Get used to this. As other economies emerge around the world, the successful companies based outside of the USA will want to buy US based companies in order to grow. We in the USA have bought companies based in foreign countries over the past one hundred years and we had no problem doing so, so why is this a problem? If InBev is a well managed international corporation, then it would strengthen the Budweiser brand rather then weaken it, that is what well managed companies do.

But this may not be good news for the many suppliers who provide the grains, hops and containers for AB. That business could move elsewhere. Or perhaps another company will rise to take advantage of what AB and InBev leave behind if they abandon operations in the USA.

I apoligize for going off topic but I still agree with most, we made them rich, and who they are, and they should repay our loyality, but will go for the money, and that is not right in any dimension. I just pray the hops ind that supplied Bud finds a way not to go under, this to would be a great loss, and means more unemployment, and a farmer being paid to grow nothing. Ya it's Capitalism, but the worst kind, the kind who profits the shareholder, but screws the American.. If they installed alt energy, they would not need to move, cause the profit margin would surfice the shareholder. 40 Billion would have done the job, with change.

The one and only Bud [POT], good for cloths, energy, paper, and medical. Can't be bought [it's illegal in most states] but still the ONLY Bud that cannot be bought by an out of country company. That's the point, America for sale, not good, should be fined for thinking of abandoning it's own, who made them rich. Just like every company we made rich, and is now NOT located inside American borders. It was posted as a haha but seems to ring true anyway. Your post all are very good points and we both know it will go the way of money, loyality is not profitable at this time. So the next time you see a hat or shirt that says "This Bud is for you" will only refere to pot. as you say, not good to lose a deeply rooted company to yet another country. We can grow our own to use for a lot of needed things, if DC would pull there heads out of the bottle [there generations drug of choice] It's a proven fact they will not acknolage it at all, as a mutiple use product. All they see is a 1960 sterotype. Legalize it, tax it, and use it for mutiple problems we currently have. I do understand there is not much profit cause we can grow our own, but we [self] cannot grow enough to use for every thing it can do, farms will have to grow, and the money trail begins. The profit starts to show. It could even win our war on drugs. Ford moved out of country,Halliburton is also not inside US borders! Fact is we have the most closed factories in the world, cause we sell out to keep the shareholders happy, and arguee global warming, so retro fitting our empy factories is not a priority, not good for the unemployed inside our borders. Budwiser is not the first, but it seems the most important-why? Sorry for the confusion and if it offended you to use pot as a Made in America product and used to the fullest exstent of it properties, i aplogize. No corp or company WE MADE RICH should ever had the right to relocate, out of country, screwing the ones who made them who they are! That's a fact! One I believe we agree on.

      FYI
      Pot is illegal to use.
      Pot is illegal to grow.
Pot is illegal to use for any reason [ medical exception by some state laws] but Federaly illegal.
Under the Federal produce export laws, Pot IS A LEGAL product, to EXPORT! How?
We are smarter than we were 30 years ago, we have far better technology than we did 30 years ago!
So why is every thing still the same, and done the same way?

pinkpanther-I'm trying hard to understand your post, but I don't quite get it. Anheuser-Busch CAN be sold and it IS taxed. It IS legal (except to minors) and it IS made in America as we speak. What are you trying to get at?

Face facts folks the only Bud in America has red or purple hairs in it! IT CANNOT BE SOLD OR TAXED OR USED OR SOLD TO ANOTHER COMPANY! SO LEGALIZE IT TAX IT AND BUD WILL BE MADE IN AMERICA ONCE AGAIN!

What we have here is a company with its past deeply rooted in American history and tradition. However, it is a publicly traded company as well-also part of American tradition. It's called capitalism. By definition, any publicly traded company is at the mercy of the majority stockholders, should they decide it's in their best interests to sell. Money talks. Now it's up to the board to decide what's more important-loyalty or money. Tough choice, huh?

Bud, like Ford, and EVERY OTHER AMERICAN PRODUCT!!! IS NO LONGER MADE IN AMERICA!!! JUST USED HERE FOR PROFIT!

Bud absolutely is made in the U.S. Unlike Ford, it uses completely American ingredients (parts), too. Bud is made in St. Louis, MO, Houston, TX, Merrimack, NH and several other all-American locations.

Is nothing sacred? Budweiser and Anheuser-Busch have been American institutions for over a hundred years. Not only that, they represent the best of what American enterprise is capable of. InBev has a history of raiding corporations and decimating their operations for cash. They're going to borrow 40 billion dollars to buy AB, so immediately they'll be heavily saddled with debt to acquire AB. Maybe AB should borrow 40 billion dollars so they can buy InBev instead. InBev is not that much larger than Anheuser-Busch.

once again, this article focuses on this corporate-driven model of endless, sustainable growth. While I get the notion of 'satisfying the shareholders', it seems that everything is sacrificed at the alter of profit. I cannot quite put my finger on it, but it seems its been a source of trouble for this country, and the way we do business, for a long time now. I guess its a greed thing...

I could not disagree more. It would be a shame to see six generations of tradition thrown away. The xenophobic flag waving so many do these days is sickening to me, but something about this deal makes me sad. Whether you like Budweiser as a beer is not the point. Eventually all the production will be moved elsewhere and Bud will become just another brand without anything behind it. This is an iconic American company, and should stay within our borders, but money is king in this world so it will probably happen.

Bud hasn't been a "real beer" for thirty years.

  • Posted By: unrepentant @ 06/28/2008 10:33:29 AM

I sure hope this sale goes through. Maybe they will turn Bud onto something drinkable. Right now it is nothing more than colored fizzy water.
