Do away with BLM instead makes more horse sense!

I say we have too many politicians and bureaucrats running around. Thinning that herd would certainly alleviate a huge drain on our overly mismanaged government!!

PEOPLE SHOULD ASK HOW MUCH THE RANCHERS PAY TO LEASE OUR PUBLIC LAND . IT USED TO BE AROUND A DOLLAR AN ACRE. IF THE RANCHERS DON'T LIKE THE WILD HORSES, THEY DON'T HAVE TO LEASE OUR LAND, THE HORSES BELONG THERE..THE CATTLE DON'T. IF THEY WANT TO ROUND UP SOMETHING, HOW ABOUT 11 MILLION ILLEGAL ALIENS . GETTING THEM BACK TO MEXICO WOULD SAVE THE U.S. MORE THAN ENOUGH MONEY TO MANAGE THE HORSES, WHICH DON'T NEED MANAGING. IT'S JUST ANOTHER WAY TO PAY SOME BUREACRAT THAT CAN'T HOLD A NORMAL JOB.

Really, these horses are trash? Why is it that we have to trash all that gets in our way without regard. People, as you might know, cause more harm than any animal population by mearly not disposing of their own trash. Is nothing sacred anymore? It is getting difficult to find places where you can enjoy nature as it was intended without noticing some trace of humans before you and whether it is a beer can, plastic wrapper, or whatever, its just disgusting what little regard people have for anything except themselves.

This story has two sides and unfortunately, lobbyists for the cattle industry, like all other lobbyist, will win because we make decisions today based on money and NOT what is morally and civily correct.

senseless bureaucratic stupidity on the rampage again. i agree with the guy below - euthanize the absurdly moronic policy makers and save the wild horses. horses are far better company than most people anyhow.

This is more of a comment on a post by desertdonkey than anything. I feel for your friend, the whole paycheck thing is a rough, horrible deal to go through and she has my sympathy, but her not getting paid has, I think, nothing to do with the topic at hand. That is a government issue, and if anything proves that the BLM doesn't need to be in charge of anything more. On to the topic at hand. While I agree horses, both wild and domesticated, are probably one of the least useful species to raise (ie. they don't give you food, they look nice and carry you around, thems about it) I hardly think it's fair for a human to call them an "invasive species". As for stomping down plants and pooping everywhere, that can be used to describe a lot more than horses. If you want to talk disgusting, imagine a pristine spring in the northern wilderness, crystal clear water, cool, steady flow, you bend down to take a drink and notice the hundred of salmon corpses littering the bottom after the day or two of crazy salmon sex party. As for horse standards, this part bugs me a lot because I've never been fond of animal breeding, show dogs/horses/etc.etc., the fact you call something wild diseased, inbred, etc. etc. insults me on some primal level. Compared to say, a champion poodle, looks nice, but stares at you when you throw a ball, or race horses who are bred for speed. Not truly terrible things, but by no means the standard we should base life on. In summary, I agree, this is not something I think we should pay for, but I certainly don't think we should begin mass euthanazia. American symbolism or not, these animals don't harm any humans, and if they do, it's more than likely due to human ecroachment on their natural territories. Well thats my $0.02 so take it or leave it.

I lived in Nevada for a few years (just moved back to crowded, icky Connecticut), and was lucky enough (!) to see wild horses while out west. These creatures are struggling to survive in some of the last unscathed areas of the United States. They offer spirit and beauty in a country that we overpopulate, overbuild and overrun. Let them be, dammit, let them be.

I just read the article regarding euthanizing wild horse and all I can say is ARE YOU PEOPLE CRAZY????
The thought that you are even considering this is outrageous. The fact that people think 30,000 wild horses roaming is a burden is outrageous also. I???m tired of hearing about budget constraints in government agencies. With all the mismanagement and waste that???s reported all the time, the agencies need to look to themselves for resolution. As far as the ranchers go, it seems to me they have more important issues to deal with like abuse of their cattle and disease.

was just set aside by Congress for the stupid Iraq war and pay for these horses.

As most every thing does in this Administration.... it all boils down to money. Who gets it and who doesn't.
We can spend billions and billions on a take over of foriegn countries and oil fields, of which the suppliers and no bid companies are attached at the hip to Me. Cheney....but as far as putting money into programs for the people and animals that can not defend themselves in this country..,, forget it!! Besides they don't vote and we can't send them to war..so what good are they????

We all may need a horse after what they've done to the gas prices! No, but seriously, does the government not have enough control that they have to take on this as well? Where is the Humane Society when you need them!

Euthanize the money grubbing, non caring politicians and save the horses.

This idea is absolutely the most ridiulous proposal from an administration riddled with assinine plans and propositions. We as a country have a long past of destroying those things that make this country the country that it once was and should always have been. The Mustangs are just another sad chapter to add to our history books if this plan is enforced. Put them on the same page as the bison and wolves. Then let someone else explain to our descendants why every generation seemed to have leaders with an overwhelming drive to annihilate who and what made us great in the first place.

ROUND UP THE HORSES AND SELL THEM! PRETTY SIMPLE!
