    I am a normal middle class citizen of the United States and a former democrat.

    I do not trust Obama on any issue. He seems to keep piggy backing and drawing from McCains efforts. Everytime McCain makes a statement Obama did it first. Isn't anyone catching this pattern? Doesn't any one listen as he stutters to find words to appease with out giving any kind of actual details. My goodness he couldn't even recall the name of the soldier whose bracelet he was given with out referring to his notes. He reads from notes not from his heart. He is only a puppet of the party.

    Obama is all about HIM HIM HIM. He makes it out like he single handedly controlled and influenced the bailout bill results ( over the phone non the less) Mc Cain is all about AMAERICA FIRST. He does claim he was involved, which he washe was there, but he admits it was a group effort ( democrats and republicans working together) giving credit where credit is due. Not just to himself.

    I believe Mcain CAN and WILL UNITE the parties to take care of the American people.

    Yes I believe the bail out is a necessity if we as the United States of America are to survive. Although we the American people did not cause the crises, as we have not caused the world disasters or the problems with the world countries we have bailed out. Why are we so quick to rush to the aid of others yet hesitate to take care of our own. I do not understand. As a United Nation we can overcome, divided we will fail.

    On the national security issue. I am extremely concerned. We need McCains experience, knowledge and his relationships with key players. I believe our enemys are waiting in the shadows ready to pounce if Obama gets into office. He is weak in this area and they know it.

    We are Americans and we need McCain to keep us STRONG. I want to commend those that are supporting McCain as this shows the strength and backbone of our American heritage. The questions I would like to ask the people of the United States that support Obama are: How well do you REALLY know him, other than what you hear from his group of cronies? Don't you think the people he has been, and is today associated with is any indication of who he really is? You can't just turn your back on the people in your life as it suites your needs for example claiming to know nothing of the radical side of his associates whose efforts he supported in the past.

    PLEASE. Americans are not that naive.

    I am not denying that Obama is an intelligent educated individual. But he lacks the experience and knowledge to lead this counrty in the crucial times of this errra. Maybe in 8 years after he has watched and studied the MAVERICKS at work he may be ready.

    I would like to just once see a Newsweek poll that has polled more Republicans then Democrats. As of yet I have never seen this unbiased poll have more Reps then Dems polled. How could this be? Call 3000 randon people and everytime you have 15% more Dems polled then Reps. Unbiased? Suuuuuuure

    Why Obama won't win? He really isn't an agent of change, no matter how he tries to portray himself.

    "We need a president who sees government not as a tool to enrich well-connected friends and high-priced lobbyists, but as the defender of fairness and opportunity for every American," the candidate said in his June speech. "That's the kind of president I intend to be."

    But his actions don't match his words. Away from the bright lights and high-minded rhetoric of the campaign trail, Democratic presidential hopeful Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., has quietly worked with corporate lobbyists to help pass breaks worth $12 million.

    "It's an entire culture in Washington -- some of it legal, some of it not," the Democratic hopeful told a New York crowd in June, rallying support for his ethics reform agenda.

    But last year, at the request of a hired representative for an Australian-owned chemical corporation Nufarm, Obama introduced nine separate bills exempting the company from import fees on a range of chemical ingredients it uses in the manufacture of pesticides and herbicides. Nufarm's U.S. subsidiary is based in Illinois.
    While legal, Obama's bills on behalf of Nufarm and other companies are part of the special treatment machine Washington rolls out for special interests, say good-government watchdogs.

    "If you have a company...there's a whole factory set up to help you get these suspensions," said Steve Ellis, president of the Washington, D.C.-based watchdog group Taxpayers for Common Sense. "It's a pay-to-play system you have to rev up and work." Hire the right lobbyist, pay the right fee, and you can save millions, he explained.

    In Nufarm's case, Obama's staff met with a lawyer representing the company, Joel Junker, in person and on the phone several times, Junker told ABC News. Junker says he worked with Obama's staff to craft the nine bills and keep them moving forward.

    In a glowing financial report issued just two months after Obama introduced Nufarm's numerous tariff-lifting bills, Nufarm told its shareholders it was making more money than ever before in North America because it had increased its prices on its U.S. and Canadian customers, predominantly farmers.

    In particular, "price rises on phenoxy herbicides," a family which includes 2,4 D, "improved the profitability of those products, despite no significant increase in sales volumes."

    Economics aside, some medical researchers also harbor concerns over 2,4 D. Studies have purported to find a link between high exposure to the chemical and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, a type of cancer. Defenders of the chemical say it is safe, and note that even scientists who believe a link exists cannot explain how the chemical may cause the cancer.

    We should remember that NEWSWEAK put up a poll prior to the Obama World Concert that showed a huge double-digit lead that either completely evaporated by the time of his return,or,as suspected,never occurred at all,in the face of AP-IPSOS,RASMUSSEN,ZOGBY,QUINNIPAC, and GALLUP polls showing a near dead heat between the two. As NEWSWEAK acts as Obama sycophant anyway,why not use your poll calls to ask an overwhelming number of Democrats,instead of GOPers/Inds.,to skew your polls which the PEW Center for People and the Press observes anyway coming from the likes of NEWSWEAK?
    I am less than convinced. The LA Times,like NEWSWEAK,is another of these species of Obama partisan.     McCain falsely claimed that the war in Iraq was "the first major conflict since 9/11" -- either forgetting about the war in Afghanistan or deeming it not major enough. This is not all that surprising, since McCain's policies on Afghanistan -- the real central front in the war on terror -- have been all over the map. Indeed, McCain first attacked Obama's policy on Afghanistan, then adopted it for himself.

      Pretty good post however I think you assume some things that may not come true. However for now I'll say you are correct. Sometimes it helps to look at who is supporting someone which will in turn help you decide who your views fit in with. After reviewing your list there are clearly some there which I would never agree with or want to be associated with. Mostly the groups that are always looking for a free handout or advantage over the average working stiff. You know," I've made some stupid decisions in my life but I want the goverment to pay for my mistakes". A large % of the American public are sick of these sort of programs but they won't take the time to notice who is supporting their canidate and Why!!. Thanks for making the list.

    This story was laugable when first published it is till laughable today! I still find it amazing that Barack Obama a totally un-heard-of politician by the majority of American voters two years ago is helping people to realize we have been heading in a very wrong direction for the last 8 years.

    Obama is finished, he has no where to turn but the down. I am willing to bet any blogger a week's salary that Obama will pick either Richardson, or Clinton, because those are the two that will give him the push he needs to get ahead of McCain. Obama has played nearly 70% of Americans on what he will do and the polls have reflected that. But now since those same polls show him even with McCain, now he wants to debate, now how he wants to adjust. Obama is a smart man because he have pulled the rug over millions of people and all of you Obama supporters ( please don't think this is the way I think, I hate to call anyone this word) but yo u are stupid for supporting such a low un-experience man for president simply because you hate Bush.     Slipping and sliding, Obama's numbers continue to decline. You could predict that a Newsweak poll would roll in favor of Obama as much as they have been promoting him to their readers.

    Unbiased is not a term that would accurately describe Newsweak.

    To Denmill: Saying Obama is a closeted Muslim is like saying McSame is a closeted homosexual. There is no proof to back up such comments that seem to escape the lips of people like Rove and yourself. Ditto-heads like yourself prove to be exactly that, a ditto-head. Nothing but repeating whatever Rush or Rove say. It's shameful. McSame won the primaries because the Republican party is so fractured and demoralized after having seen what has happened while having a country run by someone from this party that they can't figure out who they are. McSame is enough of a centrist to have pulled in enough independents in open primaries to tip the scales in his direction. November will be drastically different.

    And to Summer, I can assure you that myself, and the majority of Americans (you know, those of us who make less than $250k a year), will not be affected by the expiration of the Bush tax cuts that benefit the wealthiest of Americans. In fact, the cuts that Obama has promised are quite significant for those who make under $75k a year. The last time I checked, thats most of America.

    The article is interesting, but leaves one point out, what if the polls are a general indicator of what's going to happen with the general election as far as voter turnout is concerned. Both the Bloomberg and Newsweek polls, the outliers, showed that more Democrats than Republicans participated in the poll. What could be easier than clicking a few buttons on your computer from the convenience of your own home? It'll be interesting who actually shows up to vote this year. Democrats seem to be more invested this time around.

      You need to recheck your facts; in reality, Obama voted Present on 98% of the votes that reached the floor since he has been in the Senate. He doesn't want to vote Yea or Nay because then he could be held accountable.

      You also need to realize getting (or having) your name put on a bill means nothing. Truth is Obama is also the head of a Committee. Since he was appointed the Chairman, the committee has not met a single time. Now that's a DOER!!! Or should I say NON-DOER!!!

There is no present vote in the US Senate, that was in the Illinois Senate where he voted present when he had issues with how a bill was written but not with the issue itself.     Political appeals, even if rooted in religious convictions, must be argued on moral grounds rather than as sectarian religious demands--so that the people (citizens), whether religious or not, may have the capacity to hear and respond. Religious convictions must be translated into moral arguments, which must win the political debate if they are to be implemented. Religious people don't get to win just because they are religious. They, like any other citizens, have to convince their fellow citizens that what they propose is best for the common good-- for all of us and not just for the religious.

      It's all about word association. Have you ever played the word game where you say one word, and the other person has to say the first word that pops into their head? When people hear "Hussein", most think of Sadaam. Although it is his middle name, the campaign tries to refrain from actually using it because of word association.

      I believe that some people get mad because there is clear intent behind using his middle name. What's John McCain's middle name? It must be a pretty common name that doesn't incite any controversy, because no one uses it.         Second, though I've certainly devolved into name calling and mud slinging herein at times -- and usually because I was egged on, which is still no valid excuse -- we all need to have more civilized discourse, so I appreciate you answering in an appropriate manner.
        I read in the NYT (I think it was Nagourney) how Obama's campaign staffers (paraphrasing here) only refer to him as B.O. and never B.H.O. and frown upon use of his middle name.
        WIth a first name so similar to the world's No. 1 terrorist, and a middle name the same as a late Mideast despot with much blood on his hands, I understand the struggle he's had simply because of his name.
        Nonetheless, it seems like any use of his middle name is shouted down by the masses as fear mongering and patently unfair.
        Your thoughts?

      I am a big Obama supporter. I hate the war in Iraq and Mccains views on basically everything. But I am getting sick of hearing racist everytime someone says something bad to say about Obama. Its a election these guys are supposed to be questioned about everything.

      Bigotry has nothing to do with it. People would be concerned about any presidential nominee who is a three-year freshman senator senator and never held statewide office. McCain has experience but he hasn't shown himself to be very impressive. We let the best candidate slip right through our hands

        You still don't get it. It has little to do with the candidates, and everything to do with the parties. A matchup between ANY democrat that ran for office this year vs. ANY republican that ran would have resulted in the same landslide we are about to see this November and, no, not in the republicans favor.

          If judges cannot be impartial then our entire constitution should be discarded and we should start over. We count on judges to be impartial. If we are nominating judges for political reasons, than we are not living up to the expectations of our forefathers

      Regardless of who you support, making predictions like that are very dangerous. Dismissing someone who doesnt't agree with you and making Obama out to be the president elect will only furthers dissenters' opinions that Obama and his supporters are arrogant.

    Obama-the Flip Flopper
    What is amazing about Obama is that he will flip flop over the course of consecutive days--as he did with the "without preconditions" argument. Or whether or not Iran is a threat. One day, it was a "small" threat. The very next day, Obama said that he had always recognized Iran as a "grave" threat.


    Then his campaign will tell us what Obama really meant, which usually involves a lot of doublespeak, and vocabularly manipulation. Who knew that preconditions and preparations, for instance, mean entirely different things, but neither Obama nor his campaign can actually pinpoint the difference?


    And then there's the old standby that Obama was speaking "metaphorically."


    Next, the campaign will scrub the Obama website of any reference to Obama's "old" stance.


    But my favorite recent Obama flip flop has to be when he said that two men heading a VP search committee for Obama did not "work for (Obama)".


    But then at least one resigned the very next day. He had to resign from something--perhaps his job with the Obama campaign?

    This is an opinion piece, not news. If you don't agree with it, offer your argument to the contrary. No need to call something you disagree with garbage, such term, with its "useless" connotation, might be better applied to describe Obama's false promises and empty, boastful rhetoric.


    As for change, McCain has been the REAL FIGHTER FOR CHANGE all his public life... at least, for the last 25 yrs. THe record is there. He has bucked the political establishment on most of the most important and controversial issues of our time. What has Obama done, beside "SACRIFICING" one year of his youth life as a street organizer in Chicago? ALthough that was smartly planned out and he has long reaped the fruits of such an investment.


    Obama = Radical Change to the extreme left.
