Comment: I must take issue with some of the points made in "Seven Facts About Body Rhythm." Author Temma Ehrenfield claims, "[b]ody temperature is lowest before waking in the morning and highest in the late afternoon," yet according to the Houston Sleep Center, "[b]ody temperature . . . starts to rise during the last hours of sleep, just before waking up in the early morning . . . A drop in temperature also occurs in most people between 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. . . ." Common sense would say the Houston Sleep Center is correct, as people commonly feel chilled before sleeping at the end of the day and awaken when hot -- as anyone who has experienced hot flashes knows. Therefore, births that, according to Ehrenfield, "peak in the morning and early afternoon" would be occurring at a time when the mother???s temperature tended to be the hottest, not the coolest.
