The field of cheating belongs to democrats and republicana alike Medge...Don't kid yourself otherwise. It is a 2 way street in Washington. Obama isn't raising funds with wits alone. I applaud the guy for what he has done. He is like a David Keresh or JOnes in having a following similar to that of a messiah. The sheep are falling for him literally as many young girls faint at his rallies. He does have a following, but no substance to back up his theory on "change we can believe in" He is a great speaker and intelligent man and has and will continue to use the race card to his advantage. Very smart politician. To say Republicans alone are "cheating" is such a great copout on your part and anyone that believes your message Medge. Again, it is a 2 way street in the greater D.C. area. Welcome to Washington D.C.

"Barack Obama and John McCain seem to be in so many ways polar opposites. One is liberal, the other is conservative. One is black, and one is white. One is young, and one is old. One is cool and detached and cerebral, the other is mischievous and a bit of a hothead. One emphasizes negotiation with enemies, the other believes in the all-or-nothing use of force."

McCain is a moderate, and he's not "all-or-nothing" on use of force. Author sounds biased.

If by business experience you mean running an enterprise like Enron, where the experience lies in speculating how to raise capital by corrupt business deals, and depleting pension funds in benefit of the greed of the "business man," then I am glad neither candidate has any business experience. Even though, in the field of business corruption, Mr. McCain has many partners in lobbying and special interests that will be more than glad to lend him a hand of their expertise. On Straight honest business, however, Mr. McCain, is a total failure, he can't even manage the millions of dollars in donations from his lobbyists and special interest buddies.
Obama on the other hand, has been able to mount a very impressive organization and has collected millions of dollars in campaign donations without the help of lobbyists or special interests, and has demonstrated that he is able to outsmart and outmanage any person with so called "business experience."
If by lack of honest business experience you mean (Mr. Thomas) your "charmingly disarming" Mr. McCain, then you are right. As for Mr. Obama, you are dead wrong, being a constitutional lawyer, he really does not need to be an expert in business, but he can outsmart the best of them,if he has to, and what's mre interesting he does not have to cheat in the process. The field of cheating belongs to the Republicans.

I think the "business experience" thing has been very oversold, not just this year but in previous campaigns going back as far as I can remember. George W. Bush did have business experience and was the worst deficit spender we've had in peacetime. He also did a lot better with buying part of a fixed asset (the Rangers) and having taxpayers add value through a new stadium, than he did with learning first-hand about "peak oil" in west Texas.

The big problem with people overweighted in business experience is that businesses are NOT democracies, and people who were CEOs are used to giving orders and our government, by design, simply does not work that way. If you try to do it that way anyway like Bush often has, you burn your bridges and don't have much to show, especially on issues requiring give and take and compromise.

In extreme cases, it's even better to have no business experience than to have the wrong kind.

One thing I think Bush has shown that would be nice is "international experience," especially any that occurred BEFORE the person had VIP status on international trips.

The president needs to be a well educated, intelligent person with an enquiring mind, energetic with a broad based outlook on the past and the future well grounded in history, none of which we have had for the past eight years. He can hire experts in all of the fields necessary to assemble an effective government, including persons with extensive business experience to advise him on those matters. It is more important that he knows how to seek and find the proper persons to advise him more than he needs to be an expert in any of those fields.

    Two points that you missed.
    1. You state that neither feel very comfortable discussing economics, and yet you fail to mention the economics tour Obama recently embarked on, in which he layed out both short term and long term economic goals.
    2. While neither has run a business, both are in the midst of running a campaign where they have limited resources. By all accounts Obama's campaign has been run extremely smoothly. Which indicates that at some level he's capable of making smart choices with the money he has available.

Most of the business experience we get in the presidency is monkey business. How about starting a war to prevent a war. Preemptive war he called it. Started it to stop Saddam from using his weapons of mass destruction. Big lie. Monkey business, that's what it was. Mtgmother, below, says that he was a bad businessman. Drove the businesses into bankruptcy. Well, that explains the deficit for sure. He's shooting for bankruptcy for the U.S., too. No thanks, no more businessmen in the white house for a while. We need time to recover from this one.

As to Bush's experience as a Businessman prior to his eletion: he drove all companies he ran into Bankruptsy. It is not the expiernece that counts, it is the knowledge and experience to do it properly. Both McCain and Obama are lacking in this are.
No disrepect meant to the post by akhajawall, I have seen this in a number of locations; but honestly, it doesnt make any sense to me.

Dear American Voters, reporters, media. professionals, political parties, and presidential Nominees,

Please plead and request the media, pundits, and politician's to "Compare And Contrast" " Presidential Temperament" of our Presidential presumptive nominees? as we do for the appointments for the Supreme Court Justices of Our Greatgrand Nation.

    Yours truly,

    COL. [retd] A.M.Khajawall
    Disabled American Veteran
    Forensic psychiatrist, Las Vegas

PS: Please talk about the " Presidential Temperament, Composer, Consistency And Caliber " is the key for our presumptive presidential Nominees. We do talk about the "Judicial Temperament" of our Supreme Court Justices nominees and so far we have failed to talk about the " Presidential Temperament " of our presumptive presidential nominees. The " Presidential Temperament " is the ultimate and in my opinion only requirement of our president as that effects every living soul here and around the world.

    Thanks once again.

One of the big arguments for voting for Bush was, "he's a bidnessman. Oughtta be a really good president with all that business experience". Since then, I've been sort of pulling for someone with some other background to get the office. Though, I will say, it did make him very partial to big business interests, if that's what you want. Insurance companies, drug companies, oil companies and the credit industry. All have had a field day. Big profits, small wages, discontinued retirement plans, quit paying taxes, regulations withdrawn from the table, pollution flourished.
Hey, let's get us another bidnessman! They ought to really be a good president, them bidnessmen.
