Comment: You got it all wrong, world is in crisis and superpower has responsibilty on behalf of all people who are struggling on their own coutries with facisim islamisim or whatever for that matter. Just take darfur for example, if world powers don't stop it that genocide won't stop. So we are instantly war with criminals which appointed as Presidents/Prime Minsters in their own countries and do nothing but expanding brutality and beyond barbarity.

Comment: President Bush stated that the war in Afghanistan must continue or the country will become an asylum for drugs, terrorism and the organized crime. He says that we fight has toxic ideology of the Islamic extremism which threatens to become a total movement .

Afghanistan now produces 90% of the world of 'opium of S; more than any other country. The trade of drugs bursting is the direct corollary of the invasion of the USA. Nobody denies even this. Bush created the world 'narco-colony of the S largest. Is this success?
Then what about Israel And The Clash Of Civilisations?

Comment: Considering that millions of Iraq citizens have been displaced to other countries and this article compares the normal life now in the US so therefore no war, ignores the tragedies in Iraq today. It also fails to address the enormous costs by the US which otherwise would have been available to help this normal life here.
Lose of prestige around the world is another cost hard to quantify, but significant nonetheless. Other costs of this non war in Iraq include at least $1 trillion to pay for our wounded over the next 10 years. Other costs are for these returning military veterans into the population who are now trained to kill. The soldiers over there now feel they are in a real war and do ot need to come home and be told it was a non war.

Comment: What is a War President, or Prime Minister, for that matter. Churchill said it best, "Courage is Grace under Pressure." Mr. Churchill had his belly full of battle early in his life. And I believe it made him a better "Commander-in-Chief". RFK told the story of what happened in the Cabinet Room during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He related that eight out of the thirteen in the room wanted to go to war with the Russians. Kaboom. I

beieve that Jfk's resove not to fight came from his brutal experience in the Pcific Theater during WWIIbelieve th

Comment: Unfortuantely the issue is not a wartime President or the need for one. The issue is who will confront militarism in US society at large, and the readiness to use force to solve international problems. This is the real choice facing the next President as total GDP devoted to present and past wars exceeds 20% not the less than 5% often graphed as the DOD take on war and its related issues. Example, almost $500B needs top be spent on cleanup from the early atomic/nuclear age and consequent environemental damage. Even with 1000 WWII vets dying each day, new intake and needs demonstrate that VA funding should be increased by over 1/3 just to do justice ot the existing vets and those beooming vets in the near future. WARS are costly but note that Bush did fire Bruce Lindsay for predictiing Iraq alone would cost $200B a number far exceeded already.

Comment: Cont: We should not lower our standards and join the other despots of the world. Rove should realize that standing for Justice is more important than revenge. He should consider that the principles of legal representation, fair trial, hearing all the evidence against you, innocent until proven guilty, and all the other aspects of the Rule of Law are what make us an Ethical or Moral nation that rise above the muck of Tyranny. The America Rove would like to see is one that breeds dictatorship, authoritarianism, tyranny, or totalitarianism. The lack of principle Rove would wish for the American legal system is not only for foreign enemies, it was a wish he had for all Americans as well. That is the removal of the rule of law for anyone labeled an Enemy Combatant, Foreign or American. Thank any God that the Supreme Court ruled that all People are protected by the Constitution when detained by the State. A person has to be proven guilty by more than mere suspicion. All persons must be proven guilty or innocent by a court of law through a preponderance of evidence not by suspicion, not by tribunal, not by public opinion, rather by LAW, our Constitution. What is so hard to comprehend for Mr. Rove? Law?

Comment: Karl Rove appeared on the Hannidy and Colms Show (July 5th 2008) to discuss the issue of Enemy Combatants and Habeas Corpus pertaining to the recent Supreme Court ruling. When K. Rove was confronted with the underlying constitutionality of the war he kept going back to the words ???use of force.??? This is an attempt to hide behind words and their exact meaning. Only Congress can declare War. War is a far cry from a use of force. A use of force is targeted bombing or small military operations. War is an all out action. For the President to have War Powers Act qualifications Congress must label and pass a Bill of War or Declaration of War. Congress passed a bill allowing for the use of force if all other avenues had been exhausted. This is not an all out Declaration of War. We are not legally at War with Iraq. As with Vietnam we are in a Police Action in Iraq, thus the wording used by Congress, ???use of force.??? Karl Rove seems to be hiding behind the public perception that a Use of Force is equal to War. He would not use the word, ???War,??? in the exchange with Alen Colms. Why? Because he knows that in reality, No Declaration of War has been passed by Congress concerning Iraq. Yes, Congress has approved a Police Action in Iraq, which is what ???Use of Force??? legally equates to. Rove, Bush, and the Administration has abused the limited power granted by Congress and re-interpreted, ???Use of Force??? and sold it to the American people as evidence of War Powers. This is word play, abuse of public perception, and the art of deception by definition. Rove claims to stand for moral high ground, strong American principles, and Law. Well he should realize that standing for Habeas Corpus is the Temple Mount of Moral High Ground.

Comment: If we were at war. There has not been any official declaration of war. James Baker and Warren Christopher should read the Constitution. Article 1, Section 8: Congress???s list of Responsibility: (Paraphrased): ???Provide for the common defence and general Welfare, regulate Commerce, coin money, Declare War, raise money to Arm and organize Armies, and to make Laws.??? They would notice the duties outlined of Congress and ???declaring war??? is left exclusively to the Congress. Baker believes that the just because the Constitution makes the president commander in chief. Yes the President is commander in chief of the military but this does not give him or her the power to ???declare war.??? The constitution never gives the President that power. Why, a little known concept called co-equal branches of government or the separation of powers. Once Congress ???declares war??? the President is the commander of how the military conducts that war. That is what a commander does, command, not declare. The War Powers Resolution of 1973 was put in place for a good reason. It is there to fortify what is already in the Constitution pertaining to Congress???s power to declare war. If Presidents continue to ignore the War Powers Act Congress should do its job and pass a law that forces the Presidents hand to obey the Law. Congress should act to hold Presidents accountable for ignoring the Constitution; rather than letting them off the hook. Getting rid of the War Powers Act would be giving in to Presidents who have no respect for the Rule of Law. Baker and Christopher should use some logic that includes the enforcement required to obey the Rule of Law, the Constitution. Just because people ignore a law is not a justification for throwing out the law. That is the art of giving in to those who break the law. ???Power makes men wanton???. It intoxicates the mind.??? Sam Adams, Boston Gazette, 1771

Comment: Logically McCain should be such "War Time President." More than 70% of all the soldiers either enlisted or recruited were Southerner from states south of Mason-Dixon Line. Arizona's is south of M. D. Line and part of the Great Southwest. All through history regardless of whether it is world history or American history, soldiers were led by and fight with the neighbors and friends. Their morals will certainly be heighten that way.

Comment: The American President is absolutely right in calling himself a "war president". After all, his middle name is War - George War Bush! (in James Bond 007 style!)

Comment: Wisconsin's unique landmarks once again find themselves in the pages of the latest novel to be presented to readers of history, thrillers and religion in a work that combines all three genres into an adventurous global conspiracy.

The Epoch Point, just released on May 1 and written by Wisconsin native Spencer Zimmerman, is a fictional novel that includes historical facts, certain to intrigue history buffs who are interested in history from the local to the international level, especially as that history thrillingly plays out into what Zimmerman describes as a worldwide "conflict between God and the devil, good and evil."

According to the book's synopsis, the lead character, Robert Davis, is "a young Airman fresh out of Air Force basic training," reflective of Zimmerman's own recent service in the Air Force. "After being held captive in China, (Davis) suddenly finds himself unraveling the most immense conspiracy in history...soon uncovering hidden facts suggesting Russian and Iraqi involvement...discovering the diary of Lee Harvey Oswald...As the clues surface, an evil emerges powerful enough to rewrite the entire history of humanity...before long the conspiracy takes on a supernatural form, marked by [natural disasters] and the wrath of God...Nothing [prepares] (Davis) for the final suspenseful twist the story takes, a da Vinci style revelation that reaffirms his belief in Christ."

Zimmerman, having lived in several locations around Wisconsin, including near Lake Mills and Watertown, incorporated Wisconsin locations and history into his novel, among them a Viking cathedral on Washington Island and the events surrounding Wisconsin Senator Joseph McCarthy. Also mentioned is a small village outside of Burlington, Wisconsin, founded by a Mormon religious leader who proclaimed himself king, the only monarchy to ever occur in the forty-eight continental states in American history. Among the other Wisconsin landmarks in The Epoch Point, and most notably, the famous national landmark Aztalan is discussed at length.

  • Posted By: The_epoch_point @ 07/05/2008 10:09:46 PM

Comment: Zimmerman's discussion of Aztalan in his book in part follows what Zimmerman calls the "darker" side of Aztalan, including its cannibalism and religious practices, and the instantaneous disappearance of its thriving population. Zimmerman's writing also seeks to make connections between Aztalan's existence with that of the Minoan civilization from Ancient Greece and Zoroastrian culture of the Middle East. All three peoples had similar beliefs, worshipped fire (one of Aztalan's mounds is believed to have been the abode of an "eternal" flame) and practiced human sacrifice and cannibalism.

Zimmerman noted all of these "obscure (historical) connections," which ultimately inspired him to take the connections and formulate them into an adventurous plot. Writing his book took roughly two years.

The book's chapters are titled after the sixty-six books of the Bible, and the plot progresses as Davis reads through each chapter of the Bible, opening the Bible for the first time in chapter one of The Epoch Point. Each chapter follows a "flashback" style in structure, in which the book's characters experience revelations of historical events and experiences from 4000 B.C. to the present, which allow them to observe how those events contributed to the global conspiracy they are presently confronting. Zimmerman states that the book's events begin on New Year's Eve of 2000, and end on Christmas of 2006.

While writing novels remains at present a hobby for Zimmerman, he already has ideas for a second novel that he anticipates will follow a more scientific fiction path. The Epoch Point is currently available through Amazon.com, and Zimmerman is hoping to get copies of the book into some of Lake Mills's downtown novelty shops.

Comment: Barack Obama had the right as a U.S. Senator to go to look at Iraq. He did not. Then, one of his big vote getters was a promise to get us the hell out of Iraq. Now, nominated, he plans to go to Iraq to see if he needs to change his mind. I voted for him principally because he promised to get us the hell out of there. If he goes there and comes back to endorse staying there, then I reserve the right to flush my Obama vote down the toilet.

Comment: This section of DiscoverTheNetworks examines Barack Obama's connections to a number of key individuals and organizations. In some cases, these affiliates are notable for the leftist views and objectives they share with Obama. In other cases, they are notable for their collaboration with Obama in controversial or unethical activities. In all cases, they offer a window into Barack Obama's values and priorities. Taken as a whole, they verify Thomas Sowell's observation that Obama has "spent decades aiding and abetting people who hate America."

Comment: We should go after Iran and anyone else that wishes to do us harm you people of the u.s. that think for one second that Iran wants to be friends or allies are sadly mistaken. Let me clear one thing up the people of Iran really don???t care about the u.s. other than trading they like the western apparel blue jeans etc. but the leaders of iran well that???s a different story they dispise us. They would rather see us dead than anything else! If the president of Iran had his way he would give all the countries fortunes to eliminate the United States and Israel! They believe that we are infidels and should be killed in accordance with Islamic law! You can say what you want about bush hell I have problems with some of his misgivings but two wrongs don???t make it right your very own barrack Hussein obama said that if needed we would go into Pakistan or Iran if he felt that they would harbor bin laden now bush well he has done some things that have left a bad taste in the peoples mouths and I don???t like it either but its all done now no turning back we can???t back down now nit would only lead to more attacks on our soil! So the real question is do we need a wartime president ? Well that is easy enough answered! Yes of course we do??? we need a president that will go to war anytime our country is threatened you can say what you want about Israel but they don???t take bombings or terrorist lightly they act and it has kept them from being destroyed this long with a little help from the u.s. just yesterday a terrorist got into a front end loader and drove through the streets killing people babies and all well the people of israel did what every american would do and that is stop him at all costs thay shot him dead right there and in my opinion he deserved it !! now some of you would have him pulled out and brought to trial and put him in prison well that to me is bull *** he did it they saw him doing it and thats that !

Comment: Why did the US military cancel a news conference where they were going to display the "Iranian" weapons they found in Iraq? Because there WERE NO IRANIAN WEAPONS to display. Here are links supporting the fact that the weapons found in Iraq did not come from Iran:

    http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/archives/individual/2008_05/013695.php
    http://www.americanprogress.org/issues/2008/05/fire_next_time.html
    http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/babylonbeyond/2008/05/iraq-the-elusiv.html

NOT TO MENTION that the Untied States itself has had a notable role in arming the insurgency. When the US dissolved the Iraqi Army, that flooded Iraq with weapons. More recently the Pentagon admitted that it had lost track of a third of the weapons distributed to Iraqi security forces in 2004-05, totaling 190,000 assault rifles and pistols that are currently on the streets of Iraq. The British paper that published this article got it's information straight from the US Government Accounting Office's public website:
    http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/pentagon-admits-190000-weapons-missing-in-iraq-460551.html

Ask yourself, why would America want to pretend that Iran is pushing weapons in Iraq, when actually WE (the USA) has flooded Iraq's streets with weapons? Because Bush wants to declare war on Iran, and just like the fake "WMDs" in Iraq, he needs something to frighten Americans, so he comes out with this BS about Iran killing US soldiers in Iraq. He has also said that Iran is making nuclear weapons, but recent inspections have found NO EVIDENCE of nuclear weapons in Iran. JUST LIKE how repeated inspections found NO EVIDENCE of WMDs in Iraq. The reports of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the UN inspectors and nuclear experts at the Institute for Strategic and International Studies (ISIS) all agree that Iran DOES NOT have nuclear weapons. The IAEA report states that Iran only has "low enriched uranium, not the highly-enriched uranium necessary to produce a bomb." The ISIS reports states "It is important to note that they do not encompass the full scope of work required for a comprehensive nuclear weapons program. Missing is theoretical work on nuclear weapons, uranium metallurgy, and the development of a neutron initiator." http://www.yirmeyahureview.com/articles/2008/iaea_report_on_iran.htm#_ftn9

In case you think the idea that Bush wants to bomb Iran is reactionary, you should know that John Bolton, former US Ambassador to the UN, recently told FoxNews that he can "definitely envision Bush bombing Iran before he leaves office." By bombing Iran, Bush makes it more likely McCain will be elected. But can the US Treasury, can the US economy stand more war? Even if we could afford it, we don't have the manpower in uniform. You know what that means: draft and conscription. Vote for McCain. Watch your children come home in body bags. Watch America go into a Great Depression.

In fact, a good close look at Iran, which is controlled by radical right wing Muslims, should remind any American of why we don't want OUR country to be controlled by radical right wing Christians. Separation of church and state is a beautiful thing.

Oh, and, just for the record, Iran is not our enemy. We are not at war with Iran at this time. Save that rhetoric for later, you're going to need it to justify the Bush-McCain circus.

Comment: Radical right Muslims and Radical right christians are not the same group. A nice tie in the media has been trying to create for years. The muslims don't even have a Right wing vs Left wing agenda in their system it is just a name painted on them by the left wing media to discredit right wing groups in the USA. It is no more similar than saying the Left wing americans should be kept from power because look what happened when the Nazi (socialist) party took over Germany in the 1930's.

Comment: Did you know McCain has had 4 different campaign managers? McCain just can't get it right. He keeps changing managers, as if it is their fault that he can not succeed. Fact is, McCain is NOT a good candidate.

After his first run at the Presidency when he got swift boated by Bush, his manager John Weaver got McCain to play "Maverick" and cross party lines to become a NeoLiberal. McCain almost changed parties and became a Democrat and Kerry's running mate, but at the 11th hour he switched horses again and hired Terry Nelson to manage him. Nelson is a strong GOP establishmentarianist, and got McCain to throw himself behind Bush, with promises of the GOP giving him the 2008 nomination. But Nelson didn't last, because the strategy failed. The right wing was suspicious of McCain because McCain voted against abortion, for gay rights and for gun control during his "maverick" phase. They didn't know if they could trust him. Also, Nelson spent money hand over fist, nearly bankrupting McCain's campaign. So he replaced him with Rick Davis, who was at the helm for the past year. Davis is a fiscal conservative, made McCain sell that expensive big bus, and made McCain mind his manners and act polite in public. But now, Davis has been fired too. Why? Because McCain is getting desperate, and the gloves are coming off. His new manager is Steve Schmidt, a Rove disciple and former Rove employee. McCain has also hired Nicole Wallace and Greg Jenkins to head his "Communications Team." Nic and Greg are also former Rove employees, masters of the art of swift boat smear campaigns. McCain going to let the Rove bulldogs off the leash. Look out, America, this is going to get ugly.

My prediction: the 20% of America that is made up of ignorant jingoists will be cheering to see Rove's bloody tactics. But you know what? They were all going to vote for McCain anyway. The rest of America will be so disgusted by the hatchet work of the NeoCons that they will vote AGAINST McCain.

The "last resort" tactic of the GOP to win this election will be to bomb Iran, starting another war. Mark my words, if McCain is not doing well in September, Bush will bomb Iran. He is already setting the stage for this, by saying that Iran has nuclear weapons, even thought inspections by the United Nations and the International Atomic Energy Agency have both found NO EVIDENCE of nuclear weapons. REMIND YOU OF ANYTHING? It's the fake "weapons of mass destruction" all over again. And did you know that on June 26, Bush, very quietly, declared a state of National Emergency? During a National Emergency the President can DECLARE WAR without waiting for the approval of Congress.

    http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2008/06/20080626-4.html

It is going to be a very bumpy ride, America, so hold on, and DON'T LET BUSH AND ROVE STEAL ANOTHER ELECTION. I wouldn't mind so much if they were good for the economy, but let's face it, they destroying America. I

Someone wante to make their homeland like paradize and some of them have desire to put their own people in to burning hell.

Here is live example, what had done by the leaders in Kenya,
what are leaders doing in Zimbabwe,Mugabe has become blood-succer of their own people.
having remaining long time in power he has more thirst and for this purpose has created hovoc and converted the state in to a buring hell.He is 84 but don't like to see the way to go up colourefull cermonies has become essential part of his imortal life.

On the other hand, see the activities of the president of Islamic Republic of Pakistan,he committed a crime uforgiveable, killed minor shildern including gilrls when they were citing quraan in the Mosque. Why he did so? for power, for money.he tooi action those wanted to impose Islamic system in the country.

    In this way,
single super power presiden, namely Bush is on the top list in this regard,No doubt,he has a tiltle of killing tens of thousand in iraq, and have a same number in Afghanistan.
he has changed the meanings of freedom fighter and terrorists by propoganda campiagn.

Fabricated jails were constructed on off shore Cuba, water boardings were also made with paingivening stalls for gaining confession.

    I am sure,
all detainees of Gauntama Bay would have hanged because the court,Millitary commission would never leave alive anyone undercustody.
they(detainees) would have already been declared directely involved in the 9/11 incident.

It can be said ,the abovementioned presidents are rightly called ,WAR PRESIDENTS>

Comment: What a biased and naive article. Your conclusion that we don't need a war-time president based on the fact that Al-Qaeda has been weakened is precariously dim-witted and naive at best. However, it's much more likely that it is dangerously arrogant. Underestimating the Al-Qaeda threat is what Bill Clinton did best and it is exactly the reason why we are having to deal with them so forcefully now. How easily we forget the lessons of history!

This article just sounds like it was written by the Obama campain. Oh, well. It's not like it's any different from the rest of the trash the media is force-feeding America right now.

Former Federal Reserve Chairman ALAN GREENSPAN, in his book The Age of Turbulence: Adventures in a New World: "I'm saddened that it is politically inconvenient to acknowledge what everyone knows: The Iraq war is largely about oil."

Democratic Senator JOHN TESTER: "We're still fighting a war in Iraq and people who are honest about it will admit we're there over oil." (Associated Press, Sept. 24, 2007)

General JOHN ABIZAID: retired commander of CENTCOM: "Of course it's about oil, we can't really deny that." (Speaking at Stanford University, Oct. 13, 2007)

Weapons of mass destruction? Freedom on the march? To kill Osama? Blah. Blech. It's oil, oil, oil. And Bush's right hand is dripping oil and his left hand is dripping blood. Just like yours, Bush voter.

Comment: In the case of this current "war," it seems strange that some would suggest we need a "war-time president," when all the known, hard evidence clearly shows that our leaders knew one h--l of a lot more about what were the coming atttacks of 9/11/01, and tried to hide the fact, until President Bush's Press Secretary at that time, Ari Fleicher, told a stunned White Houser Press Corps briefing that Osama bin Laden had indeed written a letter to President Bush telling Bush that he planned to hijac k " several airplanes and fly them into a uiliding or two in lower Manhattan and a military facility of some sort in northern Virginia, and that Bush should consider himself "warned." See, online, Michael Kinsleys' "The Hindsight Saga" for the text of that letter that Fliecher said Bush told him he "had read several days before 9/11/01.

Since the Bush Adminstiration apparently let 9/11 happen, did it benefit anyone? Only the big Texas oil corporations who sent Cheney's Halliburton to control the oil reserves!

Comment: Evil will oft evil mars", J R R Tolkien wrote. It is conceivable that Barack Obama, if elected, will destroy himself before he destroys the country. Hatred is a toxic diet even for someone with as strong a stomach as Obama. As he recalled in his 1995 autobiography, Dreams From My Father, Obama idealized the Kenyan economist who had married and dumped his mother, and was saddened to learn that Barack Hussein Obama, Sr, was a sullen, drunken polygamist. The elder Obama became a senior official of the government of Kenya after earning a PhD at Harvard. He was an abusive drunk and philanderer whose temper soured his career.

The senior Obama died in a 1982 car crash. Kenyan government officials in those days normally spent their nights drinking themselves stupid at the Pan-Afrique Hotel. Two or three of them would be found with their Mercedes wrapped around a palm tree every morning. During the 1970s I came to know a number of them, mostly British-educated hollow men dying inside of their own hypocrisy and corruption.

Both Obama and the American public should be very careful of what they wish for. As the horrible example of Obama's father shows, there is nothing worse for an embittered outsider manipulating the system from within than to achieve his goals - and nothing can be more terrible for the system. Even those who despise America for its blunders of the past few years should ask themselves whether the world will be a safer place if America retreats into a self-pitying shell.

    • Posted By: TheVigil @ 07/02/2008 5:27:13 PM

Comment: I shall not blame the son for the sins of the father, but it seems that at least in the mind of some people, the burden of sin should indeed pass from father to son. Passing the blame is unfair; the younger Obama has not repeated the sins of his father.

And I do not believe America is self-pitying; I believe it is economically wounded. Should we not take action to heal ourselves, the wounds may become serious.

      • Posted By: onepoker @ 07/02/2008 8:52:29 PM

Comment: vigil I agree with you that we can't hold Obama accountable for the actions of his father. As for America rather than self pity it suffers from self hate. No other nation on earth slashes at its own veins as often as America. Those of us who don't join in on the hate America montra are considered evil doers by those who constantly chant that America uses 25% of the worlds resources without any consideration for the fact that we pay for the resources with our dollars. Others of us cry about how unfair we are or that consumerism is ruining the world. let me tell you something people in grass huts don't have to buy coca cola they choose too and if they do we aren't forcing it on them.

Comment: Just as one talking point before I go...

True or false statement: "The Powell Doctrine was fully observed in the decision of the United States to go to war with Iraq." Discuss.

Comment: Another visit to Wikipedia, where it is revealed that the Powell Doctrine, based on the Weinberger Doctrine, was created by journalists, not Powell. Nevertheless - I believe we thought we were. as much as possible, taking into consideration Moltke's theory of war: *No battle plan survives first contact with the enemy.*

Comment: Well, you've given me two talking points.

        1. You need to understand the term. The name "Powell Doctrine" was created by journalists as a name for the doctrine, after the office it came from. It's a real military doctrine with eight points, which are described in the article you mentioned. I'll go into it more if you read up.

        2. I'm not familiar with military history especially. But you've got me a bit interested. I will read Moltke; the Wikipedia article for "Powell Doctrine" mentions Carl von Clausewitz as a predecessor to the Powell Doctrine principles. Perhaps we can discuss this further after more reading.

Comment: So...after reading about Moltke a bit, it seems his warfare was the warfare of empire. The wars that created the German Empire did not lead to a lasting peace; I have to wonder if that was due to his theories of military precedence over civilian affairs. It seems he rejected Clausewitz' arguments that overall strategic planning was a wartime as well as peacetime necessity. I truly wonder whether or not that kind of thinking is shaping our domestic difficulties now...so I would reject Moltke's theories of war as you have stated them.

Comment: Please define "lasting peace." I fear I may be entering another semantic black hole.
"Empire" is another one of those over/under-defined terms, and the more it gets bandied about the more I must try to divine meaning from context. The US, by virtue of its military and economic strength and the ideals expressed in its fundamental documents, has a significant sphere of influence, but does this make it an empire? There is no emperor (naked or otherwise), there are no colonies, and the extent
