It is difficult to take your comments seriously when you state "random movements of air masses, unlucky confluences of high- and low-pressure systems". There is nothing random about air movements and bad luck doesn't cause bad weather. Simple laws of physics do. Yes, there is global warming. How much of it did we cause? No one really knows and it doesn't help to throw good money at bad science.

What people are not talking about in the whole global warming debate is the Sun. The corona of the Sun has been expanding over the past several decades. So not only the Earth but the other planets as well are warming, no humans there. This is all a cycle that the Earth goes through every thousand years or so.
This does not mean that we should not be good stewards of our planet and all of its resources. We need to keep the planet clean and green for future generations to enjoy.
The left has taken this theory and run with it to scare the whole world into believing that we are all going to die. Hardly the case, take northern Sweden during the midievel warming period. Temperatures were so warm that they acually grew hazelnuts in an area that is now covered in ice and snow today.

Wow... all these great minds and has anyone been able to rise to the level of Sharon Begley writing for Newsweek? I'm thinking you wouldn't have the time to be writing these venonous, politically motivated posts if you were high profile, respected authors and wealthy entrepreneurs.

So if you don't mind that cancer is now the leading cause of death in children and asthma is up over 160% in recent years - keep bitterly protesting industry is doing nothing wrong and it's just those communists trying to take over the world again.

Personally, I want my grandchildren to know I tried to do something and stood up to the hatemongers that are so self absorbed - they wouldn't do something for their community or the neighbor next door if their life depended on it.

I already told you, Sharon Begley is a left-wing activist. You need to put down the bong and try and concentrate

This is an extreme article by a global warming alarmist. The universities dole out the research money for those who will promote the theory and modeling of global warming and do what they can to marginalize those who do not believe. It is a liberal democratic party position that we have to change our whole economy so they can take over many aspects of our lives. The truth is India and China are putting much more carbon emissions into the atmosphere. This is why Newsweek has become a propaganda source. I know many scientists who believe the premise and conclusions of those who advocate global warming are not considering nature and natural happenings. This article is pure trash. Sharon has earned her stripes and should be given a speaking assignment at the Democratic National Convention right after Al Gore.

    I have an idea.....

OPEC is charging us $141.00 for a barrel of oil (I know you eco-whaccos love it) and we charge them $7.00 for a bushel of grain.

Let's charge them $141.00 for a bushel of grain and when they complain that they can't afford it - we tell them "then eat your oil".

Climatologists and other scientists involved in studying global weather have not determined that Global Warming as a man-made event is the true cause of any of the weather we are currently seeing. Most credible scientists know they do not currently have the data to back up such claims. Many are advising caution about human behavior and its "possible" impact, which is not a bad idea. I'm all for a little caution with our behavior. However, I am more than a little tired of journalists blowing up one single piece of data or finding one comment from some scientist somewhere that supports a theory that man-made global warming is responsible for all the terrible weather we are seeing.
There are certainly a lot of humans and we have eroded land, erected homes in flood plains, farmed in areas with crops that are not appropriate to the soil and existing weather conditions, built huge dams and levees that change water flow patterns, erected highways that ruin run-off areas, erected more homes than ever in normally hurricane, mudslide, fire and tornado prone zones, have contributed to soil degradation that causes more mudslides, etc, etc. I think you see where I'm going with that argument. Perhaps the damage we are complaining about in regards to the terrible weather we are seeing does in fact have much to do with our own human behavior, but may well be less attributable to man-made global warming than we think. This jury member is still out deliberating man-made global warming. When I see more reliable data coming from more scientists (and certainly less reliance on corollary evidence alone) I will take that into consideration.

For of the left-wing eco-radicals - hundreds of scientist have come out this past year and debunked the so-called, man-made global warming lies.

Global warming is a NATURAL EARTH CYCLE. It has happened many times before there even was humans and it will continue to happen.

    Get over it!

I have looked into this and asked, where is the base line that you use in this. I looked at Mars the only other planet in our system with ice caps and what do you know the ice caps on Mars are getting smaller too and there are no people living there. What do these Planets have in common they orbit the same sun. Maybe we should look there first before we place blame on us. We live on a planet that we know has been completely covered with ice and has been warmed to the point that plants grew at the south pole. That a major ice age that lasted more than two million years ended just twenty are so thousand years ago. We know so little about the ture cycles of this planet, yet we let someone scare us as if we like the flees on a dog are really in control.

Ok, let's suppose for a minute that man has nothing to do with the observed global climate changes. Let's say the observed increasing (measurable) temperatures changes have nothing with man made CO2. The reality is that one can measure increasing temperatures, it only takes an instrument called a thermometer, one that has been in use for centuries. Now, lets assume for just a moment that there might be a link, between global industrialization, increasing temperatures, and increasing CO2. Might it not be wise to, albeit prudent to slow the production of CO2? If it turns out there is not link we still get better air to breath, less deforestation, fewer gas guzzlers etc. If there is a link, our great grandchildren will be grateful......................

Global Warming Is a Cause of This Year???s Extreme Weather

    Answer: True

    Your Answer: BS!

The actual truth about global warming is that the sun's corona has expanded over 16%. Therefore all the planets are getting hotter, not just Earth. Yes, it is true that the Earth was warmer in years past, the medevel warming period is proof of that, a time when they were growing hazelnuts in northern Sweden, an aerea that is now covered in ice and snow.
However we can't use this evidence to say that man is not having an impact on the environment. We need to do our part to keep the planet clean for future generations, I don't think that anyone would argue with that.
To use the theory of global warming to further one's political agenda is wrong. It is just a theory, a very poor theory but it can be used to scare the wits out of people and cause widespread panic. What have to be considered is that they have labeled carbon dioxide a pollutant. We exhale carbon dioxide. Does this mean that when people get to old or invalid to be useful to the global community that they will be disposed of to cut down on greenhouse gases? Think about it.

It is kind of a hoot reading the thread here and seeing the comments of the Don't Acknowledge Scientific Evidence crowd. So, all y'all that still think global warming is a hoax: do you also believe theory of evolution is a sinister plot designed to separate Christians from their faith? How about the "theory" of thermodynamics - also just a "theory". All of these opinions are long on polemics and short on actual scientific thought, which makes them highly entertaining, in a macabre sort of way.

    • Posted By: mbuzdor @ 06/30/2008 10:56:12 AM

Look up the definition of the word "Theory." It means that it either can't or has not been proven. Until someone PROVES it; yes, I'm denying global warming is true

    • Posted By: pbpace @ 06/30/2008 9:09:37 AM

Human Induced Climate Change (HICC) may be a reality..I plead agnosticism. However, to place (HICC) in the same category as the LAW of Thermondynamics or Evolution is absurd. You're putting forth your own polemic as valid apologetic discourse. Your analogy is misleading.

    • Posted By: qdrop @ 06/30/2008 8:18:28 AM

Ah, brilliant...compare those skeptical about MAN-MADE global warming to evolution deniers. Fantastic.
Why not "Moon Landing" deniers too, while you're at it? Heck, go for broke and call us Holocaust deniers, it' all been done.
You can skirt the issue all you want with over-the-top insults and out-of-line comparisons, but the fact is the science is NOT final, much of it does NOT support or even SUGGEST man's contribution to any global warming. The debate continues.

Global Warming? Yes, but only to a certain point. As long as the earth has the ability to shield certain portions of itself from the sun then those areas will stay cold.

Man Made? Yes, but indirectly. Man has caused the Earth to become unbalanced and this has set off a chain of events that will continue to affect the Earth until it is rectified. The wobbling of the Earth and the shifting Poles will allow the sun to melt ice not normally exposed to the sun for long periods of time to remain exposed, thus not allowing it to refreeze resulting in a warmer climate.

How has man caused the Earth to become unbalanced? Man has populated and built massive cities in areas without regard to the effects it has on a rotating mass.

Can the Earth become balanced again? Yes, The Earth's crust is at this very moment giving way to the centrifugal force and breaking apart at its fault lines.

Example: Place liquid in a hollow ball, spin on an axes.
Result: Fluid inside the ball will spread out evenly until the ball is perfectly balanced.

Historic Example: Earth was once hot and liquid; as the Earth cooled the outer crust hardened into a semi-balanced state and continued to take the shape we know today.

Everyday Example: Remove the lead weights from the rims used to balance your car tires, drive your car at the speeds you normally drive.
Result: The centrifugal force of your rotating tires will wobble violently until eventually your tires will fall apart or the balls joint holding your tires will break.

How long will it take for the Earth to realign? According to scientists it initially took millions of years.

Can we wait for millions of years? Sure, if we want to continually suffer the effects of the Earth trying to balance itself out.

Can man speed up the process? Yes, Man could do the math and get the Earth back on track.

Will man do this? No, Man will continue to blame this on nature using historical data. Also those in position of power and authority will never have the will power to take the hard road to rebalancing the Earth, too much rearranging involved.

The physics of the planet will continue to do its thing until it is satisfied. Enjoy!

wstephenjackson stated it well. MCHieco's response doesn't surprise me. I'll bet he/she doesn't have any education on the matter other than the news he/she reads or hears. Everyone is an expert now because they read something....I'm tiring of hearing how terrible everything in the news. I am extremely skeptical of reporting today, as there is no money in reporting the good news and the media wouldn't dare slit their throats to share any differing opinions on the subject.

Global warming is a cash cow for all.

In Noah's day people lived " normally " and laughed at Noah. But nowadays there are over 6 billion of people living in this world. A lot of us are abusing natural resources and man made wastes are way out of control.

There is no solid, scientific evidence of weather changes being csused by global warming. We are led to believe that the PC term for global warming is climate change. Wow. abouyt 40 years ago, the clamor over global cooling was the rage. Didn't happen. Somehow, Al Gore and his ilk, came on the scene. He does not have real credibility in many corners: Invention of the internet, castigating smoking when his family fortunes were alledgedly from raising tobacco on his daddy's farms, other rants that anyone who does not follow in lock step his thoughts on global warming still believe the earth is flat is all character assassination. He cannot debate the facts, only assign negatives to his opponents. There are climatologists who disagree with warming being the cause of man's ills who are never heard in the media. A funny thing happened on the way to a global warming meeting last year: It got cancelled due to a severe snow storm which blew cold in the New England area.

Yikes!!! The sky is falling...in the 70's when i was in college the chicken littles were predicting a new ice age, it wasnt embraced by the media so it came and went and no one chooses to remember that these same fear mongers were so wron 30 years ago that they would most certianly be dismissed for what they are if only we were not so short sighted. Hmmm was the climate that sustained giant reptiles man made or was it the more natural state for the planet...or was the ice age the more natural...what about the global cooling in the middle ages???? Your lack of knowledge is stunning and you willingness to use the ignorance of the majority of the population for political gain is shameful. Please do some study of the facts of history, chicken little was wrong, who do you think they were writing the story about. If this comes and goes (and it probably will) the next generation of CLs will find another thing to worry about and blame on the human race.

Some Cimatologists will scream global warming and the majority will say its all in a summers event. Sharon needs to get out of her cubical a look at the world from a different view point. This has happen before and will continue. We used to blame it on God and now, since we don't believe in him we blame it on global warming. Man has created enough problems with the building of dams on every little creek and river to create a lake so developers can get rich selling lakefront property. Was the dust bowl caused by global warming--NO!. If it were to happen today global warming would be the cause. It all comes down to the selling of magazines and papers. Global warming is a hot issue and it sells. If not then it would not be a issue. Climatologists cannot predict the weather a week in advance with any accuracy let alone predict global warming. There is plenty of evidence that points the other way but we cannot print that since it does not sell. We need doomsday predictions. That always sells.
