The Voters of Appalachia …

This article is so typical of the stupid, arrogant, and bigoted buffons who write for Newsweek. Has it ever occurred to the liberal elitists that we do not want to go down the same road that Jimmy Carter led us down? An Obama Presidency would be "Jimmy Carter Revisited." Obama is more or less Jimmy Carter all over again. In 1976, the elitists in the news media blamed all Republicans for Watergate. Since they felt that Nixon was bad then all Republicans were bad. Jimmy Carter came out of nowhwhere. He sounded good, but he ran on no substance. Obama sounds good uttering "change" ad nauseam at all of his pep rallies, but he is running on no substance. NOTHING. People swallow this up as if they were Hoover Vacuum Cleaners. Obama's worshipers want to make independent thinkers who don't follow Obama blindly into bumpkins and bigots. If anything I hope that all of this Obama garbage backfires on Newsweek and their pathetic friends on MSNBC. Wake up people, don't let Newsweel tell you what to think. Send a message in November and don't vote for Obama. If Obama loses maybe these ignorant talking heads will realize that they helped to defeat Obama by continuing to cram his empty campaign down our throats.

I come from a small town (well, it was back then) called Cookeville in Tennessee. I've also lived in a few other places where the word Hillbilly was not utterly misused.

Of course people make fun of those people. They ARE different. People from these rural appalachian areas are not stupid, but a huge percentage of them ARE ignorant and choose to stay that way. (don't know, and don't care to find out either)

Meanwhile there are great public universities EVERYWHERE, and all of these "poor" people do qualify for pell grants and student loans just like everybody else. Too many of them simply put little stock in "book learning". And that's a culture thing.

Either be honest and admit that you're "making excuses" for them based on their environment and upbringing, just like the excuses people make for "ghetto kids gone bad" and for the same reasons..and that those people are neither better , nor worse than their Southside Chicago banger counterparts.

Or admit that they choose to stay there, they choose to live like that. They don't want to have to face the fact that with each successive generation that fails to complete school they ARE becoming more isolated, more ignorant, and more irrelevant to modern society.

Mr. Author, you have a "mighty fine voice", and a pretty big platform. Why don't you help them change those things about their culture that are keeping them in poverty?

You know why..because they're stubborn as a Missouri mule, and they'll demand "respect" from you and everyone else for their "traditions" and "life-style", even though it merely props up and solidifies all the forces that keep them "down".

W. Virginia is a beautiful place, but unless the culture there changes drastically and soon..the only way it'll "modernise" is when people like me, who got out, stayed out, and made something of my life go back there with cash in hand..and turn it into a place WE want to retire to.

And then it'll be the "sad, sweet, song of the south" all over again..those poor simple people, run out by the rich, the foreigners, the carpetbaggers. They are becoming the new "noble savages" of our time.

Wouldn't they rather be successful, working Americans??

The appeal of the Obama campaign is its meekness and humulity.. humble enough to ask all Americans for support, not reliant on old sytems and structures that have failed Amercia... the Appalachian American, the Black American, the Native American have been poor and ignored for 200 years, that is the reality of American political history - that's the common ground bringing Americans together... the well educated and previllaged Americans are also turning away from the status quo, because they too recognise that there is a lot that is wrong with American politics... a lot that has gone astray from the path set out by the founding fathers of America... moreover they understand the increasing importance of real democracy to business and economic prosperity...

The realisation that the Appalachian Ameican has been poor for 200 years, proves that there is no grand racist conspiracy, it proves that even if you are white, black or blue, if you were not considered economically mobile you were forgotten and left on the scrap heap... I believe that both white and black Americans are now realising this, especially as people from these groups become more educated... Appalachia can no longer be appeased by the notion that they are racially superior, when the reality is that they have been bottom of the economic ladder along with blacks for 200 years; blacks no longer believe that they are inferior, they have seen that power comes from organising and focusing their power of consumption... all Americans realise that history has been all about economics, nobody has really cared untill you showed them your money... a new politics is needed to ensure that everyone is enlightened and empowered to deliver what they can for their country and for their families, no matter who they are... because nothing else matters...

So, I am convinced that Americans will vote for Obama... that is the map to victory... no one who is honest about modern America will do otherwise... he is the only candidate who has ever presented truth and enlightenment to the people... he has not stood up for race or money, he stands only for principle... and deep down inside we all know this!!!!

I was born and raised in WV and left as soon as I graduated from HS in 1984. WV has been predominately democrat and continues to elect the same ole democrats into office. Democrats have done nothing for WV and it shows by WV being at the bottom on of every list, ie poverty, income, education etc. I pray that the state I love will open their eyes along with the rest of this country and vote out these democrats; the same democrats led by the ms. speaker of the house who stated four years age that now that the democrats are in control of congress things are going to change. She was right, things have changed for the worse. The American people are going to have to open their eyes and quit being decieved and vote out these democrats that are determined to lead this country down the tube.

the kool-aid recipe is the reason you should not vote for him it sums up his reasons for running and if you think he's qualified to be president then you have been slipped a micky so to speak someone slipped you some obama kool-aid check his record his votes but most important check his agenda and ask your self is this who i want to run the country ! think about his tax plan think about his willing to give free health care to 15 million illeagles think about his forgien policy or lack there of think about all his plans and if you feel like he's the one take some ipecac syrup because you've ingested his kool-aid then go vote for someone who will get this country back on track i prefer the John McCain/ Mitt Romney ticket hopfully thats who will win the election in november if Obama gets it we are gonna have a hard row to hoe !!

Combine two parts black liberation theology clerics spewing intolerance! With two parts of unrepentant intellectuals committed to the destruction of America. Stir in one cup of militant black wife harboring the overwhelming desire to stick it to whitey and one spoonful of typical white person grandmother mix well. Pour a gallon of anti-patriotism into tall glasses and sprinkle with naïve foreign policy ideations. Serve on a platter of meaningless oratorical hyperbole with a generous dollop of wealth re-distribution. Sprinkle liberally with zest of white guilt flip it and flop it till it tastes right.top it off with a ounce of anti-semitism and Serve large portions to the undiscerning and spellbound masses convinced that the Second Coming is upon America and now you have a complete recipe for disaster!

Comment: Barack Obama had the right as a U.S. Senator to go to look at Iraq. He did not. Then, one of his big vote getters was a promise to get us the hell out of Iraq. Now, nominated, he plans to go to Iraq to see if he needs to change his mind. I voted for him principally because he promised to get us the hell out of there. If he goes there and comes back to endorse staying there, then I reserve the right to flush my Obama vote down the toilet.
