McSame can tout words like "Adult" all he wants.
The truth is he is out of touch with America.
I've known some adults that were as immature as a twelve year old.
Maturity is a state of mind, not an age.
McSame is unreliable, unstable and untrustworthy.

I can't buy anything coming out of McCains mouth these days. The maverick is gone and all that's left is a pandering republican. He's flipped on too many of the pertinent issues to be taken seriously. He's a man without true convictions. Aside from that, we don't need another C- student in the white house.

While McCain may have outlined his energy plan, I'm glad Obama is taking his time. McCain's "adult" policy is childish and immature. It is unbalanced and even ludicrous. $300 million for engineering a new battery? Nuclear Power Plants? Seems like we are putting all our eggs in one basket there. I hope our future president will have a more open mind and not provide more superficial policies that may sound good but have no substance.

McCains plan is very broad. It allows for states to follow the energy paths that is right for it. Some may opt for oil drilling, some more nuclear, some wind, some solar and as for R&D of systems, the one item left to make an electric vehicle popular is an efficient battery.

If you are going to have energy independance and a drastically reduced carbon footprint we must steer toward electricity and away from oil and that includes heavily subsidized ethanol. Thats one rotten egg in Obamas tiny basket we can all do without, except for his voters in the corn belt he has promised to massage with more federal tax dollars.

      • Posted By: typicaldata1 @ 06/27/2008 9:09:26 AM

The long term solution is going to have to be broad-based with nothing overlooked. With all this talk about Nuclear power how is it that the fact that we have, I believe, Nuke Power plants in operation TODAY that are older than Obama. Wouldn't State-Of-The Art Nuke plants produce LESS waste than the flowers of 1950's technology we use today? Should we take a "if it ain't broke don't fix it" attitude towards the plants in operation today and look for someone to blame when they finally blow the heck up and kill thousands? If "It ain't broke don't fix it" works then why do you change the oil in your car? Remeber this: Anyone that thinks there's a quick fix for our energy problem has their head in the sand with their Butt in the air and a whole line of Major Corporations, Oil Companies, and Energy Conglomerates right behind you!!

You are repeating FALSE information about Obama's record, do more research.

I've been reading your posts. Either your speech recognition software is cheap or you are not a US citizen but a foreign national trying to promote your choice for president. In either case your posts are more annoying than informative.

      Hey Jhereg,

Re: "While McCain may have outlined his energy plan, I'm glad Obama is taking his time."

Puleeeeze, that's exactly why nothing ever gets done. BO's let's take our time here approach to this urgent problem is the same thing as saying ...

I DON'T HAVE A "REAL SOLUTION," BUT ANYTHING THAT JM PROPOSES IS SIMPLY LUDICROUS.

BO's now famous line for everything: "My opponent is just playing politics here."

Gee, if I had a dollar for every time Sen. Green has used this line I'd be a millionaire by now! Wake up DemKats! BO has no real solutions! At least Mc is tossing out ideas, while BamBam sucks on his pacifier and criticizes everything.

Gee, AxRod's plan is brilliant! If we don't come up with any ideas nobody can accuse us or the messiah of being politically naive or inexperienced! Now there's a smart Dem Plan! Brilliant AxRod! Keep up the good work you political hack!

McCaine is no fool . That would be a good excuse for his lack ,until now, lack of effort to bring energy independance to the homeland. As a presidental contender from the Bushie party he is second to the almost treasonist neglect of energy independance as a national security concern. While that party had their feet on the throats of the opposition they had plenty of time to; lets say devolpe sugarbeet ethnol production. Which really does not ,or will not, effect the food prices as much . Does anybody eat sugarbeet on the "cob"?

    • Posted By: Zombiehero @ 06/27/2008 8:16:36 AM

Obama's problem is that he voted for more Corn EtOH. The GOP are going to use that and his Farm Bill vote against him and they should. That Farm bill was nothing but throwing money at Farmers, they "hoped" that EtOH was the answer but it wasn't. They put there eggs in that basket and the eggs are rotten.

      • Posted By: OldGamer007 @ 06/27/2008 8:55:22 AM

And in that bill, there was a section on closing the Enron Loophole. But, being McCain has lobbyist on his campaign who were married to an Enron executive, I can see why McCain would appose it.

Watch c-span (Our senate and congress at work), legislation isn't always as pretty as the GOP simpletons would like to make you believe.

  • Posted By: Zombiehero @ 06/27/2008 8:14:25 AM

McCain's plan is a broad multiprong apporach to energy. Obama and the Dems keep trying to knock every proposal down just because it come from the right. When gas hits $ 4.50 or $5 a gallon this summer, McCain is going to have a huge advantage on the Energy issue.

    • Posted By: dvbenz79 @ 06/27/2008 8:19:08 AM

You don't know what you are talking about. Drilling for oil will do nothing to lower the price. Pull your head out of the sand.

Ending commodities futures speculation is the answer.

Price of oil is US$27 a barrel before Bush\MCCain invade IRAQ,Now US$140 abarrel ..Still dont GET IT???

another republican wordsmithing exercise. finding that new tagline to rally them to office. mature is the new experience, which basically means the same ol'. enough posturing, gop has been a disgrace. no promises kept, just talk and blaming. enough already.

by the time we get oil from new wells we should be on electric or something even better so why do the oil rich want more oil maybe its to sell to the 3rd world and get rich from them.
Nuclear energy isn't the way soon I feel we will be on free energy and that will be fought tooth and nail by the worlds powerful rich but they will be taken down just like Rome they will fall, hope it happens soon so I can see the bleeding rich go under along with the power mongers and thoes that want to rule by chaos and fear.

  • Posted By: OldGamer007 @ 06/27/2008 8:32:25 AM

Visit fuelcells.org... We have had electric cars since the 70's, not counting nasa dumping millions of dollars into the development of fuel cells in the 80's and 90's, and McCain wants to spend money to develop one? But what do you expect from someone so out of touch, they can't even use a computer.

"I am an illiterate that has to rely on my wife for all of the assistance I can get." -John McCain after being asked whether he uses a Mac or a PC.

As we waist trillions of dollars on the first ever unprovoked war in US history, the EU approves $1.5 Billion aid for the development of hydrogen cars.

A $300 MIllion battery prize could only be offered by someone with no understanding of economics or industry. In order to invent the battery and claim the prize, one would first have to make a huge R&D investment up-front, with no guarantee of ever claiming the prize. The up-front cost of this investment would have to be paid for by investors, venture capital, stocks, etc. just as they would in the complete absence of a prize. And then you have to realize that anyone who invents such a battery will be fabulously rich well beyond $300 Million once they market it, even in the absence of the government prize. In summary, the $300 Million [prize neither offers up-front assistance nor a long-term market incentive. What a stupic gimmic. Instead, put the money into up-front funding of R&D. Oh wait, that kind of common-sense funding is the domain of 'libruls'. How silly of me.

    • Posted By: johnnyguts @ 06/27/2008 8:19:27 AM

Really? $300 million isn't an incentive? The $10 million X-Prize was enough to get a privately developed spacecraft in flight.

When will the ignorant masses wake up and realize - THE CURRENT OIL PROBLEM HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH REAL SUPPLY AND DEMAND?

Go to the DOE's website and look at the data. The worlds oil demand(usage) is only up 3.7% from 2004 to 2007. There's no shortages at the pumps and even the saudi oil minister has said there is no supply problem and that the prices have been run up by futures speculators.

Just remove speculators from the commodities markets. Make it illegal to buy futures without taking possession of the actual commodity. Prices will drop imediately.

A month ago, republicans were whining over any word people used to point to his age. Now republicans want to play the age card? Nice to see the whole GOP party is a hypocritical flip-flopper, not just McCain...

There is a reason the majority of people who are complaining about his age, are seniors.

  • Posted By: ltcarpio @ 06/27/2008 7:35:52 AM

Well, it's quite easy to see the plain truth from too many posters her:e you don't like anything that emanates from anybody over the age of 65. Ageism - snicker if you like- sadly seems to the major influence on too many people's opinions of the candidates' campaigns. Just because an idea, or a person, originated before you were born does NOT automatically make that idea or person not worth listening to. We need EVERYONE in this country to contribute to finding solutions to our problems. Believe it or not, many older people have lived through worse problems or similar issues and can indeed contribute ideas that can help us through ours today. Political posturing?? Playing politics?? That's part of politics!!! And those who think Barack Obama isn't engaging in those same political games are pitifully naive. Americans of every age group need to get off the "age" thing - youth and age are NOT mutually antagonistic. Over 70 is NOT equivalent to "senile" (whatever the heck that is!) - under 50 is NOT equivalent to "too inexperienced". Discussion, sharing ideas, give and take, making things happen - this is what ALL Americans should commit to and do together!

    • Posted By: jjaffie @ 06/27/2008 8:00:28 AM

As has been said before by others, McCain mirrors Grampa Simpson in many aspects. Age is a perception & McCain comes across as an old man puttering around looking for his lost teeth.

It is up to him to change that. He needs to remember (or have LIEberman do it for him) what he said yesterday and he has to stop forgetting and stumbling through his speeches. Maybe a promo or two of him golfing or playing tennis with his oil buddies or anything that's even mildly athletic.

  • Posted By: martin_gray @ 06/27/2008 1:04:48 AM

McCain's energy plan is nothing more than a plan. It does nothing to increase production anytime in this decade. We need relief now. Reducing the strategic reserve by 2 million barrels can be easily countered by OPEC in reduced pumping leaving us right where we started from and a depleted reserve. According to my calculations, we will always be dependent on foreign oil. We simply do not have the pumping capacity or the reserves to meet domestic needs.

Whala, either work the numbers again on domestic production vs. domestic demand or admit that you are a paid agent of the RNC.

    • Posted By: adirondack_1 @ 06/27/2008 7:51:09 AM

Which party has prevented domestic exploration and increased refining capacity?

Obamas plan to redistribute wealth, socialism in full practice, by taxing the successful and giving to the unsuccessful and uneducated is a vote getter but totally unacceptable. There is no future in energy or alternative energy in his plan at all. Merely paying for more ethanol production is Obamas plan. You pay for the corn, I'll buy into battery research and development and see who has more money in ten years.

  • Posted By: jupmod @ 06/27/2008 6:59:21 AM

Gee, why focus on nuclear power? What about solar? Wind? Give big tax credits for those who invest in solar or wind power, especially home owners. The southwest have so much open space under mostly sunny skies that they can have huge solar power farms to help reduce our power dependence on oil. The government have to start encouraging people to put stock in these power sources that have been in existence for years, and they have to do it with tax credits, etc.

Oh, one more thing... Stop listening to the oil lobbyists, will ya?

  • Posted By: hlc360 @ 06/27/2008 6:57:51 AM

I feel the following is a question that we all should ask ourselves, is an illusion reality or is reality an illusion? In politics the answer probably lies somewhere between. The government could use a bull whip on all of us to get what they want but there are easier and more politically correct ways, such as creating the illusion of fear. The Bush administration is very good at using the fear tactic, for example, to justify going to war with Iraq, remember the threat level with the stupid color codes and the sleazy slogan; if we don???t fight them there they will follow us home. That was enough to scare the be Jesus out of all of us.

The other method to get what they want is to create the reality of hardships on the general public with the illusion of an energy crises. The reality is, if the big oil companies in collusion with the Bush administration creates enough real hardships on the general public they will get whatever they want, such as deep sea drilling and drilling in Alaska.. Furthermore the reality is that if we don???t go along with the illusion they will continue to create even further hardships until we, the general public, can no longer endure the strain and in the end they will get whatever they want. I don???t necessarily disagree with the need for future exploration for oil so this country can buy some time to become energy independent through alternative sources, I just disagree with the tactics. If you don???t agree with this reality then the illusion is obviously working.

Can John McCain bring back reality? Does Barack even have a realistic plan? The reality is that we are most likely doomed to politics as usual.

I haven't heard anything from Obama or any other Democrat that sounds in the least as if it might in any way reduce the current price of fuel. Old solutions? When cars and trucks and power plants no longer require fossil fuels futuristic visions of energy sources may become a reality. While these are being invented and tested we need to rely on what we already know. We need to "Drill here, Drill now, Pay less." And on the subject of nuclear waste, we only have so much nuclear waste because, unlike the French, we refuse to reprocess our nuclear waste out of fear it will fall into the wrong hands.

  • Posted By: Conservative-Democrat @ 06/27/2008 1:41:56 AM

Maturity is often a word given to the aged. However, visionary is not. Obama has vision for America when it comes to his energy plan. Whereas McCain has old gimmicks that some call maturity. Old men have old ideas and young men have new ones. I believe America is ready if not eager for those new ideas, because the old ones do not work.

    • Posted By: PENNNOVELBOY @ 06/27/2008 6:04:57 AM

Obama has a vision for America?? When you can tell me what ideas he finally decides to run on you let me know, because I haven't heard anything. This "vision" he is presenting sounds more like a hallucination.

  • Posted By: Gather Us In @ 06/27/2008 5:27:50 AM

This is journalistic puffery. McCain puts together a grouping of poor, sometimes comical, all ready discussed concepts and he's suddenly mature and showing signs of a true sage? Hardly. Political posturing, plain and simple. Old man, old politics.
