By August the north pole will no longer be covered by ice. Yes, that is the projection if the present melt rate continues to August. This has never happened in thousands of years. Global warming is undeniable. Dramatic climate change is already upon us based on weather events that have happened in the last couple of decades. Is man to blame? The vast majority of scientists think so. All I know is that I can stand on my daughter's front porch on the Palos Verdes Peninsula overlooking L.A. and look down on the thick brown layer of man made cardon polution that poisons the air in Los Angeles. That is going on all over the globe.
Only fools continue to try to discredit the idea of climate change. Practical people want to do something about it whether man is excllusively to blame or not. We don't have to polute the planet. We can do better, and we must for the sake of our health, the health and the well being of future generations of our children and their children, and the well being of every creature and ecosystem on earth. Why would anyone not want to do that? It is just short term greed. Certain business interests want to put off the inevitable as long as they can. But anyone who thinks that advancing green technology is too expensive is a fool. Not only will it be a boon to the world's economy, but if we fail to advance the damages and disruption caused by climate change will be disasterously expensive.

One million years or even 10 years ago were very different from now. Please look at your pictures in family album and look at yourself in the mirror. See any difference? Unfortunately we can't turn clock back. Global warming or not we've been damaging our Earth enough since industrial revolution 250 years ago in England.

sixhandicap...while trading food for oil is not a new concept...thanks for bringing it up. We need oil, they need food. What could be simpler??

I completely disagree with almost every aspect of this story. i have relatives who actually live near Iowa city and know of the person effort they expended to sandbag and attempt to prevent the flooding that slammed into the University of Iowa for Sharon Begley to use that trajedy to further the cause of global warming is beyond annoying ii is obscene.

What a Crock! Go ahead and spin everything so America looks like the bad guy. Most of your so called Scientists wouldn't know a meteorological event if it bit them on the nose. What are you going to do when the seas don't rise and Indiana does not become a "Coastal State"?

Let's go back to 1975 when the next great ice age was upon us and ponder for a moment just how badly we over corrected! Seriously, do a web search for global warming on Mars, then ask, how smart are we really? Al Gore was proven wrong, Bill Nye the science guy is a perfect example of how indoctrination techniques are replacing teaching. Please let us have real science, and common sense instead of half truths, lies, and spin.

Interview with John Coleman, Founder of the Weather Channel

Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to answer a few questions.

Q: One of your greatest accomplishments was founding the Weather Channel. What was the original purpose of the Weather Channel?

A: To provide up to the minute current and predicted weather information to TV viewers in every part of the Untied States, including timely warnings of severe weather. It was an ambitious mission, but we planned our program content so that some aspect of the current or short term forecast weather was on the screen at all times except for commercial breaks which were restricted to one minute.

Our weather maps were very detailed with precipitation plotted like radar echoes, isobars and fronts.


Q: How has the Weather strayed from your vision?

A: Style and storm pictures seem to be the current primary mission of the TWC. The weathermaps have been simplified. There are now long periods inwhich no current or short term forecat information is presented. Routine weather is no longer "good enough" for TWC.
And, the mission has been confused by the inclusion of traffic information. Traffic reports on TV have never made any sense to me and confusing the mission of TWC to be the TW and T C is a bad move.


Q: Dr. Heidi Cullen, "Climate Expert" at the Weather Channel has called for any meteorologist that disagrees with the hypothesis of anthropogenic climate change should have their AMS certification revoked. What is your response to this sort of nonsense?

A: TWC and its Climate Expert are free to do and say and take whatever positions they wish. That's free speach.

I think she and TWC are dead wrong.


Q: Many of claimed a "consensus" of scientists agree that this period of climate change is man made. Do you believe this "consensus" actually exists?

A: There is no consensus. And, if there were, so what. Consensus is not what science is about. I think the global warming establishment is wrong. There are more and more scientists who dropping out of the "consensus". The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change have been in exsistance for 19 years. It has promoted Global Warming with all its force. Where is the Global Warming?


Q: Many scientists have illuded to being skeptical of anthropogenic climate change, yet many are reluctant to be forthcoming and say they don???t believe that climate change is man made. In your opinion, why is this?

A: Our civilization is powered by fossil fuel. This has significantly increased the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmospshere. Carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas. The debate rages about the extend to which this alters our climate. As best I can tell, very little.

There's an awful lot of "maybe's, might-be's, and could be's" in this theory. It sounds like a lot of hypothesizing. Not enough proof to legislate a global policy that, from worldwide proof, only a few nations will adhere to and foot the bill, while other developing nations will churn out exponentially more greenhouse gases than the abiding nations, while merely giving lip service to the notion. I don't buy it.

Interesting isn't it? Al Gore's "carbon-footprint". Since newsweek only presents half the facts, I may a suggest people read the following article as well;

Here's some quotes for you leftist lemmings;

"But according to public records, there is no evidence that Gore has signed up to use green energy in either of his large residences. When contacted Wednesday, Gore's office confirmed as much but said the Gores were looking into making the switch at both homes. Talk about inconvenient truths".

Oh it get's better still. Hey, Newsweek are you reading this?
"Gore has held these apocalyptic views about the environment for some time. So why, then, didn't Gore dump his family's large stock holdings in Occidental (Oxy) Petroleum? As executor of his family's trust, over the years Gore has controlled hundreds of thousands of dollars in Oxy stock. Oxy has been mired in controversy over oil drilling in ecologically sensitive areas".

Of course Newsweek fails to report any of these things. Hmmmm?.

You doomsday preachers need to report only the facts. Most of the scientists you quote can't even spell meteorological event let alone predict one. What are all the Chicken Littles out there going to blame America for when the seas don't rise and make Indiana a coastal state. Report only the "Proven Facts" and quit spinning part truths to make America look like the "air polluting bad guys" that we are NOT!

This article is so bias and predictable it worries me if Sharon is coming to get my car. It is so big brother is watching and don't you dare challenge our editorial board who want to scare the daylights out of everybody that the earth will soon be engulfed by the flames of the sun and life will cease to exist. I am happy that some reasonable people are standing up to these idiots who have run our energy program for thirty years and know one thing sue, sue, sue over every applications for a piptline, every attempt to develop our own energy, every windmill, every nuclear power application. The biggest jerks in our country are the house and senate members who believe these global warming clowns who are destroying our economy. The stock market is collapsing because of global warming, gas is $4.50 a gallon because of global warming. Al Gore is one of the biggest liars in the history of the US>

"liberal-tax-everything-big-government agendas"? Ummm... we have a higher debt and a bigger government. now under the conservative Bush administration -- the one that doesn't believe in global warming -- that we've ever had. But back to the main topic: skeptics like you are cherrypicking evidence to the contrary out of an overwhelming preponderance of information that virtually proves the reality of global warming. You're doing it to support your political agenda, rather than a believe in science.
