The British are doing their best to destabalize Zimbabwe in order to put a stooge in office so they can once again loot the natural resources of that country.
When Mugabee returned the white owned farms that had been stolen from the people of Zimbabwe, to the people of Zimbabwe for the benefit of Zimbabwe's that enraged the Brutish imperialists who have looted and oppressed Africa for more than a century. Zimbabwe is no longer Rhodesia.

The apparent government death squads are likely British agents de-stabalizing the nation in order to return it to British rule. Save Zimbabwee or your nation will probably be the next to fall.

The British are doing absolutely nothing. There are no natural resources in Zimbabwe that they want, unless you count cheap fruit and veg... which they can just as easily import from somewhere else.

The politicians out here in the UK simply do not give a sh*t, and not wishing to put too fine a point on it, but the general consensus is that they're black, we're white, and unlike Kosovo where we were going to the rescue of another 'white' nation... if the UK were to go into Zimbabwe they would be seen as doing an Imperialist revival. You have NO idea how rampant political correctness is out here. They will turn their backs on their fellow humans rather than take the risk of being seen as 'racist imperials'.

And besides, with no significant resources (read: oil) the British - like the US - see no reason to step in and risk the 'Imperialist racist' tag... the politicians out here use that as just one more justification for leaving Zimbabwe and South Africa to sort themselves out. (if Zimbabwe had oil... they might consider it)

What about all the whites that gave up their property here in the united states to the blacks that are just as good as the whites! NOT!! eg, Look at Detroit and all the other big cities that look like war zones! The blacks reaally have shown me that they can do a much better job at governing when given the chance, NOT!!

YOU MUST BE ONE OF MUGABE'S FRIENDS THAT GOT A FREE FARM

As well as free dandelions and tioletpaper.

For years Mugabe's supporters have argued that he be president for life. The opposition argues that he should leave power immediately. I've argued that he could make everyone happy if he'd just drop dead.

Now he says only God can remove him from office. Maybe it will take my solution, God willing.

Africa always seems like an incredible waste of money b/c no matter how much people send over or spend on specific funding; nothing is ever achieved and the people continue to suffer under the many dictatorships/regimes that are in power.

We've already wasted enough money in Iraq, let the EU handle this one.

If Mugabe wants to die in office, someone should step up and help him out.

Let themselve do a complete thorough, ultimate and final ethnic-racial cleansing and finish off all these centuries long problem this continent has experienced from the begining of time.
But please do ot let these creature migrate to other countries, in other continents.
Money, efforts, resources spent by thevarious UN and international organizations on these folks, are a waste and coud be well spent on other needy people who can appreciate it.

Mr. Mugabe SHOULD die in office...... and VERY SOON! Maybe someone can help him along with that.

The Brutish Empire needs to butt out of Zimbabwee's internal affairs.
Mugabee led the war of independence against the Brutish, and won. Now he's facing tremendous economic pressure, and dirty tricks to subvert his nations independence.

Newsflash idiot: It's been 20 years since Mugabe's "victory". I'm sure the British would have sorted him out long before now if that was their intention.

By the way, Mugabe was not the only African leader to oust the British, so why does he think he is special to merit the extra attention. Perhaps it is because he is a homicidal egomaniac who cannot fathom letting go of power in Zim to which he seems to feel is owed to him. Grow up, Zim is more than one man and his goons. It was there before him and will be there long after this vulture is gone.

It is on South Africa and other members of SADC to go in and I have heard from their own mouths that they do not feel it is necessary and if the election was held a second time they would support who ever won, believing the results would be fair. I don't feel that the US needs to step in, especially physically. Leaders in Africa need to learn to deal with these situations so they can rely on each other and their people. Time to do the right thing for all of Africa.

An analogy if I may. Your house is burning with you and your children inside. You're trying to get out but your spouse who's standing outside does nothing to help. Neither do your next-door neighbours. Should I who lives 3 blocks away just let your family burn because after all, the folks closest to you and know you best are not helping?

THAT APPROACH WORKED REALLY WELL IN RWANDA, DIDN'T IT? OVER 800,000 BUTCHERED IN A FEW MONTHS.

This is not a black and white thing. I am a so-called white and have many black friends (even though I hate using such arbitrary and racist categories)in and outside Zimbabwe. Many of them are very capable to rule Zimbabwe but do not get a chance because of this monster created by both East and West. The East traine d Mugabe in communist ideology and means of oppression and manipulation. The West taught Mugabe in the early 1980s that as long as Western interests are not affected Africans are free to murder one another as he consequently did in the grossly underestimated Matabele land genocide. No wonder Mugabe listens to no body, he is our own creation, indeed the Frankenstein analogy is appealing.

Larouchepac - what Kool aid are you drinking? That is ABSURD!
George Washington, who had more substance and character in his pinky finger than would 1000 Robert Mugabes, led the United States in its revolution against your hated ???British Empire???. He flatly rejected the notion of being named king or monarch, instead opting to serve two terms as our first president. What did he do after his two terms (fair elections I might add) He returned to Mount Vernon and lived out his remaining days.

Mugabe is a miserable human who inherited a jewel and turned it into a wasteland.

EVERYONE THAT THINKS WE WENT INTO IRAQ TO GET CHEAP OIL MUST BE LIVING ON ANOTHER PLANET. IF WE ADDED UP THE COST AND DIVIDED BY THE AMOUNT OF OIL WE GOT THERE (THAT WE STILL PAID FULL PRICE FOR), IT PROBABLY HAS COST US TENS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS PER BARREL. WE WENT AFTER SADDAM HUSSEIM BECAUSE HE WAS A BRUTAL DICTATOR AND FEARED (RIGHT OR WRONG) THAT HE WAS DEVELOPING WMD'S. EVEN HE ADMITTED HE MISLED THE WORLD ABOUT THEM. DON'T BE HYPOCRITES AND KEEP BEATING UP ON NOBLE AMERICAN EFFORTS AND THEN EXPECT US TO TRY AGAIN.

    • Posted By: harris2208 @ 06/26/2008 10:54:21 AM

Thank you, It's good to know that there ARE other people who aren't just ready to bash Bush and all of America.

This is Africa's problem. Why should I send my son to be killed by thugs as part of the US or UN?
Africans started this by wanting independence from Ian Smith's government, so Africans finish it. I don't want any tax dollars/euros or dead sons and daughters wasted on this fruitcake Mugabe. Zimbabwans had it all before; education, health care, JOBS, FOOD (enough to feed the rest of Africa). Now go and find some dandelions by the side of the road to eat...I'm tired of bailing Africa out of its problems. I had lived in Africa for 4 years and am glad to be back to civilization.

  • Posted By: harris2208 @ 06/26/2008 10:23:16 AM

I think it's too bad someone can't get close enough to let him die in office like he wants. I am saddened by the lack of inaction from other countries, but you also must take into consideration what the people of America would say if Bush got involved. He is already catching hell for still being in Iraq and trying to make change there, people would say it's none of our business and that we should stay out of it.

I think we can all agree that this is a deplorable situation, with roots in both the European colonial administration AND in the pre-existing tribal culture and mentality. The short way of putting that, I guess, is that human beings are involved, which means that the problem has a long and complex backstory and no easy remedy.

I'd like to see international intervention to resolve the issue, but I'm not sure what sort is appropriate or possible. Pressure from the surrounding nations is a good place to start, and they seem to have that ball rolling, but without South Africa in the game, the odds of bringing about meaningful change seem pretty long.

    Crap.

Thank goodnewss this is not Rhodesia anymore - things have certainly gotten better for the county and its people since that regiime was replaced by the current one hasn't it?

    • Posted By: pbpace @ 06/26/2008 9:45:15 AM

Yes I agree! Look at what a paradise Mugabe has wrought after taking over from his Colonial masters.

  • Posted By: fischer498@aol.com @ 06/26/2008 9:30:49 AM

    Give him what he wants........

  • Posted By: fischer498@aol.com @ 06/26/2008 9:27:19 AM

Why doesn't someone give him what he wants?

  • Posted By: Shaylaspop @ 06/26/2008 9:01:05 AM

to "northtothefuture: You finally figured that out? The same stories are coming out of Africa then those I watched as a kid back in the 60's, and I don't envision any changes. As you said, if no resources are involved, or someone's trying to push you off your "King of the Hill" perch, the US won't do anything.

    • Posted By: northtothefuture @ 06/26/2008 9:18:16 AM

I guess no matter how many times this happens, I am still left mortified beyond belief. The consistent cruelty and insensitivity in this world has not changed the fact that I feel intense shame every time we turn a blind eye. Some people want better...and hope for it, even though the future is grim.

What a idiotic old man this is! Old men should die gracefully and with dignity and honor this man will have neither. What will you gain old man? Having innocent people killed? Do you think people will admire you? He that lives by the sword does die by the sword. You cannot escape the punishment that comes to tyrants it always has a way of working itself out. Beg God for forgiveness or experience his wrath. Because your day is coming as it does for all men like you.

  • Posted By: tejetb @ 06/26/2008 8:32:12 AM

Thank goodness this is not the old Rhodesia - and that terrible government was replaced by this democratic one. What a mess this place would be if Mugabe and his followers had not brought majority rule to this country. What did anyone expect? When Mugabe turned loose his thugs on white farmers and approved murder several years ago to "distribute" the land to his followers - does this today come as a surprise? This country used to be a very fertile country with excellent health care, etc - now it it s tinpot dictatorship.
