Obama's true plan -60 percent tax bracket for upper-income Americans, abandoning all initiative and innovation. How: 40 percent tax bracket in income taxes, FICA taxes to all income, not just that under $100,000. 40 percent plus FICA???s 12.5 percent plus Medicare???s 2 percent plus state and local taxes averaging, after deduction, at 5 percent-6 percent=60 percent bracket.
·Obama would double capital gains tax increasing effective tax on everybody who owns stocks, double dividend tax on which most eldery live,
·Obama would provided r 12 million illegal immigrants with federally subsidized health insurance, dramatically raising costs and rationing healthcare, federal officials will decide if patients are worthy certain procedures. Also he would require Homeland Security operatives to notify terror suspects that they are under investigation within seven days of starting the investigation.
As on energy, since he is opposed to any offshore drilling and any nuclear energy (which fuels 80% of Europe), then Obama will supply truckers with solar energy.

If you want an example of the liberal bias of this article and Newsweek in general, why is former Senator Trent Lott referred to sans his title? He served almost 20 years in the Senate, so certainly he has earned that distinction. Woudl the author refer to one-term John Edwards without calling him, "Sen."? I doubt it.

  • Posted By: pjmarnj @ 06/26/2008 12:30:35 AM

You forgot the biggest factor with the newsweek poll. The liberal press will always find a way to make the poll favor their own candidate. Or have you forgotten the Nicaragua-Ortega presidential poll?

Some of you who read my posts about investment banks driving up the price of oil through commodities futures trading did not believe me that this was a real issue, despite the fact that the Senate is investigating it. Well, it really is an issue and an important one, so important that the Department of Justice is going to investigate.

Senator Obama announced a plan to crack down on excessive energy speculation and fully close the loophole in the CFTC regulations that I referred to in my blog. This loophole is also called the "Enron Loophole" because it was created by McCain campaign co-chair Phil Gramm at the behest of Enron lobbyists, and exempts most trading on energy commodities from regulation. As a result, the CFTC is unable to oversee the oil futures market or investigate cases where excessive speculation is driving up oil prices. Just last month, John Hofmesiter, President of Shell Oil Company, says that the proper, uninflated production price of a barrel of crude oil is no more than $65.

    http://www.financialpost.com/reports/oil-watch/story.html?id=532747

Clarence Cazalot, CEO of Marathon Oil, stated in November of 2007 that "$100 oil just isn't justified by the physical demand on the market - it is speculation on the futures market that is driving this."

    http://money.cnn.com/2007/11/12/markets/oil_hundred/index.htm?postversion=2007111216

Larry Chom, Chief Economist of Platt's, states in a recent Businessweek article that speculation is adding at least $50 to the price of every barrel of oil. You can read this article in the May 13, 2008 edition of Businessweek, but it is no longer available on their website unless you are a member.

To see what Senator Obama is doing to correct this serious problem and lower the price of gas and oil, go to his website:

Now THAT is my kind of President! Sees the problem, and moves to fix it, while Bush and McCain are sitting on their hands.

Nins, with all due respect, I really think it's hard to understand how exactly the traders have been "stockpiling" petroleum - unless of course there is a true supply shortage in which case they'd only be driven by the market fundamentals anyhow.

I know traders of all stripes (energy co's and financial firms, eg) have been focused on physical assets since the collapse of Enron, i.e. So my point is - if speculation has indeed been driving up the price of oil - is not the UNDERLYING CAUSE due to a supply shortage coupled with a demand increase - and believe me, quoting Mr. Cazelot and others in the industry from a year ago is not too compelling... industry leaders do not really want everyone to know about this looming supply shortfall - or perhaps they have mixed feelings.... It could cause ... speculators to buy up remaining supplies, it could cause the NOCs to hoard their oil for their own countries and not sell to the US, who consumes 25% of the world's petroleum... it could cause panic eventually if people believed we were running shorter and shorter on oil... prices are going up due to the fundamentals.

If speculators are "speculating" it's because they know something about supply and demand.

We need to wean ourselves off oil asap - and CONSERVE what we've got left. And there is no way we can tell China or India to do the same, so demand will only keep rising from that part of the world as their populations continue to advance. Who can blame them? They get their example from Americans.

There are more people with cell phones than land lines by a long shot. Since most political polls still exclusively call fixed telephone lines and the cell-phone-only crowd tend to be liberal and younger, these polls are extremely skewed in McCains favor. Almost all of the people I know in their 20"s and 30"s are cell phone only. If the Republicans think THESE polls are bad news, they"ve got a surprise headed their way in November.

Awww Howard, don't sweat it. The Republicans weren't mad at you because of the double digit lead--that part was thoroughly accurate. They just didn't like the fact that you mispelled the last name of the person holding the double digit lead. For future, you spell Obama: M-c-C-A-N-E! McCane! Next time, use spellcheck, wouldja?

    • Posted By: Nins @ 06/25/2008 11:05:39 PM

Um, Carla, you spelled "McCain" wrong. I realize that proper names aren't in spell check, but really!

  • Posted By: whala @ 06/25/2008 10:48:47 PM

Gee, and the media accuses the candidates of pandering? What a load of irrelevant propaganda. It's amazing how they keep reaching out to solidify the coronation of their beloved Obama, as though he were the next Messiah. They are so desperate to quiet people's legitimate concerns that they try to paint the picture that it's already a runaway race.

Interesting how Howard makes a weak attempt to appeal to your sense of objectivity by stating that early polls aren't very reliable, and then proceeds to spend the entire rest of the article trying to convince you that the Newsweek poll is more reliable than all the others. Give me a break.

  • Posted By: Carla126 @ 06/25/2008 10:19:05 PM

Awww Howard, don't sweat it! The Republicans didn't denounce your poll numbers because they were inaccurate. They denounced your numbers because clearly, you misspelled the last name of the guy holding the double digit lead. For future, when there's a lead in the polls, Obama's last name is spelled: McCane. That's M-c-C-A-N-E. McCane! It's obvious, no matter how juvenile it sounds, any positive press you give the Republicans will be enough to WILL them back into the White House.

Its sad day for America if Americans still votes for the Candidates that persists of carry on meaningless expensive War,by borrowing money from other country just to stay in IRAQ,even at the expense of own people miseries at home with many uncertainty. This really makes me wonder, are these prejudice conservative white americans happy going to help and join forces with BIN LADEN to make it happened "America going burst and bankrupt."?

  • Posted By: sobered @ 06/25/2008 9:16:43 PM

Come On ,I've been saying it for months, the Republicans don't have a snowballs chance in the underworld of winnig in November.
I think folks would vote for a Martian before they'd put another Republican in office for another 4 years.
Let's face it,McCain is going senile,he still thinks al queda was in Iraq when we invaded and probably still thinks there are WPD that haven't been found yet.

  • Posted By: nopartyaffiliation123 @ 06/25/2008 8:05:18 PM

The newsweek poll actually favored McCain. I believe that Obama is leading by more than 15 points. McCain may lose his own state, people don't like him much in Arizona. It's not going to be close folks...

  • Posted By: cowen123456 @ 06/25/2008 6:04:42 PM

nope, I for one is up in arm with these bogus polls because when dozen of polls are showing a clear gap....and all of the sudden you see an ultra liberal org coming with their own polls showing a ridiculously big gap...its called fabrication, lies and deceits. That, my friend is why some Mccain supporter like myself are up in arm. We actually thought the media is suppose to only provide straight up un-bias facts!

    • Posted By: mcleodmn @ 06/25/2008 7:39:57 PM

Up in arm, eh? You must be a veteran, or a leper, or really lazy....
