I wonder how many people out there are Pro-Life (About abortions) but are also for (Euthanasia) in cases of brain trauma of the neo cortex (Personality death, permanent coma)

The two issues seem to be intertwined to me, if most Anti-Abortion people are pro-Euthanasia then both sides of the isle may one day be able to settle their differences.

If however most Anti-Abortion people are against Euthanasia (On the grounds that the mind is not needed to make life sacred) I really do not see for the two sides will ever come to a compromise both are happy with.

The Pro Abortion people will never want to give up their right to an abortion for a fetus they do not consider "alive", while the Pro Life people will always view (even early term abortions) as murder.

Willis makes some good points... However, this two sided issue is a pro-chioice situation bottom line.

Birth-contol & sex education & ppl taking resonsibility is the big issue....

Jim Wallis makes some excellent points and has proposed a sane foundation for the beginning of a new cooperative effort in reducing abortions. He misses just one tiny detail - abortions are big business. Planned Parenthood posted in its 2007 fiscal year end report that it brought in more than $1 billion performing nearly 290,000 abortions.

Since Planned Parenthood performs one-fourth of all abortions in the U.S., one could extrapolate that the entire abortion industry took in $4 billion in revenue last year. That doesn't count the tens of millions of dollars raised by pro-choice organizations to fund their efforts, their candidates and their lobbyists - dollars that are raised by continually raising the spector of women losing "control of their own bodies" and their "right to choose". If both sides came together to reduce the number of abortions, the pro-choice side would lose the element of life threatening urgency in their fundraising - and they would erode the more than $4 billion they make every year in their main line of business.

Unless Mr. Wallis can figure out a way to replace $4 billion in annual revenue through adoption fees, I think he will be hard pressed to get much cooperation from the abortion industry and its many lobbying arms.

Some day I hope someone addresses the issue of the responsibility of the male partner to contribute to the reduction in the number of abortions needed by refraining from impregnating his female partner or, if he has helped her to become pregnant, by being as supportive of her in her pregnancy as she needs him to be. I get tired of the fact that it is only the woman who is targeted as the site of the conflict while the man seems to get a free pass to do whatever he wishes with no accountability.

    • Posted By: loriw @ 07/17/2008 2:28:35 PM

VERY,VERY WELL STATED! The fathers of these babies are too easily let off the hook!!!!! Men need to step up and act responsibly and women must hold them accountable!

  • Posted By: kindatheart @ 07/02/2008 11:47:58 AM

After my baby's heartbeat stopped, I had to visit an abortion clinic because my body would not expel the fetus. There were abortion protesters there, and they attacked me and began screaming vile things at me. I explained to them that my (loved, wanted) baby had already died, but they did not stop. They put a poster of a cut-up baby in my face and told me that was what I was going to do with my baby's body. I left that day, but I had to go back later because if I did not have the procedure, I could die of an infection. I wish that the protesters would have focused more on preventing the demand for abortion than harrassing women having D&Cs.

BULL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU WOULD HAVE HAD ETOPIC PREGNANCY SURGERY !!! IF THAT WAS THE CASE !

      • Posted By: loriw @ 07/17/2008 2:23:24 PM

While ectopic pregnancy can cause the life of a fetus not every fetal loss is caused by ectopic pregnancy.
I feel badly that Kindaheart lost her baby and even sadder that she had to go to the abortion clinic to get care that could have been given in a real hospital where she would have gotten compassionate care and follow up with an grief counselor. Abortion clinics to my knowledge don't provide infant loss grief support after they collect your money.

      • Posted By: Yuseff @ 07/10/2008 4:50:54 PM

Kindatheart, Willnotvoteobama would have gleefully seen you die from a septic infection rather than you abort that dead fetus.

      • Posted By: midnightblue4221 @ 07/03/2008 2:25:36 PM

No, your wrong willnotvoteobama! She would have had to have a D&C! I'm not sure why she went to an abortion clinic to have it done because you can go to a hospital for that but if what she says is true, she would have gotten a D&C!

        • Posted By: willnotvoteobama @ 07/03/2008 2:59:31 PM

D&C 'S ARE SCRAPING OF THE UTERUS RIGHT WELL IF THE BABY HAD A HEART BEAT THEN THAT DICTATES SHE WAS PAST THE EMBRYO STAGE OF THE PREGANACY AND THE BABY BEING A FETUS WOULD HAVE TO BE TREATED WITH A ETOPIC SURGERY NO HOSPITALS WILL CHANCE MISSING SOME OF THE FETUS WITH A D&C ONLT Y THE BUTHERS AT THE ABORTION CLINIC TRY THAT ETOPIC SURGERY IS THE ONLY PROCEDURE THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN A OPTION FOR THE WELL BEING OF THE MOTHER !

        • Posted By: willnotvoteobama @ 07/03/2008 2:53:30 PM

NOT IF THE BABY WAS IN HER THIRD TRIMESTER OTHERWISE NOBODY WOULD HAVE KNOWN SHE WAS EVEN PREGNANT !!

the grand daughter of dr.king is agaist obama and is against abortion she said that since he has supported abortion that 24 million black babies have died at the hands of the abortion dr's

24 million black babies have died at the hands of the abortion dr's.
This is a very, very sad statistic.....

Hussein's answer....."i don't want my children punished with a baby." He supports partial-birth, and any other type. The concept that this is not murder, is lack of values to the highest degree. The strongest supporters of murdering the innocents, will in the same breath, denounce the death penalty or war casualties. Babies are no more than a burden. God will judge.

    NOBAMA!!!

    • Posted By: Yuseff @ 07/10/2008 5:02:17 PM

Most pro-choice activists don't care about the fate of the child. They simply want the child born. Once the kid is here both he and the mother can go to hell as far they are concerned.

      • Posted By: aintwegotfun @ 07/11/2008 1:17:02 PM

Yuseff, your mother allowed you to be born. You are a unique human being. But you deny this right to life for others. We will never know whom it is we have destroyed. What potential they had. Pro abotionists are anti life. Life is cheap to them. O'Bama doesn't want his girls to be saddled with a baby they do not want. How about him bringing back the "Chastity Belt"? All humans are unique, no one is exactly like the other. The closest we come to that is identical twins that have shared the same egg. I equate the ending of life before it begins as no different then the mass slaughter of living people that goes on in the world since history has been recorded. Thank your mother every day that she gave you life!

This country is doomed if a man like that ever got into the White House, doomed I tell you!!!!!

Comment: Barack Obama had the right as a U.S. Senator to go to look at Iraq. He did not. Then, one of his big vote getters was a promise to get us the hell out of Iraq. Now, nominated, he plans to go to Iraq to see if he needs to change his mind. I voted for him principally because he promised to get us the hell out of there. If he goes there and comes back to endorse staying there, then I reserve the right to flush my Obama vote down the toilet.

This section of DiscoverTheNetworks examines Barack Obama's connections to a number of key individuals and organizations. In some cases, these affiliates are notable for the leftist views and objectives they share with Obama. In other cases, they are notable for their collaboration with Obama in controversial or unethical activities. In all cases, they offer a window into Barack Obama's values and priorities. Taken as a whole, they verify Thomas Sowell's observation that Obama has "spent decades aiding and abetting people who hate America."

From Dreams of My Father: 'I ceased to advertise my mother's race at the age of 12 or 13, when I began to suspect that by doing so I was ingratiating myself to whites.'
From Dreams of My Father : 'I found a solace in nursing a pervasive sense of grievance and animosity against my mother's race.'
From Dreams of My Father: 'There was something about him that made me wary, a little too sure of himself, maybe. And white.'
From Dreams of My Father: 'It remained necessary to prove which side you were on, to show your loyalty to the black masses, to strike out and name names.'
From Dreams of My Father: 'I never emulate white men and brown men whose fates didn't speak to my own. It was into my father's image, the black man, son of Africa , that I'd packed all the attributes I sought in myself , the attributes of Martin and Malcolm, DuBois and Mandela.'

WELL HE FLIP FLOPPED AGAIN NOW ABOUT ABORTION !!!

  • Posted By: willnotvoteobama @ 07/03/2008 3:03:01 PM

Refer to these votes by Obama if you are looking for proof...
2001 IL Senate Bill 1095, Born Alive Infant Protection Act --Obama voted NO

2002 IL Senate Bill 1662, Born Alive Infant Protection Act --Obama voted NO

2003 IL Senate Bill 1082, Born Alive Infant Protection Act --Obama finally got the bill from the senate as he was the chaired of the health and human services committee. He held on the Bill and make sure it would not come up for a comittee vote.

This is the sort of radical ultra left stands he takes that frightens me.....who would vote against ensuriing life saving protocols for infants borned alive even...if it was during and abort process gone wrong. Who? who would do this? Why would you kill a child who have made it alive into the world against all odds.....what is the humane justification?

  • Posted By: neferetnetcheret @ 07/02/2008 9:27:40 AM

I have an idea that will eliminate unwanted pregnancies all together. It may not be popular, but it would be effective. Why don't we just give all men vasectamies? They are reversable if a man decided down the road to have a child. If he had to go through a painful surgery to have children, maybe condoms wouldn't seem quite so "uncomfortable." We could even require potential parents to get licensed before having the surgery. Of course the surgery would be free to people who have a parent license. We don't want to discriminate against the poor after all. Those who don't want to have their own can adopt from over-populated countries. Everybody's happy.

  • Posted By: ajmccarter @ 06/30/2008 3:18:53 PM

To Loriw: One of the responsibilities of parenthood is to instill your values to your children. You are free to do so and to keep a culture of openness and honesty (and encourage abstinence) when you parent your own children and educate them about sexuality. Of course, in an ideal world, a 13 year old child who is seeking birth control would be free to discuss it with her parents. However, there are many more stories of children who come from less than ideal homes. Personally, I would rather see a 13 year old girl receive the services she needs and is willing to take responsibility for them than one that is having to consider having an abortion or having a baby.

    • Posted By: loriw @ 07/01/2008 10:37:32 PM

please re-read my post. I think if a 13 yr old is having sex there is something seriously wrong in the family.
If the school is the first to be made aware that this child is having sex i think they need to contact both the parents and a child protective service agency and not just simply hand out a morning after pill. It is not NORMAL for a child of 13 or 14 to be having sex!

  • Posted By: willnotvoteobama @ 06/30/2008 9:47:13 PM

KOOL-AID??????..From the kitchen of the obama sheeple!! take one heaping spoonful of an inexperienced elitist white male seeking self validation through exploitation of his african-american genetics. Combine two parts black liberation theology clerics spewing intolerance! With two parts of unrepentant intellectuals committed to the destruction of America. Stir in one cup of militant black wife harboring the overwhelming desire to stick it to whitey and one spoonful of typical white person grandmother mix well. Pour a gallon of anti-patriotism into tall glasses and sprinkle with naïve foreign policy ideations. Serve on a platter of meaningless oratorical hyperbole with a generous dollop of wealth re-distribution. Sprinkle liberally with zest of white guilt flip it and flop it till it tastes right. Serve large portions to the undiscerning and spellbound masses convinced that the Second Coming is upon America and now you have a complete recipe for disaster!

  • Posted By: aliciainsd @ 06/27/2008 3:41:18 PM

Some people sincerely view the morning after pill as killing a life that has already been formed. It is our right to refuse to hand out a pill that we believe is murder. I think that abortion reduction would be a step in the right direction. I think that schools across the nation should be allowed to provide "the pill" to girls over the age of thirteen without parental conscent. I also agree that before any abortion is performed women should be required to have an ultrasound, the reason that liberals oppose women viewing an ultrasound is they know that many women would recognize that they are ending a young life and decide against abortion.

    • Posted By: loriw @ 06/29/2008 2:45:14 AM

No one should be allowed to give a child a medication of any kind without the parent's knowledge or permission! If the school became aware that my 13 yr old was having sex and didn't notify me I would be irate. Children of 13 should not be having sex and if schools informed parents perhaps parents could get help for any 13 year old that thinks she is old enough or is being pressured to engage in sex at such a young age. Sorry I think schools need to stop dispensing contraceptives and call more parents to inform them that their child is having sex at an inappropriate age. At the very least the school should call social services/child protective services to report a child of 13 who is having sex.

Alicia - where I really have a disconnect with so many of the pro-life folks is their inconsistency - they often support the death penalty, the war in Iraq, no gun control... If a cell is life, doesn't a body outside of the womb also as life?

NARAL is being dishonest,in bringing the language of the wolf in a peaceable sheeps clothing. While few can argue that the idea is to have fewer abortions, through,as MACLEAN observed, low cost contraceptives or reversable vasectomies,NARAL also engages[especially when its president was Kate Michelman] in moving the trimester football down the field into an abortion-on-demand goalline which goes beyond even the scope of the original ROE decision. Or,abortion beyond the third trimester.NARAL was called on its dishonesty during a House committee hearing in 1997 which was then arguing over late-term abortions called DxX [Dilation and Extraction],by the one side and ''partial-birth abortion''by the other. During these hearings NARAL made the medically unexpert claim that such fetuses in a six-seven-month range[beyond the Third],do not feel pain under anathesia while the surgery is being performed. Doctors from the American Medical Assn. The American Society of Anathesioligists, and even the president of a medical organization of abortion providers all called NARALS claims false. An already barbaric procedure, opposed by fully 70% of Americans, was being wrapped in a pretty bow by NARAL and real doctors were not buying.
Abortions by demand in the third trimester are no differant than 2nd Amendment supporters demanding to buy rocket-launchers and machine guns. It is the totality of their demands that are placing this issue into hot debate between the sides. Nor is PP any help here as it has already been found guilty in several states of working outside of state law in getting abortions for victims of rape without the required notification to authorities.[Let alone parents].
Thus,pro-lifers must include the ideal of contraception, cheap and low cost as a means to prevent unwanted pregnancy, and disavow any and all persons using or promoting violence against those who have been granted,as a portion of the ROE decision,a right to terminate their pregnancies.
Pro-choicers must end their dishonesty and stop trying to act as medical experts when they clearly are not, adhere to the laws of the state where they operate, and remain within the confines of ROE and quit attempting to advocate abortions on a thing that is no longer a thing,a ''zygote''or even a ''fetus''as we know it,but a being with a functioning heart and brain, feet and limbs, and a respitory system ready to accept the air of the outside world,a being that most certainly, can feel pain.

  • Posted By: C. MacLean @ 06/27/2008 1:38:06 PM

The best, easiest and smartest way to promote abortion reduction is to promote easily accessible, low-cost contraception. Period.

Let's expose this rhetoric for what it is:"easier adoption" is a euphemism for abortion restriction - adoption is difficult emotionally, and always has been, but it is legally quite easy. Putiing the emphasis on "easier adoption" will not reduce the number of abortions but it certainly makes for a distraction of the real issues, and allows the far right to avoid any real discussion, or responsiblity for abortion reduction.

Abstinence only sex education in the schools is counter to abortion reduction. Pharmacists refusing to prescribe morning-after medications because of their "moral" values is counter to abortion reduction. Denying funding from a clinic that provides contraception because they also perform abortions is counter to abortion reduction.

Yes, abortion reduction is something we can all get behind, nobody thinks abortion is wonderful. And dialogue, true dialogue, would be welcome. However, the pro-life movement has been behind abortion reduction for some time now - it is the hard line conservative right that has placed obstacles in the path of those who would support abortion reduction.
