Barak Obama???s Effort To Court the Evangelical Churches

I definitely support Barack Obama???s decision to court the Evangelical Churches.

But I wonder - is there even one Evangelical pastor who will, in front of the congregation, consider it to be his or her duty to Jesus Christ, to pose the following questions to Barack Obama:

    1. When have you last attended a church service to pray and worship the Lord, without delivering a campaign speech?

    2. Over the last 5 years, how many times have you done that - limited yourself to only praying and worshiping at a church service?

    3. Since you left the church which you had attended for the past 20 years, have you bothered to become a member of any other church?

    4. If so, what church, and what is the name of its pastor?

    5. How do you reconcile your professed moral belief and Senate voting record that it is perfectly acceptable to terminate a human life either 2 minutes before that child would be born, or else at birth by a partial birth abortion procedure, whereas it should be considered murder for that child to be killed 2 minutes after having been born?

    6. Is it acceptable for you to lie to the public in order to become President of the United States?

    7. Does your campaign actively and ardently lie or ???distort the truth??? in order to succeed?

    8. Are you dishonestly ???playing the race card??? in order to delude a visible minority of the American population to disproportionally support your campaign?

I believe that any Christian minister has a profound duty to ask those questions in order for all religiously motivated persons to discover whether Barack Obama truly ???talks the talk, and walks the walk???!

I REALLY WISH PEOPLE WOULD KEEP RELIGION OUT OF POLITICS!!! I personally do not appreciate having your worshiping practices shoved down my throat. SEPERATION OF CHURCH AND STATE WHY DO SOME OF YOU CHOOSE TO FORGET THIS!!!!!!!

        sjpersonal -

        Hello!

Sharenews mentioned your screen name to me a few days ago, and I was looking forward to reading some of your posts.

With regard to this one, I wholeheartedly agree.

But since Barack Obama seems to be the one who has decided to visit Evangelical Christian churches to preach and campaign from the pulpit to their congregations, it might be worthwhile for you to direct a firm statement to the DNC to inform it that you disagree with that reprehensible tactical behaviour.

That empty suit has demonstrated that he has no couth.

Now, Hillary definitely wouldn't stoop that low - she should serve as a prime example for that undisciplined Barack Obama!

And it does appear that John McCain, by his very demonstrated avoidance of participating in that demeaning behaviour, would also endorse and respect the concept of separation of church and state.

So, if this issue is tantamount to you, you can definitely vote your displeasure.

        Good luck!

Hope to hear from you again!

cowens123456 fine tuning, pandering, flip flopping may not constitute lying. If someone flipped on let's say... going greener like McCain did, one could argue that as agreeing with the majority of the voters. The same for most of the other numerous flip flops of his. Nothing wrong with that is there? Isn't that what a candidate should do, represent the views of the majority when then think it's correct to do so?

On the other hand lying might be the correct term for a person that would send troops to their deaths in a war he knows was cooked up by the Republicans, is morally wrong and a position he is taking to further his own ambition and to get the ultra Righties to support him.

Again sorry for the typos, can't see what I type when the lines are below the box and my keyboarding skills really suck.

    • Posted By: Davole @ 07/05/2008 10:12:19 AM

      Lori -

You explain that your occasional typos might be a result of your your problem seeing what you type when the lines are below the box.

What do you mean by "the box"? Are you referring to the discuss and /or reply window for posting your comment?

Quite frequently I notice that this window is partly, or occasionally almost totally, obscurred by the bottom of the computer screen. That does present somewhat of a challenge. Usually what I do to alleviate this problem is to click on the down arrow located at the bottom of the right side (the Republican side) of the screen. If you were to do that, after waiting about 15 - 20 seconds, the window will rise in its display location, and then you would be "set to go".

With regard to your statement that your keyboarding skills really suck - I think that many of us share that same affliction..

      Keep on blogging!

Yes, I did mean the Reply box. On some of the articles the Reply box will expand if I get too long winded but on this article the box does not expand.
BTW Davole, feel free to expand your horizons and comment on other articles on Newsweek if you haven't already.

    FROM THE GALLUP POLLING:

80% OF AMERICANS SEE MCCAIN AS CAPABLE OF HANDLING THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF COMMANDER IN CHIEF:

    July 3, 2008
Nearly All Americans Consider Military Service PATRIOTIC

Symbolic gestures valued more highly by older Americans and the less educated

    by Lymari Morales

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Nearly two-thirds of Americans (62%) say serving in the U.S. military reveals "a great deal" about one's patriotism, ranking it second only to voting in elections among six items rated in a recent USA Today/Gallup poll. More than half of Americans (53%) say the same about reciting the pledge of allegiance, and far fewer about wearing an American flag pin.

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama spent much of this Independence Day week trying to assure voters of his patriotism, having been faulted during the Democratic primary season for at times not wearing an American flag pin, and for not placing his hand over his heart during the national anthem on at least one occasion. Obama's speech on Monday, entitled "The America We Love," included praise for Republican rival John McCain's service to his country in Vietnam, in response to retired Gen. Wesley Clark's statement that McCain's experience as a Navy pilot and prisoner of war does not necessarily qualify him to be commander in chief.

McCain's service in Vietnam is generally considered an advantage in this wartime election against Obama, who has never served in the military, and a key reason why:

80% OF AMERICANS SEE MCCAIN AS CAPABLE OF HANDLING THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF COMMANDER IN CHIEF:

The Gallup data reveal that Americans do in fact consider military service in general to be a sign of patriotism. While Republicans are among the most likely of all groups to say serving in the military reveals a great deal about one's patriotism, more than half of both Democrats and independents agree. Republicans also tend to place more value on saying the pledge of allegiance and wearing an American flag pin, while independents align more closely with Democrats, who are generally less likely to place a high value on each action.

between Lori and Davole, they should I/M each other, get aol names and I/M. both need to meditate, relax, deep breathe 50 times a day and say people have rights to his or her opinion, criticiism is of one own opinion like my opinion of you two to be nice to other people who post opinions who you do not agree...take it easy anger leads to high blood pressure, ulcers, stroke, heart attack and consequences that can do lots of damage. I suggest yoga, mediation when a posting is not to your liking. even if you don't like what I say, breathe you will live much longer. may peace be on you and Lori

Thanks for honouring me by your tail-end statement that you are proud of me.

Generally, I do not concern myself with whether or not I am proud of myself - rather, I am humbled by the fact that my God has endowed me with the ability to speak my mind honestly and, maybe even, forcefully.

With all due respect, I ask of you - if you are truly proud of me, as you say, would you please respond to my 3 replies within the past 3 days to posts from your group?

Within that same time frame, I have directed a reply to Nins in reference to one member of your group who has stated in a post that your group has been responsible (I hope that wasn???t what many of us would possibly call a ???boast???) for 2 previous bloggers on this site ceasing to continue to post. If you would care to do so, please also ???feel free??? to respond to that reply.

          Let???s begin respectful meaningful dialogue!

Thanks for taking the time to apologize to my friend, Lori.

I was surprised - I have only viewed this site for approximately the past 2 weeks, and that is the first time that I have ever seen you apologize to anyone.

I admit - in this instance, you demonstrated that you are "man-enough" to respond.

Blogging has kept me from thinking about the insane itching and keeps me from scratching. Davole, is there much poison ivy in Canada? Don't remember that we had much iin northern Michigan but Indian grows a bumper crop of it.

                  Lori -

You asked me whether there is much poison ivy in Canada. I think that it is more prevalent in the southern regions, in woods, back alleys, and probably in the rough and treed areas of golf courses.

It can be quite a debilitating and aggravating problem.
Have you tried using calamine lotion, and if so, has doing that provided any relief for you?
I hope that you manage to recover from it soon.

In Canada and the US, we all have the freedom to decide FOR OURSELVES what we should and should not do.

We do not rely on, nor subjicate ourselves to blindly following the edicts or wishes of others in our conduct and actions.

Lori and I reject your post trying to tell us what we should do.

I believe that you are a welcomed immigrant to the US. As such, I would SUGGEST THAT YOU CONSIDER whether you should respect and adopt the protocols and etiquette of the country in which you now reside.

Mc-Insain seems to be showing the full-blown effects of Alzheimer's:

Sen. John McCain has long presented himself as that rare bird in politics: an inveterate straight-shooter. But does campaign strain have McCain's Straight Talk Express veering off course?

A string of incidents stemming from the senator's two presidential runs suggests he's no less fallible than any other candidate, and just as capable of adjusting facts to suit his purpose.

    1. Confederate Flag Over South Carolina Capitol, April 19, 2000
During the run-up to the South Carolina Republican primary in February 2000, McCain was asked whether he felt the Confederate flag should be removed from atop the statehouse.

Non-truth: McCain stated publicly that it was up to South Carolinians to decide.

Truth: Two months later McCain said he believed "the flag should be removed from the Capitol". "I feared that if I answered honestly, I could not win the South Carolina primary. So I chose to compromise my principles," he said. "I broke my promise to always tell the truth."

Source: "Excerpts from McCain's Remarks on Confederate Flag," New York Times, April 20, 2000.

    2. Economics Expertise, Jan. 27, 2008
Non-truth: When confronted with his own remarks about his economic prowess during a Republican primary debate, McCain said, "I don't know where you got that quote from. I'm very well versed in economics." In a later interview on NBC, McCain added that he's "very strong on the economy."

Truth: McCain was asked about a quote he gave The Wall Street Journal in a November 2005 interview in which he admitted he lacked expertise on economic issues. The quote read: "I'm going to be honest: I know a lot less about economics than I do about military and foreign policy issues." I still need to be educated."

McCain told reporters in December 2007, "The issue of economics is not something I've understood as well as I should."

Senility, Alzheimer's, or just a plain ol' LIAR.......................?

      Kboogie -

Wow - you dropped your fighting weight class from intellectual heavyweight to novice flyweight in record time!

How did you achieve that remarkable feat?
I guess I never realized the effect that a laxative followed by a few hours in the washroom could achieve.

So McCain actually confessed that way back in 2000, he had compromised his principles by breaking his promise to always tell the truth.

Now you attempt to criticize him for having the honesty and decency to admit that he had made a calculated wrong decision 8 years ago. Somehow you are content to ignore the fact that he CONFESSED to having yielded to making that one dishonest decision.

In comparison, just in the past 4 months, Barack Obama was exposed for choosing, over a period of 20 years, to regularly associating with a racist preacher, and accepting campaign funds from a person who had intended to blow up the Pentagon, and a few other criminals. But when that information became public, the great messiah REFUSED to confess, and merely offered lame excuses for his misbehaviour.

Now I ask you, in comparison, who was the more contrite individual, and the more forthright in his apology? And who showed the greater amount of courage by his actions?
Be honest with yourself, for the public are not all fools.

CC was a Republican who claimed to be living in Canada, however was most likely living here CC took my advice to breathe lots of fresh American air, take chill pills and cc disappeared from the blogs. Hollyrollercoaster the same. I give welcome advice.
I tried with votenoababma he may need medical help if he doesnt cool down. remember people blog for various reasons, Nins which I have the upmost respect, only presents factual newsitems to enlighten and help people grow. Davole you and reporterperson like to think that engaging with someone shows strength. where I come from it shows the opposite, weakness, and insecurity.
Sharenews like nins, drivers of wagons, hdavidson, pia, and many others all try to present intersting articles with backup by research, show where they research and post to enlighten people which help me go into my zen because I am an advid learner. I am glad I am having help with my English this evening.
Sometimes when people know they are right, and the other person/someone is wrong, one-upmanship does absolutely nothing to prove or make your point stronger. Where I come from, I back down and humbly respect the other person, even if I know they are off and move on without saying I told you so. That shows strength and humility. Perhaps you, Davole and Reporterperson may learn something by what I am saying.
Have peace in your life, be humble show humility. The end of the world is not happening regardless if McCain gets in office or Obama. They both want whats best for our country. Life is not always about arguments who wins/loses.

Please explain the context in which you have stated "Gosh, if you are responsible for getting Concerned Canadian and Holy Roller off of this blogsite, then GOD BLESS YOU."

Do you think that the 3 members of muslimsforpresidents have accomplished a good thing, by supposedly driving 2 possibly radical bloggers from this site, and therefore they should be blessed, as a reward?

Or do you believe that their claim has been a detrimental accomplishment, and that a blessing from God is in order to help them to be more receptive to actually entering into, and encouraging discussion with those 2 bloggers or anyone else, in order to thereby foster a mutual tolerance for differing opinions?

Whatever your intended motivation may have been, I do agree - GOD BLESS THEM!

There are three of us who are posting to this name. We wanted muslims for president, but it was taken, so we chose the name with a plural at the end.
The three of us consist of one person from Sri Lanka, who has been living in the United States for over 20 years, one of us is from Pakistan who came here as a child, and one of us is blue blood native to the United States. We are all best friends. Two of us are indeed Muslim, one is Jewish.. It may sound shocking but true. We have 150 years of life experience between the three of us.
Our families live near each other, one Muslim is a practicing Muslim with a Muslim wife, one friend is a nonpracticing Muslim with a Christian Scientist wife, and my jewish friend has a jewish wife.
We are all tired of the misconceptions that have been taking place, especially since the elections about various religions, and it affects the presidential race.
We have all been to temple, mosque, and church. When the three of us see comments about unrealistic postings, distortions, bigotry against Muslims or any other religion because we share in the three major religions with our families, one of us will blog. We are a true melting pot of idealogy
You have seen some postings of the philosophy of modern day Muslims living here in the States. It is true, we try to practice calm, practical, and a realistic view of people. When one of us says take deep breathing, seek help, is because we have seen in our lifetime people getting sick from anger. When we see people deciding to belittle other peoples comments because of what are perceived as not as well thought out, name calling, etc., we call people to task. Sometimes, because English is the strength of two of the three of us, we may sound corney, but our interests are always in a good spot.
When we see somebody like votenoobama rant and rave, we become concerned because one of us has been exposed to the type of prejudice that he or she spews, or reporterguy, because they think they are higher and mightier than anyone else who has opinions. That is why you may find philosophy posted among the comments how people should look at each other. When we see positive, we make positive comments. We do not live by blogging, nobody from any campaign is paying us, but the election this year is so important, if we see something out of place, we speak up without hesitation, and hopefully some learning will take place that will benefit all of us. The three of us and our familes are very concerned about politics, especially after the last eight years of damage that has happened.
We want to wish all a very happy 4th.

I think Davole makes a good point below. I think it would be nice if you are all going to continue to post to at the end of your post use some sort of sign off that would indicate who wrote the post. If it is the couple who is Jewish perhaps sign off Shalom perhaps. I will take your posts more seriously now that I know why they did seem to be form different peiople.

Welcome to the Newsweek blog site, and thanks for explaining who you are.

Is it circumventing Newsweek registration policy by enabling several persons to post as the same screen name or identity?
              And should it be permitted?
Is it honourable and American to exploit that possible loophole, if it is truly a loophole?

Isn't it reasonable for all bloggers on this site to expect that the comments posted by any screen name reflect the specific views of a specific person?

Otherwise, what is to stop a group of 20 persons to use the same screen name, such as Christians, democrats, university grads, supporters for Obama, etc.?

And if 3 of the 20 were foul-mouthed radicals, would it be fair to the others in that same group?
Would it be fair for others to malign the whole group due to the postings of one member of the group?

Also, if another blogger outside that group were to challenge a comment which had been posted by the group, any other member of that group could claim that "I didn't say that.".
Would that be shirking integrity - on one hand, posting a radical comment, and then on the other hand, claiming that I didn't say that?

If your group of 3 have any respect for the concept of fairness, would it not be fair to subdivide the group by
providing some sort of differentiation such as muslimsforpresident - commenter 1, 2, or 3?

Also, doesn't the establishment of a group whose members all use the same screen name foster a possible "thug operation" whereby all members of that group could alternately or collectively attempt to "browbeat" anyone with whom the group disagreed?

Do the concerns which I have expressed merit a reply from your group, or any specific member of your group?

              Respect and celebrate Independence Day!

      Kboogie -

And then you bring up that McCain stated in 2005 - ???I know a lot less about economics than I do about military and foreign policy issues. I still need to be educated."

I interpret that quote to mean that he honestly stated his relative strengths, and weakness. And he even acknowledged that he was humble enough to admit that he needed and was willing to be educated.
But he did not state that he knew NOTHING about the economy.

Now contrast that with Obama???s statement - wow - where is it - oh yeah - I will bring change, and hope, and change and hope, and change and hope......

Do you realize that he has said nothing about his actual demonstrated abilities and strengths, or lack thereof?

And from this, you attempt to portray McCain as a liar and a person suffering from Alzheimer???s.

Kboogie - you definitely have an inability to analyze without bias, and to draw honest, realistic, and meaningful conclusions!

Again, Its been a pleasure sparring with you!

But I hope that I didn???t really do too much damage this time to your glass jaw.

If you decide to take a few months off to recover, I'll understand.

Did you know McCain has had 4 different campaign managers? McCain just can't get it right. He keeps changing managers, as if it is their fault that he can not succeed. Fact is, McCain is NOT a good candidate.

After his first run at the Presidency when he got swift boated by Bush, his manager John Weaver got McCain to play "Maverick" and cross party lines to become a NeoLiberal. McCain almost changed parties and became a Democrat and Kerry's running mate, but at the 11th hour he switched horses again and hired Terry Nelson to manage him. Nelson is a strong GOP establishmentarianist, and got McCain to throw himself behind Bush, with promises of the GOP giving him the 2008 nomination. But Nelson didn't last, because the strategy failed. The right wing was suspicious of McCain because McCain voted against abortion, for gay rights and for gun control during his "maverick" phase. They didn't know if they could trust him. Also, Nelson spent money hand over fist, nearly bankrupting McCain's campaign. So he replaced him with Rick Davis, who was at the helm for the past year. Davis is a fiscal conservative, made McCain sell that expensive big bus, and made McCain mind his manners and act polite in public. But now, Davis has been fired too. Why? Because McCain is getting desperate, and the gloves are coming off. His new manager is Steve Schmidt, a Rove disciple and former Rove employee. McCain has also hired Nicole Wallace and Greg Jenkins to head his "Communications Team." Nic and Greg are also former Rove employees, masters of the art of swift boat smear campaigns. McCain going to let the Rove bulldogs off the leash. Look out, America, this is going to get ugly.

My prediction: the 20% of America that is made up of ignorant jingoists will be cheering to see Rove's bloody tactics. But you know what? They were all going to vote for McCain anyway. The rest of America will be so disgusted by the hatchet work of the NeoCons that they will vote AGAINST McCain.

The "last resort" tactic of the GOP to win this election will be to bomb Iran, starting another war. Mark my words, if McCain is not doing well in September, Bush will bomb Iran. He is already setting the stage for this, by saying that Iran has nuclear weapons, even thought inspections by the United Nations and the International Atomic Energy Agency have both found NO EVIDENCE of nuclear weapons. REMIND YOU OF ANYTHING? It's the fake "weapons of mass destruction" all over again.

Did you know that on June 26, Bush, very quietly, declared a state of National Emergency? During a National Emergency the President can DECLARE WAR without waiting for the approval of Congress.

    http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2008/06/20080626-4.html

It is going to be a very bumpy ride, America, so hold on, and DON'T LET BUSH AND ROVE STEAL ANOTHER ELECTION. I wouldn't mind so much if they were good for the economy, but let's face it, they are destroying America.

      Nins -

So, McCain has had 4 campaign managers - maybe he regards Obama as such a lightweight that he is willing to ???spot??? him 4 points this far before the general election?

What is your basis for your statement that 20% of America ???is made up of ignorant jingoists???. Provide confirming evidence not merely your unfounded supposition.

You???re not a Republican - they do not resort to using the word ???NeoCons??? - democrats do.

Previous posts have asked why you would ???think??? (if you are even capable of that) that invading Iran would be favourable to the Republicans As usual, you just ???cut and run??? after posting, and you do not respond to bloggers who challenge your preposterous assumptions.

You allude to fake WMDs - again, you just ???cut and run??? after posting, without ???sticking around??? to read any previously posted opposing viewpoints in that regard.

If, as you say, that ???on June 26, Bush, very quietly, declared a state of National Emergency??? - who heard him say that? Did he whisper it in your ear? Did anyone else hear him say that? Was that declaration recorded anywhere? Come on Nins, you???re assertions are really preposterous regarding this allegation of yours.

Nins - wake up! Bush is not running for a third term presidency.
Aren???t you even aware that this would be impossible, just like your alleged thought process?

Nins - if you were actually a Republican, you wouldn???t believe or maintain that Bush and Rove stole an election.

Nins - provide verifiable evidence that Bush and Rove ???are destroying America???.

Nins - why are you always ???hanging around??? that kool-aid machine?

      • Posted By: Nins @ 07/04/2008 1:27:01 AM

Dear Davole, My assumption that 20% of Americans are ignorant jingoists comes from the fact that 17-20% of Americans believe that Obama is a Muslim. In order to believe that you have to be either ignorant (uninformed) or a jingoist.

For some reaon you think that only Democrats are allowed to use the word "NeoCon." I have no idea why you think that. I am a Republican, and guess what? Like millions of Republicans, I am just SICK over how the NeoCons have infiltrated and destroyed the Grand Old Party. NeoCon values a la Karl Rove are NOT traditional Republican values.

Invading Iran is favorable to McCain because McCain has positioned himself as a hawk. Frightened Americans who are tricked into thinking that Iran has nuclear weapons aimed at us will want the "safety" of McCain, a military man. Too bad it is all a puppet show.

Yes, I post my blogs and move on. Do you really expect me to wait around for your putrid comments? As to you criticism that I cut and past, I can only laugh, since your posts are full of those triple question marks (???) that Newsweek inserts when someone has coped the material that they are posting.

And I always respond to other bloggers who request more information or factual data. I even usually respond to people like you, the frustrated right wingers who try to smear my reputation because I post well researched verifiable facts that threaten you. In fact, when five or six right wing hatchet workers jump on at the end of my blog, I know that I have done a good job. If the truth that my blogs reveal scares you that much, I am honored.

And my post gave the link to Bush's declaration of a National Emergency. Maybe you were too lay to follow it through?

Lastly, I detest Kool-Aid. Always did, ever since it first came out. Gross stuff, worse than rice pudding.

        • Posted By: Davole @ 07/04/2008 11:46:34 AM

          Nins -

You state that your ???assumption that 20% of Americans are ignorant jingoists comes from the fact that 17-20% of Americans believe that Obama is a Muslim???.
What evidence do you have to support this second claim?

You have stated - that invading Iran is favorable to McCain because McCain has positioned himself as a hawk. Frightened Americans who are tricked into thinking that Iran has nuclear weapons aimed at us will want the "safety" of McCain, a military man.

In lieu of the current level of dissatisfaction regarding the war in Iraq, why wouldn???t Obama benefit from a decision by Bush to invade Iran? Do Americans not trust Obama to be a capable leader in this regard?

As to you criticism that I cut and ???past??? (I think that you meant paste), I have never criticized you in that regard. Provide evidence that I have ever accused you of cut and paste!

But I have asserted that you CUT AND RUN. Do you understand that distinction?

Your accusation does exhibit a lack of attention to detail. And that is why I have challenged several of the other statements which you make in your blogs.

You state that you ???can only laugh, since (my) posts are full of those triple question marks (???) that Newsweek inserts when someone has coped the material that they are posting.
In reply to a previous post in which you made that comment, I have explained that I use quotation marks either to directly quote your statement and then refute it, or else to use a slang expression. Can you understand that?

Also, you mentioned that you posted a link to Bush's declaration of a National Emergency.
You suggested that ???maybe (I was) too lay (did you mean lazy?) to follow it through.
That specific link provided information regarding a Presidential Executive Order pertaining North Korea - Now how is that relevant here in reference to Iraq?

Nins, I am asserting that the accuracy of your statements is flawed by your lack of attention to detail.
You dismiss that as ???blah, blah, blah???

Nins, if you are truly a patriotic American, consider celebrating Independence Day.

Why did the US military cancel a news conference where they were going to display the "Iranian" weapons they found in Iraq? Because there WERE NO IRANIAN weapons to display. Here are links supporting the fact that the weapons found in Iraq did not come from Iran:

    http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/archives/individual/2008_05/013695.php
    http://www.americanprogress.org/issues/2008/05/fire_next_time.html
    http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/babylonbeyond/2008/05/iraq-the-elusiv.html

NOT TO MENTION that the Untied States itself has had a notable role in arming the insurgency. When the US dissolved the Iraqi Army, that flooded Iraq with weapons. More recently the Pentagon admitted that it had lost track of a third of the weapons distributed to Iraqi security forces in 2004-05, totaling 190,000 assault rifles and pistols that are currently on the streets of Iraq. The British paper that published this article got it's information straight from the US Government Accounting Office's public website: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/pentagon-admits-190000-weapons-missing-in-iraq-460551.html

Ask yourself, why would America want to pretend that Iran is pushing weapons in Iraq, when actually WE (the USA) has flooded Iraq's streets with weapons? Because Bush wants to declare war on Iran, and just like the fake "WMDs" in Iraq, he needs something to frighten Americans, so he comes out with this BS about Iran killing US soldiers in Iraq. He has also said that Iran is making nuclear weapons, but recent inspections have found NO EVIDENCE of nuclear weapons in Iran. JUST LIKE how repeated inspections found NO EVIDENCE of WMDs in Iraq. The reports of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the UN inspectors and nuclear experts at the Institute for Strategic and International Studies (ISIS) all agree that Iran DOES NOT have nuclear weapons. The IAEA report states that Iran only has "low enriched uranium, not the highly-enriched uranium necessary to produce a bomb." The ISIS reports states "It is important to note that they do not encompass the full scope of work required for a comprehensive nuclear weapons program. Missing is theoretical work on nuclear weapons, uranium metallurgy, and the development of a neutron initiator." http://www.yirmeyahureview.com/articles/2008/iaea_report_on_iran.htm#_ftn9

In case you think the idea that Bush wants to bomb Iran is reactionary, you should know that John Bolton, former US Ambassador to the UN, recently told FoxNews that he can "definitely envision Bush bombing Iran before he leaves office." By bombing Iran, Bush makes it more likely McCain will be elected. But can the US Treasury, can the US economy stand more war? Even if we could afford it, we don't have the manpower in uniform. You know what that means: draft and conscription. Vote for McCain. Watch your children come home in body bags. Watch America go into a Great Depression.

      Hello again, Nins:

Reporter Guy has ???beat me to the punch??? on this one, (I was composing and sending a reply to one of your other posts yesterday), but I???ll add my comments now.

Hopefully you will be ???man-enough??? to respond to our comments!

I also noticed the ???Untied States??? reference. Was that deliberate, or accidental?
As a bit of friendly advice - a feature called Spell Check could possibly be of use to you.

Did you notice your grammatical error ???WE (the USA) has flooded Iraq's streets... ????
I know that to err is human, but grammatical errors do prompt the reader to wonder whether, if the writer is sloppy with his presentation, is he also sloppy with the accuracy of the information?

In your reference to ???the fake "WMDs" in Iraq???, are you referring to the WMDs which Saddam Hussein had used to gas his own people a few years earlier?

You state that ???by bombing Iran, Bush makes it more likely McCain will be elected???.
Would you care to explain why that action would tend to support McCain?
Why wouldn???t it rather tend to support Obama, who would then have the opportunity to denounce your President George W. Bush, and enable the democrat candidate to immediately travel to Iran to apologize and surrender to the Iranian radical government?

And I???m glad to see that you dare to introduce the topics of draft and conscription.
If Obama is so determined to surrender by withdrawing US troops from Iraq and Afghanistan before the current war is won, and then at a later date has to resort to redeploying US troops to invade Pakistan to apprehend Osama bin Laden, yes, draft and conscription will probably ensue. And if that terrorist is captured, Obama has assured the US population that Osama will have full citizen rights to be tried in a civilian court.

Lastly, Nins, you speak of a ???Great Depression??? - it has already begun - it is known as the democrat party!

Now, in retrospect, was this your own comment, or was it an Obama camp talking points circular?

      • Posted By: Nins @ 07/03/2008 1:30:15 PM

Dear Davole, it seems odd to me that you criticize my typos and imply that I have stolen my ideas form the Obama campaign, when you blog is full of those question marks that Newsweek throws in to show that a person has copied their text from somewhere. Who is doing the sloppy posts that have been copied? That would be you. "Untied" was a typo for "United" which is quite obvious from the context. Spell check did not catch it, because guess what? "untied" is a real word. (Duh.)

Sorry I used "has" instead of "have." That was my error. "Have" was correct, although "has" was correct for what was in the parentheses. The meaning is not obscured. And do you really think it matters?

Other criticizing minor flaws in my grammar, is there anything you can say about the CONTENT of my blog? Can you discuss the ISSUES it raises? Can you refute any of the FACTS I relate? Can you come up with any facts of your own, and provide references and links so that other people can check your facts?

        You can't? Somehow I didn't think so.

I am a Republican, and a fairly conservative one. I am NOT leftist, nor liberal. I am an AMERICAN who really HATES IT when my President lies to America, and drives our economy into the ground. So I write blogs to show people the truth of what is going on.

What do you do to stand up for what you believe? Seems to me, you mostly indulge in spreading lies and calling other people names.

        • Posted By: Davole @ 07/03/2008 10:15:07 PM

          Nins -

With regard to your salutation to me, you may decide to change that ???Dear Davole??? to ???Fear Davole???!
I will expose you as a fraud, and incompetent blogger.

          I must confess - I made a mistake!
I actually credited you with having some degree of competence and professionalism - that was definitely an error on my part.

Very observant of you to notice those question marks which Newsweek displays - I???m impressed.
Now put on your ???thinking cap??? to try to understand why they are shown. Any relevant ideas?
I use question marks for either of 2 reasons.
          1. To draw attention to a quote, often yours, so that I can proceed to show where it is inaccurate or a blatant fabrication - a lie.
          2. To use a slang word or expression. Have I ???lost you??? already?

To answer your question - you are the person who has done ???the sloppy posts that have been copied???.
I guess that one has come back to ???bite??? you, eh?

No, I disagree with you when you try to ???squirm out of it??? by stating that ???Untied??? was obviously a typo that should have read ???United???, due to the context. Your typos are sloppy, your accuracy is sloppy, your inferences are sloppy, and your conclusions are sloppy - ergo - your whole comment or discussion is sloppy.

But I do notice you using the word ???Duh??? - good, you???re actually trying to think now.

          • Posted By: Nins @ 07/04/2008 1:29:39 AM

Blah blah blah.... It is not even worth my time refuting this drivel. It would be great if you could stick to the issues, but you are incapable.

        • Posted By: Davole @ 07/03/2008 10:07:38 PM

And I chuckle when you admit that you did use the wrong word ???has??? instead of ???have???, and then immediately, you do an ???Obama??? by trying to rationalize that your mistake wasn???t really a mistake. You???re really looking quite amateurish now, just like he does when intellect and integrity ???come into play???.
And yes, I really do ???think it matters???. Don???t you?

What you regard as the minor flaws in your grammar reflects a sloppy presentation of sloppily opinionated biases masquerading as facts.

I have already said a lot about the CONTENT, ISSUES, and NON FACTS of your blogs.
When will you be ???man-enough??? to discuss the content, issues, and facts of my 3 recent posts and replies directed to you? Again, I repeat - are you ???man-enough???, to competently respond to them?

I challenge you to do that, instead of ???turning tail??? and running which appears to be your modus operandi for dealing with responses.

I have provided plenty of facts in those 3 posts to which you fear to respond, point by point. Logic and reason substantiate my facts - I don???t need to supply meaningless references and links from biases snooze sites as is your fashion.

Keep saying that you are ???a Republican, and a fairly conservative one.... NOT leftist, nor liberal???.
Nins, we are not ???ninwits??? (I think you get my ???drift).

You state that you hate it when your President lies to America.
Please be specific here, if you can - which lies? Can you provide proof that they are actually lies? Your statements do not become facts just because you keep on repeating them. Your viewers dispute what you allege to be fact.

        • Posted By: Davole @ 07/03/2008 9:59:38 PM

With regard to your assertion that your president has driven the US economy into the ground, can you substantiate this allegation? And are you blindly ignoring the fact that the economy began to collapse almost immediately after Congress came under the control of democrats, and that your President has faced a daily barrage of criticism and obstructionism ever since. Why do you think that your President's popularity rating, although low, is almost double that of Congress? Can, and would you dare to explain that?

Your blogs do not show people the truth of what is going on . They merely reflect your poorly substantiated conspiracy theories - generally - a dime, no, make that a nickel, a dozen.

You dare ask - ???What do (I) do to stand up for what (I) believe?
I post replies refuting the unsubstantiated opinion which you portray as fact.

Yes Nins, it may seem to you that I ???mostly indulge in spreading lies and calling other people names???. Now would you be ???man-enough??? or ???woman-enough??? to provide even 5 examples of those false assertions that you claim are fact?

Go ahead, Nins, respond to my challenges, instead of ???turning tail??? and running for cover.

Nins - you can fool some of the democrats some of the time, but you can???t fool all of the democrats all of the time!

And a bit of advice to you - I haven???t even begun to ???take the gloves off??? with regard to you and your falsehoods!

Nins is avoiding this article now except for her "hit and run" cut and paste ramblings.
Nins is however reacting to my calling her an Obama plant by now accusing me of being a plant.
That is a common phenomenon with the mentally unstable, they accuse the person of something they are. I would quote my source for Nins but it was from my Psychology text book and I sold it in a yard sale years ago. Perhaps Nins, who claims to be a medical doctor , could tell us what that coping mechanism is.coPsychology book and I sold it in a yard sale after I graduated from nursing school.

Yes, Lori, in general I post my blogs and leave the site, because I am not interested in watching you get into dog fights.

You right-wing bloggers are trying to smear my reputation because you are threatened by my posts that show McCain's true weaknesses. I always post well-researched bogs full of verifiable facts. I give links so people can check the facts. All that you do, Lori, is spew your subjective opinions and criticize other people. I have NEVER ONCE seen you post anything intelligent, or even anything that actually discusses the ISSUES.

A few months ago, Lori, you were a pro-Obama blogger who was attacking Hillary Clinton with the worst kind of invective. But now, your gloves are off, and we see that you were a McCain supporter all along. I, on the other hand, have been supporting Obama in these blogs all along. I have never changed sides. So who is the plant, Lori? Anyone can look back two or three onths and find your pro-Obama anti-Clinton blogs. YOU are the flip-flopper here.

I don't care if you don't believe that I am a physician. It doesnt matter to me at all. I have nothing to prove. I have blogs to write that inform the American public about what is really going on with the war, the economy, the energy crisis and the candidates' voting records. All you do is b!tch at people, and try to make me waste my time defending myself against your smears. Remind you of anyone? You do a really good Karl Rove imitation. Too bad you're not as smart as he is.

          • Posted By: loriw @ 07/03/2008 6:50:54 PM

If you are a physician it would be nice if you would give us your opinion on what to do to improve the health care situation. Other than the abortion posts on this article I don't recall you ever posting anything on medicine or health care.
Sorry to disappoint you but I am still UNDECIDED. I'm getting impatient for some good debated and for them to name their VP's then I could make up my mind and then the glove will come off...

          Good Morning, Lori -

Another blogger, denmill @ 06/22/08 supplied this terminology and explanation for that psychological defense mechanism to which you referred.

I believe that it is accurate.

Psychological projection (or Freudian Projection ) is a defense mechanism in which a person attributes his or her one???s own unacceptable or unwanted thoughts or/and emotions to others.

Glad to be of assistance - Blog on!

Love Canada, been there many times as I hail from northern Michigan but am stuck in Indiana now.

You are fortunate in that you arrived after Concerned Canadian left . He was very obnoxious and everyone dogged on him. We Americans have found it very curious that so many Canadians have been regulars on these blogs about our election. Sorry to admit that I don't even know your country's leader's name, my bad. I will never, ever forget your country's kindness during our country's time of sorrow following 9/11...it really did help to know Canadians cared.

Where I come from, I back down and humbly respect the other person, even if I know they are off and move one without saying I told you so. That shows strength and humility. Perhaps you, Davole and Reporterperson may learn something by what I am saying.
Have peace in your life, be humble show humility. The end of the world is not happening regardless if McCain gets in office or Obama. They both want whats best for our country..

          Sharenews -

Wow, and look who suddenly pops out of the curtains!
It's great to have you back!

Actually, I have to admit that I was "trolling" for you, in order to get you to post again.
Somehow I thought that by mentioning your name to Lori, that might cause you to return. And it worked!
But oh, do you two actually know each other? I may be in trouble now! But it's great to have you back.

Sharenews, if I may be so bold or forward, may I call you Share? Or should that be Cher?

I was quite worried about you since you hadn't posted for the past several days.
Strange thoughts were going through my mind.
I suspected that the Obama camp had possibly kidnapped you, in retaliation for your having stated publicly that you were a Hillary supporter.
And how's that RINO hide of yours holding up?

Over a week ago when you welcomed me to this site, I assured you that I wouldn't resort , no matter how provoked, to calling any other blogger an idiot, moron, imbecile, etc. See, I kept my word.
And the prevalent level of civil discourse here has definitely improved.

What's happened to Zig Zag - has he been kidnapped instead? He hasn't posted recently.
Please let him know that I'm ready to have the discussion which he mentioned with him whenever he's ready.

You mentioned that you haven't seen CC lately. Actually Canadian Club isn't my preferred beverage of choice - I've become quite fond of Woodford Reserve over the past few years.

Oh, sorry, did you mean Concerned Canadian? I may be wrong, but I thought that I saw a fairly mild post from that person 1 or 2 days ago. l have my doubts concerning whether that blogger is in fact Canadian, and it appears that several bloggers don't know that phantom's gender - I'll reserve my decision until after I scrutinize more of that character's possible future posts. But I should have known that gender would somehow become an issue on a democrat website.

And as to whether CC was a plant - probably - either democrat camp would do anything to win, if it makes a difference.

Hope to "hear" from you again!

Look forward to, and enjoy your Independence Day holiday!

            Hi , Thanks Daviole!

Hows life treating ya? Well Im flattered that you have been trolling for me so to speak. LOL. You can call me Share, that is fine. I have to admit I have been frustrated with Newsweek site lately especially when using the REPLY button as the system (editor) they provide have not been taking replies I make (I keep refreshing and still no post and then ½ hr later I see the 4 times I tried cuz it didn???t give a sign that each took all of a sudden I have 4versions of my posts.). Not sure whats going on, but I do know they are starting to update some parts of the site (e.g. making urls we post hyperlinks which is cool, and removing the Reply button - which I hate anyways - maybe they are fixing it).

You are funny. No, Obama camp hasn???t captured me yet. Still undecided. Lately I have been researching McCain and have posting in support of him e.g. as a devils advocate in many cases. Although I supported Hillary, I am not one of the supporters who will automatically go over to Obama as I have a good many concerns about him, even though his policies are similar to Hillary. My Rhino hide is thick, lol, but havent really had to use it much, nor the brown helmet. But the GE is still 4 mos. Away. Im sure it will get much more heated as we go into the summer. Yes, you have been great in your blogging. Very informative and do not resort to name calling (there are a good many that do but the bloggers that don???t usually are the most interesting posts especially those on the opposite camp.) I don???t know where ZigZag went. Ive conversed with him/her quite a bit over the months. The CC im referring to is Canadian (???) forget now. But I am not referring to Canadian Ctzn. Im not familiar with Woodford Reserve. I???ll have to keep my eyes open. S/he is a new blogger on the site. Just so that you are aware, not that it matters cuz you just joined us bloggers on the site, there have been a CHANGE OF GUARD so to speak of bloggers (e.g. some have left like Alvy, Markg???and new ones have come online, hey, are YOU a plant? LOL. You are new. Well glad I got to catch your post. I do go back a lot with Loriw, Sjpersonal, Pia, Nins, Zombie, and some of the other regulars a lot. But I???ll keep an eye out for you more. Hint: If you post something for me and I don???t respond , feel free to do a ONE LINER at the top of the blog screen to just say Sharenews, I have a post for you down below (sometimes I do that and include the post date in the message). Just a suggestion. Well you have a great day tomorrow, as well as a fun and safe Fourth of July if I don???t talk to you before then. -

              Good Morning, Share.

              How???s my favourite RINO today?

You asked how is life treating me - excellent, in fact if it were any better, I???d have to clone myself to share my abundance of optimism and appreciation.

I???m glad that you are flattered, and thanks for allowing me to call you Share.
But maybe I need to ???lay down the law with you, now.???
I haven???t given you permission to change my screen name - its Davole, (not Daviole).
I guess that???s still the democrat side of you - trying to restrict other???s freedoms.
Besides, it???s usually the female who changes her name when she gets married, not the male.
And I can???t remember getting married to you, so that should end that. Understood? Just kidding!

Yes, I notice some problems in the function of the Newsweek site, but I am getting used to them. I usually cut and paste my comment into the screen window, and then hit REPLY. It usually takes about 15 - 20 seconds for the window to change colour, and about another 10 seconds for the confirming notice to appear. Occasionally, if it doesn???t ???take??? within 30 seconds, I just try again, and it usually ???works???.

I won???t take offence with you calling me ???funny??? - I???ve definitely been called worse.

If that dratted Obama camp ever does capture you, just let them know that they will have to answer to me. You can even tell them that it might cost their candidate the election.

But nohow can I ever imagine you playing anything other than the angel???s (not the devil???s) advocate.

Thanks for the vote of confidence regarding my blogging.
I know that the CC to which you refer is Concerned Canadian.

Share, I guess that you???re not always quite ???with it??? late in the morning. Maybe I???ve ???pulled one over on you??? by making that reference to Woodford Reserve. No, she???s not a new blogger. I guess that your sleepy eyes didn???t notice that mention concerning my BEVERAGE of choice being Woodford Reserve - that???s a bourbon, in fact, the official bourbon of the Kentucky Derby.
But your statement that you???ll have to keep your eyes open was sure apropos then.

Come on, now - you have the audacity, granted late at night, to ask whether I am a plant.
No way, Jose! I???m definitely a carnivore - and the only plant that I know that is a carnivore is the Venus Flytrap - definitely not me!

I???m also glad that you noticed my post, especially with those sleepy eyes of yours. And I do share your appreciation for Lori.

Nins isn???t really one of my favourites, although I did, well you can say, welcome him back yesterday and early this morning with 3 posts. I wonder whether he will bother responding. We shall soon see.

And I have seen some posts from Sipersonal, Pia, & Zombie. Maybe I???ll have something to discuss with them later.

Thanks for the hint regarding how to flag your attention. But I don???t do flags.
If you don???t reply to one of my blogs, I???ll ask Lori to wake you up.

Don???t sleep through Independence Day - Celebrate it!

The reason people disliked Concerned Canadian is that, to put in bluntly, he was an a-hole: remarkably self-absorbed and consistently nasty to other bloggers. We did not dislike him because he was Canadian.

I think it is fine if people from other countries want to blog about the US elections. But if they are jerks, chances are good that the other bloggers will tell them so. If they have interesting things to say, I welcome them here, no matter what candidate they happen to favor. Outside voices are good.

          Hello Nins -

          Welcome back!

I realize that I am a relatively new blogger on this website, and it is not my intention to ???take it over??? i.e. - take control of it.

I don???t know how informed you have been regarding the various posts which have been placed during your absence, but I will present to you a synopsis regarding what has transpired recently.

I have addressed or even confronted several bloggers who had resorted to name-calling (such as idiot, imbecile, moron, clown, jerk, etc.) in replying to another blogger???s comments. I realize that it often is an initial or standard human response to sometimes utilize those terms in an attempt to refute someone else???s comment, especially if it is absurd.

But I stated my belief (and may I repeat that it is only my belief, and not necessarily fact, but I believe it to be so) that such retort, which I believe to be immature, only demeans the person who uses that method of personal attack, and also diminishes the perceived validity of his or her comment.

To my appreciated surprise, a few bloggers have admitted to having done so, and have added that their actions have often achieved nothing, and were even considered regrettable.

I was encouraged by their response whereby the frequency of name-calling diminished significantly, thereby demonstrating a greater degree of respect for their adversary, if I may use that term.

And now you, in an attempt to explain that ???The reason people disliked Concerned Canadian is that, to put in bluntly, he was an a-hole???. I, and several other bloggers here, consider that remark to be offensive. I ask your cooperation - will you agree to refrain from repeating that immature behaviour?

Further you add - ???We did not dislike him because he was Canadian???. Nins, I viewed some of the comments resulting from Concerned Canadian???s posts, and I definitely disagree with your statement.
But to the credit of probably all bloggers here, those comments were not repeated.

I do appreciate your statement that if outside bloggers have interesting things to say, you welcome them here, no matter what candidate they happen to favor.

          Thank you!

            And Hello again, Nins -

I have purposely posted this as a reply to my previous post to you, so that the chronological order of the 2 posts be maintained.

I admit to being forward - sometimes it is ???my style???.

On Jun. 28, 2008, I posted a response to your enchanting post to Sharenews (Jun. 26, 2008) in which you attempted to explain the late term and live birth abortion procedures.

I received no answer from you in rebuttal of my reply. Are you ???man enough??? to do it now?
I know that you can search for it now that you are back. But if you are unable to do that, would you prefer that I repost it?

Also, I believe that loriw also was expecting a reply to one of her replies to you. Do you prefer that she also resend her post?

During the past week, I have taken the time and effort to inform the other bloggers on this site as to who I am. Again, I invite you to research my posts for the past week to view that information. To summarize it for you - I am a Canadian male who resides in Canada close to the US border. My political affiliation is Conservative, and I do support the US Republican Party.

During your absence, a few bloggers discussed your previous posts, and wondered who you really are.
I???ll list a few of their questions.
            - Is Nins male or female?
            - What is his/her profession?
I saw, in your post to Sharenews, that you were claiming to be a medical doctor.
But you have also posted other information claiming to be an expert on the oil industry.
And other times you choose to portray yourself as a competent military analyst.
Will the real Nins please step forth, and identify yourself?
            - And lastly - are you a paid or voluntary ???plant??? for the Obama campaign?

Any comments - would you care to dispel the myths?

      • Posted By: Davole @ 07/01/2008 11:29:21 PM

        Lori -

I don't consider myself to be either fortunate or unfortunate that I arrived after Concerned Canadian left.
Actually, I did "catch" a few of his posts. I don't condone his conduct or lack thereof.
I have my doubts about whether he was, in fact, a Canadian - but I have been wrong in my suspicions a few other times about other individuals. I don't have a 100% accuracy record, but as a student of human nature and personality, I'm usually quite close.

And the "dogging on him" was that to which I had referred in one of my introductory posts when I mentioned that I, as a Canadian, had already been "hazed" on this site. I realize that the slurs which I had viewed were not directly at me in particular, but I was somewhat surprised by the alacrity and viciousness of comments which seemed to be levelled at Canadians in general.

I'm honestly not aware as to the number of Canadians, and purported Canadians, who have been regulars on these blogs about your election. Maybe because many of us share a common border, we tend to be interested in, and show concern for each other. And it is the Christian thing to do. Also, I had explained in one of my earlier comments, possibly around Jun. 22, 2008 when I first began to post here, my own reason for deciding to do so. Compounding that stated reason would probably be my own personal perception of the way in which our country had either advanced or degenerated "progressively" in a direction which I myself might not consider to be beneficial to Canadian society.

Our Canadian Prime Minister's name - it's Stephen (pronounced Steven, I don't know why) Harper, and he's the leader of our Conservative Party.

Since I do support the ruling party, that has definitely influenced my decision to support your Republican Party. I notice that even your political pundits have adopted our party distinctions - liberal vs conservative.

With regard to your statement that Americans will never forget my country's kindness during your country's time of sorrow following 9/11 - yes, we as Canadians cared, but more importantly, it was also the right thing to do. In retrospect, politically, I do wish that Americans would begin to place more thought and emphasis on the concept of "The Right Thing to Do" in their politics. In many ways, that's why I am here.

I hope that has answered your questions satisfactorily.

Lori, I'm always glad to "hear" from you.

Look forward in anticipation, and definitely do celebrate your country's Independence Day!

      Lori -

You ask - "So you are from Canada eh?"

Lori, you can't "pull the wool over my eyes"!
I suspect that I am really conversing with a fellow (or is it fellowe since you're a gal?) Canadian, eh?
Somehow you know and are using our highly developed top secret identity code.

So, you hail from the UP of Michigan - I have passed through that fine region on a few occasions - lovely terrain! As to being "stuck in Indiana now" - I imagine that is also an interesting region with many favourable attributes.

I grew up in a city in the Golden Horseshoe (Toronto is part of our suburbs), and attended university in London and Thunder Bay (formerly Port Arthur).

I have travelled from Buffalo to Albany to Phillidelphia around Lake Erie, to Chicago, through Michigan to Duluth, and also along the west coast from Santa Rosa to Fresno to San Francisco and down to Monterey - I thoroughly enjoyed the land and the friendly people.

I admire and respect the American spirit, capitalism, competitiveness, and generosity.
I disagree with, and maybe even detest the actions of a segment of the American population that seems to be hell-bent on perpetually criticizing and mocking their own government and military, and apologizing for their perception that the US is an evil empire in any and all actions that it undertakes at home and abroad.

I hope that provides a snapshot of who I am, and why I am active on this website.

Indiana has corn and the Indy 500 race. I'm allergic to corn and not a fan of autoracing unless they will let me drive.
I've been to the Soo many times, also Windsor, and Montreal. Montreal is my favorite due to the beauty of the area. Had the most fun in the Soo- took my then future son-in-law there for his 18th birthday and we had a blast!

what are Canadian's paying for gas these days?
Was $4.30 in Michigan when I was there this weekend.
Was glad to be back in Indy where it "is only" $4.04.

Currently gas is priced at approximately $1.32 per litre in this "neck of the woods".

Davole, Health care reform has been a big issue in several campaigns and Canada's system has been held up as one we in the US should adopt. I am in health care and would like to hear your opinion on your Canadian health care system. Would you be so kind as to share your thoughts with us. One person I discussed your system with told me that when a medical service is not available in Canada that your government send them to the US for services/care.

    • Posted By: Davole @ 07/02/2008 11:49:27 AM

      Lori -

I had to cut my comment into 4 parts to comply with the site requirement that any comment be restricted to 3000 characters or less.
Here is the fourth part of my comment to you.

Generally, whenever government gets involved in almost any program, costs escalate beyond reason, and are often accompanied by unforseen consequences.

Case in point - government mandated ethanol production and usage.
The diversion of a sizeable portion of corn from a foodstock to a form of energy has not really solved its intended purpose - the reduction of gasoline required for transportation.
Instead it has resulted in both higher transportation and food costs, and shortages.

Now, is it sane to give the federal government absolute control of a national healthcare system?
How much more will government increase in size, and at what ultimate cost to the taxpayers?

These concerns and considerations need to be addressed intelligently by the American society.

      • Posted By: loriw @ 07/02/2008 2:48:40 PM

thank you Davole, You definitely raised questions which I have felt need to be addressed by those that are proposing "affordable health care for all" . I have posed a few of these questions and got shot out of the water for suggesting that health care not provide certain services for free if the person chose a life style that included smoking, alcohol, obesity or drug abuse After they had received services to resolve those addictions.
I haven't seen aenough or any info on how we would be able to pay for universal free health care and you did say it is quite expensive and that your taxes are quite high. BTW I am a nurse and I avoid being a hospital patient at all costs. I have a t atheory that the more ornwery that you are the longer you live so I should be able to live well into my 10th decade of life!

          Lori -

          Thanks for your reply.

My advice - When asking questions or making suggestions - stand your ground! Don't be intimidated.

Those unstated extra lifestyle services sure compound the cost to a ridiculous level.

Mathematics doesn't seem to be Barack Obama's "strong suite".

I would love to see a competent investigative reporter ask him to divulge the total cost that would be required to fund universal health care.

And then to ask him how much it would cost to provide that service for the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants living in the US.

And then ask him whether the cost for the provision for illegals is included in or additional to the first figure which he had provided.

My solution for this problem - since democrats fixate on redistributing wealth and targetting windfall profits - set the president's salary as a benchmark (I think that it may be ($2000,000.00), then take 80% of that ($160,000.00) and make that the yearly earnings threshold - then confiscate all earnings of only democrat supporters which exceed that amount - Hillary and Bill Clinton, Al Gore, John Edwards, Jimmy Carter, Howard Dean, Nancy Pelosi, George Soros, Michael Moore, all athletes, actors & actresses, and musicians. See whether that would finance universal health care, since the democrats constantly assert that windfall profits should be taxed, and that the rich should pay for the poor.

            Correction & Apology -

I erred when I stated my estimation of the president's salary - I meant to say $200,000.00, not $2000,000.00.

          • Posted By: loriw @ 07/03/2008 2:33:27 AM

That is the most troubling, nagging concern I have about Obama's plans few seem to come with a price tag and a plan to generate the funds necessary tho I can speculate as to what that plan would be and I don't think it will be private sector VOLUNTARY donations. Early on I spent some time reading his plans on his web site I think it was a drop down list of about 20+ issues. I am big on volunteering so I read up on that oneObama suggests that he will give college students a $4000.00 tax deduction if they volunteer for only 100 hours a year. now that equates to $40.00 per hour of voluntering. That's a helluva tax deduction for a segment of the population that probaly earns little, is taxed little and probably can't even itemize. But that seems to be a big deduction against an already small tax liability. do they get a refund if there tax deduction exceeds their liability? If so I want to go back and take a few classes, I already volunteer way more than 100 hours and I could use a $000.00 tax deduction!

            • Posted By: loriw @ 07/03/2008 2:40:29 AM

damned boxes...I meant to say i could use a $4000.00 tax deduction.
I currently get a $000.00 tax deduction now that I no longer have dependents.

        • Posted By: loriw @ 07/02/2008 3:01:34 PM

sorry for the typo's-can't see below this box. I have had experience with the Army's health care system the last couple of years and I think that it would be a logical conclusion that government provided health care would be similar in many ways to the Tricare system. Tricare has it's good and bad points. What I have seen is that the care is different then civilian care, there is no "pampering" in the military health care system and there is a lot of waiting for care at times. I think many Americans would be very grateful to get any helthcare others would be very dissatisfied I think. Reality is you can't get first class care for everyone for free. I predict that a lot of Nurse Practicianers would substitute for MD's for routine care. My experience with NP's is that they are usually either very good or very bad. One example of a bad NP would be the one that missed the colon/liver cancer in my MIL, told her she just had the flu, my MIL died 3 weeks later of liver failure. The city I work (I have 2 jobs) for I think does it right. The City is self insured. Employees pay a premium and the city pays part of the premium, if in December the claims paid are less than premiums collected then the employees don't pay premiums for December. For several years they have received this "bonus". There are also incentives for not smoking and fitness is emphasized (reduced cost membership to recreationtion/fitness center at park). I think people are more motivated when there is financial incentive to stay healthy and not over sue the benefits of the health plan.

correction "and do not over USE the benefits of the health plan.
Davole, do you see people that abuse the Canadian Health Care system because it is free, will people go to the doctor or clinic for every little sniffle? A lot of Canada is very rural, how is health care provided to those people? Thank you for the time you have taken to answer all my questions!

                Lori -

Yes, there is a lot of unnecessary overuse, especially in the emergency rooms of hospitals - colds, the flu, headaches, minor cuts and scratches, and somewhat regularly injuries to people who have been taken into police custody - assaults, drunks who have fallen, or walked into glass doors or brick walls, etc.

And since the health coverage is free, the population feels that it is a right for them.

There have been some suggestions to present them with a cost statement to let them know how much it costs the taxpayer.

      Lori -

You raise an interesting and important question - one which I???m not qualified to answer.
But I???ll give it a try. And this will definitely be a looooong post. In fact - 4 posts.

You mention that you???re in health care. I hope that your condition is not serious or catastrophic.
I???ll pray for you - let me know when you are discharged from your health care facility.

Oh, sorry - I may have misunderstood your statement that you are in health care. Do you mean that you are EMPLOYED in the health care system in the US? Whew, you had me worried there!

I have heard several comments that are critical of the universal health care programs in both Canada and Britain. The main areas of contention are cost, wait times, and quality of service.

Since our service is universal, it is funded by our relatively high income tax levels compared to those of the US. And since few individuals actually know the total yearly cost of the service, I am not able to comment in that regard. But there are frequent statements by government and various organizations that the cost is frequentlyway over budget, and possibly leading to bankruptcy of the system, in both Canada and Britain.

From my own personal experience, the wait times are determined by application of a triage system, whereby more serious medical treatment gets priority over less severe treatment.

Two years ago, I required what was considered to be urgent 2-way bypass heart surgery, and somehow I sailed through the system. Several other co-patients at the specialized hospital told be that for whatever unknown reason, I was being given high priority. I don???t know why that would be - I definitely am not anyone of great fame or wealth. Maybe I was just a lab specimen that somehow fit a certain criteria -
      I don???t know.

      Lori -

I had to cut my comment into 4 parts to comply with the site requirement that any comment be restricted to 3000 characters or less.
Here is the second part of my comment to you.

The quality of the service which I received was spectacular, but I have heard and read other comments stating that other individuals throughout Canada either had long waiting times for critical operations, or criticized the actual quality of the service itself. Maybe the fact that I reside in the city which offered that specific critical care might have been a mitigating factor.

And I was pleasantly surprised to actually witness the amount of discretional authority which the system affords to the nursing staff. It might have been an isolated instance, but late one night while I was convalescing in hospital, I noticed that another patient was experiencing severe pain possibly due to bed sores. I informed a nurse who wasn???t even a regular staff member of that ward (she might have been a freelance or part-time nurse on duty that night), and she replied that it might be just a standard degree of discomfort, but she assured me that she would inspect the patient. Less than 15 minutes later, she thanked me for my involvement, and assured me that she had requisitioned a brand new waterbed mattress for the other patient. She attended to the patients sores, and within a few hours, a new mattress arrived. I couldn???t believe the absolute authority which that part-time nurse exercised. I guess that somehow I managed to assume a voluntary patient advocacy status - I reiterated several other patients??? concerns in our ward, and they also received prompt assistance regarding changes in their medication or other matters. Now I don???t know whether I had witnessed standard procedure, or unique one-shot exemplary patient care.

And yes, as you mention, I have also heard and read of instances where other individuals have been transferred to the US for prompt urgent care if it was unavailable in a somewhat reasonable time frame in Canada.

      Lori -

I had to cut my comment into 4 parts to comply with the site requirement that any comment be restricted to 3000 characters or less.
Here is the third part of my comment to you.

But Lori, the cost required to provide a competent universal health care system is enormous.
I believe that it ???boils down to getting the best bang for the buck???!

And I do believe that the Republican Party???s approach does have some merit.

I am not totally familiar with that proposal - I believe that it would enable each American to purchase individually specific health coverage, either through tax credits or other means. That individually specific coverage would be similar to a combination of fixed and selected options similar to household and vehicle insurance policies.

The main advantage of such a program would be more competition among both insurance companies, and health care providers, thereby probably lowering the operational coverage costs.

And there might also be a cost saving to the individual due to their own specific health coverage requirements, as opposed to an empirical everything covered program.
A non-smoker???s health plan would not need to provide coverage for lung and cancer related medical attention which a smoker would probably require. The same would be the situation for non-alcoholics, non-drug users, etc.

And lastly, the universally available but not per se universal health care plan would be totally out of the hands of the government, thereby reducing costs even further.
Why should a religious person who opposed abortion have to pay for a universal government plan which would foster and fund abortions?
Why should a non drug user have to pay for government mandated provision of free needles and drugs to drug users?
Why should an individual or couple who do not have any children have to pay for the birth and child related services required by parents who have several children?
Why should all taxpayers have to pay for all the health services which the government of the day would choose to afford to non insured illegal immigrants?

To the other viewers on this site - I meant to post this reply to alvinernest in the reply section of his post, but due to the fact that I had to divide it into 2 because the total reply exceeded 300 characters, I mistakenly posted the second part in the new posts section. That is why I am also posting this first part in this same section - to maintain continuity. I apologize!

    alvinernest -

It is obvious that you have a propensity to repeat yourself - case in point - posting your same comment 4 times as a supposedly new topic, and then once in the proper location - as a reply. Congratulations on that latter achievement.

Would you be willing to explain why you keep repeating yourself? Some psychologists may interpret your repetitive statements as indicative of a narcissistic personality. How would you explain it? And I do notice that you like to call someone with whom you do not agree a ???bigot??? - how juvenile!

Please point out exactly where I have ever said that you are ???meek???, and ???that (your) philosophy is that (you) know nothing???. I have reread all of my previous comments to you, and I have been unable to find any such statement.

And was it really necessary for you to announce to the world that you actually received a masters from ???one on (I think you mean - of) the top european (European?) universities?
Most people generally would prefer to utilize that education, instead of flaunting it.

You have stated that you ???characterise (characterize?) ???conservatism??? as a religion - emtional (emotional?) with little objectivity ... unable to see that on change can delivers progress...??? -whatever you mean by that - I can???t quite follow your train of thought there.
But hey, since you have that masters degree from a leading European university, your not so humble opinion MUST BE TRUE! No, I don???t quite ???buy??? that!

I see that you're still having problems expressing yourself in the English language!
For some people, that task can be mind-boggling.

But at least you've managed to dispense with that ridiculous practice of yours to place an unnecessary number of exclamation marks after your comment - Congratulations!

Oh, by the way - I was speaking with Simon and Theodore today - they intimated to me that they were very ashamed of your childish conduct.

My advice to you - just go back to the sandbox and play in it by yourself.
And try to replace that pouting expression with a happy face!

      We're hoping for you.

      Awaiting your next post.

If Senator Obama keeps dribbling like this pretty soon Senator McCain will be left in the dust.

    • Posted By: Davole @ 06/27/2008 7:42:33 AM

Micky Marsh - If senator Obama is dribbling, then he should consider wiping his mouth with a napkin.

Or if one is unavailable, then he might decide to wipe it with his sleeve.

      • Posted By: loriw @ 07/01/2008 9:17:00 PM

wiping with one's sleeve is not good manners...

You got me on this one, but I'll be back.

        • Posted By: Davole @ 06/27/2008 10:25:45 AM

Micky Marsh - Thanks for taking my comment "in stride" - my intention was just to interject a bit of humour into the double meaning of "dribbling" on this site. No offense was intended.

I have noticed that recently improvements have been made in reducing the number of times that people posting on this site try to dismiss others who post comments to which they don't agree by calling the poster idiot, dumb, moron, etc. I believe those comments do not foster intelligent conversation.

But sometimes immature negative comments are posted - they just display the current shallowness of the poster. I use the word "current" purposely - with the hope that those individuals will reform their viewpoint, character, and personality.

But "feel free" to give me "your best shot" whenever you are ready to do so!

          Keep up the good work!

patronise should be patronize and characterise should be characterize.
What did you get your Masters degree in ...golf?

      • Posted By: Davole @ 07/01/2008 9:05:46 PM

        Lori -

No, I don't think that he received a masters degree in golf - that would probably be beyond his area of possibility, let alone capability.

Now how about navel-gazing - I do think that he MIGHT be qualified for that.
And I believe that's considered an art in some very remote parts of Europe.

Or, maybe he'll choose to do a grand pronouncement to dispel the curiosity.

POLL POSITION..................Barack Obama has taken the formula 2008 lead, he'll be very hard to catch.

Lick your wounds, and let me know when you will be ready to play again?

Next time it will be played in my court, and I???ll even spot you a high-5!

      • Posted By: Micky Marsh @ 06/30/2008 11:22:02 AM

Ok Davole, next time you're having a beer remember this one, I just created it.
        Its entitled "ARAB'S RUNAWAY CODE"

        Do you remember how long it took the United States to find Sadam Hussein, well blame it on the US search dogs. The US gave a few search dogs to the Iraqis soldiers to help them find Sadam Hussein, the problem is in Iraq dogs are not a man's best friend. The Iraqis soldiers got smart and gave the dogs an ARAB'S RUNAWAY CODE; when the dogs heard this code they were supposed to run away. The Iraqis secretly passed the ARAB'S RUNAWAY CODE to Sadam Hussein while he was in hiding. Now once the dogs got to Sadam Hussein he immediately said the ARAB'S RUNAWAY CODE in a deep voice;
BUSH - I - AM, the dogs panic and ran away.
