Know why McCain wants to distance himself from former Senator Phil Gramm? It's not because of Gramm's obnoxious remarks calling Americans "a nation of whiners" who are in "a mental recession." Those remarks were so ascerbic that they may've been made just to give McCain an excuse to distance himself from Gramm. This issue is a lot deeper than it looks on the surface.

When Gramm was a Senator he was Chairman of the Banking Committee. He pushed through the legislation known as the "Enron Loophole." This loophole allowed US investment banks to bypass Federal regulations governing futures trading, and is the reason why investment banks were able to falsely inflate the prices of oil, wheat, corn and other commodities through massive futures trading, causing your costs of gas, heating oil and food to go through the roof.

Gramm also created the Gramm-Leach-Biley Act, which got rid of the laws that seperate banking, insurance and brokerage activities in America. The Gramm Act was touted as a new way to protect consumer privacy, but the real meat on the Act's bones was banking deregulation. Essentially, this Act did away with laws written after the Great Depression to protect us from another Wall Street/Banking Industry collapse. That's right, Gramm stripped the system of it's safe guards nine years ago, and guess what? The value of the dollar has nose-dived, four major economic institutions have failed, Wall Street is unstable, and we are in a worsening recession.

Notably, the US investment banks that gained the most from the Enron Loophole and from the Gramm Act contributed more than a million dollars to Gramm's campaign.

Currently Gramm is Vice Chairman of UBS, the Swiss Bank that came up with the idea of "death bonds." Worse, though, UBS is involved in a scam where they sold auction rate securities to American customers. Auction rate securities are supposed to be as safe as cash, but the way UBS did it, the fees garnished by their in-house investment bankers were intentionally higher than the return on the securities, ripping off their American customers. The Massachusetts Attorney General has already filed charges against UBS, and private brokers world-wide have dropped UBS stock. UBS is forecasted to lose 82.91% of it's value in 2008. We are talking about the corporate bank where Gramm is Vice Chairman. Looking at his track record there and at the havoc he has wrought on the US economy through the Senate Banking Committee, it's clear that either Gramm is a criminal or grossly incompetent.

Now McCain wants nothing to do with Gramm, wants us to forget Gramm has been a key player on McCain's team. Gramm was McCain's campaign CO-CHAIR and LEADING ECONOMIC ADVISOR. Previously, McCain had said that he planned to appoint Gramm as SECRETARY OF THE TREASURY.

With Gramm as McCain's leading economic advisor, now you know why economists and analysts say that McCain's economic policy plans are untenable.

As projected by the increasingly leftwinged, increasingly dishonest AP at any rate.[a full summary of their journalistic departures from facts, which are becoming alarmingly legion,[and patently partisan, which is not their damned business], may be viewed at the libertarian www.instapundit.com]. ''Change'',obviously, does not tilt always into ''good''territory, for social issues, the economy, energy or foreign policy. Indeed, things,as bad as they may be [energy] or appear [Iraq],have the capability to become much worse. The problem is that while leftwingers[being of a strident political wing]are easy to sell down the river, governance by a liberal ideology is as intractable as anything we have seen between 2001-2006,when the GOP had undisputed control of the three government branches.
No longer. A Congress that promised us a ''drained swamp'',run by liberal governance has shown complete inertia on the days major issues. And when it is not static,it is corrupt,as any of the recently observed pay-to-play schemes involving Democrats illuminate.[a real mess involving a federal investigation of House Judiciary Chairman John Conyers[Mich] wife is now brewing in Detroit. What role Conyers may have played is still unknown, and of course the firesale deal on mortgage rates offered majority -Democrats who sit on banking committees by the disgraced COUNTRYWIDE Loans is still on the front burner].Senate Majority Leader Reids stock is in freefall in his native Nevada, with voters seeing him as a person who is not a clear thinker,as his ''energy is making us sick''speech demonstrated. Obama,as president, with what he has to work with in Congress, has the capacity to create ''change''that will create negative impacts for this country, barring a ''throw the bums out''coup by American voters THIS IS BARROWED FROM LEE HOLMES

We could wait a lifetime for a skeleton key presidential nominee to come along who flawlessly interfaces with each of our pet issues, and, consequently, we'd probably die a politically disappointed and overly cynical death.

What attracted me to Senator Obama's candidacy wasn't that he was going to evolve into some kind of liberal messiah who I would agree with all the time. He never really made any promises of that sort, and it was clear -- especially to Kucinich and Edwards supporters -- that Senator Obama wasn't entirely in line with what are generally considered to be netroots or progressive causes. Rather, he's always been the pragmatic liberal whose every slogan and statement -- often employing the collective pronoun "we" -- seeks common ground between deep blue and blood red. He's the liberal who this week, while simultaneously reaching out to evangelical voters, issued an unequivocal statement of opposition against any constitutional amendments banning same-sex marriage. That's textbook Obama.

After I read the letter of support he sent to the Alice B. Toklas LGBT Democratic Club, I remembered why I chose to support the senator's campaign -- and why it evolved into an enthusiasm for a politician that I've never quite experienced in my adult life. So why then...? In the simplest terms possible, choosing to support Senator Obama has never been about issues, but rather, it's always been about, 1) electing a thoughtful, smart president we can reference with pride -- a president who won't flatly embarrass us every damn day, and 2) electing a president who can inspire and negotiate the necessary support he'll need to roll back the darkness of the Bush years.

    Continued below:

    Continued From Above:

To that effect, and even though there are many who come close, I can't name another presidential-quality politician who's shown himself to be better suited to achieve these broad goals. Despite how we feel about individual issues like FISA or NAFTA, I think most of us with liberal or progressive tendencies can agree that we have a candidate here who is going to succeed on these challenges, while potentially forming a long-range coalition of support that could one day result in a purely progressive netroots candidate.

Those of us who have been strapped into this dark ride -- arms and legs locked into the tram, following these crimes and scandals and unconstitutional measures for too long... we've been damaged a little. We've been round-house kicked in the throat once too often. Sometimes by members of our own party. So it makes sense when some of us express shock or disillusionment at the actions of a politician regardless of their party affiliation. Besides, there's nothing wrong with criticizing the friendlies (though we're told that, politically, it might be wiser to keep our powder dry until after Senator McBush is soundly defeated). But what has served to keep me sane during these last weeks -- or saner -- has been the broad-stroke recollection of why, irrespective of the finer points, I decided to back this guy named Barack Obama for president in the first place.

If we're able to deliver the mandate he'll require in November -- which means a solid electoral college victory and expectations-defying down-ballot victories -- Senator Obama will help to vindicate our long-suffering, dark ride generation and, thusly, our time in American history -- a time that seems to be so perfectly summarized in thumbnail-form by this current Summer of Awful. If we can keep our attention focused on the big ideas that attracted us to the senator in the first place, he will make us proud.

Comment: Id like to see a candidate address and try to fix this:

How many zeros in a billion? This is too true to be funny.

The next time you hear a politician use the word 'billion' in a casual manner, think about whether you want the 'politicians' spending YOUR tax money.

A billion is a difficult number to comprehend, but one advertising agency did a good job of putting that figure into some perspective in one of it's releases.

A billion seconds ago it was 1959.

A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.

A billion hours ago our ancestors were living in the Stone Age.

A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two feet.

A billion dollars ago was only 8 hours and 20 minutes, at the rate our government is spending it.

While this thought is still fresh in our brain... let's take a look at New Orleans .. It's amazing what you can learn with some simple division.

Louisiana Senator, Mary Landrieu (D) is presently asking Congress for 250 BILLION DOLLARS to rebuild New Orleans . Interesting number... what does it mean?

Well... if you are one of the 484,674 residents of New Orleans (every man, woman, and child) you each get $516,528.

Or... if you have one of the 188,251 homes in New Orleans , your home gets $1,329,787.

Or... if you are a family of four... your family gets $2,066,012.

Washington, D. C???. HELLO! Are all your calculators broken??

Accounts Receivable Tax, Building Permit Tax, CDL License Tax, Cigarette Tax, Corporate Income Tax, Dog License Tax, Federal Income Tax, Federal Unemployment Tax (FUTA), Fishing License Tax, Food License Tax, Fuel Permit Tax, Gasoline Tax, Hunting License Tax, Inheritance Tax, Inventory Tax, IRS Interest Charges (tax on top of tax), IRS Penalties (tax on top of tax), Liquor Tax, Luxury Tax, Marriage License Tax, Medicare Tax, Property Tax, Real Estate Tax, Service charge taxes, Social Security Tax, Road Usage Tax (Truckers), Sales Taxes, Recreational Vehicle Tax, School Tax, State Income Tax, State Unemployment Tax (SUTA), Telephone Federal Excise Tax, Telephone Federal Universal Service Fee Tax, Telephone Federal, State and Local Surcharge Tax, Telephone Minimum Usage, Surcharge Tax, Telephone Recurring and Non-recurring Charges Tax, Telephone State and Local Tax, Telephone Usage Charge Tax, Utility Tax, Vehicle License Registration Tax, Vehicle Sales Tax, Watercraft Registration Tax, Well Permit Tax., Workers Compensation Tax

    STILL THINK THIS IS FUNNY?

Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago...and our nation was the most prosperous in the world.

We had absolutely no national debt... We had the largest middle class in the world... and Mom stayed home to raise the kids.

What happened? Can you spell 'POLITICIANS!'

And I still have to press '1' for English.

    What the heck happened?????

    This is also Rich:

Johnnie Midnight is at it again

There's a myth out there that the McCain campaign and the media have cooperated to create. It says that John McCain is reluctant to exploit his Vietnam POW story for political advantage, so modest and full of integrity is he. We've seen this repeated again and again, not just by McCain and his supporters but by reporters who ought to know better.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

From the first time he ran for Congress in 1982 up to the present day, McCain has made his POW story the centerpiece of his entire political career. The key moment of that 1982 campaign was when he responded to his opponent's (absolutely true) accusation that McCain was a carpetbagger by saying, "As a matter of fact, when I think about it now, the place I lived longest in my life was Hanoi." At every point since, it has been the deft use of this tool that has brought McCain renewed attention or won him a key victory.

McCain has every right to talk about Vietnam all he wants -- it's his story, and no serious person has ever disputed the details that are available. But don't tell us he's reluctant to use it, because he isn't. He talks about it to voters, he talks about it to contributors, he talks about it to reporters, he talks about it with seriousness, he jokes about it, and his campaign makes every attempt it can to remind people of what happened to him in Vietnam.

But what happened with Gen. Clark reveals the McCain Rules, as he and the press would have us understand them. Here's how things are supposed to work: It's fine for the McCain campaign to run ads touting his time as a POW, create web videos touting his time as a POW, have him mention his time as a POW in speeches, and have him bring it up in debates (remember "I was tied up at the time"?). In other words, it's fine to have John McCain's entire presidential run be presented through the filter of his POW experience. Should, however, someone even ask the question of whether the fact that McCain was a POW really qualifies him to be president, that would be a deeply offensive affront to all that is right and good, and must not be tolerated. Talk about having it both ways.

As assuredly as the last 7 + years in the States has been unbelievably lame it will, even more assuredly continue with your vote for McCain

Wesley Clark, what's really scary is this guy was the general at NATO. He ran NATO. Wesley Clark has had over a week now to get himself properly informed on this issue and has not done so. He's either unable to, or is unwilling to, or doesn't care about the truth. When he was running NATO, there was an accident -- you people may not remember this, but, of course, my memory extends way, way back. You may remember that in the early days of the mad bomber of Bosnia's campaign, somebody misaimed, misfired on his orders, probably, and hit the Chinese embassy. It almost became an international incident. Meanwhile, he stands by as 800,000 Rwandans are being slaughtered, his quote, yeah, it happened so fast, it just slipped by, but he ends up misfiring at the Chinese embassy, mistargeting. Man, This is Rich

    Johnnie Midnight Strikes Again

Let's keep in mind that no one seems to have argued with Clark on the merits of his claim. No one responded by saying, "General Clark is wrong -- in fact, McCain's POW experience does qualify him to be president." I suppose one could make that argument, but I haven't seen anyone actually make it. Instead, what they have said is that Clark was out of bounds to even raise the issue. To even assert that McCain's Vietnam experience isn't in and of itself a qualification for the Oval Office is such an unforgivable transgression that its merits don't need to be addressed.

There is, however, one person who wouldn't disagree with Clark's statement that being a POW doesn't qualify you for the presidency. When asked by the National Journal in 2003, "Do you think that military service inherently makes somebody better equipped to be commander-in-chief?" this politician answered, "ABSOLUTELY NOT". History shows that some of our greatest leaders have had little or no military experience. ... When one advises [a presidential candidate] that they should be very careful about how much you talk about that, because you don't want it to sound self-serving." The politician who said "ABSOLUTELY NOT" was John McCain, and the presidential candidate he was talking about was John Kerry.

Ha Ha Ha Ho Ho Ho He He He

"McCain't and isn't able to Govern" is a mere mirage of himself

extend your inevitable PAIN with your vote for McCain

GENERAL WESLEY CLARK: Because in the matters of national security policy making, it's a matter of understanding risk. It's a matter of gauging your opponents, and it's a matter of being held accountable. John McCain's never done any of that in his official positions. I certainly honor his service as a prisoner of war. He was a hero to me and to hundreds of thousands and millions of others in Armed Forces as a prisoner of war. He has been a voice on the Senate Armed Services Committee, and he has traveled all over the world. But he hasn't held executive responsibility. That large squadron in Air- in the Navy that he commanded, it wasn't a wartime squadron. He hasn't been there and ordered the bombs to fall. He hasn't seen what it's like when diplomats come in and say, 'I don't know whether we're going to be able to get this point through or not. Do you want to take the risk? What about your reputation? How do we handle it-?'

-it's publicly.' He hasn't made those calls.

So, in short, General Clark respects John McCain's service, calls him a hero to millions, but notes that experience doesn't make him qualified to be Commander in Chief.

General Clark called McCain a hero to millions for his sacrifice. And, that's a pretty big statement coming from a man who, himself, left Vietnam on a stretcher. But, facts are facts:

    * Senator McCain's service and experience, both as a POW and as a Senator apparently hasn't infused him with a dose of good judgment.

    * Senator McCain's experience hasn't led him to realize that the war in Iraq and it's continuance has empowered and emboldened Iran, and destabilized the region.

    * Senator McCain's experience hasn't caused him to recognize that we're losing ground in Afghanistan, and Osama bin Laden is still out there, plotting.

    * Senator McCain's experience didn't lead him to support the 21st Century GI Bill -- he opposed it. It didn't even make him feel the need to get back to Washington to vote on this -- one of the most important veterans' bills this Congress. He twice skipped votes on the GI Bill, to fundraise.

    * Senator McCain's experience didn't help him empathize with troops are overstretched and overdeployed, when he voted against the bipartisan Webb-Hagel "Dwell Time Amendment," which would have given troops as much time at home as in the field.

Senator McCain is running on his experience, saying it makes him ready to lead right away. By doing so, he is asking people to look at what that experience taught him. By looking at Senator McCain's positions and votes (or lack of them), it seems that experience has not given him the right judgment on important issues of our time. And, while we should all honor Senator McCain's service, that doesn't mean we should necessarily honor it by putting him in the White House to take up George W. Bush's third term.

So, General Clark is 100 percent absolutely right, and he should not back down, These are important times, and deserve a blunt and honest debat

They said he had an old map.

Obama all CHANGE all the time:

CHANGE ... what you'll have left after I raise taxes.
CHANGE ... your gas prices upwards, but gradually
CHANGE ... my hat size because every day my head gets bigger
CHANGE ... the national motto to: In Obama We Trust.
CHANGE ... what I do to my story depending upon whom I'm talking to.
CHANGE ... what I do every day to my foreign policy
CHANGE ... what I do to my trade policy depending upon whom I'm talking to
CHANGE ... your lifestyle because the rest of the world doesn't like you
CHANGE ... my friends when they turn out NOT to be "The person I knew"
CHANGE ... what my radical left-wing ideologue handlers have in store for you
CHANGE ... what I do to facts to suit my needs.
CHANGE ... my pastor's screed is OK, yours isn't
CHANGE ... FISA line that we crossed but I have now moved back
CHANGE ... from public to private campaign financing because I can raise more money
CHANGE ... I'll debate John McCain anytime, anywhere; except when and where he asks me.
CHANGE ... the words of others and claim they're mine, because words count.
CHANGE ... the meaning of Bible verses to meet my own liberal world view
CHANGE ... more of you into victims of something and build government programs to take care of you
CHANGE ... you into a ward of the state so that I OWN you and your vote
CHANGE ... your mind and believe in me for I am the Obamessiah come to save you
CHANGE ... into giggling sycophants; liberal mainstream media do under the spell of the Obamessiah
CHANGE ... the chant I use to control the weak-minded Obamanized masses
CHANGE ... into an Obamatron; join the cult, repeat the chant: CHANGE, CHANGE, CHANGE ...
CHANGE ... what I plan to do to America because it's the greatest country on the planet.
CHANGE ... the national anthems of all the nations of the world to Kumbaya using my messianic foreign policy skills
CHANGE ... into mumble-mouthed idiot when I don't have prepared speech to read.
CHANGE ... historical facts to agree with my life story
CHANGE ... I said the DC gun ban was constitutional, but now I agree with Supreme Court ruling it unconstituional.
CHANGE ... what I said because my rhetoric was overheated and amplified
CHANGE ... but not for us, not the left-wing liberal elite, CHANGE is for YOU.
CHANGE ... anything and everything I've said or done in my life if it will help me win
CHANGE ... the definition of change to: What I say, when I say it, to whom I say it.
CHANGE ... I can CHANGE when it suits me
CHANGE ... you can believe in for a day or two
CHANGE ... you can't keep up with
CHANGE ... your underwear because you'll defecate in your pants when you wake up to find out what the left-wing liberal ideologues have done after gaining complete control of government.

CHANGE ... YOU better freaking BELIEVE IN because it will WORK YOU over.

Republicans all FEAR all the time, or the Politics of FEAR:

FEAR - that I may have to pay as much as everybody else, percentage wise, in taxes.
FEAR - that gas prices will drop and our Exxon shares will lose value
FEAR - that other people might be just as good as we are even if they seem different.
FEAR - is what I put in my story no matter whom I'm talking to.
FEAR - is my foreign policy.
FEAR - free trade agreements that include fair trade protections.
FEAR - drives me because I'm convinced the rest of the world is out to get me.
FEAR - my friends when they turn out to have a conscience.
FEAR - what I do to facts because I might see I was wrong or worse yet, somebody else might see I was wrong.
FEAR - is my pastor's creed, And everyone else is just wrong.
FEAR - even investigating FISA abuses or holding companies accountable, because they may find my party stomped on the Constitution.
FEAR - financing that might hold people and candidates accountable for the accuracy of what they say.
FEAR - any debate with Obama that isn't moderated by conservative hit squads, and especially if it follows any accepted debate format.
FEAR - the words of others and distort them if they don't support my cause.
FEAR - that I may have misinterpreted the Bible and that threatens my own preconceived view of the world.
      FEAR - any government programs.
FEAR - Obama because he's building an army of people that will actually help him CHANGE things.
FEAR - that the media may report the truth, so I just call them biased.
FEAR - the chant I use to control the weak-minded Republican lackies
      FEAR - CHANGE, CHANGE, CHANGE!
FEAR - America because it's the greatest country on the planet, and if it changes anything well I just don't know what that would do.
FEAR - the nations of the world that we don't control because they are out to get me
FEAR - turns me into a babling idiot whether I have prepared speech or not because I have no concept of modern day economics or the consequences of my actions.
FEAR - that I don't even know what Obama said about gun control laws because I've distorted it so many different ways that I forgot, so I'll just call him a "flip-flopper" and call it good..
FEAR - that my rhetoric was not exaggerated and distorted enough.
FEAR - that people may find out the truth.
FEAR - Obama, so I just distort half what he says, call him a "flip-flopper", and say, "We don't really know anything about him", so BE VERY AFRAID. .
FEAR - of CHANGE, so present the same old policies, relabel them new, and hope that no one will notice.
FEAR - you'll defecate in your pants when you wake up to find out what somebody else will have done after gaining complete control of government and actually solving some of the problems.

McCain: the AUDACITY to take other people???s ideas belittle them, make fun of them, and so WE DON???T HAVE TO THINK!

I'd like to introduce you to HolyRoller and maybe you two could just exchange addresses and privately communicate. Or maybe you already know each other very well, it would seem like it.
