random sample because even though the administrator tries to sample randomly, the proposed participants still have to agree to take the poll.

The war in terror is about preventive defense. Listen to what the bad guys say everyday, should we not take their own threats seriously? The current administration may only get a "C" from me, but at least they understand that the entire developed world, from the UK to Japan faces a an existential threat from a determined and relentless enemy who has promised they will destroy us. I wish it were not so, but when they threaten us and then kill us, we have no choice to go to where they live and handle this. Peace comes from victory, it does no good to be the last guys in the ovens.

The only way I can imagine it is if we engage with them by sending our sons and daughters to the goon's homeland with no real understanding of their culture or values while demanding that they embrace our culture and values. In the US we tend to value independence. Why do we enter other countries and then get confused at the resident's fierce independence of their societies? Look, we were "over there" long before 9/11. It's time we rethink our attitudes about these people. I'm not antisemitic, but I still just don't get why our country backs the Israelis to the hilt. Is there some payback for this that I'm not aware of? This relationship is the very reason why most people in the Middle East despise our country. I would rather see us pull completely out of all relationships with Israel first, and then see what happens in that part of the world. It's not as if Israel is defending our shores now is it?

After I saw a YouTube clip "Obama Hits/Strikes Back", I now know that Obama has the "balls" to stand up for our citizens and country. Obama smacked down McCain in his rebuttal to Bush/McCain saying Barack lacks foreign policy experience. McCain isn't even knowledgeable on foreign affairs or he just keeps forgetting important facts. Obama stated that the Bush camp has no room to speak about foreign policies, since theirs failed. ANd they are responsible for not bringing the "publicized" culprits behind 9/11(OBL and Al Quaida). Then Bush and cronies(McCain) decided it was better to forget catching OBL and ivade Iraq. What a crock of sh*t the "WMD" excuse was. I recommend everyone see that latest speech/rebuttal by Obama.. You will see he has a STRONG counterpunch and will be able to defend himself and our country from all enemies as President.

Sorry, DO NOT BELIEVE YOU. THE MEDIA IN AMERICA HAS GONE NUTS. YOU ARE ALL OBAMA LOVERS AND WILL SAY ANYTHING TO GET HIM ELECTED. ARE YOU ATTEMPTING TO GET THE VOTERS WHO DISLIKE OBAMA SO DAMN MUCH BECAUSE HE IS A LIAR AND INEXPERIENCED, A RADICAL WITH RADICAL MUSLIM FRIENDS, TO STAY HOME ON ELECTION DAY? THE MEDIA NO LONGER HAS ANY INTEGRITY AND IS TO NOT BE BELIEVED.

I know. Delusions can be brought on by stress. You probably think HRC won the most votes too.

Go lie down and get some sleep. You need it.

Looks like HRC's 18 million voters are giving the boost to Obama!

and it is raining in Los Angeles too... did the media have integraty when Bush was elected eight years ago? Can you explain why you have caps on? Are you screaming in fear that a Black man may become president, and that perhaps their is something more to it like BIGOTRY....NEXT!!!

Like the one about the election where the contestants are a Respected Senator/ War Hero/ Generallly good man from inside the beltway who has been married to old American Brewery $$$Heiress for some time now....And a Woman who's Husband was President for two full terms and was a huge Legal insider in politics for years before that..and a man who has been grinding it out on the streets for most of his political career, who actually knows his constituents coz step by step they got behind him from when he first started in community politics...Okay the punchline is...somehow the Dude who's been hands-on ginding on the ground is the ELITIST!!! Kinda like the one where the Candy-assed child of oil Barons somehow convinces the nation the war Hero is a fake??!!!
