Comment: That Barrak Obama spent unusually long as a state legislator before moving up would indicate that despite his splendid opportunities for education, he is what used to be called "a slow learner".

Comment: Another day, another press release about how great Barakc Hussain is. Seems the press likes how easy it is to change him. One day guns are bad, then they are good. One day Gays are bad, then they are good. When will he finally admit he was a muslim, studying in a muslim country with muslim kids. His fathers (yes both of them) were muslims. Even if he changes later, it still makes him a muslim. He will never admit what he was, he would rather we forget about it.

    • Posted By: muslimsforpresidents @ 07/02/2008 11:56:11 PM

Comment: he is not of my religion, he is not muslim, he is christian. and where do you get your information from, why dont you join me in Mecca and learn what the difference is between muslim person and who is christian. I forgive you for your ignorance, please try meditation, yoga, and go to shrink three times a week and figure out who you are, and know that he is not muslim, perhaps you have dual personalities and you are muslim? take it easy and be a coolio person, chill pill time, repeat instructions 50 times

Comment: Obama doesn't have to admit whether he was a Muslim. Why is that any one's business?

Comment: hussain Obama is a "Post Turtle" When you're driving down a country road and you come across a fence post with a turtle balanced on top, that's a 'post turtle'.
. 'You know he didn't get up there by himself, he doesn't belong up there, he doesn't know what to do while he is up there, and you just wonder what kind of a dumb ass put him up there in the first place.
These are the policy differences between the two presumptive major-party nominees for president. John McCain (R) is one of the Senate's most outspoken supporters of the Iraq war, while Barack Obama (D) has opposed it from the start. Senator McCain wants big tax cuts and less government spending; Senator Obama wants tax breaks targeted at the middle class and greater government involvement in job creation. On healthcare, McCain emphasizes consumer choice and market forces, while Obama (post turtle) favors government action that puts the nation on track toward bankruptcy.

Comment: judgement is more important than experience, because increasing experience is becoming a burden of the past it hinders the acceptance of better ways of doing things... the pace of the markets, technology and education has created this rule... ignore it at your peril... that's why old money has quickly been replaced by new money... maybe you don't understand... do some research into contemporary economics...

    • Posted By: mourner @ 06/28/2008 4:16:55 PM

Comment: You claim judgment is more important than experience? How can one possibly judge when he has no experience to base it on? I point out for you to ???teach the controversy??? movement, where disinformation is dressed to a T, well spoken, humble and kind. This in no way makes them right, however since, as you say judgment is more important than experience, America???s educational system is falling painfully behind the rest of the developed world. I could simply judge you a fool, as your arguments contain little/no merit, however you might simply be quixotic. How could I know unless I had previous experience with your type? Knowledge has never been a burden (unless a church is disagreeing with your science).
As for your economic mastery, I suppose you refer to good money following bad? Well please, enlighten me, what drastic reforms has Obama proposed? Has he developed a miracle cure for all the corrupt and ineffective systems of government that have some how managed to escape the headlines? I think not. He has pointed it out, as has every politician for the last 50 years, and I have yet to see any worthwhile lasting reform or policy on the issues.

Comment: The appeal of the Obama campaign is its meekness and humulity.. humble enough to ask all Americans for support, not reliant on old sytems and structures that have failed Amercia... the Appalachian American, the Black American, the Native American have been poor and ignored for 200 years, that is the reality of American political history - that's the common ground bringing Americans together... the well educated and previllaged Americans are also turning away from the status quo, because they too recognise that there is a lot that is wrong with American politics... a lot that has gone astray from the path set out by the founding fathers of America... moreover they understand the increasing importance of real democracy to business and economic prosperity...

The realisation that the Appalachian Ameican has been poor for 200 years, proves that there is no grand racist conspiracy, it proves that even if you are white, black or blue, if you were not considered economically mobile you were forgotten and left on the scrap heap... I believe that both white and black Americans are now realising this, especially as people from these groups become more educated... Appalachia can no longer be appeased by the notion that they are racially superior, when the reality is that they have been bottom of the economic ladder along with blacks for 200 years; blacks no longer believe that they are inferior, they have seen that power comes from organising and focusing their power of consumption... all Americans realise that history has been all about economics, nobody has really cared untill you showed them your money... a new politics is needed to ensure that everyone is enlightened and empowered to deliver what they can for their country and for their families, no matter who they are... because nothing else matters...

So, I am convinced that Americans will vote for Obama... that is the map to victory... no one who is honest about modern America will do otherwise... he is the only candidate who has ever presented truth and enlightenment to the people... he has not stood up for race or money, he stands only for principle... and deep down inside we all know this!!!!

    • Posted By: mourner @ 06/28/2008 4:27:37 PM

Comment: Next I call you on the ???appeal??? of the Obama campaign. I care not for his marketing strategy. You can take all your passionate, pointless rambling about the people he appeals to, stand it against the proven integrity and tangible evidence of what John McCain has done and tell me what still stands when the wind blows. Here is a hint, dreams and fairy tales, false promises and hope disappear when you wake up and are faced with real issues.
One must be careful when comparing the intelligent to the educated; these are not synonyms (although they should be). I have seen the products of the American educational system and the business driven colleges and universities; I have yet to be impressed. Of the few intelligent people I know, most have come to be so by experience, not school.
Bringing up the founding fathers. . . .really? I???ll put it simply. They had a plan. They didn???t just go around giving heart felt emotional, preaching to the choir speeches that made everyone feel good. They did something called, and I put this to you slowly so you can understand it. . . . . deep breath. . . . ACT. Maybe you have heard of it? Actions speak louder than words?
I???m not sure why you used the Appalachian Americans for your example. I???m guessing you wanted to use another big word. But, since unlike you I am here for facts, I will share some with you. Just because people believe in something, doesn???t mean it is right. Let me give an example. There are 2 lines. You look at the lines, see that one is longer and then insist it must be going to the right place. Meanwhile, I will stop and ask people in both lines where they are going. It turns out your line is walking off a cliff, but you are too busy trying to prove your righteousness and yelling about how the condition of more people make that the right line, to realize you???re an idiot.
So you go ahead and continue to bark about how Obama ???presented truth and enlightenment to the people... he has not stood up for race or money, he stands only for principle... and deep down inside we all know this!!!!???
You speak for very few people when you say ???WE all know this.??? To repeat, again, that in no way means he is qualified for the job, it in no way means he has a plan, in no way deals with fact, reality, policy, reform or anything an ???educated man??? would be interested to find in their candidate.

Comment: Appalachia must take time to consider its history, its current position and its potential future... I hope they do not remain isolated, forgotten and poor for another 200 years...clinging to irony and wallowing in fantacy... defined by the current rich controlling classes....

  • Posted By: alvinernest @ 06/28/2008 10:02:47 AM

Comment: What is experience worth when it product has been economic disaster and war! surely that experience should be avoided... What is experience in a world where economic prosperity is driven by an ability to re-invent... experience is then a burden, a burden of the past, of ast markets and trades discontinued... yes lets be pragmatic about our future... lets not get carried away by the mirage of nostalgia and the gloss of reminiscence.. the future belongs to those who dare to envision it differently, not the status quo...

    • Posted By: mourner @ 06/28/2008 11:43:08 AM

Comment: The future belongs to no one if we continue to listen to hypocrites, liars and the ill informed. Big words spoken loudly and in beautiful patterns might seem to correlate with a correct answer; however I assure you they do not. This article claims that the minuscule, non-existent ???experience??? of your candidate somehow compares to the lifetime of achievements held by John McCain. It holds no merit from being one sided; simply ignoring evidence that opposes your thinking in no way validates your side.
Now you dare come along and present your gibberish that is to the contrary and expect applauds? Sir, you cannot have it both ways. Either your candidate???s experience is adequate, which anyone who has been awake in the real world can attest it is not; or not having experience is somehow a valid alternative, in which case I suggest you deny Obama the nomination and instead choose an infant.
One of the fundamental elements of human existence is to learn from our experiences, both the good and the bad. We build our minds, our hopes, our dreams, our ambitions and everything else we hold sacred on the experiences of our lives. We learn how to make progress with those of differing view points, to overcome strong beliefs of weak minds, to err on the side of caution and most importantly, to do what is right for everyone and not what we believe is right for ourselves, all from experience.
Ask yourself, would you still discount experience?
And I implore you; do not reply to the affect, ???well obviously experience means nothing to the republicans, since they continue to make poor decisions.??? I shall remind you that your party has failed to learn the basic lessons of staying focused and uniting. Further, it strays from the issue at hand, which is, are the single entities that are running for election to the office of commander in chief qualified for the job?

    Comment: NOW, THIS IS INTERESTING....................

According to RealClearPolitics, Obama is leading by 7pts in the National Poll, 70pts in the Electoral College, and leading in 5 out of the 7 "battleground" states".

RasmussenPoll is holding steady w/ Obama leading by 5pts. The Rasmussen Reports Balance of Power Calculator shows Obama leading in states with 200 Electoral College votes while McCain leads in states with 174 votes. When leaners are included, it's Obama 284, McCain 240.

The Gallup Poll is showing a national tie. But what's interesting is that Obama is no longer showing weakness w/ Catholics, Jews, or Hispanics:

"Among major U.S. religious groups, Catholic voters are most closely divided in their presidential voting preferences, with Barack Obama holding a narrow 47% to 43% advantage over John McCain. McCain leads Obama among Protestants (48% to 41%) and Mormons (70% to 23%) while Obama holds the upper hand among Jewish voters (62% to 29%) and those with no religious affiliation (65% to 25%)."

"Catholics have traditionally been a key swing-voter group, and the 2008 election is proving to be no exception. Obama's appeal to minority voters -- including Hispanics -- helps to push him ahead of McCain among Catholics. In these data, roughly one in seven Catholic registered voters report being of Hispanic ethnicity, and they prefer Obama by a 66% to 25% margin."

Whether you count the Newsweek, LA TIMES, or Bloomburg Polls, (or not), the end result remains the same - If the election were today, McCain would be TOAST!!!!!

Actually, Obama has been the front-runner since he defeated HRC, officially.

    Almost forgot.............OH HAPPY DAYS!!!!!!!!!

In this age of propaganda and marketing of candidates, I was hoping there would be some real merit to this article, sadly, I have wasted my time.

Comment: I had posted this further down but no one has responded to my challenge. I challenge someone to take a stance as to WHY they are not voting for Sen. Obama and ARE voting for McCain based on ISSUES only. Here is part one of my reasons why I'm voting for Obama:

??? 1. Taxes. He has said he will do away with the tax cuts for the rich, raise taxes on people who make $250K + a year, give the middle class (me) a $1000 tax break and will look into possibly giving the elderly who bring in $50,000 or LESS a year NO taxes at all; He will tax the h e l l out of corporations who take their jobs overseas because it's not fair that they are getting a tax break in the US and not providing jobs for US citizens. (which is only fair!) I am all for paying higher taxes if it means better programs for our people (health care for everyone and everyone paying in their fair share of FICA, etc.)

    2. The "war" in Iraq. He said that he will begin pulling troops out of there. We are in DEBT up to our eyeballs to China financing this war and our children's children will be paying it off. You can't borrow and spend all while lowering taxes on the rich. That is where the debt comes from. In order to at least begin paying it off we have got to get out of there and allow the Iraqi government to do something for themselves and let them foot their own freaking bill! People are afraid of the "tax and spend" well you can't go to war unless you "tax and spend" because if China got a case of the a$$ and decided to call in their IOU the infrastructure of the US would collapse because it's already fragile.

    3. Environment-drilling oil off the coast of the US isn't feasible because it's not going to help us now and it's not going to help us in the long run. He wants to break our dependence on foreign oil and the only way to do that is to force the oil companies to REALLY find alternatives because oil isn't forever and it's eventually going to run out. People on the West Coast, Gulf Coast and East Coast do not want oil slicks the likes of Valdez to taint their beaches. Cleaner fuel and reducing our dependence is a start;

    4. Foreign policy-sitting down and finding out from our enemies what exactly makes them our enemies is a start to trying to bring TRUE peace to this world. His stance on Cuba, taken out of context, was that he would talk to the new leader when it is clear that he is making headway on reversing what his brother did. Conditions, that have not been outlined yet, but they have to be met. We see that carrying a big stick and whacking people over the head with it only makes enemies of those around us. We don't need anymore of that. Sanctions only make the citizens of the country suffer under the hands of the dictator. You've seen Iraq, Iran and even Cuba. Did that really work? No, only the people in those countries suffered;

    • Posted By: Donmeaker @ 07/08/2008 10:19:30 PM

Comment: I will vote for McCain and not Obama because raising taxes on the high income (distinguishable from the wealthy) will reduce the work that these high productivity people do. People who are wealthy don't have to work. Their money works for them. People who have high earned income are doing something that is highly valued, and doing enough of it to make their high salaries.

If you take all of the salary of someone after they make 200,000 dollars a year, who would bother to make a single dollar after that. If you take most of it, they have less incentive to leave their family, or leave the golf course. If you subtract the product of their productive effort from the national economy, we are all poorer. Raising taxes leads to economic slowdown, which hurts the poorest first.

      2. Socialized Medicine would reduce medical care to the state of Canada, where their chief product is waiting lists. Canadians who don't want to die while on a waiting list, who are not members of parliment, come to the United States for treatment. I am not a politican, but am aging, and will need to continue to work to raise my two adopted children. I need affordable and temporally responsive medical care to continue to work.

      3. Senator Obama and Senator McCain are both wrong on the issue of illegal immigration. They are both for it, for some odd reason. Blacks suffer high unemployment while illegal aliens take most entry level jobs, but hold them for long periods of time, blocking entry into the work force for many young, and most blacks.

      4. Senator Obama has shown himself to be completely unserious in foreigh affairs. Providing legimacy to the so called president of Iran, or the Venezualan thug Chavez, would be a colossal error. Obama would sell our our friends in Iraq, and provide aid and comfort to our enemies. Once upon a time that was called treason, and so it still is in the US constitution. McCain would continue to win the war against terror by killing thousands of the most violent muslims, convincing the less radical that the violent path is untenable, and confirm to the more liberal muslims that the path to holiness is gained by prayer, pilgrimage, and charity, rather than through threats, perversion, lies, and murder,

Comment: I have tried to write a response to your retort several times; however I am having trouble. Was this intended as a joke or is your logic and ability to stay on topic so depleted you meant this?

I am at a cross roads. If i do not reply, you will believe it is because you are correct in your incoherent, irrational, illogical and further counterproductive arguments. however no amount of fact, reality or understanding i could spoon feed you would take hold. I am reminded of the saying, "beware of arguing with a stupid person because they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience"

Luckily for me, someone has already posted this below, i will copy it here.
Common fallacies of logic and rhetoric:
--Ad hominem - attacking the arguer and not the argument.
--Observational selection (counting the hits and forgetting the misses).
--Appeal to ignorance (absence of evidence is not evidence of absence).
see also Causality, Non sequitur, Post hoc, ergo propter hoc. . . actually, read the whole thing.

I must at least ask as a marine corp. brat, that you never associate yourself with the Department of Defense school system. Also, never refer to an MBA as an achievement

My advice to you, consider that I am just a bully, return to your sheltered supportive ignorance. however if you insist, i will address whatever counter points you have . . . . concocted?

Comment: However late this is...um, why is it that when you try to have a reasonable dialog with someone they always resort to insulting you instead of just sticking with the debate?

It's more respectable to agree to disagree than it is to insult the other person simply because they don't agree with you.

Respond like you did which is fine, however, I didn't say I was a Marine brat, I am an ARMY Brate (hooah) get it straight; as for me being in the DODD school system, sweetie, I was and I know and if you ask anyone who switched from a DODD school to a public school they will tell you the same thing. So if you haven't been in it, don't comment on it. Nothing like the ACTUAL experience from which the truth is spoken. Imagine THAT. And don't hate that I have a graduate degree and you have...what a GED? Or am I being to generous?

Now that I'm done insulting you as you have me...
Let's just say that we agree to disagree and that you don't have to "spoon feed" me anything because I don't eat BS.

Comment: 1. Taxes. I support these huge tax increases he ???says??? he will be imposing on the super rich. . . I expect him to put them into effect right after he gives up his huge campaign funds that are over the limit he AGREED to. (seriously, I???ll wait). Second, outsourcing jobs. The American dollar is so worthless on the world market, most of the outsourced jobs are coming back. Further, our money is so worthless that now steel, which was cheaper to import, is being manufactured at home. I don???t see his ???need??? to go after corporations who will be doing what is best for their company to begin with and bring the jobs back. Lastly, the healthcare plans everyone has presented do nothing. They will FINE people too poor to afford health care to begin with when they cannot afford the government plan. So now, not only will you deny them healthcare, you will be taking food out of their families mouths.

      2. I hate to defend the war, it was started for the wrong reasons, and it has continued for the wrong reasons. However, we need to look at history and what will happen if we do not face the mistakes we have created (our mess, we need to clean it up). Iraq was not a terrorist training ground as we were made to believe at the start of the war; HOWEVER, it is now. We have spawned so much hate in a country with nothing left to believe in, that the backlash will be inevitable and far too costly once they are resituated. This isn???t like Vietnam, an impoverished 3rd world country; these people have oil, the live blood of the developing world. You worry about the debt our children will face from the borrowed Chinese money? I worry about the retaliation that could lead to the deaths of our grandchildren.
I can???t say this enough though, the democrats need to unite, or the people of this country need to unite and charge and punish those who got us into this mess in the first place.

      3. Environment-I???m not even sure what point you are trying to make here. No the oil won???t help, we export all the oil we harvest to begin with. Oil companies are never going to take responsibility; any attempt to make them do so is in vain and only makes our government look more ineffective than it already is. Our government has held hearings every year for the past (what are we at, 5 years now?) dealing with the record profits of the oil tycoons. They walk away, unpunished, unimpressed, un-intimidated and laughing at our incompetence. If you are looking for change it will not be coming from these companies. Further simply talking about the need will not bring about the policy of action needed to make a difference

      4. I agree that UNDERSTANDING our enemies is an important move in foreign policy. As for the big stick approach, I believe you are viewing the world as a civilized place, where the motives of people are clear, everyone wants what is best for their people and to exaggerate your belief a little, unicorns that are made of

Comment: First let me thank you for at least responding because SOMEONE did. Now, for the taxes...where exactly are these jobs coming back at? All I see is more jobs being cut because of the shape of the economy. Who says they pay their overseas employees in American dollars? Everyone knows that the dollar is practically worthless and you think that is "driving them to bring jobs back?" I don't think so. Take a look around you. Detriot is practically non-existant, I live in Hampton Roads, VA and they shut down a Ford plant here and people lost their jobs several THOUSAND people lost their jobs. Every time a telemarketer calls my house, their from India; again, my sister's job has changed several times and she's sitting at the same desk.

You're right about my quote though on NAFTA. I shouldn't have put it like that because I actually DO know aobut it. It opened up free trade in this country and other countries yet we import more crap from these other countries (80% of the tomatoes comes from Mexico, all those cheap little trinkets (lapel pins, toys), clothing, etc. all come from Korea, China or Taiwain. That is what NAFTA did and it does need to be fixed. Our trade deficit with China more than doubled since it was signed by Clinton. It's always been lopsided but now it's just stupid.

Education does begin in elementary school and he's not just talking about higher education he's talking about that sh!t 'no child left behind' which forces teachers basically into a corner to pass a child who isn't ready. Like I said, I live in Hampton Roads, VA and I have children in the schools here. I have one that already graduated. The ONLY thing they teach for is the testing (SOL=Standards Of Learning) and they don't teach "outside the box" because for every child that passes those tests, the teachers are graded on that and the schools get more federal funding. It's ridiculous. Then the reason the NCLB is a collosal failure is because things aren't uniform in the education system. Each school in every state and every city/county in every state has a different requirement in order to graduate. How do I know that? I'm a product of a system BEFORE the NCLB and at least one of my children is a product of it. It was jacked up then and it's even more jacked up now. Being an Army Brat I went from a DODDS school to a public school and I was ahead in the 3 areas that it really didn't matter and behind in the 3 that it did (math, science and social studies). It is the same now. Schools in this area while they teach all on the SOLS the students aren't being taught the same things. So fixing the education system in this country really DOES start at the bottom but it has GOT to be uniformed across the board so that ALL children get the SAME education so that they CAN go to college IF they want to. No one should be forced into going because everyone is not college material.

      Comment: 5. Education-Obama's stance on education is that everyone deserves a GREAT education. Our country is far behind other countries in this arena. We have the means, which is why people from other countries come here to get it and then take it back to their countries, but it's not attainable for everyone. Education costs are going through the roof and until ALL of the children in this country have the benefit of the SAME education regardless of their living conditions at home, then we can produce some of the greatest minds in the world;

      6. Healthcare-he is for universal heath care in this country regardless. People are going broke and filing bankruptcy in record numbers because they have sudden hospital bills that are outrageous. Is it too much to ask that we all have access to the same health care that the rich do? I really don't think so as long as the quality of care is the same.

      7. NAFTA-while I'm not really sure what's going on with this, but he thinks that it needs to be fixed and I can't help but agree with him. This goes back to taxing big companies. They should NOT be enjoying the benefit of a tax break for the money that they make (under the guise of "keeping jobs here in America") when they aren't keeping the jobs here. I remember there used to be a time when things were Made with Pride in America. I haven't seen that sticker/tag on anything that I've bought in YEARS. My "American" car is not American because most of the parts come from China and Japan. It's just assembled here in the US, maybe. While I am for free trade, Obama thinks that the HUGE trade deficiet between us and China needs to be reversed. They don't allow a bunch of junk from the US or any other country into theirs yet they send all kinds of toxic crap over here for our consumption. THAT needs to be fixed;

      8. Lobbyist dictating policy-Obama is dead set against this. Lobbyist are why this country has been sold off bits and pieces at a time to other countries. (And I'm not saying this is his stance but) It's one thing to listen to a lobbyist but another to let them dicatate what policy should be. A good leader listens to all sides of an issue and then acts accordingly.

      9. My right to choose-Roe v. Wade-Obama believes in a woman's right to choose and he also believes that government has no business dictating to a woman what she can and can't do with her body. The next POTUS will be appointing a couple of Supreme Court judges and the last thing you want is someone who will overturn this landmark case. (Again, not saying that this is his stance, but ) If clinics are funded by the federal government for other things, why not this? A clinic is a clinic and as long as they are doing things the right, safe way then why not?

These are but a few reasons why I will be voting for Obama and not McCain.

Psst: did you notice that none of those things had anything to do with non-issues

Comment: 5. Education- There is much needed social reform that must be addressed before we rush headlong into offering everyone a higher education. Insuring a college education to the simpletons that we pass off as high school graduates is equivalent to putting a nice new outboard motor on a sinking ship.

        6. Healthcare- I addressed this under taxes as you had, however I would like to stress again that you are trying to treat symptoms and not addressing the problem. We live in a get rich quick world, medicine and healthcare are so expensive because the wonderful people in the healthcare field who are only trying to help and make a living; they get to spend most of their money on malpractice insurance and have to deal with the constant stream of frivolous lawsuits. If you want healthcare to be more affordable, first, end the constant greed of your fellow man, then, begin to allow the elderly to die in peace instead of wasting so much money keeping people alive. Once the quality of life is gone, the quantity is of no value, yet as Americans we still spend 75% of our lifetime medical fees in the last 4 years of life. .. normally at the expense of the tax payer.

        7. NAFTA-while I'm not really sure what's going on with this, but he thinks that it needs to be fixed and I can't help but agree with him.
I???ll just leave your quote there. .. if you do not know what is going on with something, please feel free to NOT have an opinion on it. It is ok to not know, blind speculation is far worse than admitting to not having information on a subject.

        8. Lobbyist dictating policy-Obama is dead set against this.
McCain is not? McCain is the founding father of campaign finance reform. McCain has done all he can to reform on this issue to no avail. But to sympathize with him, who in their right mind would want to give up free money that no one questions or even calls you immoral for taking? What repercussions have government personal faced from dirty dealing? And now, to watch Obama as he refuses to give up is 300 million that is against the rules. . . . I mean I feel good knowing I was right about his personality, but I feel bad that people are still going to support him and claim that he is ???against??? the barrel of money he is sitting on.

        9. My right to choose- I won???t argue this one. . . not because I support you flushing yourself from the gene pool, I just believe that a woman should have the right to choose.

Comment: Environment-we won???t have a planet to live on at the rate we are going in. All these hearings are for naught, I agree because they say the same thing every time they are in front of the panel just like the big tobacco companies. More of the same crap just on a different day of the week. I also agree that talking about it isn???t going to bring about the policy change but if we could break our dependence on oil that would at least be a start. Do you know how many products that we use for oil in this country? It???s not just used to transport goods and fuel our cars. If the taxes from the oil companies are used to fund companies that don???t use oil in their products then that will be a start. I???ve seen where everything from plastic bags to baby diapers have oil used to make them. There are alternatives out there but no one knows about them unless you hear about them like I did. THAT is how you start to ???punish??? the oil companies by not using the stuff.

Public funding has a cap on it when it???s given through your income tax return. I NEVER donate to that fund. I would like to address your saying he ???agreed??? to the limit. I have seen where the candidates were asked that question about agreeing to accept public funding and he raised his hand like the others but (and I really don???t know what his intentions were here) but it did appear that he was agreeing to them but it also looked as if he was trying to ask a question because everyone was talking at the same time. So if that is the ???agreement??? that you are referring to then I will give you that one. If you are referring to the questionnaire that he answered he said that he would agree to the public financing IF he were the nominee and IF the Republican nominee would agree to something as well. We all know that the only reason that McCain has agreed to the public financing is because he can???t raise the type of money that Obama has raised and he knows it. If the tables were reversed you and I both know that McCain would have done the same thing (if he were smart) and no one would have said a word or cried foul about it. Let???s be real about this one. It was a d@mn smart move on Obama???s part for the simple fact that if he can make more money by receiving donations from people (like me who have never checked that box on their tax return) who want to give to his campaign he would have been a fool not to take that route. A good leader looks at things from all sides and when new information becomes available that is to his benefit he changes his stance, he changes his mind because it???s a shrewd move. Only an idiot would say ???no??? to that.

Comment: Healthcare-I agree about the frivilous lawsuits. I???m a paralegal by profession. There are ???fail safes??? if you will in place by the courts, just like in criminal cases, that the plaintiff has to prove their case. No proof then no case. Simple as that. However, when a doctor, who is only doing their job and is trying to help after all, f???s up and either kills someone, leaves an instrument in someone that causes them even MORE harm than the actual operation did, botches a surgery, etc. then they should be made to pay. Those are the ones that pay the even higher malpractice insurance. Ever hear of Tort Reform? If you haven???t let me explain what that is. In a nutshell they want to put a cap on the amount that a person can get from a malpractice lawsuit at about $250,000. Let me ask you a question. How would you like it if your significant other (not sure of your gender and Idon???t want to insult you) or a parent were having a ???routine??? operation and something went wrong and the doctor ended up making things worse and by the medical records it shows that he did the wrong thing (they have experts, other doctors, who will tell you and if you don???t have someone who will testify to that fact, you have no case) and your significant other or your parent will need round the clock care for the REST of their lives (and if it???s your significant other they aren???t old by any means) do you mean to tell me that you will be satisfied with the $250,000 that you will get (less the attorneys fees and the EVER mounting doctor???s bills) to take care of them? I don???t think you will because you will be right back where you were to begin with.

In order to make health care affordable we need to put a lid on how much is charged. Like with your health insurance and with Medicare/Medicaid, they only allot a certain amount to be charged for a certain procedure and they will not pay beyond that. That is where YOU are responsible for the rest. The contract that these facilities have with the insurance says, I will bill this much (the doc/hospital/etc.) and I will pay this much (the insurance). In the case of private insurance YOU will be responsible to pay whatever your health insurance didn???t. In the case of Medicare/Medicaid they will ONLY pay the amount that is agreed upon and the doctor/hospital can???t charge the patient the remaining balance.

What Obama wants to do is to make it where you can AFFORD to (1) pay for that health insurance because I can???t afford to pay for health insurance for myself because it???s $500 a month for ME not for me and my kids but for ME alone!; and (2) make it to where you can pay what ever your health insurance doesn???t. This would be for everyone.

Comment: Lobbyist-yes, McCain is the ???founding father of campaign finance reform??? but exactly what does that have to do with lobbyist dictating policy? Nothing. I won???t proclaim to know what the heck is wrong with the campaign financing other than most people don???t??? check that box and with the price at $86 million that would only get you so far with advertising and travel. AARP is one of the largest lobbyist out there. What do they lobby for? Health care for the elderly, prescription medication, etc. Don???t get me wrong there are some ???good??? lobbyist out there but they are only working for ONE group of people and there are some ???bad??? lobbyist out there and they too only work for one group of people. Oil companies have lobbyists too. What Obama is saying is that they should not be allowed to dictate public policy because they aren???t for the public, they are for their particular company. Their influence over what goes on here is astounding. Look at what went on with Enron and all the other companies. They blame their ???book keepers??? for the mismanagement of funds so Congress passed the Sarbanes-Oxley law that dictates HOW books are kept and what information is to be made public, etc. That is for the PUBLIC and not for the private companies.

Comment: free ice cream roam the lands. This optimism is far more dangerous than any blunt object. We live in a terrible world with terrible people who hate unconditionally and with no manor or forethought. When we imposed sanctions on Iraq after the first gulf war, we set up a food for oil program. The plan was to punish Saddam but to support his people. What happened? Saddam took the money from the program, starved his people and pointed the blame for their suffering in our direction. The point? Our diplomatic stance was actually unimportant. The propaganda of starving his people and blaming us would have been used even without U.S. intervention. Asking a crazy person or a rabid dog what he wants will NOT lead to a better solution. Cultural understanding and a history lesson will.

        • Posted By: Iamnotamused @ 06/26/2008 8:54:16 AM

Comment: I understand that we must clean up our mess in Iraq, however, I also understand that we can't keep carrying the Iraqis on our backs either. As it stands right now they aren't even TRYING to do for themselves because they have us to do it for them. If we pull out a significant number of troops and allow them to use their own then it will be a start. I know all about Vietnam and our sudden, complete withdraw from that country. My father served there and I did significant research on the subject. As for Saddam starving his people, the fact that every other country we have imposed sanctions on or traded one thing for another has always had the same result. The dictator in charge starves his people and makes it look like we did it because they keep everything for themselves and their people don't know about the "agreement" because they've got a stranglehold on what their people know.

As for me wanting my right to choose, I have never had and won't ever have an abortion. I have 3 children. I just don't think that anyone should be telling me whether I can have one or not. But your analogy of "flushing my gene pool down the toilet" was sad at best. I said it before and I said it again...prolifers are great! But I don't see any of them offering to take care of the mother while she's pregnant or adopt the child after she has it. Everyone has a reason why they want an abortion and those standing outside of the clinics or on the side of the road with those signs don't bother to try and find out they just scream in your face and show you all those pictures. The foster care system in this country is broken as well and children fall threw the cracks and are lost. Case workers have these huge unmanageable case loads and they burn out quickly. How do I know? Well let's just say that I've seen it first hand (this is another one of my life experiences and I've got plenty of them).

I don't see the world through rose colored glasses as you alluded to. I see the world full of freaking idiots who would rather kill one another then live here together and breathe the same air. Why? That's my everlasting question. WHY? What did I do to them to make them want me dead? What did my family do to THEM to make them want to wipe us off the face of the earth? I don't even KNOW them, yet they want to come into my country/home and kill me simply because I was born in this country and I hold different religious beliefs than they do? How asinine is that? So yeah, I would like for someone to find out why these people want us dead.

???Conservatives Without Conscience". In it he methodically cites a number of scientific studies that have researched the mind of a "conservative". Among the scariest qualities are: "Authoritarian", "situationally rational" (I.E. someone who twists reality to fit their views), "contradictory" (I. E. someone who is pro-life and pro capital punishment, pro freedom and pro Guantanimo, etc.). These people are power orienteddescribes these post-Goldwater conservatives (Newt Gingrich et.al.) as a new idieology: "Authoritarians". What's most frieghtening when you look at thier methods is that these people are closer to facist / nazi mentality than anything we have seen in America to date.

John McCain can't make up his mind where he sits on this fence. He claims to be a "Mavrick," but the only thing mavrick about John McCain is his inconsistency. Despite McCain's honors as a war verteran, the fact is that he graduated as a flunky (894 of 899) from the Naval Academy. His greatest pre-politics achievement seems to have been as a light weight boxer in his academy days. And while we can honor McCain's perseverance as a war hero, we should not forget he was shot down twice in career after only his 23 missions over Viet Nam. Experienced fighter pilots in that war flew many hundreds hundreds of missions. Some pilots often flew 3 and 4 sorties a day. By that count, McCain lasted all of a week in Viet Nam. Other than touting his war record - who is John McCain? Does he have the "smarts" and intelligence, and mental capacity to lead as president, or is he likely to be another "Bush" - puppet of the Authoritarian right?

Comment: let's see....so you think a drug using, male prostitute would have a clean past??? You know better. Why do I find his story credible? I'm not certain that I do. I tend to, however. The indisputable facts are this. The openly gay choir director, Donald Young, and two other gay Trinity members were EXECUTED, in their homes. Whitehouse.com, the providers of the now infamous lie-detector, have been caught, cheating on the test, and using a fraudulent Ph.D as their analyst. Kinda strange they canceled their press conference, addressing these facts.

The fact Sinclair was arrested, with a fraudulent warrant, for charges in Delaware, adds fuel to the story. Joe Biden's son is A.G. This IS NOT GOING AWAY.

The Hussein camp is expending lots of effort and time, to discredit a supposedly ridiculous claim. And don't forget this HUGE fact. During the Rezko trial, it was revealed that Homosexual drug/sex parties were involved, in the Illinois political scene. The judge did not allow names to be revealed. Prosecutor Fitzgerald knows though. And good buddy Tony, went directly to jail, for his own safety. He is going to squeal like a pig, for the witness protection program. This is all part of one big story. And before it's all over, even PMSNBC will have to report it.

These are just a few of the reasons, I will not let go of it. It's got some credibility.

Today's Gallup: "By 19- and 16-point margins, respectively, Americans are more likely to see Barack Obama rather than John McCain as better able to handle energy prices and the economy, two of the most important presidential election issues in the public's eyes at this time. Six other issues were tested in the poll, with the two candidates positioned roughly evenly on Iraq, moral values, and illegal immigration, while Obama has an edge on healthcare and taxes. McCain's only advantage is on terrorism."

Don't forget the Rasmussen Polls: "The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Tuesday shows Barack Obama attracting 46% of the vote while John McCain earns 40%. The Rasmussen Reports Balance of Power Calculator shows Obama leading in states with 200 Electoral College votes while McCain leads in states with 174 votes. When leaners are included, it's Obama 284, McCain 240. "
