Comment: Actually Washington was born at his family's Pope Creek farm some 20 miles or so east of Ferry Farm. His father's business absorbed so much of his time that he moved the family to Ferry Farm some years after Washington was born. Washington's first home lies off Pope Creek not far from the Potomac and the foundation of that house was also excavated and is visible. The National Park Service recognizes the Pope Creek Farm as Washington's birthplace and first home.

Comment: The photo of the footprint of Washington's boyhood home lacks a necessary archeological element - something noting scale. Where's the meter stick or the field archeologist or the landrover or something to help us know just how relatively big this site is?

    Happy 232nd birthday, America!

Lets hope the next 23 decades will be even better than the first 23!

Comment: I find this kind of thing fascinating, but was surprised that this is a new discovery. I assumed we knew where Ferry Farm was all along! ... I will definitely look into vistiting once completed.
