.............................................John McCain at age 71 has plenty of experience, hanging with those in Washington that have boosted his political influence. The NY Times today reported the unfortunate story about Republican House of Representative Candidate from N.Y. who sadly passed away in his sleep this week at age 67 in his sleep from natural causes, a tragedy for his family.
Mr. McCain is just too old to assume the office of President of the United States at his age and he is setting up the American people for disappointment where if elected he will be instantly a Lame Duck where he will find it extremely difficult to be elected to a second term be inadequate in office for reasons of ill health or just plain senility. Americans realize that McCain is just too much of a risk to take, this is a serious issue that will be taken into consideration.

You're kidding right? Or is this another audition to be Obama's press secretary?

  • Posted By: beaupritchard @ 06/23/2008 5:45:40 PM

At twenty plus years in the senate McCain is 1/535 of the reason things are the way they are ... McCain isn't the answer ... he's part of the problem.

Thanks, Newsweek, for this fresh point-of-view on Obama's experience.

  • Posted By: Carl Y. @ 06/23/2008 3:20:38 PM

State Legislator isn't really experience for much of anything. We don't have a lot of people leap from statehouse to the Presidency. And two years in the Senate ( most of which were spent campaigning for the Presidency ) don't say much either. So you need to listen to what the candidate is saying. There's enough there already to use to make a judgement.

    • Posted By: WhenStarsTurnBlue @ 06/23/2008 5:36:04 PM

Obama's been in the US Senate since 2004, so it's more like 3.5 years now, since he office office in Jan 2005. But I guess since he's been campaigning since 2007, it does seem more like 2 years in the Senate.

    • Posted By: marksgershenson @ 06/23/2008 3:36:52 PM

Well I guess Bush's experience for govenor didn't help him either...JFK had his family name, he only spent one more year in the Senate than Obama...I think it comes down to who do you trust, who is the lesser of two evils, and do you want to continue another four years of the same policies that have been in place over the last eight years....or a new person who has some great leadership skills and vision.

Regardless of who wins, there is going to be a generation worth, actually a laundry list of problems that will need to be solved, sooner hopefully than later. My generation Y daughter is going to catch the brunt of the mess. I never thought in eight years that we would be where we are today....Mark

Reading the whole article. What a concept.
They describe his experience - and you ignore the words.

      Reading. What a concept.

I found this article rather deceitful and definitely not informative. The truth is, Obama's resume can be written in a single 8.5"x11" sheet, and using 14pt fonts at that! The most important line item in his resume is his election to the Senate in an election year in which it was all but impossible for the Democratic candidate in the IL ballot to lose.

    • Posted By: Ezana @ 06/23/2008 5:32:53 PM

      8.5 by 11 feet?

go to this site and query bills by sponsor; Obama (http://thomas.loc.gov/)
      http://obama.senate.gov/committees/
Plus the man has had the sink, the refridgerator and the oven thrown at him by both the Clinton machine and the GOP. Don't believe everything you read in an anonymous email. He has the fewest skeletons he's by far the most crap for. He's still standing. When was the last time someone asked about McCain's first wife? Or bills he sponsored that he voted against! Liberal media my ass...

  • Posted By: jordonmcconnell @ 06/23/2008 4:53:25 PM

This is fatuous Obama cheerleading - even by Newsweek standards. C'mon guys! You've really gone a bridge too far here suggesting that Obama's 8 years as a state senator are comparable to McCain's 20 plus years in the senate - the last 10 as a significant national political figure. Leaving aside the fact that you gloss over McCain's bona fides as a military officer and 8 years in the House your argument is laughable on its face. You criticize senators for being tangentially aware of a broad array of issues, adhering to rigorous schedules on 3X5s and depending on a large support staff. While I share your obvious disregard for the Senate (and I am no huge McCain fan either), this sounds alot closer to the Presidency than voting "present" in the Illinois state senate in between poker games. OMG, I'm sure I'll still be laughing at this tomorrow. Thanks guys!

    • Posted By: WhenStarsTurnBlue @ 06/23/2008 5:26:28 PM

Right, I don't care if they do an article to talk about Obama's early Ill career. That would make interesting reading, if it were accurate and well researched, I'd enjoy learning more. It's just when they leave out half of McCain's experience and try to tone down Hillary's, the bias is just so clear it's hard to read and even harder to believe. It sounds more like a sales pitch than news.

    • Posted By: Ezana @ 06/23/2008 5:12:16 PM

20 years in the senate and the man couldn't figure out that the economy is screwed and the war was a mistake. If he's such a straight shooter why didn't he call the Bush people (you know the same ones working for him now) on their blatant race baiting in 2000 (illegitimate black child). If the man isn't ready to defend his own child, what hope is there for the country with him at the helm. He's no maverick he takes it however his party gives it to him!

    • Posted By: marksgershenson @ 06/23/2008 5:10:58 PM

I have done a lot of reading, and I did not know anything about his legislative experience in Illinois...I guess for some of us, it opens another chapter of learning....Mark

Comment: Idiots! I don't think you should talk about yourself like that! You are supporting/defedning a man who has no record and no real accomplishment. PLENTY of anti American associates including his wife---Sat up there in a separatist church for 20 years who outright lied and flip flopped on that issue and who will outright lie, flip flop and stretch the truth whenever it is politically convenient yet you have the audacity to refer to someone else as an idiot!

Perhaps you should look in the mirror!

I agree. It is a liberalist agenda to pull the wool over the American people. The media has bought into the hoopla and so called journalists like this. Someone should strip this guys credentials. Obama will go down in November. By then the truth will be exposed.

Alvy, Alvy, Alvy---I think you get a personal kick out of picking with me! Also, I think you know that I make a lot of valid points that you can't counter so instead you start calling me names.

On a serious note, I don't care how many names you call me---I will ALWAYS respect your decision to support Obama and critcize Clinton or McCain. That is your right. If I don't agree, I will debate with you but in all cases I respect your decision and position. I just wish you could give me the same respect.

You really need to learn how to agree to disagree WITHOUT going into insults OR is that just your way of letting me know you got a thang for me =-)

I guess I am still stick in the 90's because I had a HUGE crush on him when he and Oneal played together. Actually I was so crazy about him that I named my car "lil Penny" again, back when he was with the Florida Magics.. I know his career ended on a bad note but I still like him.

So unless Alvy is really Anfernee Deon Hardaway born 7/18/71 in Memphis TN---- you ain't gotta worry about me! I guess I gave you too much info but the point is--I dont want Alvy! Girl, stop being so sensitve!

Yes Lise, I do get a huge kick out of annoying you - but only when you bring race into it.
I don't really care how nuts you are other than that.
If you want to agree to disagree old lady, keep racial bias out of it.

if you want to trash some one's middle name and use it as a racist bludgeon, I'll be happy to continue trashing you. No, no really. It's my pleasure.

            • Posted By: Debunked @ 06/23/2008 3:37:36 PM

You call your insults trashing someone, I call them a temper tamtrum. When you know your arguement is weak, you go to insults because you can't argue the issue!

I find your "trashing" to be funny UNTIL you had called me a bigot that time. But I am so over that and now I am back to laughing at your temper tamtrums and picking right back at you

                Y'know. Crazy, bigot.

And c'mon. I don't have tantrums. Bad jokes - but not tantrums.

How about, your mother was so dumb she fails taste tests.
That would account for your bigotry and hate of self. Your a nasty person. I bet when you go swimming, they sandbag the beach for oil spills.

Did you actually write black people are bad AND say they vote by skin color? Kinda says you vote by skin color doesn't it? Not too smart of you old wise one. Kinda stupid actually.

    Happy trailering!

Actually I'm Black. If Obama and his wife can talk cr'ap about America, then why can't I say the same about my own people. Get off the bandwagon Obama lover! He's filth and it is true that blacks are voting for history and not for the right reasons.

    • Posted By: wgoin @ 06/23/2008 2:58:05 PM

Ot bdhotwheel: What a disgusting and unintelligent post. My guess is that you are not black and you clearly aren't educated. Obama is not filth. He is a highly educated, highly regarded individual who is not bowing down to Republicans on the issues that count.

Oh - just for your info - I'm a white 40 + woman. I don't vote based on color or party - just on who is best qualified for the job. And, Barack Obama is infinitely more qualified to run this country than John McCain who has backpeddled on every vote he has made in the past.

I have a question. When someone says a man is 'on the low', what does that mean? Mafia? Thanks.

    • Posted By: The "O" Team @ 06/23/2008 4:21:05 PM

It means that the person is ... A closet homo sexual ... TYPICALLY ... It really depends on the context that it was used... It also means: The engaging in activities that the participant/s wouldn't want to be disclosed or desiminated to, non-member parties... (To HIDE)... To be a closet homo (no offense)... when a wife is cheating on her husband but doesn't want to be noticed by any outsiders... When that same man is slipping from jeweler to jeweler in order to get his wife (hopefully not the forementioned:) a new ring...

When I was in College, there would usually be about 30 - 40 guys (myself being one) who would always bump into one another... We would usually be in the midst of leaving our significant fornications of choice or in route to... (i.e. Man, I saw Danny over in Hoyt Hall last night. He was 'on the low' with Monique so, he really couldn't speak.)

Have you ever had bought a good bottle of red from a reputable store - then go home very excited to open it up; let it breathe while creating an excellent accompaniment to go with it? Then the bottle was bad?

That had nothing to do with "low".

It appears more and more that 5/8 of the globe is covered by water and the other 3/8 by infantile and sycophantic media shills who will brave all ridicule in the interests of the Greater Obama

Why would you steal griffin1's user name and add 15 to it?
      How sick are you?

      And your language sound familiar.

Now you sound like Popeye. Strong to the dinish while I eats me spinach.

And you sound like an idiot who claims to be smart and is voting based solely on the issues alone. You have the audacity and umitigated gall to say that 90% of blacks are only voting for Obama simply because of the historic nature. Well have you interviewed the 90% of blacks? I don't think you have and you're just spouting some statistic that you read somewhere and statistics are only as good as the person using them because anyone can use them to fit their needs. Just like people "researching" Obama can only come up with crap and not facts.

If you don't know how to do research then leave it up to someone who does. When you research an issue you look at it from ALL possible angles and THEN form your opinion. You don't go to google, click on the first thing that comes up and go from there. Nor do you go to google and type in some cr'ap and then take it for fact especially when it's from a fringe site and not from a more reputable one.

He flip flopped about public financing and although it paints a picture of him, I understand because once he is officially named the nominee, several groups are going to come after him left and right! Unfortuantely, this election is not going to be about the issues, it is going to be about the person, their past and character.

Holy Roller, you are a good researcher---------do you have any info about this issue?.

The only people that are able to get the word out on the true OBAMA is us. I have talked to friends that once supported OBAMA and let them know the bad about him and they are now voting for McCain. We need to protect our country, not expose it to liberal filth and terrorists. Something that OBAMA will surely enforce!

      Same word conflict Poly.

The only "bad" you have put out about Obama is lies. He will be a great President for this country and will help us get back to a leadership role in the world political arena.

The first candidate to "flip-flop" about public financing was John McCain when he took out a federal loan for his primary run against the other Republicans. He then tried to pay it back and not consider it a loan - illegal. Next, he has flip-flopped on tax cuts for the rich ( a matter of public record), of offshore drilling (again a matter of public record) as well as at least 20 other major bills in the senate. And, if Joe Lieberman wasn't there to whisper the correct answers in his ear, he wouldn't know who is fighting who in Iraq.

Obama is clearly the best choice for President of the U.S. and I can't want until he is sworn in in January, 2009.

As for your other posts, only black people that YOU know are voting for him based on his race. I could care less what his color is. I'm black too but I'm voting for him because of his stance on the issues that matter to me, period. I guess you could call me one of those educated (MBA), latte sipping people (but I don't do Star Bucks, too expensive so I make my own in my espresso machine at home) who are voting for him.

    CLAP CLAP...(Sacastically).

I have called this person out so many times on bs, I cant even count anymore, and the outright bigotry, same thing....this person goes from post to post saying the same thing over and over again....no sources will ever be cited, no responses that make sense when you ask questions....thats why I said on another blog, my dander goes up when this type of posting happens.... Mark

    • Posted By: mugsiejcu @ 06/23/2008 1:55:38 PM

First of all, I don't understand your point on about 90% of these... but one especially bothers me. Your interest in miscegenation being a felony is really disturbing. Are you really so much of a racist that you believe the intermingling of the races should still be a felony, and that somehow Obama is responsible for this "felony"? You know, now that I think about it... yeah, he must be! I know before I was born I told God which parents I wanted to be born to and told him to make sure that both of my parents were white. You've got some issues, buddy.

    • Posted By: summer1216 @ 06/23/2008 1:54:14 PM

Where did you get all this stuff? You don`t post a source or any reference. And you are talking about more than a straight-up voting record here. You are interposing commentary on the line in several places. Where is your source for the assumed results of the legislation?

    • Posted By: Iamnotamused @ 06/23/2008 1:01:56 PM

And let me ask you since you posted all this stuff: what business is it of yours (or mine for that matter) what someone's sexual orientation is as long as they aren't bothering you? I mean does that make them do any less of a job when they are hired? What?

I would go on down your list but it's too long but I noticed that a LOT of the things you have on it deal with someone's sexual orientation though and I had to address it.

By the way, I'm straight so don't go there.

The problems in Washington always seem to be on the mind of the "outsiders"- be they Bush coming from Texas, Clinton from Arkansas, or the new Congressmen and Senators; all coming to bring change in the way Washington does business. The problem is none of them have the experience to know what actually works well in Washington to utilize to change what doesn't work well.
I'm a democrat and believe we need a democrat in the White House, but I can't deny that McCain's experience in making Washington work doesn't give him a leg up.
I think he is wrong on our economy, on energy, and on taxes, but I think his experience in working effectively and independently with people on both sides of the isle shows real expertise that is needed that Obama doesn't possess.
We don't have to deny the reality of McCain skills to win the White House. We can admit we can learn a lot from him. Her is an honorable man, his stand on Veterans benefits isn't one I agree with but I do see the merit in his position that those who continually put themselves in harms way to protect and stay in the military should have even greater benefits, and with the difficulty we have in retention because so few people are willing to put themselves in harms way - we should honor those who do.
If we are going to actually change our political system we have to get away from the polarization and strong tendency to demonize those we face in contested elections.
I didn't like the way Hillary Clinton was treated by my fellow democrats who were so willing to demonize her and anything Clinton and I wouldn't vote for anyone who would say they want to bring change in the polarization and then they run campaigns based in polarizing our politics just so they can win.

There is more at stake than just winning, and that is what people in political parties, the media, and in our society seem to have forgotten. There is something called the common good that should come first.

    • Posted By: Iamnotamused @ 06/23/2008 2:33:39 PM

According to the article, Obama DID cross the aisle and work on legislation in Ill with Republicans. I understand what you're saying though but you have to have people that are actually willing to set aside their party affiliations and work together for the common good. While McCain will always be older (sound familiar from the article) and have been in the senate longer, it doesn't necessarily mean that he's the man for the job either.

There are several things about him that scare me though just like I'm sure that there are several things about Obama that scare you. Both of us are right and both of us are wrong. Agreeing to disagree.

When (If) Obama wins we will see what he can do. He will have to bring together the entire congress and that's no small feat but it will be up to THEM to decide whether or not they are going to put aside their petty crap and work to get this country back to where it once was. He can't do it by himself though and everything he does as POTUS is going to be determined by Congress (that checks and balance thing).

      • Posted By: Alvy @ 06/23/2008 3:16:47 PM

Doesnt it annoy you that these people make hearsay fact?
Kinda grates on you that individual opinion is touted as truth. And look, another Hills being demonized post. Have you noticed that when Obama was having refrigerators thrown at him; in between the "He needs to explain that to me - to us - and apologize" and the "His awful, flagpin, wife, church, flippin' off, can't talk, is to smooth when he talks, Rezko lifer" it's never being demonized. Imagine if Michelle was an ex-addict, thief and adulterer like Cindy. Obama would not have a chance.
