Simple solution - Release the ones they've rounded up back onto the ranges and let nature take it's course. As is the case with any wild herds, when they can't sustain themselves the weakest will die (predators or weather). Of course, the PETA types would then scream that we must intervene to prevent nature from having its way. - - - Just thought of another option, since the Libs are against drilling for more oil - and put all their hopes in far-off alternative energy solutions - many of those horses could be used for Obama's new slogan: "A chicken in every pot and a horse and buggy in every garage!"

Why not euthanize all the MS13 & other gang members and thugs taking up space in our prisons. Then there would be plenty of room for the Mustangs

Yeah really, why not? Wild horses and donkeys at least make some contribution (massive piles of poop). Gang members contribute NOTHING>

will we not be content until we have destroyed all life. Geez what's wrong with the government. And I completely agree with mary4cats, stop supporting the world, concentrate on our own. ENOUGH ALREADY

Ummm...I don't think America's wild horses survived the Ice Age...unless we've had an Ice Age in the past 500 years that I wasn't aware of...might want to check your facts, Mr. Dokoupil. America's wild horses are not indigenous--they are the descendants of horses that came over with the Conquistadors in the 1500's.

Does anyone have any idea of how many kids in the world would love to own a horse? Why not find out & let them have one. There won't be enough horses, of course! Just make sure they have good homes. A lot of people don't know these horses in the wild are available. They are a part of our American Heritage, too!

  • Posted By: smgouch@earthlink.net @ 07/02/2008 3:21:29 PM

The wild horses need to be returned to the range. I live in the West and I can't image not seeing the herds. The adoption policies are too strict and more horses could be placed with families who would care for them.Bush needs to quit messing with things that he has no right to stictk his fingers in. This whole thing makes me burn.

  • Posted By: gmoonlite @ 07/02/2008 3:20:51 PM

Why don't they try neutering them. Not all of them of course. They could then rerelease them back into the wild to live out their lives. Eventually their population numbers should drop. And it would much cheaper then supporting them for the rest of their lives.

Amazing.. simply amazing. That's what the far left has. THAT.. a raging ignorant hypocrite that compares HUMANS to animals. Sick. Totally sickening.

What is wrong with our government???? Have they gone totally and completely heartless???? Horses are one of GOD'S CREATURES also and the thought of throwing them away like yesterday's garbage makes me sick to my stomach. I agree with ALL of the previous comments.....leave the Mustangs alone. If funding is the problem........my suggestion - QUIT SUPPORTING ALL OF THE ILLEGAL ALIENS. That should save more than enough to help the beautiful Mustangs........ Mr. Bush and his administration only worry about THEIR POCKETS AND NOTHING ELSE. To euthanize these creatures who have done nothing to deserve it is totally disgraceful.......I know of a few thousand people that need to be euthanized......starting with some of our high paid elected officials!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have adoped mustangs from BLM for 6 years. I feel that the mustangs are being plucked off the ranges too frequently. If the government is worried about the mustangs taking up too much space in the corrals than stop removing them from the ranges. If we can move bears, tigers, moose and other wild animals to other locations that don't threaten human population or the vegetation than why can't we do the same to the mustangs? Also when I started adopting mustangs the fee was reasonable but the requirements were very strict, an individual that did not have adequate facilities for the mustang could not adopt even though they had the knowledge and the fee but then the fee got more expensive and a lot of private homeowners that want to adopt could not afford them.

Once again the American Government has taken a stand against a innocent. First off why are there 33,000 Mustang's in Government corrals???? They should be free to roam the plains with the other animals, that have survived century's without man and should be allowed to remain to do what is natural to them not to us. Time and time again the people have given the government the power to change, our land, our religions, our speech and our very basic rights to live and breath. Now we are giving them the creatures as well and they didn't even get to vote. SHAME on all people that do not take a stand on even the most basic freedom of a animal; living in the wild, roaming and surviving on it's own without our help. You want to allow Uncle Who??? to take that as well??? Have another cocktail and change the channel...
And what is a "desertdonkey" anyway?

This is ridiculous. The farmers aren't concerned about grazing land for cattle - they want the land to plant more corn which has become the "golden" crop since our obsession with Ethanol has taken off. If we need more land for cattle grazing why doesn't the government stop all of the senseless building by developers. There are thousands of acres of empty strip malls, shopping centers, and houses...

  • Posted By: lelandc @ 07/02/2008 3:15:25 PM

Are you serious. That is sad some people now days have no compassion. Just because people cannot afford to adopt an animal, doesn't mean they should die. It is scary to think a person could just disregard life that easy...

  • Posted By: rossneely @ 07/02/2008 3:12:47 PM

Shoot yourself. Leave the horses alone........... Shamrock

  • Posted By: turko74 @ 07/02/2008 3:12:40 PM

BLM made it so people couldn't buy the horses to sell to slaughter houses, and I think it is now illegal to do so. So what gives them the right to outright kill them? In France, horse meat is a delicacy at least if we used them as livestock it wouldn't be such a waste. I would never eat horse meat (on purpose) and I own two wild mustangs which run free on my ranch. You can see it in their eyes that they could really tell a story. I say save the horses and forget the criminals.

  • Posted By: bushisretarded @ 07/02/2008 3:12:33 PM

Then I say bring all the mustangs to Bush's ranch.

  • Posted By: Nina L. @ 07/02/2008 3:12:21 PM

Is our solution to all our problems to alway "kill"? Why can 't we be more humane in how we handle the things God has given us to care for? A better more thought out solution needs to be found. I can't believe that we can't find some place for these animals to be free and live their lives the way wild animals should. I guess we should ask who in our goverment is being paid off by the slaughter houses to get their hands on these horses?
