Obama's the most exciting politician we've had in decades, like him or not. And plenty of folks like him. Better get used the idea of a new kind of leadership, a new era for energy policy, and new foreign policy approaches. McCain't is just another GOP luminary. His light is fading with his party's; he's a brown leaf on a half-dead tree. Shake it and it will blow away in the wind.

Obama is the root of the new America - and the poster child for what the world loves about us - our audacity to be different, our leadership and global outlook, and our innovation (which died under Bush)... All you naysayers in favor of McSame, try to understand that this represents a whole new way to look at our country for many around the world. It inspires people and makes them think highly of us. Would you want to throw all this glory away for the sake of a tired old brown leaf?

Senator Obama, and America is very lucky to have the Campaign Management Team he has. They are doing a very good job of mapping a strategy for a major victory for the Democrats in November, not just for the presidency, but for the house and senate as well.

Now that Senator Clinton is on board, I think the Obama lead in the polls will increase 5 - 10 %. All (women) have to do is think of the Supreme Court Appointents under the next administration and the choice should be very easy.. I know it is in our household... I can't see my daughters and the women in my extensive family giving up all they fought so hard for giving it up to John McCain's court appointees.

John McCain's voting record on women's rights and civil rights is a joke. Don't take my word - take a look in google and the congressional and senate archives.. Every vote he ever cast is there on the record.

Not to mention major problems like the economy, gasoline prices, wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, Iran, environment, unemployment, crime, etc.. These are all very real and important issues.

Senator McCain does not come across to me as a man who can stand and deliver,,,

The decision is clear: Do you want to be fooled by anti-american and pro-Africa flip flopper Barack Hussein Obama who put himself first and tends to changed his words in response to daily news like a chameleon.... ? or do who want to be led by a straight talker, a true american survivor "john MCain" who has proven to put his country first? Make your choice! Change change change..... with the chameleon or straight talk with the Maverick!!!!

Ahhh, yes - the ol' "just look at his name" ploy. Well, I just don't trust anyone whose name has "Cain" in it - he's obviously a sleeper Manchurian BiblioTerrorist. And besides - his name sounds Scottish, not American - that makes him anti-[A]merican and pro-Scotland - obviously just a con man. But you are correct that in strengthening ties with lobbyists and proving fealty to discredited neocon policies, McCain is putting his country first. Well, he's putting *ruining* his country first, but hey - why not call a spade a spade - at least he's white, right?

Another person using the race issue. Obama , poor little black man everyone is picking on...He's a whiner.

  • Posted By: holmantx @ 06/27/2008 5:48:07 PM

The Neoconservative Movement has destroyed the Republican Party, and has given rise to Obamacons - conservatives who believe The Republican party must be totally removed from power before the Neos can be leeched off the party leadership.

  • Posted By: miltongalfas @ 06/27/2008 11:18:29 AM

Obama is an idiot who plays the race card, lies, and doesn't have a clue how to run a country. You would have to be an idiot to want such a low class self-centered butt hole as president.

    • Posted By: trekbowler @ 06/27/2008 4:29:22 PM

Correction, BUSH is a low class butt hole president. Obama is like the rose bush sprouting from that pile of crap. Thankfully there is someone to challenge McSame and stop the crap from piling up any further.

    • Posted By: josemarti @ 06/27/2008 11:53:58 AM

I think you are underestimating Senator Obama. He does play the race card, but he is not an idiot. He lies, but he has some clear ideas about how to run this country. He is a purposeful, radical liberal who has managed to hijack the Democratic Party.

      • Posted By: News and Notes @ 06/27/2008 2:00:16 PM

You raise an interesting point. Since 1994 and the Gingrich revolution, the radicals have taken control of the Republican party. After this primary season, it appears the radicals have taken control of the Democratic party as well. If Obama is not elected, or if he is elected and does a terrible job, the DNC and democratic elites will be wondering what went wrong.... again

  • Posted By: trekbowler @ 06/27/2008 4:27:05 PM

Of course the Media will tell us that it's a close race and it will be until November. Look at the ratings boom the protracted Democratic race provided. A long, drawn out race until November keeps magazines selling and TV's tuned to CNN/Fox/etc. The truth is that, poll after poll are coming out (and will continue) to show that Obama has built minor leads in many states and these will continue to grow as he shows that he cares about people and their sons and daughters, mothers and fathers, who are fighting for a cause that most of America do not believe in; Money and Oil.

    Change we NEED.
    Obama '08

Dear Denmill; I can understand ranting against something you dislike. However you are ranting with no fundamental knowledge so you come out sounding real stupid. What "new campaign finance bill? Parts of the "old" McCain-Finegold bill were just found to be unconstitutional by a very conservative Supreme Court. Obama always expressed great reservations about giant loopholes in the bill that allowed for unlimited collection of soft money. This loophole greatly favored national Republican fundraising by independent groups (and is why they favored passage of the bill). You through around terms (certainly not yours) like "audacious arrogance" sort of paraphasing a really stupid comment from Carl Rove. BTW: Bush went to Yale. Bush belonged to a country club. Bush was born into wealth. The family can trace their roots to the Mayflower. They are American Bluebloods. McCain was born into wealth. He went to the best of schools. He is well educated unlike you.

Unfortunately, I think that long-winded and abstract rants about Obama's slogan are much more of a cheap shot (both for being poorly thought out and for grandiously assuming that more sentences=more true) than concluding that commenters are capable of reading what they type before they post it. However, I don't want to distract this thread so I'll let your reply be the final word on the subject. Have a lovely day.

I find the Obamacons far from persuasive: they are snide, overconfident and rude.

I truly believe that McCain's real support is part of a large silent majority that is just biding its time till November and then will quietly go to the polls and vote for him. It doesn't take a lot of enthusiasm to pull that lever. Let the Obamacons jump up and down and even pee their pants while they wait on line in the rain. McCain's voters will pull up to the firehouse, jump out of their trucks and vote in five minutes. They will do it all day long and be glad of it.

They aren't telling Ms Clift about it. To them she lives on Mars!

    • Posted By: News and Notes @ 06/27/2008 4:15:47 PM

That is an interesting point. There may very well be a lot of supporters who are "leaning" towards Obama, or are "wobbly" Obama supporters. However, due to his thin resume and soaring rhetoric, many voters are concerned and unless there is significantly more substance and specific plans for delivery of stated policies, many (including democrats) may stay home or undervote. Its not the lack of support, its the lack of enthusiasm amongst moderates that may be a problem

    • Posted By: Dave in NM @ 06/27/2008 2:13:35 PM

Hehe - "silent majority." Where have I heard that term before...?

  • Posted By: tyvigh @ 06/27/2008 3:36:19 PM

Elenor this article has a few problems. First you said Georgian hasn't gone democrat since 1976, but I believe Clinton won it in 1992 and lost it by one point in 1996. However Gore and Kerry lost it big (Gore by 12 and Kerry by 16). Also RealClearPolitics has Mccain ahead by 8.4 points average with some polls showing him ahead by as much as 14 points. You talk about Obamas gender gap being 12-21 points and compare it with Goer and Kerry. News flash they lost. He has to to much better than Goer or Kerry ditto for the hispanic margin. Here you didn't even cite the historic Clinton margin, but if Obamas range is 21-29 and Gore won by 27 Obama is in trouble even if he gets the 29 point advantage. I do hope Obama wins in the end the problem is some of his supporters are so blind the can't imagine he could loose. They were equally shocked when he lost OH, PA and KY and WV by huge margins. As a former HRC supporter I must view him a bit differently than his adoring media supporters. He is a politician with a chance at becomming president. With the choice between Obama and Mccain, I choose Obama, but he needs to connect with HRC supporters in a way that he hasn't yet. I will vote for him because the other choice is so bad, not because he has done much to attract me.

Obama has proven again to be the true chameleon that he is. Once again he thinks that he can buy the american people vote. He flip flopped against the new campaign finance reform bill so that he could pay Hillary debts under cover and create a scam "unity" in Unity, NH. I think the perfect setting would be a meeting in Looneyville, TX. or Lonneyville, WV. for "lunatic". Another appropriate setting would be the town of Deception, Quebec in Canada for "fishy business south Chicago style". His egocentricity has blinded his reasoning and his audacious arrogance has made him believe that his intelligence is above everyone. He truly thinks that he can manipulate anybody by playing the frivole next door attitude. Barack Hussein Obama eventhough you are a chameleon, you can fool some of the people some of the times, but not all of the people all of the times.

    • Posted By: Pia1981 @ 06/27/2008 3:17:55 PM

This Obama buying votes is nothing but more fabricated nonsense and matters not. Obama wins in Nov!

Eleanor Clift like every other leftist liberal journalists tends to redefine the true role of a journalist which is to "report facts" into the new role of "reporting fabricated facts" and "activist". We wonder what the subcription of newspaper and magazine such as Newsweek is down the toilet. Eleanor you can continue mapping all you want, but guess what? you are not going to change the mind of the american People. Please, do not count John Mcain out. Remember the media was traching him in the primaries but he came on top. The same thing is going to happen in the November election. you cannot possibly think that the American people are going to vote for an egomaniac flip flopper just Obama especially in a time of uncertainty. We are clode to a 3rd world war and we certainly will not elect a closet muslin who is trying to redefine himself and his wife obvious hate and disrespect for America in order to satisfy his own ego. The man has not even won the election of 2008, but he is already preparing for 2012. This is a trait of a true dictator. We cannot afford his anti american view, but you would not know that because you are a part of the "so called egocentric elite" who spit on America and Americans every days with your words. You and Obama are more citizen of the world that you are citizen of the good old USA , who allow you to print your nasty words daily. Go to Cuba and talk bad about Castro, your neck would be cut off before you could even say your first name. Oh no, I forget, Castro is your pen pal!!!!! You are an enemy within just like the rest of your communist friends!!!

    • Posted By: Dave in NM @ 06/27/2008 2:18:00 PM

And "leftist?" What is this - Beirut? At least cold-war cliches are a *little* more timely.

I do not concede that McCain will lose: he does so himself by his incredibly lazy, unimaginative and lacklustre way of campaigning.

He does not work weekends. That tells us everything. He is not serious, and seems to be just going through the motions. Weekends is when people are there to be spoken to. He hasn't even got that.

McCain has to move to the center. Instead he keeps yapping complacently about his conservative credentials.

The astounding thing is that despite such brain-dead behaviour, Obama is so deeply distrusted by people that he is barely ahead in most polls.

That is staggering, and means the two are actually neck and neck - given that a good percentage of those who claim to favour Obama have to be discounted as McCainites afraid to admit it lest they be seen as unfashionable for not agreeing with the media's insane adulation of this prancing, identity-cliche-strewing clown

    • Posted By: News and Notes @ 06/27/2008 1:56:38 PM

The Republicans put up the best candidate they could, but you're right, he is lazy, detatched, and pandering to too many groups at once. The democrats passed over their best candidate. Obama is a highly intelligent, and is a gifted and brilliant orator and politician, but he lacks the necessary expereince to deliver on his policies. We are stuck with two terrible candidates.

What a foolish and misdirected post! Mrs. Clift was reporting about the strategy set forth by Obama's campaign manager, she wasn't fabricating anything. The Obamas do not hate America, Obama has spent his entire adult life serving this country.

  • Posted By: jefflee @ 06/27/2008 1:36:36 PM

Barak Obama doesn't have a 50 state strategy... He's got a 57 state strategy. He's already been to all 57 of our great states. What a brilliant strategerist.

"Obamacon" means "conservative for Obama." I don't think that's what you mean to be saying when you use the word for the army of Obama volunteers.
