I ahve read so many of these posts i am nearly sick! Why is it that everyone goes off on some politcal rant when it comes to this article. Can we not just appreciate the fact that while her motives may or may not be the best, she still is donating money to help the poor. I am neither republian or democrat, so i could really care less about her or her husband, but i do appreciate the fact that she is helping the world in her own way.

Re: Bill 45: well said...factural arguments wonderful, desperate grasping of straws is pitiful...

abuela13...Why don't you go over to Obama's site and ask questions. Looks like you'd feel more comfortable and welcome on his site.

    abuela 13:

probably some of the same reasons John Kerry and his wife did not file jointly. You are right, think before you vote, but not filing taxes jointly absolutely does not mean they necessarily have something to hide.

Cindy McCain in the SECOND Mrs. McCain, she is the woman who had an affair with John McCain while he was married to his first wife, she is the person who married John McCain less than a month after he divorced his first wife. These things all speak to character - his and hers! They are both lacking and no where near Presidential material. John McCain will curse and swear whenever he feels like it, no class F words thrown around like it's nothing and Cindy McCain got addicted to pills due to politics??? How in the world is she going to handle the Presidency if being a Senator's wife got her to turn to pills?? Think America, think about the type of person you want leading this country. . . .

You who are without sin, please cast the first stone. Looks like a lot of you think very highly of yourselves. You had rather pick on her for something that happened 29 years ago than to look at what kind of woman she has become. Cindy McCain has done more charitable work for deprived children, including adopting one and being instrumetal in the adoption of another. Which of you has come close so that y ou can judge her? She is a fine and admirable woman and would make a wonderful First Lady. By the way.....many folks who are married file separate tax returns. It is done all the time....and not just by the rich.

  • Posted By: abuela13 @ 06/28/2008 1:06:02 PM

You make look Cindy McCain, like somebody she's not, sorry to all of you that believe all this,I don't think she'd make a good first lady for she doesn't even file taxes with her so-called husband.

holly bailey is correct. michelle obama only corrected herself after obama's advisers told her to straighten out. her appearance on the view was so fake. see for youself.

Holly Bailey, you got Michelle Obama's quote WRONG. Michelle Obama actually said, "for the first time in my ADULT LIFE, I'm REALLY proud of my country."

You should only use quotations when you quote someone CORRECTLY. You would think that as a journalist, (and for NEWSWEEK?!) that would be common knowledge... UNLESS you are INTENTIONALLY trying to add your own SPIN?

Putting aside who she is, where her money comes from, whatever addictions or tragedies she's had in her past (who hasn't).... I'm distrubed by issues of CHARACTER.

What does it say about her character to get involved with a married man? Granted, his marriage was failing, but still, he was in a committed, legal relationship with another woman when she first met John McCain.

What does it say about His character to propose to another woman while still married?

What does it say about each of them, that both lied to the other about their ages when they first met?

    Character, Ethics, Morality

I don't care how long you spend as a POW, or how addicted you are to pain pills -- lying about your age to the opposite sex, proposing and agreeing to marriage while another marriage is still in progress -- these are the actions of people with questionable decision-making skills, at the very least. They reveal a level of self-centeredness in each person that will have a bearing on how this nation is perceived in the event he becomes president.

The reason Cindy McCain gets labeled a trophy wife is because she plays the part so well. She clings to the vestiges of youth through an OBVIOUS use of botox, trying to maintain the visage of someone in her late 30's, early 40's. She wants to look 40's years younger than her spouse, even when she's not. Again, one questions the character of a person who is unable to bear aging with more honesty.

I shudder at the thought of First Lady Cindy. It is frightening to think what she would do to the perception of this country in the role.

As a former 45 year Arizona resident, who graduated one year ahead of Ms. McCain and attended the same grammar and high school, this is a PR job if ever I saw one. Left out is the factual information on just how Ms. McCain's family acquired the Budweiser distributorship to begin with (Google James Hensley and Kemper Marley) and also quite a whitewash insofar as Senator McCain's actually betrayal of this constituents in both the Keating fiasco, and his 'open borders' stances while his fellow Arizonans lives and property are being put at risk each and every day due to the border hoppers. Arizona has one of the highest personal property crime rates in the nation - so Senator McCain's expertise in 'national security' certainly hasn't helped those who actually put him in office, and also his deaf ear over the years to their pleas for the benefit of his corporate backers.

And the only ones really that cheer him on, are those American sheep who believe the main stream whitewash and haven't done their research, and the retirees in Sun City who aren't actual Arizonans either, and know nothing about the state or it's history.

As a former 45 year Arizona resident, who graduated one year ahead of Ms. McCain and attended the same grammar and high school, this piece is a PR piece and leaves much factual information out......including how her family acquired the Annheseur Bush distributorship and their wealth. Suggest those that are so quick to sing the McCain's praise, mostly those 'transplant' Sun City resident unaware of both the background of the state, and Senator McCain's betrayal of his constituents time and again (Keating, illegal amnesty) are mostly those singing his praises in Arizona. The many who have lived under his 'national security' expertise while leaving his fellow Arizonans at the mercy of the border hoppers and such, do not.

I think you found her. I believe if she was the wife of a democrat candidate you would have run the headline "Cindy McCain A Strong Independent Woman".

  • Posted By: FirstZebra @ 06/28/2008 12:07:28 PM

Well, she sure has true grit..I normally don't like officers, (EX USN 1st class), But I tip my hat to Mrs Cindy and will vote for John.

  • Posted By: jazz40 @ 06/28/2008 11:58:40 AM

Cindy and John McCain are truly honorable people. They don't ring their own bell and tell you all they have done for charity and to help others. Yet the racist Michelle Obama does nothing but whine...while she and Barack take and benefit from all that America has to offer! Do some research before you condemn others.

All I see is another Trophy Wife with a trust fund who didn't really need (or love) a husband. She had enough money to overcome her addiction problems, she is willing to sacrifice her son to the military and everytime I see her being "independent" is that spin for ignorance/ apathy of a husband who wasn't there and didnt really care? No woman who is married should be compared to a single mother or the husband is a jerk. If he can not be involved with his home then he is not qualified to lead our country.

It seems everyone blames the politicians for the state the US is now in....but in reality its the American Voter that got us into the corruption and mess we are now in.....the majority of the voters in American have bought into the two party system. You complain and complaoin but you keep voting for your party be it Demo or Repub. Get a freekin back bone and vote every Dem and Reub out of office even if it means taking your crummy hands and writing a name on a ballot. The two major parties have passed so many laws to prevent smaller parties from having a fair chance so its up to you AMERICA to vote for the smaller party candidates even if you have to write their name down on paper. Until the American Voters do this you will have the same old same old for years to come...........don't you people get it....the Dems and the Repubs have no one to answer too........vote them all out of office and you send a message to future Dems and Repubs .......but like sheep led to the slaughter you voters will follow them to the slaughterhouse election after election.

Actually I do think that policy makers are to blame, although admittely it is the fault of the uneducated voting masses that we have declined in our levels of production wholly outsourcing our own economy. How can the American people be so without foresight? A sad thing indeed. From a physics standpoint divided forces are not as powerful as a pure force, hence the existence of the two opposing forces. Our political system is based on the british system which explains the similarities there. Also rather than encourage the development of new business we in the US unfairly tax new upstarts, a fault in part by the actively lobbying monopolies. Active competition is discouraged by these types of corporations, as President Lincoln feared. He was well ahead of his time.

I admire and stand in awe of Cindy McCain. As a woman of her same age I looked at my life and couldn't even fathom having done and gone through the different events she did.
She has the humility of life experiences and graciousness of a leaders better half. Humanitarianism of a passionate mother and business woman.
Cindy has dealt with and been victorious and has become a stronger role model for many middle aged women.
I slammed my fist down on a principles desk once because of a passionate belief. I think she has done amazingly well for the plate she was given.

GO CINDY,. At least you have NO PROBLEM SAYING YOU ARE PROUDTO BE AN AMERICAN. .

    • Posted By: Mrs. Jones @ 06/28/2008 10:59:20 AM

It's extremely easy to be proud when you've inherited millions and had everything given to you.

Obviously Mrs. McCain has led a very interesting life, but don't get caught up in that simple line that keeps getting repeated as if that makes someone a better person than another. Personally, I would like to hear her say more than that one line.

    • Posted By: bswhite56 @ 06/28/2008 10:23:16 AM

susie from somewhere, I agree. I'm also proud to be an American.
