coffeecandy--I agree with you 100%--and people with REAL common sense understand the smoke that folks like rjsonnier and others are trying to blow smoke up our @#$ about the "Maverick McCain" and his sidekick "sweet polly purebread". Of course she says shes "always" been proud of her country.. well she should because she using some of the best dope you can buy . wake up..pop one..go to sleep pop two! I'm suprised she made it through the Leno show without tipping over

I have read these post and you are quick to forgive Cindy for stealing lying , becoming an addict and who knows what else And the Moment you hear that Mrs Obama said something about America It was like the worst thing you have ever heard .. Not thinking you all took it out of context but remember, Mrs Obama didn't lie, she didn't steal from a nonprofit group, and she is not on drugs .. WOWERS isn't that something but read rjsonnier post Cindy is an queen angel Yeah right

So how many of the commentators here have EVER managed a company? Adopted a child? Raised several children? Ran a charity? Went to poor nations to help solve health problems? Stayed with their spouse for 30 years? You people are a bunch of bitter, losers who have nothing to do but complain and tear people down. Everyone has had their share of challenges- look in the mirror and ask yourself what have you done to make a better planet.

  • Posted By: CoffeeeCandy @ 06/23/2008 5:32:37 PM

rjsonnier292291 Wheww You can't see through the trees at all .. How do we know if Cindy will go back to drug abuse simply beause she can't handle the pressures of being a first lady. If this were anyone else and you know who I am referring to you would have blasted her out this article , but because it's Sweet little innocent Cindy it's ok to forgive and forget. Sorry it's not working with me .. Your an addict and you steal from non profit groups that's a low I don't care how you put it You know when folks hit bottom they run to a God or anything that will help redeem them.. Fact is Fact McCain people Deal with it ! and stop trying to sugar coat the McCains crap

Cindy, thanks for your twos sons' service to their country. You've raised two fine sons!!

  • Posted By: ozarkajuice @ 06/23/2008 9:40:22 AM

And we want this person to be the first lady? She cant even handle stress of politics, that it made her addicted to pain killers.

    • Posted By: civicus83 @ 06/23/2008 9:50:16 AM

You moron. The stress of politics didn't make her addicted to painkillers. The pain from surgeries following a ruptured disc made her addicted to painkillers. Know before you speak.

      • Posted By: ozarkajuice @ 06/23/2008 9:57:32 AM

Who is the moron if they didnt even read the Darn article. since i can tell you didnt read it, ill give you a quote from the article "her husband did not notice when she became addicted to painkillers, a habit, she says, brought on in part by the stress of politics"

        • Posted By: summer4077 @ 06/23/2008 12:29:22 PM

Drug addiction isn't brought on by one lone factor. She ruptured a disc, giving her access to the drugs. ANY stress can cause a person to become addicted to painkillers--they are highly addictive by nature. Had her husband been around more, and not absorbed in his politics, he would have noticed. I don't fault Cindy. It takes incredible strength to beat an addiction and stop cold-turkey. That shows tremendous STRENGTH of character, not weakness as you suggest.
However, McCain will never get my vote. I don't like him. I'm voting for the person running for president, not their spouse.

Hey, are you one of those idiots who stands up and claps for TV celebrity who confides they quit smoking cigarettes, or haven't had a drink for week? Newsflash idiot. You're suppose to quit. Bigger flash! if you get started, with all the media and information about such habits, you're not that bright. Lots of people have had aggressive pain. Check that - most people have had aggressive physical pain. Most don't have a 100 million dollar soft landing, access to therapist, doctors and support groups. Most deal with it without the applause. She not a great woman for stopping what should not have gotten started.

And dummy. I just bet if Obama's wife had taken pain-killers, stole from herself and cheated with a married fake-hero man - you'd have a different perception.

            • Posted By: THE RAVEN @ 06/23/2008 5:27:56 PM

They are the same idiots who rationalized rush (fitting name) lardbutt's actions when he was busted for getting illegal "perscription" drugs, and then HAD to confess he was an addict. These whites believe that if you are rich, and abuse perscription drugs, steal, rape and murder, and then confess to it (after they're busted, mind you) then you've done something courageous.
              Pathetic.

You are so racist

  • Posted By: jdalshuler@yahoo.com @ 06/23/2008 5:08:55 PM

Hey, do you know the difference between a "cadet" and a "midshipman"? One goes to West Point and the other goes to Annapolis. If you can't get that fact right, how can I trust you with the rest?

  • Posted By: Prt10 @ 06/23/2008 4:49:10 PM

I have no issues with Ms. McCain - I think the back handed put down of Ms. Obama was beneath her. Considering how the GOP treated Cindy mcCain and her family four years ago I would think she would stay above the fray. They did gloss over the whole dating for almost year while McCain was still married - but if his first wife is not bitter why should we be? It is a fluff peice - because we are not voting for the souse of the President.

THE AUTHOR OF THIS ARTICLE IS A JOKE AND AN EMBARASSMENT TO WOMEN. PLEASE FILTER OUT YOUR INTERNALIZED SEXISM AND WALK INTO THE 21ST CENTURY WHERE WOMEN ARE ALSO DEPLOYED IN THE NAVY AND ARE AMBITIOUS, NOT JUST HOUSE WIVES WAITING ANXIOUSLY AT HOME RAISING THE CHILDREN. CINDY'S FATHER GAVE HER ALL THE ATTENTION HE WOULD GIVE A SON??? PLEASE GO BACK TO SCHOOL AND GET A DEGREE HIGHER THAN A HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA AND AN M.R.S. *THANKS A BUNCH*

Holly Bailey why didn't you ask her how she feels regarding her husband's stance on women's issues?
Does she share his wish to take away our reproductive rights?
Does she wish to overturn Roe v Wade? Does she also support his no equal pay for women stance? No healthcare for children, no breast cancer screening for poor women? etc???

    • Posted By: lpettersen @ 06/23/2008 4:26:14 PM

Good comment. This article was pathetic.

Why do they call Cindy McCain a 'navy wife' when - by the time McCain married her - he was pretty much out of the Navy or at least soon to be. It was the woman he was married to at the time he met her that was the navy wife, not only enduring long periods with her husband away (raising his kids) but the whole time he was a prisoner of war. Plus, she has a very bad accident during that time and recuperated alone. In fact, it was Cindy McCain's money that was his ticket out of the Navy to public office. In this light, it almost seems ironic that she they use the term 'navy wife' so prominently at the start of this piece.

    • Posted By: onepoker @ 06/23/2008 4:18:28 PM

They are referring to the time away from her husband as being like a navy wife. I had the same gut reaction as you when I read it.

    Who is Cindy McCain?

    Who cares?

Cindy McCain isn't running for president. Neither is Michelle Obama. Who cares what they say, where they went to school, what charities they espouse, or what style they use for their hair.

I'm not being asked to vote for the wives, relatives, pastors or the goldfish of McCain or Obama.

    Move forward.

    • Posted By: Pete Kent @ 06/23/2008 1:52:50 PM

You say that because barack obama has associates, including his wife that don't stand up well to scrutiny.

      • Posted By: bkweaver@verizon.net @ 06/23/2008 4:07:56 PM

What a weird response. This is no doubt from someone who thinks that the fabric of the American universe was torn asunder because Clinton gave in to a pretty stupid impulse of a personal nature, but forgives Bush every lie and refuses to believe anything negative about him.

Did you let the summer interns handle this one?! What a load of drivel. You make a women who knowingly dates a married guy and subsequently scams drugs from her own non-profit sound like Mother Teresa. You also gloss over the fact that she and her husband hung a long time employee out to dry during the drug episode. Also, she did not work in a "poor" school district in Phoenix. Many of the kids who attend the school come from an affluent resort town; and, she did not serve the special need population. These may seem like minor facts, but when combined with the rest of your story, add up to sloppy journalism. Where is the infamous "c&nt story." I suppose you would make this into a charming story of John calling her that as a term of endearment. I am normally a big fan of your publication, but this article was absolute drivel.

This was a Great article by Newsweek. You should not expect that EVERY ariticle Newsweek writes speaks of ONLY Obama and Michelle walking on water. GROW UP and realize there is GOOD even in people that are NOT the Obamas.

      • Posted By: lpettersen @ 06/23/2008 3:55:08 PM

I don't expect every article to be about the Obamas.I do expect journalists to do a thorough job researching their topic.

  • Posted By: Loden Green @ 06/23/2008 3:04:08 PM

It didn't take long for Newsweek to jump on the McCain fluff bandwagon. This is just one more article which seeks to portray John and Cindy McCain in the best possible light. This softball could have been written by McCain's PR staff.

I'd be really proud of my country too if I could steal narcotics from my charity and get away with community service!

  • Posted By: MicheleCA @ 06/23/2008 2:59:53 PM

Of course Cindy has always been really proud of her country! When she stole narcotics from her charity and was merely given community service, you better believe she was proud!

This is an interesting comment from the article.Years later, her husband did not notice when she became addicted to painkillers, a habit, she says, brought on in part by the stress of politics. In 2004, he was on the other side of the
