Eleanor, your facts and points are true in many ways, but the context in which you present them is rank with emotion based argument and your assertion of "McCain Desperation" is a damaging statement in which you provide no proof of. To rattle off a few events he had this week neither proves your point, nor provides the reader any insight into what the McCain camp mood truly is. The stakes are too high this election cycle for slander and speculation.

This comment is meant for the author of the R. Kelly article titled. WHY DO BLACK WOMEN SUPPORRT R. KELLY. The article was just removed from the website. Shame on Newsweek ,for allowing an intern of ignorance to post inflammatory headlines under their banner.
Newsweek??????for a prestigious magazine you should know better??????the title of your article reeks of stereotypes which suggest to me the author is ignorant. You need to revise the title and apologize or as a black woman I???ll sue you for libel, defamation, pain and suffering and anything else I can research. Can you prove I supported R. Kelly? How dare you stoop so low in this time and age when you should be better informed? SHAME ON YOU. Stick to writing stuff you know something about, you just insulted a whole race of women. Why do white people support David Duke and the KKK? Does that sound nice or accurate? And just for the record I don???t support him. He should have placed in a cell with Leroy, big Mo and the author of this article.

"the only reason McCain is competitive is his straight talk..." quote from top of page 2.
Wow that is harsh Ms. Clift. Why don't you change your name to Ms. Democrat. Are you just a little bit biased?

    • Posted By: jimbo3800 @ 06/20/2008 8:36:35 PM

"A little bit biased"!! LOL, that is the understatement of the century - Eleanor Clift is a walking, talking, water-carrying apologists for the Democrat Party and has been for years. Her articles read like moveon.org press releases.

Yeah, I've noticed she's very biased as well. But she's columnist, not really a reporter, so she can spout her opinions.

The democrats aren't exactly looking pretty either. The 2006 election promises to get us out of IRaq have failed. Dean and the DNC have denied democracy in MI and FL. Clinton was thrown under the bus. I don't exactly have much faith in democrats to lead this country after watching them screw up again and again.

Michael Masters of Master Capital Management, LLC (a global investment management company) testified before the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs just a couple of weeks ago. Here are quotes from his testimony:

"Today, Index Speculators are pouring billions of dollars into the commodities futures markets, speculating that commodity prices will increase. In the popular press the explanation given for rising oil prices is the increased demand from China. According to the DOE, China's demand for petroleum has increasde in the last five years from 1.88 billion barrels to 2.8 billion barrels, an increase of 920 billion barrels. Over the same five year period, Index Speculators' demand for petroleum futures has increased by 848 million barrels. THE INCREASE IN DEMAND FROM INDEX SPECULATORS IS ALMOST EQUAL TO THE INCREASE IN DEMAND FROM CHINA. Index Speculators have now stockpiled, via the futures market, the equivalent of 1.1 billion barrels of petroleum, effectively adding EIGHT TIMES as much oil to their own stockpile as the US Government has added to the Strategic Petroleum Reserve over the last five years."

"The Senate has asked the question "Are Institutional Investors contributing to food and energy price inflation?" And my unequivocal answer is "YES." In this testimony I will explain that investment banks are one of, if not the primary, factors affecting commodities prices today. Clearly, there are many factors that contribute to price determination in the commodities markets; I am here to expose a fast-growing yet virtually unnoticed factor, and one that presents a problem that can be expediently corrected through legislative policy action..."

The US Commodity Futures Trading Commission is ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL. They are supposed to be protecting us form these kinds of abuses, but Bush has allowed loopholes in the CFTC regulations that you can drive a truck through. An oil truck, that is.

Clift ignores the fact that it is STILL ''business as usual''in Washington after nearly two years of Democrat control of Congress. K St. is heavily freighted with Democrat lobbyists awaiting the anointment of Obama. As a minority, the GOP will be in a keen position to redefine itself as a public watchdog of the expected, indeed, already extant,Democrat corruption and pay-to-play. Indeed,a junior Texas GOP congressmans calls of an investigation illuminating the linkage between sub-prime lender COUNTRYWIDE and key Democrats was ignored by the House leadership. Perhaps more importantly, under an Obama presidency and a Democrat-controlled Congress, can we expect Clift,Wollfie,Fineman,Thomas and all the rest at NEWSWEAK to do their g.ddamned jobs as investigative reporters untainted by partisan loyalty? I wouldnt bet a plugged nickel on the outcome, let alone the ranch...
