I like the idea of putting a box to check off on the IRS forms, that would be a good way to raise money and help the wild horses. I think the giving of money to illegal people who come to our country is wrong. Welfare for all these illegitimate babies is another waste of money. Don't breed um if you can't feed um.

Horses were here during the ice age. They then disappeared from the north america and were reintroduced when the Spanish brought them over. There are remains of eohippus from when the first mammals appeared in North America. Anyway, horses belong here. We are crowding them out, they aren't crowding us out. I agree that if you asked Americans they would want the horses to stay and get rid of the illegals then maybe we would have the money to spend on other things.

The wild mustangs may have technically survived the last ice age, but they were extinct shortly thereafter. Presumed causes include, e.g., predation by native americans, change in climate leading to loss of habitats, competition from other grazers. It is well known that no horses existed in the New World when the Spanist arrived and reintroduced the horse in the 16th century.-----Be that as it may, the actual cost for federal care of the horses at 39 million is de minimus considering waste in other parts of the budget. I suggest that 4 million Americans send $10 directed to the BLM c/o the Department of Agriculture, Washington, D.C. and mark the check for the Wild Horses benefit. Just the thought of horses running free over the land is more than worth it.

I can't understand why in a country so dedicated to freedom, anyone would propose euthanization of these beautiful, wild creatures instead of coming up with another solution.

The overpopulation is in the government offices, not the western plains. Send all the bureaucrats to the glue factory.

I think its greed and laziness that the BLM wants to kill our wild horses, God's living creatures. Let them run free as the Nation does with emigrants from Iran, Pakistan and Iraq (the terrorist). Go back to Auctioning them off as before, donate some to Youth Camps.....Leave our Wild Horses ALONG! You Federal killers!

No, no, no..........An "introduced species that is a drain on resources"? Please! We have a lot of "introduced species" in this country! With the two-legged variety....hey, lets feed them, clothe them, give them free medical, food stamps, FLYING LESSONS. Four -legged.....lets just kill them!
What are we dealing with here....lets kill the Mexican wolves, bison, horses.....whatever gets in our way. How
arrogant are we? What kind of mentality are we dealing with? By the time we are finished we will have a quiet, barren and sad world. Someone on the hill can take time from messing with the interns and lobbists, paying off special interests groups and collecting their HUGE paychecks to achieve a solution! How about collaberating with Defenders of Wildlife, Peta or the US Humane Society, get viable solutions and stop itching their trigger fingers!
    No kill for horses!!

Is energy cheaper if it costs us our wildlife and our heritage?

  • Posted By: ppinch @ 07/02/2008 1:56:10 PM

Too many lame-brain politicians always 'thinking up ways' to thin the herds--when in reality, it is they that need to be thinned out...I say, two-terms for everyone and then--OUT TO PASTURE!!

Someone tell me this is a cruel joke. How can the government even think as these majestic creatures as "Pests"? American was built on the backs of horses. These fine animals have kept the American people in contact with eachother by delivering our mail, they have helped the American people fight and win wars and battles, they have even stopped wars and battles by delivering our presidents letters and important messages to generals and military personal during times of battles, they have brought families together, they have helped build our towns, cities and states, they have made many people happy by being our friends and companions for hundreds of years. I can go on for hours. If anyone has ever had the honor of witnessing the mustangs run freely, it is honestly and truly the most beautiful sight that you will ever witness. To take that away from future generations would be a true crime. Set up more adoptions througout the U.S. There are thousands of american people that would benifit by owning one of these fine animals. The American people have to come together and try and stop this from happening.

How about control the population by gelding or altermatives to birthcontrol for the mares?? In the end wouldn't it all cost the government the same?? Why do we have to destroy these animals?? Good Lord I voted for this president and want to appologize, is there no end to the stupidity that flows from Washington these days?? Sign me off as just another one of those unimportant middle class Americans who have to pay for all the crap our administration cooks up. This makes me ILL!

Iconic image of freedom?? who are we kidding... America is not the land of the free.. the american flag is synymous with greed, apathy, and ever wanting... We, humans will destroy anything/being for a buck. we know no boundaries.. nothing is sacred... We've raped the planet, abused/murdered her inhabitants (our voiceless counterparts), destroyed our oceans... Where does it end?? This planet will shake "us" off like a flea. Shame on those who continue to rape and abuse our planet and all her children (animals)..
i am ashamed to be a member of this greedy/wanton society.... ashamed, indeed... eileen scanlon christofi

Leave the horses be. According to most of you, it's OK to get rid of anything that is not Native to this land. Well then we should all go back to Europe, Africa and everywhere else that we all came from then, because the only original people here were Native Americans. (And I'm sure they want their Country back).

  • Posted By: joneskenna @ 07/02/2008 12:52:34 PM

Just another way to get rid of our American History. Why not move the horses to other parts of the country. I don't think there is any wild horses in Oklahoma so why not bring them here? But killing them is not the option. It's part of our history, how about we stop making the United States flag.

Actually, Oklahoma has many Wild Mustangs, both on individual ranches and there is one of very few sanctuaries for the unadoptable Mustangs, in Dewey, which is in Northeastern Oklahoma. It's called the Prairie National Wild Horse Refuge. I personally know several people including one very close friend, who raise these beautiful animals. This proposal is ludicrous and I pray that they aren't allowed to follow through on it. In the meantime, those that adopt and raise mustangs, or "adopt" to help pay for their care, thank you for protecting what little of our heritage is left. Shame on you BLM, and that's the nicest thing I can say. Believe me, it's not what I want to say.
