Her "husband did not notice when she became addicted to painkillers?" She "oversees a family charity?" Gosh, Newsweek this is really weak reporting. I doubt you would have been so kind if Michelle Obama was a drug addict who used her own charity to support her habit and then fired people who wanted to tell the truth instead of live in denial with Cindy McCain. The Phoenix News Times ("Opiate for the Mrs.") did a much better job. I'm so disappointed in this publication.
katienyc: I suppose you did not take a liking to the Newsweek article about Cindy McCain because it was not meanspirited and vitriolic enough for you leftist bloodhounds. Mrs. McCain has not lived a perfect life, but neither has Mrs. Obama. The Obamas' associates are far left loonies, criminals (Rezko), and ranting racists in their church. Michelle Obama is not the person I would want as First Lady. Many people, including some of my friends have been addicted to painkillers and it is not an easy road. To berate and belittle such individuals is beyond the pale.
Cindy McCain is an older Paris Hilton..
Seriously..if, as SHE claims..the stress of politics caused her to become a drug addict..WHY would we want her as the First Lady..I mean really, she obviously has already proven she can't hack it.
What the hell type of stress was this lady under??
In Phoenix? Her husband's away most of the time...
That's not very family oriented ;{
Really. One minute he's a family man, the next - he's not home.
Who raised the kids? The long-distance father or the mom on pain-killers?
And stress? Huh? How?
Hello Alvy. Please do me a favor and check BF, thanks.
Frankly, who cares about cindy? the issue is John McCain. But he did start wooing her and, by this account, ask her to marry him while he was STILL MARRIED. Confronted with another rumored dalliance, she calls him "a man of great character." Based on what marital history, exactly?

Hey Pia, thanks for the thumbs up on that other page. I travel alot and sometimes I don't get a chance to thank people in due time. My apologizes.
You are welcome. Anytime.
We cannot afford to blindly support the Democratic party because of Obama's charisma and the poetry that is trying hard to disguise political inexperience and lack of jugment.
This is not change, nor progress, that the Democratic party is trying to force-feed us as the "new politician."
I Strongly Agree ... It is just TOO Risky to support Obama. He is too inexperienced and naive about terrorism and the dangers to America. I really wish he would take the terroist's threats to America More Seriously.
Thank you so much for not providing the How's. Idiot.
He's not inexperienced. He's not naive.
Terrorism and its tactics change by the week I understand.
It's the man who can keep up that will have the advantage. Not the one forgetting who we're fighting.
Here's an idea. READ UP.
Force feed yourself some knowledge on the issues.
You don't have to open your mouth to read an article, a web page.
How's bBarack "disguising his inexperience"? Think about this with the rest of us.
He doesn't "play" like he has experience, he let's you know his record in the door. He's a different type of experience. We need scholars in our government, not shady secret businessmen.
Enough with the dumb greedy people running the country all ready!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and you can afford to support a candidate that sided with Bush 93% of the time who's dragging this country into the 3rd world? You must be really comfortable with a 6 figures salary and you must be selfish and not caring about the average american family that's finding it hard to make ends meet. Not to spoil your hope but this election won't even be close, it will be Obama by a landslide.
Goldenstars, if SOOOO many white girls are being raped by black guys, why are SOOO many whites and all other ethnicities still clinging to them?
What's the percentage of white folks who berate their parents, or smoke Meth, or shoot up schools, or go on serial killer sprees?
It's not about color stupid, it's about class and parenting skills. Ignorance never wins.
goldstar chile is a white man. Don't let him fool you. He's not even trying to respond to the articles. He just like saying stupid things.
Do the men in korea still like to dress up like little girls and women, and sell themselves for rat and dog meat?
So she group up super rich and has a charity that gives to the poor. Don't all super rich people have charities that give to the poor to reduce their tax bases? Since she's not running for President and will be pretty busy with her current duties chairman of the family business I don't see the point of articles about the wives of Presidents.
Don't ever compare yourself to a millitary wife...I would love to have my husband "deployed" to the safety of DC, instead of receiving imminent danger pay...I would love to be able to pick up the phone and call him...instead to wondering if the reason he hasn't called is death...He wasn't there for you...There is a huge difference...DO NOT COMPARE...Death, amputation, brain injury, blindness, PTSD, and paralysis to DC.
Uh, did you read this?? Especially the part about sleeping with her Blackberry day and night, and the anguish she felt when she missed ONE phone call from her son? Never knowing if he's alive or dead, never knowing when she'll get to hear his voice? I'm pretty sure she knows EXACTLY how you feel.
Oh and another thing. Before the Iraq War and even during, Navy wives have sent off husbands to non-Iraq deployments. Long deployments are the norm.
Try not to sound ignorant.
McCain says she felt like a Navy Wife because her husband was away for long periods of time to Washington while she was with the children. The article clearly says that but you choose to be offended by what you want to see. McCain is a proud Marine Mom as well as an Annapolis Mom.
Cindy McCain is America's next First Lady. Senator McCain and his wife can restore American prestige in a way that Obama and his wife cannot even comprehend! Obama has just learned the American flag protocol.
Cindy McCain, drug addict, husband stealer and stroke victim and her husband John, the geriatric traitor, stumble and dodder through the halls of the White House.
Way to make Dubya and Laura look like good, clean-living people.
Um, right, how dare she have a stroke....
Reaching a little bit, aren't we?
You are right, Stars, I painted with too wide and cynical a brush. My apologies to Cindy McCain. I do have compassion for her, but I can't see her enjoying being in the White House. See seems pretty emotionally fragile, needs her children and her solitude to feel safe and whole. There is nothing wrong with that, but you have to admit it is the opposite of the life led by a President's wife, and in the past the stresses of John's career have led her to some self-destructive coping skills, like taking drugs and failing to care for her own health (not taking her blood pressure medicine). I can't see how being First Lady will be good for her. When she cries in public, they are not crocodile tears, it is real emotional distress. Presumably, a lot of her husband's time and energy is spent helping her stabilize her mood. Her having at stroke at such a young age does not bode well for her future health (and honestly, it makes me wonder what other illicit drugs she might be taking, since slender young caucasian women rarely have high enough blood pressure to cause a stroke). Her unravelling physically or mentally would not bode well for McCain's ability to do his job.
There, now I spoke my peace on the subject without being b!tchy. Sorry for the flash of aggra earlier. I was out of line, and you guys were right to call me on it.
You don't need to be sorry, Nins. These people have been treating Mrs. Obama worse than a dog. No punches pulled. They have dogged out her looks, her children...they have gone too far. No other candidate's wife has ever been treated the way Mrs. Obama has been treated. Now watch these vultures make themselves feel justified in their attacks.
Well I have not ever heard anyone diss Obama's children . What specifically was said about them?
One poster ( won't tell you who, but you can guess) commented, "that's what one gets when you cross breed O and M. Two brats." Not in so many words though and the poster didn't use the word, 'brats', it was something much worse.
Have people resorted to dogging Obamas children too? That one I have not seen.
No, it's fine. I just thought it was a tad out of character for you. I enjoy reading your posts and understanding your point of view.
I think Cindy would follow the mold of Laura Bush, where she focuses on her work with children and charity and stays out of the political scene as much as possible. She definitely has been burned by the press before, and doesn't seem to love the limelight.
Michelle would likely follow the footsteps of Hillary (how strange is that?) where she's want to roll up her sleeves and get her hands dirty and makes changes right up there with Obama. Both women have very different personalities and interests.
I do agree with what you said that Cindy would be inclined to follow the path of Laura Bush where she will focus on work with children and charity moving forward, either way. But as you say both women do have very different personalities and interests.
Nins is not usually that hard to include a persons health crisis as one of her faults, so to speak. LOL. But she did admit she was wrong. I was going to say the same thing, but you caught it before me. Its okay nins, we have all gone off the edge at one point or the other during this crazy Presidential race. : )
Thanks, Share, I appreciate that.
You have a problem with stroke victims? Wow you're really harsh. Hope a stroke never happens to any of your loved ones!!!
Hi Lori,
Nins apologized for that, you have to know from her posts that Nins is not an insensitive person. That was just a slip, we all make them.
Funny. And true...
I guess you think it's a character flaw to be a stroke victim just like Nins does.
Okay, let me step in on that one. If you read Nins you know she doesn't even get off of the facts like that (usually). The stroke this is obviously a problem though, her health isn't OUR issue, but it should be one of Mccain's top issues, which then MAKES it our issue. I hope she's okay and all, but she seems like the livelier one of the couple, this might devistate the guy!
How about an article on McCain's first wife? (She lives in VA now)... Cindy knowing he was married to someone else was an accomplis to adultery... Wonder if Cindy likes wearing blue dresses and smoking cigars? Or maybe we'll see Cindy on the Jerry Springer show?
Readers, be informed, and beware! Sam Bodman, US Energy Secretary, is a Bush appointed Yes-man. Bodman states that insufficient production is making oil prices soar. Bush wants you to think that the OPEC countries are responsible for high oil prices, but the truth is, OPEC has been significantly increasing production over the past several months. Where is all that oil going? It's being stockpiled by US investment banks, who are creating a fake shortage to drive up the price. Congress has already started to investigate this criminal practice. Bush, who has deregulated the banking industry, tries to blame it on OPEC. By now you should be familiar with Bush's MO: he says you should be very afraid of Muslims. But who you should really be afraid of are investment bankers at Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley and Lehman Brothers. Check this out:
Michael Masters of Master Capital Management (a global investment manager) testified before the Senate Committee on Homeland Security & Government Affairs a couple of weeks ago. Quotes from his testimony:
"Today, Index Speculators are pouring billions of dollars into the commodities futures markets, speculating that commodity prices will increase. In the popular press the explanation given for rising oil prices is the increased demand from China. According to the DOE, China's demand for petroleum has increased in the last five years from 1.88 billion barrels to 2.8 billion barrels, an increase of 920 billion barrels. Over the same five year period, Index Speculators' demand for petroleum futures has increased by 848 million barrels. THE INCREASE IN DEMAND FROM INDEX SPECULATORS IS ALMOST EQUAL TO THE INCREASE IN DEMAND FROM CHINA. Index Speculators have now stockpiled, via the futures market, the equivalent of 1.1 billion barrels of petroleum, effectively adding EIGHT TIMES as much oil to their own stockpile as the US Government has added to the Strategic Petroleum Reserve over the last five years."
"The Senate has asked the question "Are Institutional Investors contributing to food and energy price inflation?" And my unequivocal answer is "YES." In this testimony I will explain that investment banks are one of, if not the primary, factors affecting commodities prices today. Clearly, there are many factors that contribute to price determination in the commodities markets; I am here to expose a fast-growing yet virtually unnoticed factor, and one that presents a problem that can be expediently corrected through legislative policy action..."
The US Commodity Futures Trading Commission is ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL. They're supposed to be protecting us from these kinds of abuses, but Bush allowed loopholes in the CFTC regulations that you can drive a truck through. An oil truck, that is.

Great post Nins, thanks for the info.
At least Obama has already proposed some measures against this kind of speculation: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/23/us/politics/23campaign.html
I don't fool myself, though. The oil companies and their lobbies will never let him get away with it.
WillNotVote, I just love it when you set yourself up to be schooled. You give a web address for the Obama's page on the Senate.gov website. Each Senator sets up their own pages there. You have directed the reader to Obama's page where he prints, for the world to see, his voting record on every bill that comes before the Senate. Here is that address:
http://obama.senate.gov/votes/index.cfm?start=1
You sent the reader to this page because it shows that Obama did not vote on many of the recent bills, and you want to make it look like Obama is asleep on the job. It must be mentioned, however, that Clinton, McCain and Obama have all missed many votes during the campaign season. However, if the reader will take the trouble to page through Obama's voting record, they will see that Obama has been present for all of the important votes. Obama has been present and voted on 62 of the 154 bills before Congress in the current session beginning January 2008. Clinton has voted on 56 of these 154 bills. And McCain, who had already won the primary and didn't have to start campaigning against Obama until three weeks ago, McCain voted on only 33 of 154 bills.
As I have exposed in one of my earlier blogs, McCain missed more than half of his votes, even before he started running for President. In the First Session of the 110th Congress (2007), McCain missed a whopping 56% of his votes. McCain doesn't want you to know this, so when you go to his Senate web page, there is no tab to click to see his voting record (http://mccain.senate.gov). An American who wants to know how McCain votes has to look it up on the Library of Congress website (not user friendly) or go to the Washington Post website:
http://projects.washingtonpost.com/congress/members/m000303/votes/
While you are there, pay special attention to McCain's votes on March 13 and 14, 2008. On those days we know he was present, because he voted on 22 bills. But he refused to vote on 22 other bills. He failed to vote on bills concerning border security, alien removal and English in the workplace, even though he has set himself up as the candidate who wants immigration reform favorable to Hispanics. He also failed to vote on the bills regarding efficient energy production, even though he claims to be in favor of this. He must not be very much in favor of efficient energy and immigration reform since her refused to vote even though he was present. As for Obama and Clinton, they were both present those days, and they both voted on all 44 bills.
McCain knows that public perception is all that matters, so he gives a news conference and says he supports certain issues, even though he refuses to vote in favor of them. He knows that most Americans never take the time to look up his voting record, and he makes sure that his Senate web page doesn't include this information.
I find it ironic that your blogger name is "WillNotVote." Did you get that name from John McCain?
You tell em Nins!
You can also try a site like votesmart.com, here's Obama's record:
http://www.votesmart.org/voting_category.php?can_id=9490
To my knowledge, it's not party-partial and has both conservatives and liberals working together to piece together accurate voting records, but I've only been looking at it the last couple days, so I don't know if it's complete. So far, it seems like a good site and easy to use.
Ooops, www.votesmart.org, sorry
Our family will be Proudly casting our votes for America this year and will be voting for John McCain. America needs to get back on track and McCain is our only hope for stability in this country.
STABILITY!!!! The man barely remembers his name!!! Or what his view was on an issue last week!! That is NOT stability..That is frightening
Last like G. Bush was your last and only hope last time?
This guy isn't even genuine. He says what he's told to say, like a pussycat, he studders when he's asked an unscripted question, oh and he agrees with most of the broken policies of today.
Mccain can't even stand up that long, let alone think on his feet, or have an opinion that isn't goofy and stale.
For people who said that McCain is the right choice and that Obama and his wife doesn't love America, I would like you to explain this to me. McCain is even on video saying that at one time he did not love America. He said it to Sean Hannity and then he said it at campaign rally in 99 and then again in 2008 and then most recently June 14, 2008. Please help me out here.
Just to be fair I believe that the complete quote is something like "I did not love america until I was deprived of her company"
I am not going to say anything negative about Cindy McCain - even though there appears to be a lot of material. I think the wives of the candidates and their children should be off limits. I did not like what has been done to Michelle Obama, but two wrongs don't make a right. So I'll leave this alone.
Please note - that does not mean I am not going to blast McCain from time-to-time for divorcing his handicap wife. The man is a dirt bag.
Great Zig, I asgree 100%
The candidates still need to get good VP's, and http://www.votenic.com holds a weekly Vice President poll, so see who America thinks should back the candidates.
Knowing how Newsweek will do anything to elect Obama, I'm surprised that this article actually presents a positive side of Cindy McCain. I had heard about her drug addiction and the other negatives, but had never heard any positives. She actually sounds like a pretty good person who has made some mistakes along the way (as I'm sure most of us have).
Beep Beep Dreffein!
MAYBE, just maybe, NEWSWEEK isn't going out of it's way to make Obama look smart, oganized, strong, & capable. Maybe that's just how the story ends up in your mind. Sorry if Mccain's less than stellar campaign/ voting record isn't great news to you. I don't like ti myself!
Newsweek will do anything to elect Obama is silly. Why do they print factcheck.org's findings about BOTH candidates? Why do they even give Cindy the time of day?
Mccain makes himself look bad in print, in person, & definitely in front of us real people.
Tell that weird guy to stop calling everybody "my friend" over & over again. He sounds broken & scared, like a lost toy!
Very true!
Some of you who read my posts about investment banks driving up the price of oil through commodities futures trading did not believe me that this was a real issue, despite the fact that the Senate is investigating it. Well, it really is an issue and an important one, so important the the Department of Justice is going to investigate.
Today Senator Obama announced a plan today to crack down on excessive energy speculation and fully close the loophole in the CFTC regulations that I referred to in my blog. This loophole is also called the "Enron Loophole" because it was created by McCain Campaign co-chair Phil Gramm at the behest of Enron lobbyists, and exempts most trading on energy commodities from regulation. As a result, the CFTC is unable to oversee the oil futures market or investigate cases where excessive speculation is driving up oil prices. Just last month, John Hofmesiter, President of Shell Oil Company, says that the proper, uninflated production price of a barrel of crude oil is no more than $65.
http://www.financialpost.com/reports/oil-watch/story.html?id=532747
Clarence Cazalot, CEO of Marathon Oil, stated in November of 2007 that "$100 oil just isn't justified by the physical demand on the market - it has to speculation on the futures market that is driving this."
http://money.cnn.com/2007/11/12/markets/oil_hundred/index.htm?postversion=2007111216
Larry Chom, Chief Economist of Platt's, states in a recent Businessweek article that speculation is adding at least $50 to the price of every barrel of oil. You can read this article in the May13, 2008 edition of Businessweek, but it is no longer available on their website unless you are a member.
http://www.businessweek.com/bwdaily/dnflash/content/may2008/
To see what Senator Obama is doing to correct this serious problem and lower the price of gas and oil, go to his website:
http://my.barackobama.com/page/community/post/stateupdates/gG5Rzb
Now THAT is my kind of President! Sees the problem, and moves to fix it, while Bush and McCain are sitting on their hands.
I love to see that real stuff getting posted!! But, I've just got to stop and CORRECT YOU. Bush & Mccain are not just sitting on their hands! WHy, they are doing SO MUCH MORE to help us get out of this mess.
WHY, they have BOTH assured me that once we open up this new land to drilling, and the scientist and environmentalists do their jobs for a few years in helping to figure out just how much oil we can suck up while doing NOT A WHOLE LOT OF DAMAGE to the earth. I mean, they have a great plan for fixing this mess in TEN STINKING YEARS! That's what they came up with. YEP.
AND....
They decided they need not support the bills to investigate and stop the speculation and what not , find some way to regulate the oil trade, Nothing for the short term. Nothing.
Drilling! 10 years from now we'll have 2 1/2 years of oil all set to go! And I'm sure this will affect the beaches you coastal folks.
THEY SAT ON EACH OTHER'S HANDS & CAME UP WITH IS MESS.
Cindy McCain seems to be a very strong woman and excellent First Lady material. She apparently has not had an easy life despite her monetary wealth. She is not stingy with her money but is a philanthropist. as well. But there will be attacks and unfounded accusations of adultery, etc. from the fart left. That is to be expected. Much is at stake since having the Obamas in the White House would be a total disaster.
TommyBooBoo, get over it! Nobody really gives a rat's ass about Cindy, her Man's associations with other females while away from his wife, her money & how "troubled" she was with all that HORRIBLE money.
THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE THINGS I'M CONCERNED ABOUT!!!!
John's gonna have to do a lot MORE masturbating (if possible!), or being absent from work if Cindy still stays in AZ.
and having Bush at the White house isn't a total disaster? Or better yet, having someone that sided with him 93% of the time wouldn't be a total disaster? Wake up!!
This time, you have no chance, Obama will win by a landslide.
