MY TURN

The Art of Chinese Cooking

I can make a mean seafood paella, but I never learned to cook the food my grandmother made.

Comment: I don't even cook, but I thought this was great culinary writing and an ethnic eye-opener. Thank you.

Comment: This article really hit home with me. I was nodding with every sentence. I grew up eating really authentic chinese food since my paternal grandparents lived with us but I never learned to make any of it. When I needed to cook for myself, I made italian, mexican, american food. Only recently have I tried making really authentic chinese food, like watercrest soup, fried rice and yes, even a soy sauce chicken!
