‘The Wild Horse Is Us’

do half of you people even know ne thing about the west? or how about the history of the "wild" horse? guess not?!

Wild horses are something every country and every real adult can relate to that wholesome feeling. Killing our entire population of wild horses in america, regardless of the number, is just a bad idea. I hope I am not the only one that thinks killing off a wild species is a bad idea. Afterall, the wild horse spirit is part of the american heritage, most often visually expressed by a lonesome cowboy or wanderer finding a wild horse and taming it with the same wild spirit they both share, never really taking away the wild spirit from either of them.

Auctioning means they will typically go to a slaughterhouse so they can be used as food at some fancy "upscale" eatery in another country (even racehoreses have met this creepy fate and you don't even want to know what those slaughterhouses are like). I am often embarrassed by my fellow human beings and this is one of those times. I can think of plenty people who need euthanizing more than these horses. I am sure they will kill them but I sincerely hope not. Sometimes I wonder just what exactly is wrong with people --

I cannot even imagine that killing these fine horses is even an option. But, we have Bush for several more months and this seems to be his way of dealing with issues. Kill it, Invade it, even when the information is shaky, Lie and hope it never comes to light, and Drill.....".what, do we really need the polar bears?" leave the horses alone, they are wild and free and hurt no one. If the government has money to blow, why not take care of its citizens first?

How about giving them to people who want to raise them and not for a price I mean give them away to people who want them.

I agree with Deanne Stillman, our community should be more involved with the preservation of our heritage, we have accomplished the destruction of a wide variety of elements that made this country and before we know it we won't be able to recognize anymore. People should feel the need to save what's left in this country that defines us. I would most definetly make donations and participate for the preservation of these beatiful animals that represent so much in this land. Hopefully there's more initiative and we can all come together before it's too late...

I am shocked, I just think there has to be something that can be done.

These horses are part of our history and heritage of the Great West. Killing them would be senseless and cruel. There are many areas in our country that are natural and unused-let them run free as they were meant to be. It seems like our government is taking control of things that should really be up to the people to decide. They need to look overseas and take care of the business there and bring our soldiers home. Wild horses roaming free should be the least of their worries!

Upon reading this article I felt speechless. Then as I sat there longer, my anger grew.
Whoever is advocating the killing of these magnificent animals should have the same done to them. Treat them or someone/something they love the exact way they believe the mustangs should be treated. Lets euthanize one BLM per horse!!!!

let the horses run free...WTF is wrong with America? We have to kill everything on this planet in order to live on it? Leave the horses alone. Land belongs to all the living organisms not just humans.

How about giving them to people who wnat them , and I dont mean for a price. Give them to people to raise.

I think that the government can find many other issues to spend our tax dollars on---deportation of illegal aliens should be priority. Leave these horses alone. They have done nothing to deserve this kind of treatment. Isn't it too bad that we have overstaffed and over paid government departments that have nothing better to do than try and find more of our heritage to destroy?

Maybe the government should stop all the useless building which takes away the grazing land for all the animals. Wild horses were here before anyone other than the Native Americans and they should be left alone. They have survived for years with out our help and they will survive a long time afterward if we just leave the land alone for them, and for us.

Just another way to get rid of our American History. Why not move the horses to other parts of the country. I don't think there is any wild horses in Oklahoma so why not bring them here? But killing them is not the option. It's part of our history, how about we stop making the United States flag.

Politics and politicians. They are all corrupt. With all the concerns that this country faces, this is what they come up with? Do they have nothing better to do? They care nothing but for money power and control. We need to remember how this country was founded and stop being so passive. Leave the horses alone. They are wild and free. They aren't bothering anyone. What is it costing for the horses to run free? Tells me that they have nothing better to do with their time. Now THAT should be a real concern.

Will anything wild and free (including humans) EVER survive the Bush (mis)Administration? The problem is, those of us who care about animal issues are usually not told about (mis)management of their care, treatment and control by our Government, or the shoddy schemes they come up with until it is either too late, or we don't have a clue how to stop them. What a pathetic commentary on our priorities.

Survived the ice age? Population of 2 million? Where did the writer get this information? The Spanish delivered the decendants of these animals and I highly doubt the population was ever near 2 million......maybe buffalo!

Really, these horses are trash? Why is it that we have to trash all that gets in our way without regard. People, as you might know, cause more harm than any animal population by mearly not disposing of their own trash. Is nothing sacred anymore? It is getting difficult to find places where you can enjoy nature as it was intended without noticing some trace of humans before you and whether it is a beer can, plastic wrapper, or whatever, its just disgusting what little regard people have for anything except themselves.

This story has two sides and unfortunately, lobbyists for the cattle industry, like all other lobbyist, will win because we make decisions today based on money and NOT what is morally and civily correct.
