‘The Wild Horse Is Us’

why don't you move the horses from the range? THeres other open areas all over the us that could support some of that population, not the whole population mind you, but some of that so its not overgrazing. I live in Southeastern Ky, mtns mind you, but the area is habitat to some wild horses, Horses once roamed all over the US. Move the horse auctions, your not getting that many people adopting the mustangs because a lot of people can't go to oregon to adopt them. Move the auctions to all over. Sell some of the horses to other countries, mexico and canada. They have a lot of farm and range country that would buy them. Don't take the easy way out just because you don't want to think.

What goverment dimwit came up with this idea. Leave the horses alone.

We are all (except the Indian) an introduced "species" to this great land; we are not "native" to this country we inhabit. Does that mean we have to be "seriously managed and controlled"? There's enough of that going around now days with all the politically correct/incorrect crap. Mustangs, along with buffalo, wolves, eagles, etc., all have more rights to the land we do. Maybe ranchers should/could do with less land to graze their cattle. Nature managed quite well till man and the government stuck their fingers in the pie!

To coral and sell these horses is shows no pride. To kill the animals that founded our country alongside men is inhumane and these horses are a symbol of what the U.S.A. really stands for. Freedom. So to captivate them is one thing but at this point the number of feral mustangs still remaining is freighting small and still decreasing. If the money is really a problem like the BLM really says it is then they should set up a way for people to give money because I would be your first any day. I have myself watched these wild horses run free across a range and I will tell you theres nothing like it watching 15 horses of all different colors run across knowing they are free to do as they please watching tails fly and nostrils reach for air as there great necks swell to go faster. The thought of seeing them in captivity or in slaughter houses which is were most of them end up breaks my heart.

the government has suggested to "put a box at the end of IRS forms" to help fund this... how about a little restructure of how they are already spending tax dollars on needless things like tax breaks for oil companies... take that 3.8 billion dollar tax relief amount and put it to better use.... the mustangs being one of them..

The idea enrages me. Should we next round up the homeless and euthanize them? They are a far greater public nuisance, and are also a "financial burden." Because the horses don???t have voices to speak and fight for themselves, we should discount their value? To kill off a living creature because it is a drain on the government would be like giving Mother Nature an abortion.

I think the Bush is going too far. I dont remember him asking the American people what they thought. I think he should cut back on some of the stupid crap he is doing overseas.

maybe we should think more of mandatory sterilization for crackhead and criminals instead of harming innocent animals..

There is nothing so beautitful as the running of a wild horse; you can see the muscles rippling under its skin, feel the fierce joy it takes in its own speed, the glint of an animal intelligence in the eyes. Walking, they are grace incarnate, each hoof flicks down from the leg, and the legs bear the weight of the horse lightly as if they carried an animal that could fly. They love this land in the old way, the wild way, and long before there was oil or gas to be "developed" there were horses to llift men and their loads.

OMG! These are living creatures? It doesn't matter what they look like, or how fast they run, or where they came from. THEY'RE LIVING CREATURES! I mean c'mon - if being allowed to live was based on our looks, agility, knowledge, etc., the bulk of us would of been put down a helluva long time ago.

Anytime you see the words Government or Federal you can guaranty a failure.
The US Government has never done anything correct.
We have too many Government officials maybe we should euthanize them

Killing the wild horses is like killing our heritage and history. Come on America enough is enough there is going to be nothing left soon. What a horrible thought of killing those beautiful animals LEAVE THOSE HORSES ALONE.....WHAT ELSE ARE THEY GOING TO THINK OF KILLING??????

Why don't we just euthanize the Bureau of Land Managment - DO NOT KILL THE HORSES.

I'm not sure why everyone is blaming ranchers and the BLM for this. Its obviously a plot by the oil companies to get rid of any future competition. With the price of gas these days, we'll all be back to the horse and buggy within a decade. If the BLM really wants to save Americans money by culling the herds, why don't they start with the most wasteful and costly, i.e. the elephants and donkeys in D.C.?

Man doesn't have the right to destroy any of God's creation. Every living creature has a purpose. Man has been defying that rule since ages. If not anything else, please use the BRAIN and SENSITIVITY that God endowed us - MAN with and resolve this issue in preserving them than euthanising them.

If euthanising an animal to control population is an option, then the government should consider euthanising all the useless MEN who serve no purpose to Life and burden on Mother Earth.
